The War Games 7
Are the Doctor and his two young friends doomed to be squashed inside
the SIDRAT?
Can the resistance ever organise into a force capable of challenging
the War Lords?
And what will it take to get that General Smythe to stop swearing on
screen?
Only you can find out.

Well that about wraps it up for Troughton's tenure. At this point I
must thank (Upon behalf of myself and other readers) all those who
contributed to the completion and correction of the first two Doctors.

Obviously I could hardly do this without recognising the enormous
continuing effort that people are putting into battling with all of
the other stories.

Unfortunately, personal circumstances of late mean that I won't be
able to do any more transcriptions for a while, so I've taken myself
off the database for the time being. I'll still be in and out from
time to time though.

Cheers people,

Has anyone still got their Target adaptation of "The Mutants"? I'm
having trouble making out the Marshal's words right near the start
of Episode 1 where the old man is being persued. He shouts out "Over
here", then "Move in" and then something I can't make out, followed
by "he's heading for the..." and then another couple of words that I
can't make out. Can anyone supply the missing text?

Thanks

'Over here! Move in this way!'

'The river ... he's heading for the river.'

'After him! Cut him off! Mutt! Mutt! Mutt!'

That's how the TARGET version runs.

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks for that! I've just started to get the dialogue down for
Episode 2 and have come across another few points that I might need
clarification on. If it's ok with you, I'll post the details in a
few days.

"The Mutants", Episode One. I'm afraid that I can't confirm if the
Marshal's words in the transmitted episode conform to that stated in
the previous post from the Target novelisation. The words are just
too indistinct and do not sound like "River". I've therefore left
them as a blank line in the first scene, unless anyone can tell me
different?

...with "The Mutants", specifically Episode 2 and the scene early on
in the episode where Ky and Jo materialise down on Solos. Ky's first
words are drowned out by the sound effect of their materialisation
but they carry on as "No Overlord can exist without a mask."

The second 'lost' line is seconds later when the alarm starts to
blare out and covers what Ky says but it carries on as "...outside.
The atmosphere is poisonous! No Overlord can exist for more than a
few hours without a mask."

Can anyone advise what appears in the Target book?

Many thanks

Updated and corrected versions of Episodes 1 and 2 of "The Space
Pirates". Episode 1 especially has been updated to describe the
individual film sequences that are not detailed in the present
transcript from "Earthbound Timelords". This updated version is from
the CD and the DWAS Season Chronicles. Episode 2 is revised from the
video.

I've also added a file called "Corrections". The end of this file
has the missing "French" sequence from "The War Games" Episode 7.
I've transcribed this from my own limited knowledge of French, a few
dictionaries and the help of a colleague at work. The only part
which defeats me is Du Pont's very first line. It sounds very
like "Que Bous?" but I'm told no such phrase exists in French. Can
anyone help?

The first part of this file are corrections to the reprises and
credits of "The Sensorites". I suspect that the transcripts on the
site were derived from a "movie" version, rather than the correct
episodic version. I've therefore put down where the episodes should
begin, where the title credits appear and what the correct end
credits should state. There are a few other stories where this needs
to be done but one at a time.

Further transcripts of "The Mutants" soon.

Apologies for the delay in responding; perhaps it simply took me a
little time to drag myself to The Mutants. Odd, that.

Anyway, John, I have watched the passage in question, and I fear the
Target novelisation is of little help, though I will add it below
just in case. However, I think I have made out some of the lines from
the actors.

Ky and Jo argue for some time without any sound carrying from them,
but then his voice fades in faintly with, I believe, the words "You
must have a mask - no Overlord can exist without a mask."

Are there any lip-readers on the group? It strikes me that this would
be a useful skill.

The second 'lost' line is also just about decipherable, and includes
a couple of murmured words that you missed within your transcript.
Try this:
Ky (looking around) says "The surface of Solos." That was difficult,
so I may be wrong. After a pause, he continues: "Don't you see? While
it's daylight outside, the atmosphere is poisonous to you! No
Overlord can exist for more than a few hours without a mask."

Meanwhile, here is the Target adaptation, which begins with Jo
disorientated rather than straight into argument as on TV:

Ky was shaking her roughly. 'We're going outside. Better put your
mask on.'
   Jo looked blankly at him.
'You <i>must</i> have a mask,' said Ky impatiently. 'All Overlords
carry them.'
'That's what I keep telling you. I'm not an Overlord! Anyway, what
do I need a mask for?'
'During the hours of daylight the atmosphere of Solos isn't healthy
for humans. That's why all Overlords use oxy-masks.'

Yours

Giles

Many thanks for your help. Interesting to note your first comments
regarding "The Mutants". I must admit that I approached this story
with some trepidation, expecting to hate transcribing it but it's
proved to be quite enjoyable. It's followed a pattern that I've
begun to notice in that stories that I look forward to are a drag
and a real pain whereas stories that I dread are the opposite. The
most enjoyable transcription that I've done so far is....wait for
it...."The Web Planet"! Bill Strutton's dialogue, once past episode
1, is wonderful and I came away from that story with a new respect
for it. Stories like "The Daemons" and "The Sea Devils" proved to be
dull to transcribe, even though I find them interesting to watch.

I have a Doctor Who novel that I'm writing and I thought it would be
nice to share it with you guys. (Mostly cos no one will get to read
it if I don't. The BBC guidlines say that my story will be regected
because it contains more than one Doctor.)

So, I've posted the first Chapter now. If you like the idea, read
it. If not, email me and I'll remove it if enough people don't like
the idea.

I know this site is for Dr Who transcripts of episodes, but I feel
that an original story would be nice here as well. If I'm posting in
the wrong place then please feel free to yell and scream at me and
I'll exterminate the file.

If you like it, I'll try and ost a new chapter each Thursday at
around 10 or 11 am. I'm now at Uni and Thursday is a lecture at 9
then one at 3 so I'm just sat on a computer all morning.

Hope you like.

Lonnie Readioff

PS - Feel free to pass the story to other Dr Who fans but no money
can change hands because of it. That would be wrong (particularly if
I don't get a cut!) If someone from BBC books reads and likes or if
it gets published then I will remove it (making people buy the book!)

I'll try and make this the last request for a while!

Can anyone advise if the Target novelisation helps with the
following indistinct speeches:

"The Mutants" Episode 3 - Ky's comment to Jo as he guides her into a
nook into the caves to hide as the mutants start to attack them. He
says "Don't worry" and then something else. Jo then says "Be
careful, Ky" as he goes to confront the mutants.

Same episode - Varan's cry when he first returns to his village. His
first word is either foreign or alien. He then says "Varan is
returned!"

Same episode - Ky's first words to Stubbs and Cotton as they catch
up with him and the Doctor & Jo as overheard by the Marshal by
radio. Stubbs then says "It's us, Doctor - Stubbs and Cotton. Is
Miss Grant with you?"

"The Mutants" Episode 4 - In the sequence where Stubbs, Cotton, Ky
and Jo make their way from Sondergaard's lab to the surface, they
meet a Skybase guard in the tunnels. Stubbs tries to bluff his way
past him and says "Alright, mate? It's me - Stubbs" and then
something else before the guard fires at him.

"The Mutants" Episode 5. Any idea what Cotton says to Ky outside the
Bac Decon chamber they have just escaped from near to start of the
episode just before the Marshal recaptures them. Stubbs says to
Jo "Are you alright, Miss?" but the other comment is spoken over.

"The Mutants" Episode 6. Does the Target book give any indication
what Jo shouts outside the Marshal's office as she, Ky and Cotton
try to gain entry to join in the investigation?

"The Time Monster" Episode 2. What are Dr. Cook's initial comments
to Dr. Percival when they are leaving the institute. I've picked
up "I'm sorry, Charles, but the whole thing smells of bad fish" but
the last couple of words are lost.

Same episode - does the Target book state what Dr. Percival is
saying as he and the Master enter the TOMTIT lab near the end of the
episode having thinked that they have tricked Benton to leave. The
Master's reply is "Time? Soon I shall have the time in the world,
literally." but the rest is said in the corridor outside.

"The Time Monster" Episode 3 - The Roundhead Officer shouts two
commands to his troops as they attack the UNIT convoy. Can anyone
tell what they are?

"The Time Monster" Episode 4 - What does the Doctor mutter just
before the Master's TARDIS materialises within his own a few seconds
after the line "Right, coming in to land now, Jo." It may be an ad-
lib.

"The Time Monster" Episode 5 - What is Jo's last line that she
whispers to Lakis outside the palace having seen Krasis take Hippias
to the temple when they are trying to get access to the King and the
Doctor. Lakis' immediate preceeding line is "Have a care. The Lord
Crito is no friend to Hippias."

"The Time Monster" Episode 6 - Anyone want to have a go at the
Spanish phrases that the Doctor uses to the Minotaur?

Same episode - could be an ad-lib but any idea what the Master says
during the destruction of Atlantis after the Doctor's line "He'll
never obey you! Don't you understand yet what you've done! He's out
of control"

Sorry that there's so many but I've made good progress with these
two stories and these are the final points to decipher before I can
state that I've transcribed as much of the dialogue as possible.

Many thanks

John

from the televised version on a couple of instances, but it might be helpful in
others.

Sorry it's taken so long to do the transcripts - the next script will
not now be until after I get the DVD in November. The reason is I
copied the audio of episode 1 to cassette to type up the script and
while I was doing this for episode 2 the VCR decided to eat the
tape. So that basically renders my Time Lord Box Set worthless
because every time I try and play the tape the machine mangles that
little bit more. . .

So, as I have now pre-orded the DVD (for the lovely Bessie modle on
the front) I will start transcribing again when it arrives on or
about 26 November. Sorry for the delay, they should all be up by
CHristmas. I had planned to get them up by 23 November, but
something always seems to go wrong when I plan something. TRhe next
thing that will happen is the DVD won't arrive. . .

But hey ho. Thats life.
