Hi Everyone,

Happy Winter Solstice, etc.

Lucy is going to be on The Bonnie Hunt Show today.? Where I am on the Right
Coast, it comes on at Noon.? I guess she'll be talking about Bedtime
Stories--the Adam Sandler movie she's in that comes out this coming week and BSG
that starts its new season in two or three weeks, and her gig on The L Word that
premieres on January 18.

So much Lucy to look forward to.

No, absolutely not. Far from it. Farscape didn't. Battlestar Galactica
didn't. Dr Who didn't. Blakes 7 didn't. HitchHiker's Guide to the
Galaxy didn't, in any of its incarnations. Red Dwarf didn't. Probably
even Star Trek didn't (though I wouldn't know, I never watched it).
Of Terry Pratchett's ~30 'discworld' novels, only maybe one could remotely be
described as having elements of that.

That's only the first few that spring to mind.

I have no idea about Harry Potter.

Since I have this cold I took the time to watch Legend last night. I have a
few thoughts:

First off, do all scifi/fantasy stories revolve around "reluctant orphan who
discovers he/she isn't who he/she thinks he/she is, but everyone else is
eager to believe and assist in his/her quest"?? Star Wars was the first thing
that came to mind. Then I thought it was going to have some religious element
when you have the "Horde" descend upon a village to kill the new born males.
I didn't see any magi, but a prophet was killed none the less.

Second, is the Dark Lord guy the same baddie in To Helcion and Back?? The
accent is familiar as well as his look.

Third, I like the magic stuff... has a real celtic feel. Joseph LoDuca
music not withstanding, the technical parts are on par with Xena and Herc
(photography, special effects, music, stunt fighting ect.) I think they picked
up a
few tricks from Peter Jackson ala Lord of the Ring in these areas also. I
like the costumes.

Fourth, wasn't Cloe Smith part of the Xena-verse? I saw her name in the
credits. Same with this Mark Beesley.

Fifth, if you think back to the original episode of Xena, not the 3 part
backstory on Herc but the premier episode, it was a little clunky in spots.
But
the elements were their for an interesting story to unfold over time. I
believe that they needed to set the stage and go thru all these preliminary
required story points as they did in this 2 hour episode. By the end of Season
1
of Xena they whole group had found their footing. I suspect that RT & SR
know the lay of this land well now, so I suspect we should be getting that
richer deeper story telling far sooner into the season on Legend of the Seeker
(LOTS).

Like you Bill, I'm willing to buy in for a while and see how it goes. I
agree, it's great to see New Zealand again. Besides, this weeks episode has
Ted
Raimi as a guest start. Though you could not make out the face of this
woman they kept tossing about in the clips, my heart skipped a beat wondering
if
might not be ROC.

Wishing I had a Wisp Crystal to show me the way,
Jeannine

and that was Jason playing Richard's dad wasn't it? The NZ scenery great as

My oh my son.... where have you been? I've missed you.

Portia had put up the website at one time, but on my local stations it will
be on the CW station. The old WB station. Set your dvr for this weekend for
the 2 hour movie premier. I think you are going to like it Bill.

Hi Jeannine,

So far, I'm more into the locations and trying to recognize bit players.  The
story hasn't caught me yet.  I hate to confess it since I truly am STILL a
hardcore nutball, but it took me a while to warm up to Xena.  I didn't start
loving it until the end of Season 2 and by the time the two Debt episodes ended,
I was lost in the Xenaverse.  That being said, I hope that Legend of the Seeker
will be a new series for me to enjoy.  I like the idea of having some part of
my weekend being ACTION-PACKED!  We'll see what happens.  It would be nice to
see ROC guest on a few episodes, too.

Wow Portia, thanks for that update. I'm actually excited again about TV now

that I know that RT and SR will be doing a quality show like Xena.

When I watched the Making of Legend with LL I kept thinking, "Hey, I know

that house, that's Gabrielle's parents place." OR "Hey, I know that run of

sand, it's for Legacy." OR "Hey, I know that stretch of water/sand. That's

where Callisto killed Gabby's only husband."

I'm also excited to know that Ted Raimi will be back on TV. I've missed his

funny face. And the possibility of LL back in the saddle, so to speak, is

also exciting.

Maybe the long dark night of quality fantasy television is over at last.

I can't answer this question, but I did find this article from TVWeek.

Rob Tapert, executive producer of

ABC Studios’ syndicated series “Legend of the Seeker,” is returning to
the

syndie market after several years of being frustrated with the business.

Mr. Tapert, along with his partner,

director Sam Raimi, produced notable fantasy first-run syndication staples

including “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Hercules: The Legendary
Journeys.”

After “Xena” wrapped in 2001 (racking up 134 episodes in the process), Mr.

Tapert said the syndie market wasn’t what it had been.

“First-run syndication was being driven into

the slums,” he said, adding that the quality of first-run syndicated fare

had

slipped. After a lengthy run, Mr. Tapert and Mr. Raimi turned their focus

toward their horror film company, Ghost House Pictures.

Several years later, Mr. Raimi

introduced Mr. Tapert to Terry Goodkind’s “The Sword of Truth” book
series,

which both thought would translate well to television, and they turned back

toward syndication as the medium.

Shot in New Zealand, “Legend”

follows woodsman Richard Cypher, who discovers he has magical powers. Teaming

up with the mysterious Kahlan and the wizard Zedd, the group sets out to stop

an evil tyrant.

“At heart, Sam and I are

independents and mavericks,” Mr. Tapert said, adding that removing the

network

from the equation erased a level of bureaucracy for the show to go through.

While the budget is slimmer than

that of a broadcast show, syndication guarantees 22 episodes, which allows

for

stronger story planning, key to a fantasy-based show focusing on the

characters

and their journey.

“What we love about sci-fi and

fantasy are the heroes and the journeys they go on,” he said. He added that

sci-fi and fantasy on TV allows viewers to stay with the characters longer

than

a 90-minute film would.

Mr. Tapert didn’t rule out

appearances of “Xena” star Lucy Lawless, his wife, or “Hercules’”
Kevin

Sorbo

in “Legend,” but they won’t be appearing in the first 22 episodes. As for

Sam

Raimi pal Bruce Campbell, who shows up in nearly all of Mr. Raimi’s

productions, “Legend” might be the exception.

“I don’t think he’s available to

us,” Mr. Tapert said, due to Mr. Campbell’s prominent role on USA’s
“Burn

Notice.” But frequent collaborator Ted Raimi, Sam’s brother, is appearing
in

“Legend.”

follows woodsman Richard Cypher, who discovers he has magical powers. Teaming
up with the mysterious Kahlan and the wizard Zedd, the group sets out to stop
an evil tyrant.

“At heart, Sam and I are
independents and mavericks,” Mr. Tapert said, adding that removing the network
from the equation erased a level of bureaucracy for the show to go through.

While the budget is slimmer than
that of a broadcast show, syndication guarantees 22 episodes, which allows for
stronger story planning, key to a fantasy-based show focusing on the characters
and their journey.

“What we love about sci-fi and
fantasy are the heroes and the journeys they go on,” he said. He added that
sci-fi and fantasy on TV allows viewers to stay with the characters longer than
a 90-minute film would.

Mr. Tapert didn’t rule out
appearances of “Xena” star Lucy Lawless, his wife, or “Hercules’”
Kevin Sorbo
in “Legend,” but they won’t be appearing in the first 22 episodes. As for
Sam
Raimi pal Bruce Campbell, who shows up in nearly all of Mr. Raimi’s
productions, “Legend” might be the exception.

“I don’t think he’s available to
us,” Mr. Tapert said, due to Mr. Campbell’s prominent role on USA’s
“Burn
Notice.” But frequent collaborator Ted Raimi, Sam’s brother, is appearing in
“Legend.”

I watched the 30 minute show with LL...and noticed Jay is in the first

episode...which is fitting since he was in the first episode of Xena.

However I didn't see the familiar Ren. Pictures. Did RT and SR make a new

company to bring this show to us?

It starts tomorrow in the US at 8pm (check local listings).? Lucy Lawless will
host the premiere episode.

Hi Everyone,

I was listening to the weather channel and they were talking about the danger in
Gavelston and surrounding areas.? They specifically mentioned Katy, TX where ROC
is from and where she has family and friends.

To all Xenites and ROC's loved ones trying to deal with this latest hurricane,
my thoughts are with all y'all.

Hi Everybody,

Long time!

On Mary D's site there is a page with Lucy's casting agent's promotional photo
and credits for Lucy.

It is amazing to see how she lists herself in her various roles.? For Xena,
instead of putting "LEAD," she put SERIES REGULAR.? I have a feeling most STARS
of programs would not put series regular.? I suppose once she goes for the
audition, she would say "I was Xena," (as if they didn't know).

Here is the site: http://www.lucylawless.info/credits.php
and

The photo is lovely, too.? Lucy is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful woman:

I have a decent collection (action figures, larger dolls, lunchbox,
gym bag, trading cards, toys, figurines, collector plates, etc.) and
would be willing to part with it all for the cost of shipping.

I'd hate to throw everything away, but I need to seriously reduce
clutter in my humble abode, and I'm not into the collection anymore.

Please email me if interested.

The NewXenaland 'Visitors Guide' and 'Locations' pages are now at
http://crnz.info/nx/index.html
- and, they're still linked off the NewXenaland main page which is still at
http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/newxenaland/.

Also, a backup copy still resides at http://cr01.orcon.net.nz/nx/index1.html

They are NOT at cr.qc1.net, which has sunk without trace (along with the rest
of Qc1.net. I have no idea what happened or where it's gone).

If you have any links to the main page at Angelfire, or the original pages at
orcon.net.nz, no need to change them. If you have any links (probably more
recent ones) to qc1.net, though, they won't work.

I'm hoping to get the word out so anyone Googling for it (and people still do,
they email me about it occasionally) can find them. I read that the best
way to get Google to recognise a change quickly is to put a 301 'permanent
redirect' on the old site. This would be an excellent idea except for two
minor snags: 1. I can't find the old site to put anything on, 'cos it's
disappeared and 2. If I could put anything on it, the Googlebots wouldn't
find it, 'cos it's disappeared. Now I know technically that's just two
facets of the one snag, but it's such a biggie I thought I'd mention it
twice. :)

Anyway, I now have a Domain Name (yep, I went mad and registered 'crnz.info'
at Godaddy for $1.19 (US) - no expense too great for this guy!) and all the
business of getting host space and pointing the DNS name at it seems to have
worked, which is bleeping amazing - so if their new home at webhostingnz ever
disappears (as I'm sure it won't, ever :) then I hopefully should just have
to redirect the domain.
