BuddyTV has confirmed from a spokesperson from Supernatural that the show's
director and executive producer Kim Manners passed away Sunday in Los Angeles
due to complications from lung cancer.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke released a statement saying, "Everyone at
Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated.
Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He
was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave
so much to Supernatural, and everything we do on the show, now and forever,
is in memory of him."

Many fans first learned the news from Supernatural star Jim Beaver's MySpace
and Facebook pages early Monday morning. On his official MySpace page, it
said “Jim is in mourning for one of the best friends and best directors he's
ever known - Kim Manners, who died last night from lung cancer.”

When BuddyTV visited the set of Supernatural last summer, Jensen Ackles
spoke about how well the cast and crew get along. Ackles mentioned Kim Manners,
saying that he explain the feeling best when Manners said “We spend way too
much time with each other not to enjoy each others' company.”

Manners got his start in television in the late 1970s as a production
manager and director for Charlies' Angels. He worked steadily as a TV director
through the ‘80s and ‘90s until joining The X-Files in 1995 as a producer.
His
work on that show helped earn him four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama
Series.

On Supernatural, Kim Manners has served as an executive producer since the
beginning and has become one of the most influential figures behind the scenes
of the show. He directed 17 episodes, including every season finale, the
season premieres for the last three years, and his final episode was this
season's "Metamorphosis."

BuddyTV's deepest sympathies go out to the Manners family and everyone who
works on Supernatural.

Does anyone watch it?  I just got hooked this week.  A LOT like X Files ... Kim Manners is involved in the show.  Even a few X Files references.  I realize a may be a little late for the show, but better late than never.  Watching a Peacock like episode right now.

U.S. pilot was ordered to shoot down UFO

LONDON - An American fighter pilot flying from an English air base at the
height of the Cold War was ordered to open fire on a massive UFO that lit up his
radar, according to an account published by Britain’s National Archives on
Monday.

The fighter pilot said he was ordered to fire a full salvo of rockets at the
UFO moving erratically over the North Sea — but that at the last minute the
object picked up enormous speed and disappeared. The account, first published
in Britain’s Daily Star newspaper more than 17 years ago and to this day
unverified by military authorities, was one of many carried in the 1,500 pages
the archives made available online.

The unnamed pilot said he and another airman were scrambled on the night of
May 20, 1957, to intercept an unusual “bogey” on radars at a Royal Air Force
Station Manston, an airfield at the southeastern tip of England about 75
miles from central London.

“This was a flying object with very unusual flight patterns,” the pilot
said, according to a typed manuscript of his account mailed to Britain’s
Ministry of Defense by a UFO enthusiast in 1988. “In the initial briefing it
was
suggested to us that the bogey actually was motionless for long intervals.”

Ordered to fly at full throttle in cloudy weather, the pilot said he was
given the order to fire a volley of 24 rockets at the mysterious object.

“To be quite candid I almost [expletive] my pants!” the pilot said, saying
he asked for confirmation — which he received.

Retired U.S. airman Milton Torres told Britain’s Sky News on Monday that he
was the pilot and has spent 50 frustrating years attempting to uncover the
truth of his aerial encounter.

Speaking from his home in Miami, Torres said he never saw the UFO with his
naked eyes, but watched in awe as it appeared on his jet’s radar and sped off
before he had chance to fire.

“All of a sudden as it was coming in, it decided to take off and leave me
behind ... The next thing I know it was gone,” Torres told Sky News. “It was
some kind of space alien craft. It was so fast, it was so incredible ... it was
  absolutely death-defying.”

Impossible to miss?

In the newly published government file, the U.S. airman said the UFO
appeared impossible to miss.

“The blip was burning a hole in the radar with its incredible intensity,”
the pilot said. “It was similar to a blip I had received from B-52’s and
seemed to be a magnet of light. ... I had a lock on that had the proportions of
a
flying aircraft carrier.”

As he closed in on the object to prepare for combat, however, the object
began to move wildly before fading off his radar. The target gone, the mission
was called off, and he returned to base to an odd reception.

“I had not the foggiest idea what had actually occurred, nor would anyone
explain anything to me,” the pilot said. He said he was led to a man in
civilian
clothes, who “advised me that this would be considered highly classified and
that I should not discuss it with anybody not even my commander.”

“He disappeared without so much as a goodbye and that was that, as far as I
was concerned,” the pilot said, according to the account.

No military record

Britain’s military said it had no record of the incident, according to the
files. Neither did the U.S. military. The second pilot’s account, also
included in the files, paints a somewhat different picture of events, saying
there
were not one but several “unknowns” and that he did not remember being
contacted by anyone about staying quiet. He did not mention the targets’
size.

“I know this is not a very exciting narrative but it is all I can recall,”
the second pilot said.
His name, like his colleague’s, was redacted from the files.

David Clarke, a UFO expert who has worked with the National Archives on the
document release, said it was one of the most intriguing stories he had culled
from the batch of files released Monday.

He said that the CIA once had a program intended to create phantom signals
on radar — and that this may have been an exercise in electronic warfare.
Whatever the case, Clarke argued that “there’s no doubt something very
unusual
happened.”

Clarke said the batch of files released Monday — which include witness
accounts, investigations, and sketches — was part of a three- to four-year
program
intended to make a total of 160 UFO-related files available to the public.

You guys,

I'm right there with you.  I think I wanted someone to kinda (sadly) "cry" with.  I was kinda bummed, actually, and found myself just shifting in my chair wanting for it to be over.  I, like Dennis, thought it would've been plenty for an episode -but certainly notta movie.  I do have to say, however, that it really was kinda nice to see our FBI couple back together again.  These GA & DD obviously can still pull off the magic together.  And YES, I was like "WOO!" when we all found out that the  "somebody with some balls" was Skinner.

Oh, you guys, such a FAR CRY from Seasons 3 & 4 (my personal favorites)!

*sniffle* *sniffle*

I really didn't enjoy it. I don't know what they were thinking. As I left for the movie, remembering the two-star reviews I had seen in the newspapers, I figured "How bad can it be? As long as it's got Mulder, Scully and some monsters I'll be happy". I wasn't expecting big myth arcs or fan favourites or anything: just some basic Z Files components. And I was disappointed. There was barely anything supernatural going on and not enough scares.

People in the cinema cheered when Skinner popped in. Such a relief to see something familiar.

Billy was terrible - a really bad choice. It's amazing that it was such a disspointment when I really didn't even have high expectations in the first place.

We still have our series on DVD though, kids. Nothing lost.

lasted 1.5 hours. The first 30min of the movie was actually hard to
watch for me simply because the "nods to the fans" were so forced (ie.
camera shot of the sunflower seed bowl).

I did enjoy watching M&S interacting with each other as I found myself
imagining what the dialogue would be (how would Mulder respond to
Scully). All in all, I felt the movie was really something only the fans
could enjoy. Newcomers, I fear, wouldn't be able to appreciate TXF from
this movie alone.

“Californication” and “X-Files” star David Duchovny has checked into rehab for sex addiction, his lawyer Stanton “Larry” Stein confirmed to Access Hollywood.

“I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction,” the actor said in a statement released to Access. “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

David married actress Téa Leoni in 1997. They have two children, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd, 6.

Showtime, which will begin airing the second season of “Californication” on Sept. 28, wished Duchovny and his family well upon learning the actor had entered rehab.

“All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time,” a rep for Showtime said in a statement released to Access.
