A group for Browncoats centralized in Vancouver, British Columbia. All British Columbian, Canadian, and American Browncoats are welcome to join, however when Browncoat events begin to take place, the events will be planned to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
What is a Browncoat?
A Browncoat is someone who fought for the Independents during the war that took place in Joss Whedon's Firefly.
What is Firefly?
Firefly is said by many to be one of the most brilliant, original, and well made Science Fiction TV shows ever created. Granted, this may be an exaggeration, but Firefly is nonetheless an excellent show. It takes place some 500 years in the future. Earth has been essentially abandoned, and hundreds of planets have been terraformed for man to begin to live on. The core planets formed the Alliance, and most notably the outer planets resisted, forming the Independents. Malcolm Reynolds ("Mal") fought on the side of the Independents, and now he pilots the ship, Serenity, with a ragtag crew, going through the galaxy trying to make a (dis)honest buck here and there. Think futuristic western space opera.
Who is Joss Whedon?
Joss Whedon is best known for being the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and the movie, Serenity.
What is Serenity?
In addition to being the name of Mal's ship, it was also the name of a feature film. It didn't do as well as hoped (it was a great film, following the events of the last episode of Firefly "Objects in Space"), and its creation was brought about by Browncoat (that's us!) support.
What happened to Firefly?
In short, Firefly got a bum rap. It was cancelled after only 11 episodes (3 unaired), despite critical acclaim. Joss Whedon, however, has refused to give up, and though nothing is concrete, is hopeful about continuing Firefly.
Right now? Fox, Universal, and SCI/FI (the last two owned by NBC). SCI/FI replays episodes, and they're Firefly's best shot.
