Do you spend the first 10 minutes of the film setting it up for them?

Chris Carter: We have that scrolling text (simulates star wars opening text)
about a universe far far away)X-Files creators and writers Chris Carter and
Frank Spotnitz sat down to talk, or more appropriately, vaguely drop hints about
the upcoming X-Files movie at this year's Wondercon during a small roundtable
behind-the-scenes, and MovieWeb was there to get the goods. Check out what they
had to say about aliens, Mulder, Scully, the infamous werewolf and much more...

So, how did you first come up with X-Files?

Frank Spotnitz: Oh gosh, I've told this story so many times. It was inspired by
so many different things, including Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

In a quick, pitch version of this movie, what's it about?

Frank Spotnitz: We're keeping it secret as everybody knows. It's like an X-mas
present, you want to tear the wrapping and get a peek but it's more fun to go
and be surprised.

Is it more stand alone or mythology based?

Chris Carter: It's stand alone.

Where do the characters find themselves? What state of mind are they in?

Chris Carter: That's actually a good question and that's actually part of the
movie. To tell you that would be a big part.

Frank Spotnitz: We can tell you it's true to where they are in their lives 6
years after the show ended. We pick up in the present day. We thought a lot
about that. Our hope was that the fans would feel rewarded because we're
honoring...we're true to the characters, what they've been through and where
they'd be with their lives. What's also exciting to us is, you don't need to
have seen The X-Files to understand or enjoy the movie. We're hoping it's an
experience to introduce new movie goers to The X-Files experience.

Why now?

Frank Spotnitz: They came to us in fall 2001 before the show ended. We came up
with the beginnings of the story in 2002. But there was a lawsuit that just sort
of stopped everything cold for years. I had given up hope, actually

Chris Carter: It wasn't really a lawsuit, actually. We had to file the suit to
preserve our rights to continue negotiating.

Frank Spotnitz: Once that got resolved things got going pretty quickly.

In the 1st film you guys had commentary on the Oklahoma City Bombing. Does this
touch on contemporary themes?

Chris Carter: Ya, it does touch on contemporary themes and some of the people
who keep up with the news will recognize them.

What are some of the broader themes of the film?

Chris Carter: There's a beef recall. (laughs)

Can you deny the werewolf costumes (used as bait to misdirect paparazzi
illegally snapping set photos)?

Chris Carter: As they always say, "Deny Everything."

Frank Spotnitz: It's actually been really entertaining to read all the stuff on
the internet cause there's so much misinformation, so much is not correct, which
works for us. We don't want people spoiling the movie. So for the fans who are
checking out these websites: don't trust or believe these things.

Chris Carter: Trust no one.

Frank Spotnitz: Trust no one. Wait for the movie.

What got you excited coming back to The X-Files in terms of creative juices?

Chris Carter: It was an opportunity, I felt there was always more of the story
to tell. I felt we ended the show at the right time, as far as the mood of the
country and where we ended up in season 9, that there were other stories to tell
with those characters. I think that was part of the inspiration, that there was
enthusiasm from David and Gillian and Frank, I wouldn't have done this without
my friends. I wouldn't just "do a movie." It had to be an experience where I was
enjoying myself.

What was it like going back to this world?

Chris Carter: It's weird. Because it's such a big part of your life and you take
it and you shelve it for 6 years...5 years for us. That's a big thing. I watched
very little of the show during those 5 years. I made it a point of getting away
from it for perspective. We were a hit show, it never really dawned on me, we
were always working so hard to keep it good. I knew people were watching, that
there were good ratings. But beyond that, there was a moment for me when we did
the first X-files movie, we went to The Mann's Chinese theater which seats a lot
of people. We sat on a little balcony looking over the audience and watched them
watching the movie. And to see a big audience react was really, really special.
I'm not sure which question I just answered...

Frank Spotnitz: This movie is true to the characters and what they've been
through. Though it doesn't deal with the alien conspiracy or any of that, I
think people are gonna feel we've honored everything.

Do you write together or trade drafts?

Chris Carter: We have a secret way to do it.

How do you react to being referenced in pop culture, getting name checked in the
"Bare Naked Ladies" song, stuff like that?

Chris Carter: Ya, of course, it's always amusing. It's interesting, cause Xhibit
is in the movie, and he had a song called "The year 2000" which had an X-files
lyric in it. So I knew about Xhibit long before he knew about me. And he's been
a tremendous addition to the ensemble, if you will. Those things are always
amusing.

How careful did you have to be to make sure this film was successful to people
who didn't see the show?

Chris Carter: My feeling is that there's an audience out there who didn't see
the show cause they were too young, their parents wouldn't let them watch it and
some of those people are now in college, so if they missed The X-Files this is
an opportunity to introduce them to it.

Do you spend the first 10 minutes of the film setting it up for them?

Chris Carter: We have that scrolling text (simulates star wars opening text)
about a universe far far away.

Frank Spotnitz: It is a movie and if you haven't seen the series before it
stands alone as a movie.

Will plot-lines be resolved from Fight the Future? Intergalactic civil war?

Chris Carter: Not in the strict sense, because this isn't an alien mythology or
conspiracy episode, er, story. I have to say that we tried to encompass
everything.

Any talk about making a sequel much more quickly?

Chris Carter: Hard to say, I've had literally 15 minutes of sleep in the past 24
hours.

How about crossovers or cameos, say characters from Millennium?

Chris Carter: That's a great idea. I can't comment on that.

What is it about Mulder and Scully that works?

Chris Carter: It's one of those things that almost can't be defined. My wife
thinks it's the way Mulder is protective of Scully. Even though they are at odds
in terms of perspectives and relative points of views, I feel that he loves her
and protects her.

You said we get to see Mulder and Scully in a whole new way, can you let us in
on any of that?

Frank Spotnitz: Mulder's a cross dresser (laughter).

Chris Carter: I'm not gonna tell you because you really don't want to know.

How do you feel about the catchphrase "the truth is out there" being picked up
by 9-11 truthers (who believe the government were behind the attacks)?

Chris Carter: Is it really? It's ironic.

You said one of your inspirations was Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Did you ever
want to do a definitive adaptation?

Chris Carter: Yes, but it could never be definitive because it was one of a
kind. It was a completely different approach.

Amanda Peet is a new character, can you say anything about that?

Chris Carter: Her name is...what's her name? She's getting some sort of weird
alien...what's the question again? (laughter). She's a person with some
authority and she comes into contact with Mulder and Scully. [NOTE: At an
earlier event, Chris Carter stated her name was FBI Agent Dakota Whitney]

Does she represent a challenge to them or their way of working?

Chris Carter: Maybe.

How about additional series characters like Robert Patrick, etc?

Chris Carter: We wish everyone could be in there, but they can't be.

Where are you in production?

Chris Carter: We're still filming.

How far into filming?

Chris Carter: Probably 2/3rds of the way.

Is Mark Snow still the composer?

Chris Carter: Yes, yes he is.

A lot of X-Files episodes were able to get goofy and self aware and comedic...

Chris Carter: I love the comedic episodes, I love them because they actually
tested the range of the concept. And it was so resilient, you could push it,
pull it, go any direction.

How about references to past episodes in the film?

Chris Carter: Yes.

Creatures we've met before in the film?

Chris Carter: You don't want to know.

No tape worm man?

Chris Carter: No, he's not gonna be in it.

How about the WonderCon trailer?

Chris Carter: That's new to us!

Frank Spotnitz: Some of that footage was just shot 4 or 5 days ago.

Chris Carter: So that's really exciting to see it molded together.

Suddenly, armed men in black suits entered the room and kidnapped Frank and
Chris (and/or the PR lady told everyone time was up).

So there it is. The movie might or might not be about aliens. It's true to the
TV show without relying on it, though it references it, yet can be totally
digestible to someone who's never seen an episode.

Gillian Anderson: We've all been very excited. When we were rehearsing it and
finally got on set together, it was a good feeling.

David Duchovny: I'm just happy we didn't come [to WonderCon] before shooting.
It'd be too much pressure, sometimes it's good to work in a vacuum. If we
started shooting tomorrow after this, I'd be like "I can't satisfy!" They want
too much! They love us too much!" [...]

Gillian Anderson: Every now and then we'd meet up and reminisce about the
characters. At the beginning, shortly after we started shooting, someone sent me
some clips put together on YouTube. It was the first time I'd seen something
like that. "The intimate moments of Mulder and Scully."

David Duchovny: Very romantic (laughs)During this weekend's Wondercon MovieWeb
was able to go behind-the-scenes of the convention floor to have a secret little
chat with actor David Duchonvy and actress Gillian Anderson to talk about coming
back to The X-Files after a 6 year hiatus from the show ended. The truth
follows...

Earlier it was stated that we get to see the characters in a whole new way...

David Duchovny: In the general sense, there's a journey to be had. You either
start at the top or the bottom for a journey to happen. Our movie has to start
at the top and work it's way down. Or start at the bottom and work it's way up.

How does it feel to be back?

Gillian Anderson: We've all been very excited. When we were rehearsing it and
finally got on set together, it was a good feeling.

David Duchovny: I'm just happy we didn't come [to WonderCon] before shooting.
It'd be too much pressure, sometimes it's good to work in a vacuum. If we
started shooting tomorrow after this, I'd be like "I can't satisfy!" They want
too much! They love us too much!"

Do you feel a certain responsibility over characters who have gotten larger than
life?

David Duchovny: I don't think you could function on set if you think like that.
I think once you start to think of the impact, then you're not really coming
from a truthful place. I think the best thing to do for me is what's worked in
the past. Trust Chris and trust Gillian that we're doing our work right. But if
we're wrong, it's the first time we've been wrong.

Can you talk about the working relationship while getting back in the groove?

Gillian Anderson: There's something incredibly familiar when we get to work
together. There's a natural rhythm that we step into. It depends what the scene
is and how it's written and how it allows us to play on old dynamics.

When did you realize The X-Files was part of our culture?

Gillian Anderson: Probably the 3rd season. It actually hit me. We were working
every weekend doing magazine covers and press.

In the 6 years away, was it good to creatively ferment ideas for the characters?

David Duchovny: I wouldn't say we were doing that. I think we probably stopped
thinking. Though it took a while to stop thinking.

How did you get back into character?

Gillian Anderson: Every now and then we'd meet up and reminisce about the
characters. At the beginning, shortly after we started shooting, someone sent me
some clips put together on youtube. It was the first time I'd seen something
like that. "The intimate moments of Mulder and Scully."

[[OKAY STOP. TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH. THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR.]]

David Duchovny: Very romantic (laughs)

Gillian Anderson: And it was actually a good thing for me to see, to step in the
shoes of some of the audience members and see the history of the relationship
and try to honor that again.

David Duchovny: You're kinda striding the line of what's yours and theirs.
What's yours (points to us), what's mine, what's ours as creators of it and
what's yours as owners.

Conspiracy theories in general have exploded with youtube, mass communication,
broadband, all that. Did you look into those to fill your head and get
motivated?

David Duchovny: No, I remain a guy who skates on the surface of...I mean, I know
how to e-mail.

Gillian Anderson: I think I visited youtube by myself for the first time this
year.

TV and movies are different mediums, is it a different process to adapt to?

Gillian Anderson: Doing it for a film is different from doing it for a
television series. We've only done one other film and there's a difference in
lifting something to the big screen, I think, to wrap one's brain around that
when one's brain is actually used to doing the TV more. It's kind of odd.

David Duchovny: It's an interesting challenge as an actor. It's not quite like
being in a play, where you're re-creating the character every night from the
beginning, but it is something like that, I would imagine. There's a certain
kind of honoring of the past work that you've done. So it's tricky. It's
interesting. That makes it interesting.

David, at the end of the series, there was understandable ambivalence. You had
done it so long, you wanted to go out and do other things. Now that so much time
has passed, are you interested in doing another film in the series?

David Duchovny: Of course. Going out and doing other things was only a matter of
the fact that we were busy 10 months out of the year doing that. It was never a
hatred of "that thing," it was only a hatred of the fact that I couldn't get out
and do anything else.

Is Californication coming back for another season?

David Duchovny: Oh ya.

Are you done shooting that?

David Duchovny: Late April.

Gillian, do you know what you're doing next after The X-Files?

Gillian Anderson: Something in South Africa, something in Chicago.

Are you doing to direct anything?

Gillian Anderson: Ya, I hope to, there's something I've been hoping to finish
and direct for a really long time and I'm still committed to that being the
first feature that I direct.

David, do you have a project in the drawer?

David Duchovny: Ya, time and money. When the money comes together and I have
time.

X-Files Reunion Emotional

The producers of the upcoming X-Files sequel told SCI FI Wire that they got
emotional when stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson showed up for an
informal "table read" of the script, reuniting for the first time since the hit
Fox series went off the air in 2002."A month before we started filming, maybe
six weeks, David and Gillian came in and read the script at [director] Chris
[Carter's] kitchen table, and it was emotional to hear them say those words,"
writer/producer Frank Spotnitz said in a group interview at WonderCon in San
Francisco over the weekend."And then a week later, we had camera tests at Chris'
house, and [Anderson's] hair was red again, and David had ... got his hair cut
like Mulder again, and it was like, 'Oh, my.' It was like bringing back the
dead, in a way, or like finding somebody who'd gone missing for six years. So,
to me, it feels very powerful."Carter, who created the show and co-wrote the
sequel, had a similar reaction. "I actually was moved,"
Carter said between yawns (he flew directly to WonderCon on Saturday after
wrapping an all-night shoot at 6 o'clock that morning in Vancouver,
Canada)."It's funny, because ... we've been through so much together, and to ...
come back [from] what I would call a really good vacation away from it was a
really nice thing," Carter added. "And it allows us to start fresh. ... When
you're doing the TV series, you are doing it--for me it was 11 and a half months
a year. You take two weeks off, and then you go right back at it. It was nice to
take that breather and come back at this fresh and rejuvenated."Despite a
six-year hiatus, both Spotnitz and Carter--who were both executive producers of
the long-running TV series--said they had no problem writing the characters of
FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully again."I know it was sort of startling to
me how deep my connection still was to the characters after all of this time and
how much it mattered to me what's become of them and
what they think and what they would do," Spotnitz said. "It felt vital to me,
and it felt very interesting, and it was ... really fun. It was really very
enjoyable, working on the story and reconvening with them again."

First look: 'X-Files' returns to theaters, minus alien mythology

By Scott Bowles, USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES — The sequel is out there.

The conspiracy theories will not be.

Ten years after the first film and six years after the show went off the air,
The X-Files returns to theaters with Fox Mulder, Dana Scully — and a lot
riding on the bet that fans want more of the FBI's paranormal-investigating
agents.

The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running
"mythology" plotline — that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing
effort — that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late
1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and
ambiguous.

"We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads" when
the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and
director of the new movie. "We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology
conspiracy one."

That will come as welcome news to fans of the show's stand-alone episodes, which
included cults, ghosts, psychics and ancient curses.

Carter refuses to divulge any plot points of the movie, but says he wanted to
make the film immediately after the show ended. A contractual dispute with 20th
Century Fox kept it on the shelf until the case was settled out of court.

He says the delay may turn out to be a blessing.

"There's a whole audience I want to introduce X-Files to," Carter says. "There
were kids who couldn't watch it on TV because it was too scary. Now they're in
college. I wanted a movie that everyone could go to."

Whether they will could be a test of the show's legacy, says Blair Butler of the
G4TV network, which caters to video-game enthusiasts and science-fiction fans.

"At its strongest, it had really creepy stand-alone episodes," she says. "They
turned it into a great franchise. But a lot of years have passed. We'll see if
it's fallen off the radar."

She says the film could benefit from an ironic twist: the Writers Guild strike.

"I think it could be a sort comfort food for the people who loved how original
the show was and aren't seeing original TV now," she says.

But Carter believes they'll be drawn by something else: the show's stars, David
Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

"For me, The X-Files has always been a romance," he says. "They had an
intellectual romance that's very rare and restrained compared to so many
relationships on TV. I think that's what appealed most to the fans. And they're
back."

This picture really surprised me:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=40236

It's Mulder in an FBI jacket! I don't know what to
think about how they will work Mulder back into the
FBI... unless of course this is a flashback or
something.

Love,

Gillian just wrapped on a film called Boogie Woogie. Ironically, it
won't be out until after the X-Files film sequel, which hasn't even
begun filming yet.

From GAWS...

Gillian recently finished shooting 'Boogie Woogie', directed by
Duncan Ward.

Muse Productions describes this film as the true to life version
of the avaricious, sexually duplicitous contemporary art scene based
on the novel and screenplay by Danny Moynihan.

This ensemble piece about the London art world also stars Alan
Cumming, Danny Huston, Heather Graham, Christopher Lee, Joanna Lumley,
and Charlotte Rampling.

More information is available at Wikipedia.com.

Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman, activist, actor and musician, has taken ill. (He
played Albert Hosteen in five episodes, starting with "Anasazi".)

I found this on MySpace, posted by another Native American activist/artist
friend of his (Cleopache) who I know casually from around my local community.

Please send him your thoughts and prayers.

                                                      Dear friends,
I am re-posting this to all ---- to please take a moment today to send our dear
friend, Floyd, your prayers and positive energies during this time of illness.
Peace,
Cleo

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Brothers and sisters,

Floyd still is not out of the woods. We have lots of people at his bedside
holding vigil. But he is still really in a bad way.

WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS!!

Please do not try and call Floyd or Rosie. Floyds Phone is full of messages and
we are not going to empty them right now. You can e-mail me and let me know that
you are praying for him. I will make a record of the people who send me e-mails
and tell him.

Right now we are told that he can hear us when we talk to him. But for the most
part he is unconcious. We are up there singing to him and trying to get through
to him. Keith Secola came fly in yesterday. He went in right away and sang to
Floyd. Floyd seemed to respond to that.

Please send your prayers and your energy to help Floyd.

                  Duchovny exec producing kids show
David Duchovny has landed a half-hour live-action pilot at Cartoon Network. The
untitled project is about a junior high school student from a long line of
newsmen who turns his school AV Club into legitimate citywide news broadcast.
Duchovny will executive produce along with Even Stevens creator Matt Dearborn,
and Robert Mora. The new Duchovny show extends Cartoon Network's reach into the
live-action arena, following last December's debut of live-action/animated movie
Re-Animated, and a live-action series spinoff, Out of Jimmy's Head, which
premiered Friday night. The network also recently aired a live-action reality
special, Props, which gave kids a chance to meet their celebrity heroes.
Duchovny executive produces Californication, which just got picked up for a
second season on Showtime. (Hollywood Reporter)

David Duchovny Gets His Hands On 'X-Files' Sequel Script

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 21, 2007) — David Duchovny is back on TV in
Showtime’s “Californication,” but it may not be long before he hits the
big screen for another go-round of “The X-Files!”

David sat down with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, and he revealed that
not only is there a script for the “X-Files” sequel - he’s actually
read it!

“I have,” said David, when Billy asked if he’d read it. “But I’m sworn
to secrecy legally, actually. If I were to tell you anything about it I
would — I would be sued.”

Duchovny, who played the truth-seeking Agent Fox Mulder on the hit FOX
series (and in the feature film), indicated last month during the
Television Critics Association press tour that the long-delayed sequel
may finally be coming to fruition — with co-star Gillian Anderson “on
board” to reprise her role as skeptic-turned “believer,” Agent Dana
Scully.

He added that “X-Files” creator Chris Carter and series executive
producer Frank Spotnitz wrote the screenplay, which he had expected to
see within the week.

Well, apparently he’s seen it — and while he legally can’t discuss the
details...he wouldn’t want to anyway!

“We’re gonna try to keep it under wraps and try to keep it a surprise,”
he told Billy. “You know, unfortunately, I think with so much media
attention on show business, it’s hard to — it’s almost impossible to
think of, like, a ‘Sixth Sense’ coming out now.”

Duchovny is of course referring to the surprise twist ending of M.
Night Shyamalan’s 1999 film, which probably wouldn’t be able to stay a
“surprise” in this world of online spoilers.

In an interview with Sci-Fi.com last year, Spotnitz revealed that the
sequel’s story would not rely on the oft-confusing “alien conspiracy”
plotlines that permeated the show’s nine seasons.

“One of the things that was exciting about doing it is to not make it a
mythology story, and it’s like one of the stand-alone episodes,” he
said, adding, “it’s a bit scary.”

And while it remains to be seen if Spotnitz’s description still
applies, Duchovny is not about to spill the beans!

“I hope that we’re able to kind of keep this inside a bubble and
surprise people,” were his last words on the matter.

Hope for the X-Philes? Chris Carter swears that this time
there really is a script to an ''X-Files'' movie sequel... well, he swears one
is being worked on, anyway, but can't guarantee it'll ever get turned into an
actual movie

Believers who've waited almost 10 years for a second X-Files movie got a sudden
blast of hope last month when David Duchovny, speaking at the TCA summer press
tour in support of his Showtime series Californication, said on July 14 that he
and Gillian Anderson are both on board for a sequel and that he expected to see
a script within the next two weeks. Those two weeks came and went, and no
script or movie deal emerged, leaving many to wonder whether a film is any
closer now than it was in 1998.
We got X-Files creator Chris Carter on the phone to find out what's really up
with this project, and though he confirms that a sequel is indeed in the works,
he wouldn't commit beyond saying they are in the process of putting together a
script. Keep on believing...
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So, everyone's buzzing about the announcement that David
Duchovny made at TCA about expecting an X-Files script within two weeks. What’s
the status of the script? Is there a script?
CHRIS CARTER: There's a script being worked on.
Is the two-week time frame still applicable?
Roughly. I really don’t want to speak too much about it because I'm
superstitious, as you might imagine. But everything's in the works. But there's
plenty of business to be done too. The interconnectedness of the business has
proven to be a little bit complicated, so that's got to get done too.
Is it safe to say that you and the other major players involved are working
toward getting the movie made?
   Absolutely.
This rumor — the announcement that the X-Files movie is imminent seems to come
up every six months or every year.
We’re really working to make it happen now.
This time it's for real, you'd say?
Yes. I should say we're working to make it happen. It's for real that we're
working, but there are no guarantees that it will get made. I mean, it still
has to go through a lot of different things, including a budgeting process.
Are there any other factors that are going to be very important in determining
whether it comes through aside from just budgeting?
I think people's schedules, the budgeting, and finishing it before time gets
tight — late next spring when everyone thinks there's going to be a strike.
Is there a potential release date idea?
No. That's Fox. That will be their doing.
But if you're thinking about getting it done before strike it would start
sooner?
No, no, they are thinking about it for a summer movie, but as far as a date,
I couldn't say.
Everybody is very interested in whether you are a fan of any of this sort of
new breed of shows that seem to be very X-Files-inspired, like Lost and even
things like Buffy seemed like it was borrowing from your show for a while. Are
you a fan of any of those?
I thought the pilot for Lost was great. I'm sorry to say that I've just been
so busy I haven't had a chance to be a regular viewer, although I've seen a few
episodes on my iPod, and I think that's a great show, but I have to say that I
have, over the last few years, spent less time in front of the television than
maybe in my entire life. [Laughs].
Are there any other media that you think are taking over for you in terms of an
outlet for creativity? Are you enjoying graphic novels or anything like that?
No, just enjoying my Netflix account.
Thank you for agreeing to talk to us and we'll definitely look forward to
getting more details as they leak out.
I'll take you up on that when the time comes. Right now, for reasons that you
can probably imagine, I just want to really stay focused.

New X-Files movie 'coming soon'

David Duchovny plays a novelist in new TV comedy Californication
A new film reviving the cult 1990s TV series The X-Files is moving
closer to being made, according to reports.
David Duchovny, one of the show's stars, has told reporters he will
receive a script next week.

Duchovny and co-star Gillian Anderson are both "on board" to reprise
their roles as alien-hunting special agents Mulder and Scully, he
said.

The script has been written by creator Chris Carter and writer Frank
Spotnitz, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The pair co-wrote the first X-Files movie, which came out almost a
decade ago. The original thriller series was a hit when it ran from
1993-2002, winning three Golden Globes for best TV drama.

Duchovny was speaking at the Television Critics Association press
tour, promoting his new comedy Californication, in which he plays a
novelist struggling with a complicated private life.

  4. THE X-FILES (1993-2002)
  Created by Chris Carter
Once upon a time, the FBI sent no-nonsense special agent Dana Scully (Gillian
Anderson) to debunk the crackpot theories of special agent Fox ''Spooky'' Mulder
(David Duchovny). What they got instead was a conspiracy-fighting team so
powerful it threatened to bring down the shady men who'd infiltrated the highest
levels of government with their dreams of alien/human hybrid technology. What
did we get? One hell of a TV show — even if we never quite got the truth.
POP CULTURE LEGACY For the first time since The Twilight Zone, viewers could
ponder the mysteries of the universe and get scared silly. From inbred mutants
to satanic cults, Mulder and Scully's darting flashlights lit up some seriously
freaky darkness. And like Twin Peaks before it, Files made conspiracy-theorizing
an addictive couch-potato pastime.
THE BEST BIT For the perfect balance of mythology and monster-of-the-week,
pick up season 3. You'll get plenty of geeky goodness — the black oil, the
Cigarette Smoking Man, the chip in Scully's neck — but you'll also get brilliant
stand-alone episodes like ''Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose.'' When guest star
Peter Boyle, playing a winsome psychic, tells Scully she'll never die, it's hard
not to wish the same could have been said for this show's heyday. —Whitney
Pastorek

Anderson joins Nettelbeck's 'Helen'
Director makes English-language debut

By Ed Meza
Variety International
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117963045.html?categoryid=19&cs=1

BERLIN Gillian Anderson is set to star iin "Helen," the first
English-language film from German writer-director Sandra Nettelbeck.

Anderson, fresh from her starring roles in "The Last King of Scotland" and the
upcoming U.K. thriller "Straightheads," portrays a talented professor forced to
come to terms with her clinical depression.

Produced by Berlin-based Egoli Tossell in collaboration with Doug Mankoff's
Echo Lake Prods., pic will start shooting in the U.S. in September with support
from German regional subsidy Filmstiftung NRW.

"It's the story of a successful woman who has it all but whose life falls apart
as a result of this disease," said Egoli Tossell's Jens Meurer. "It's also
about her overcoming the illness against all the odds."

The gut-wrenching drama is a change of pace for Nettelbeck, who wrote and
directed the 2001 hit romantic comedy "Mostly Martha," which served as the
basis for Scott Hicks' upcoming remake "No Reservations" starring Catherine
Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhart, as well as the 2004 comedy "Sergeant Pepper,"
about a dog who inherits a fortune and befriends a lonely boy.

X-Files 2 Negotiations Wrap This Week Says Duchovny!

  Written by Robert Sanchez
  Tuesday, 27 March 2007

The idea for a second X-Files film has been in the works for a long time. The
IESB attended the TV Set press day today and spoke with David Duchovny about
just that!

Back in 2005 Duchovny told IGN, "According to USA Today, Duchovny told
reporters at the recent 10th Annual Critics' Choice Awards that he expected to
shoot X-Files 2 some time this year or in early 2006. Elaborating on the
project, the actor said it would not involve the alien conspiracy storyline that
helped make the television series so popular. Instead, he stated, it would be a
standalone supernatural horror film."

Well we know it obviously didn't happen, but things never happen quickly in
Hollywood.

Duchovny spoke about it briefly to the IESB today while promoting TV Set.

Duchovny says X-Files fans will have their second film after all! He revealed to
the IESB that they were in final negotiations for the second X-Files film and
should wrap this week. Plans are to start shooting in '08 or sooner!

If negotiations get nailed down this week as planned, it looks like he will once
again fill the shoes of our favorite Special Agent, Fox Mulder.

IESB will keep you updated!

UPDATE! We followed up with David Duchovny after our brief discussion ealier in
the day regarding X-Files 2, we wanted to get a bit more info on the script and
other cast. Here is a transcript of what he said below --

Q: Is the storyline you talked about last year still the same? It won’t involve
aliens or a science fiction element and have more of a horror element?

David Duchovny: Not a horror film when compared to today’s standards like Saw
and Hostel but more of a supernatural thriller.

Q: Who is all returning for the film?

DD: The story will revolve around Gillian’s character, Dana Scully, and my
character, Fox Mulder.

Q: Are they going to address the time issue, the space between each film? Are
they still in the FBI?

DD: There is no script completed, they are still developing the entire story.

UPDATE #2! For those of you who wrote in and asked, we wanted to get the rest of
the X-Files tidbits up about the second film including information about Robert
Patrick, here are some further quotes from David Duchovny --

Q: Could you give us an update on the X-Files movie?

DD: We'll do another movie or two, we'll continue to do movies if the next one
does well.

Q: Is there a script already written?

DD: There is a board, as we say, a story.

Q: Do you think Robert Patrick will be back?

DD: No, no, it's just going to be the core [characters].

Sounds good to me! We'll update again if any further details develop!
