The Tv series is great just as the film was but I don't suggest you read
too many posts before seeing the whole series. People will post their
opinions of what takes place and I feel this would be the biggest
spoiler for you. You should first decide what your own opinions are and
then join the group and hear what others have to say to maybe add on to
your thoughts. Otherwise you will be completely biased as to what is
happening as you watch the series. Just my 2 cents!

-Ian

Oh yeah, I saw the FWWM before seeing any episodes as well so you're not
the only one out there.

hello all,

this is my first posting to twinpeaks-l, and i'd like to begin it with a
confession...

yes, i did see fire walk with me BEFORE the actual series... argh! in
fact, i haven't seen anything else but this film and the first episode
of the series. oh yes... but i've read the diary.

so maybe this list isn't quite the right place for me... like "come back
when you've seen the whole stuff". :) and maybe i'll be a silent guest
at first and only read other postings. but i'll see the series as soon
as i'll have a chance to get them. if it's only half as good as the film
(my brother told me it's the other way round), then i can't wait to see
the tv series.

greetings from germany,

Joel,
Hi there. I also have a list at one list. We have been doing a TP Role Playing
Game for a few months now, but have decided to start over in episode for instead
of just a piece of writing. We are having auditions for characters right now. If
you wish to take a look at what we've done, go to our web site:
Or subscribe to one of our lists (we are in the process of switching). The first
one, and the one we are moving from is: "tprpg@onelist.com"
The second one, which we will be moving to is: "peaks@onelist.com".
I hope you'll take a few minutes to give us a look. We are hoping this time
around we'll come up with work that even David Lynch would be proud of. Thanks,
JennyEve

No problem, Stacy. Once they are posted on the newsgroup and this list, they
are free for anyone to keep and/or archive on their site. The only thing I
would ask would be a link to my site, where I'd keep the main archive, a FAQ
on the round robins, and maybe a short biography on each of the authors.

Joel, as this list is very very new, nothing has been proposed :)

I, as list-moderator, have no problems with things like this being
posted to the list. I would also like (if you have no objections) to
post them to my site, when each chapter is finished :)

Dear Twin Peakers,
[A copy of this is also being sent to alt.tv.twin-peaks]

Although a long time fan of the show, I am relatively new to this mailing
list, so if what I am about to propose has been done, please let me know.

In another newsgroup I am involved in, fan fiction is wrote in moderated
round robin which is a hell of a lot of fun. Now I've seen bits and pieces
of TP fan fiction floating around the net, but it doesn't seem to be in any
organised fashion. At least, not that I have seen.

Now, having recently rewatched the TP series I have found myself again so
frustrated that TP finished so many open ended threads, and that such a
quality show was cut in its prime. Its been six years since the last TP
product, and I think its pretty safe to say there will be no more. The only
way we can keep TP alive, fresh and happening, is through fan fiction.

What I propose is this. Fan fiction done in a round robin, which I volunteer
to moderate. I'll ask for about 10 or 12 people to volunteer to write
chapters. I'll make a list of those people and assign them a chapter and a
date in which to submit. One chapter each week. The idea of round robins is
that a chapter resolves some of what has been written before and leaves some
nice new juicy things for the next author to get their teeth into. Each
"round" of 12 chapters is treated like two episodes, which corresponds to
two days TP time. So the first six chapters is one day, the next six
chapters is the following day. Its important to point out, as far as dong
the round robin, that authors try very hard not to forget or leave certain
plot threads hanging. Its an awful thing when the last author in the round
robin finds they have to tie up numerous loose ends. Now, with the nature of
TP being a serial, of course not all the plot threads have to be tied up at
all, but arcs that have been started must be followed through. We shouldn't
have a particular story line ignored for four chapters, that sort of thing.
Also, try not to blantantly contradict what has been written before.

The first story written should be written to directly follow on from the
final TP episode. The chapters are written and then submitted to the
moderator the day its due. The moderator will check spelling and any
problems as far as contradicting what has gone before, and then it will be
submitted to the newsgroup and mailing list.

So that's it? What do you think? Is this something people would be
interested in? I will have a website up to archive the stories so that new
additions to our team can refer to it.

Again, please note, I am relatively new to this mailing list, so if this has
been done or tried before, I apologise for not knowing.

anyone seen LH on DVD? Wondering if this might be the release that makes me
purchase one finally. I would be VERY tempted if Lynch gave a commentary on
the disc.

Something deplorable going on with DVDs tho....they seem to be using the
extra space on the disc to simply put both wide screen and pan and scan on
them instead of going out of the way to put extras on the disc like
director's commentaries and such. I haven't seen this done on every disc,
but some of the more recent releases have this...hope it doesn't start a
trend.

And last, but not least, and collectors on the list that are going thru
places like Video Search and Luminous? I'd like to compare notes with
anyone who knows who either of these two are, I've ordered or seen stuff
from both and a few others......

In the new issue of Fangoria (the one with her on the cover) there is
an article about John Carpenter's new flick "Vampires". Miss Lee
plays a vampire :) There are some nice pix of our favorite dead

i don't think it is really supposed to. it's just a wonderful Lynchian
moment of pure unsettling weirdness. Lynch loves doing these kinda bits --
you can see them a lot in his films -- like the "hey babe" scene in BLUE
VELVET where a car cruises by Jeffrey and Sandy and some guy just says,
"Hey baby..." to Sandy and drives off! haha... it really doesn't have to
do anything with anything -- it's just weird and funny and odd. it adds to
overall mood and atmosphere. i love it.

There are none out right now. I know of one project he's working on with
some Japanese company (but it's not a platform game!), supposedly titled
something like 'Woodcutters and Fiery Ships From Outer Space' -not sure if I
got it right... I don't know of a release date, and I wouldn't trust it if I
knew, but given the time it takes to make a PC game nowadays (even for
non-perfection maniacs like Lynch), it wouldn't be strange if we had to wait
more than a year or two from now. I hope I'm wrong and it's in a far more
advanced state than I think!

Bear in mind that what I know is only second-hand, though...

I don't keep track, but in the NG you'll find several references to TP
samples in a bunch of records -one of them supposedly ends with the Giant

There is a TP FAQ, a FWWM FAQ and a 'general' FAQ. I can't give you pointers
right now (I don't have access to the Net from where I'm writing), but you
can try with 'Twin Peaks On-Line' on your searcher -I'm fairly sure that was
the name of the page I got them from. But there you won't get many
universally accepted theories on TP, I guess with TP nothing is universally
accepted. ;)

I feel the same. I always deal with visual horror with a big smile, but when
it comes to psychological horror I immediately go hiding under my bed -which
is not a comfortable place to sleep, let me tell you!

most unlikely scene, though powerful as you say. Then I found a way to
explain it: as the police were already there, maybe she was in a hallway or
something and overheard them. Anyway, it's still one of the less natural
scenes in the pilot... but the fact that this is the 'worst' only goes to
show how great the pilot was.

Hi!

1) When it first originally aired here in Spain (some three or four months
after it began running in the USA, I think; BTW, I'm now 31.) I've always
been a fan of David Lynch, and the fact that he was making a TV series drove
me mad with anticipation. But that was nothing compared to the state of
shock I went after seeing the pilot!

2) Um... I don't really know... Right after it was first aired they re-run
it given the huge success and I watched it all again... Then I bought the
pilot and watched it two or three times... Then I bought the box set which I
have seen two times from beginning to end... Then I bought FWWM and watched
it four or five times... And then I had the 'brilliant' idea of making
Spanish transcripts of movie & eps, and I've been watching fragments over
and over again for the last three months. I guess by the time I'm dead I'd
have watched each ep over 12 or 15 times, and the transcripts will be almost
ready!

3) Many characters are my favourites one way or another. In the pilot I got
struck with Nadine -such a strange character! (Later I learnt to cordially
hate her.) Then I wished I was Harry S Truman (the character, I mean.) Then,
for more hormone-driven reasons, I fell in love both with Norma & Shelly and
seriously considered taking over the RR. AND I loved Annie too (one of the
few, it seems.) You could also say the Log Lady was my favourite way before
TP, when I read about an idea Lynch was toying about with a woman in a
circus that carried around a log like a baby and it not only read people's
minds but knew many secrets about the universe and everything. Strangely,
though, neither Cooper nor Audrey nor Laura seemed to me especially
interesting at first sight...

4) I live a Lynch life in which everything goes in circles. I met my then
girlfriend at work talking about how great TP was. By the time the series
got to its end our relationship did too (no cause-effect relation here... I
think.) Then I had another girlfriend. Years passed, she got married (to
another), I bought the box set, she divorced her husband and we were
together again, I began with the transcripts thing and then I'm again with
the first girlfriend I mentioned. Unlikely but true! So, I guess TP changed
my life because it made a soap opera character out of me!

And guess what! I still love Norma of all people!

from Mike Dunn's David Lynch website:

"Woodcutters From Fiery Ships"

David Lynch will team with anime producer Bandai and two Japanese partners
to produce a digital adventure to be released on DVD-ROM, the Internet,
and in novelization form. The project is tentatively entitled "Woodcutters
From Fiery Ships". Lynch will then make a live-action version of the film
based on its story and characters.

Lynch will act as both executive producer and story creator for the
project. The project is described as a sci-fi horror film, slated for
completion in the summer of 1999 at a cost of 250 million yen. The project
is being funded by Multimedia Finance Co, a finance firm affiliated with
Bandai Co., and Synergy Inc and Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co. Stieg Hedlund,
creator of Blizzard Entertainment's hit computer game "Diablo," will head
the design team."

David Lynch says, "I saw the work that Synergy did on GADGET - the way
that the game delivered an immersive experience to the user. By
collaborating with Synergy, I look forward to Woodcutters From Fiery Ships
expanding existing forms in terms of story, characters and environment. I
hope we will give people totally unexpected experiences."

Neal Edelstein, SubStation partner and producer for Woodcutters, who was
instrumental in putting David together with this multimedia project says,
"David's involvement in this project will create an entirely new audience
for his work, who, together with those that already know and love David's
craft, will experience his storytelling in a whole new way."

Natalie Fay, President of Synergy's US operations, responsible in large
part for the partnership, and who will also produce the title says, "David
Lynch is not just a filmmaker, but an artist who works with photography,
paint, music, sculpture, and now interactive entertainment. His
willingness to lend his talents to every phase of this project will lead
it to a higher level than ever attained before in gaming. He's so cool
because he wants create a game that even hard-care gamers will enjoy. He's
not interested in just putting together a string of video clips for your
PC."

Hey guys,
I'm new to the list, and to the TP 'net fandom, so I thought I would
introduce myself. My name is Joel Aarons from Melbourne, Australia. I've
recently been sick, and so when bed-ridden, I decided to rewatch all of Twin
Peaks, which I haven't seen since it first aired.

And now I'm hooked and am facinated to learn all I can about what all the
others out there have theorised on various things throughout the series.

Question: Is there an FAQ out there that goes through some universally
accepted theories on TP?

Following on from what I've been reading on the newsgroup, I would have to
say that apart from the BOB scenes of lurching toward Maddy over the couch,
etc, the scariest moment for me was more of a psychological one. When Coop
learns, through the Secret Diary, that Laura had exactly the same dream as
Coop, about the Black Lodge and about Coop and Laura together there,
talking. That really freaked me out.

My favourite moments, though, was in the pilot where the Palmers (and later
James and Donna) find out Laura's been killed. This is really powerful TV at
its best, and although from the first moments, you know this girl Laura is
dead, the acting of the characters and the music combine to make it so
moving that, although you don't know anything about this girl and you're
only about 10 minutes in, it really brings tears to your eyes. Brilliant,
brilliant stuff!

Finally another question that bugged me. The scene in the pilot where the
student can be seen running and screaming at the school, and Donna realises
that Laura is dead. I never could get my mind around that student.
Beforehand, only the police, the Palmers and Bobby (when he's being
interviewed) know what's happened. The teacher, in the class, obviously gave
the game away staring at Laura's empty seat - but what's with the student?
How did she know? Who was she? It just didn't ring true. Powerful scene, to
be sure, but it didn't make sense to me.

Maybe I'm just being a little picky.

Anyway that's my 2 cents worth to start with. I'm really glad to be here.

Joel

1) I'm an avid reader of USA Today, and during the first season, they had
articles almost every day about Peaks. I actually didn't watch it til it was
in reruns though. I stumbled upon it one night - Laura's funeral ep - and
I've been hooked ever since.

2) Couldn't tell you. I've watched the first season probably a dozen -15
times, the first part of the second season about 7 or 8 times, and the rest
about 3 or 4 times.

3) Cooper and Audrey top my list - by far the most intriguing characters ever
created on TV IMHO.

4) Everything on TV since has sucked in comparison, although quite a few
shows are clearly influenced by it. The success of X-Files convinces me TP
was ahead of it's time. And everytime I see wind blowing thru trees, I get
freaked out. TP made me think, the one and only show ever to really do that,
and I've been obsessed ever since.

1. Many years ago, but mostly after the series. I saw a few eps while
it ran, but I was in a funk at the time (lost my wife) so wasn't really
paying attention. A friend turned me on, in the early 90s.

2. I've seen the whole set about 7 times now, and usually without stop
(I'm your basic insomniac!). That doesn't include FWWM, which I've only
seen once and don't own. I own the rest.

3. Fav is unquestionably Big Ed and his Gas Farm, with Albert a close
second. The scene with Big Ed telling about putting Nadine's eye out,
and Albert and Harry are trying to control each other, is one of the
funniest scenes I've ever seen. The first time I was in tears laughing,
like Albert.

4. The series hasn't changed my life one iota. I'm almost 40, and TV
has never changed my life in any way, not Star Trek, The X-Files, the
Fugitive, or any other favorite series. Just makes it more fun.

I "discovered" Twin Peaks when it first aired on ABC. I was only 12 at the
time, so I didn't understand a lot of it. I did go out and buy the
soundtrack. A few years later, I was listening to the soundtrack and decided
I had waited enough. I went out and bought the (Euro) Pilot video. I watched
it in complete silence until the very last moment. Then I started talking
non stop about it. I knew I had to get the whole series somehow. That
Christmas I received the series as a gift. I watched approx. 2-3 episodes a
night until it was over. I was in love. My life was spinning with Peaks. I
have been an addict ever since.

I have watched the series about 5 or 6 times in the past three years.

I cannot choose a favorite character. I have my own love for all of them.
The ones that mad me laugh the most are Coop, Gordon Cole and Nadine.

Twin Peaks has changed my life in so many ways. I know it sounds totally
corny, but it has. The way I look at people's actions, mannerisms, and
observations. The way I see the woods. The way I think more clearly about
things before I jump to conclusions. I have driven my family and friends
with talking about Twin Peaks all the time. Since I have been on the
internet, I have created three Twin Peaks websites and am active in a Twin
Peaks RPG to continue the story. So, I guess you could say it's definitely
affected me. :)

I discovered TWIN PEAKS during it's first run in the US. Utterly by
accident, mind you. I was sitting in a bar that had it running on the big
screen TV without sound. I began watching it and (after about half-an-hour)
had to run home -- all of a block -- and set the VCR to tape it.

I saw 90% of it during it's first run. Then again on cable. Then I finally
broke down and bought the videotapes. So, I've seen it a total of 3 times.
(The tapes have been on loan since I got done watching them -- almost a year
now.)

I have no favorite character. They all have so many perfect moments that it
would be impossible to single one out.

Change my life? Let me get back to you on that one. There's a dancing
dwarf at the door . . .

Hi!

I discovered Twin Peaks several years back when it was on in Denmark
for the first time. I have seen it twice, both times on Danish
television. My favourite character is Dale Cooper. I believe Twin
Peaks has made me see the madness in everyday life.

Answers from me. First, I discovered TP last summer. My then fiancee
at the time had borrowed the first three tapes from my brother. I was
utterly bored and just popped in the pilot. It was instant love.
Second, I've seen the series three times all the way through.
Favorite character: hmmm, that's a toughie. I'll guess Albert
Rosenfeld. When he came on screen, I was sitting on the edge of my
chair, waiting to hear what he'd say next. Fourth: I bought a Julee
