THIS WEEK AT THE TV BARN
from the TV Barn Web site
http://TVBarn.com
HERE'S WHAT'S WORKING FOR ME ...
1. Support for KKFI. The reaction to my Star Magazine story about the crisis at
community radio station KKFI has been gratifying, even from those who disagreed
with my conclusion: that KKFI's financial woes are a product not just of
revenues, but ratings and relevance as well. One letter-writer said I had made
the situation seem "hopeless." It's not hopeless — but the KKFI board is in
denial, and until that changes, nothing else will.
2. 10 years cancer-free for Gary Lezak. The KSHB weathercaster
http://blogs.kansascity.com/tvbarn/2009/02/gary-lezak-to-r.htmlis being honored
June 7 at Cancer Survivors Park.
3. "Dance Your Ass Off." I have no idea if this new weight-loss competition
series, which begins June 29 on Oxygen, is any good or not. But there hasn't
been a TV show with a title so wonderfully to the point since "Win Ben Stein's
Money."
... AND WHAT'S NOT
1. "The Unit" canceled. On behalf of all my liberal Democrat friends — who
tell me this is the only action drama they ever liked — shame on CBS for not
finding a spot on its schedule for another season.
2. Double the begging at KCPT. The new KCPT2 channel is innovative, local and
interesting — so why are the same canned pledge programs from the main KCPT
simulcasting there this week?
3. "The Real World Cancun." They're kidding, right?
WHAT'S ON TVB RIGHT NOW!
Suddenly, the newsletter is giving me fits again. HTML tags, which I have been
successful at keeping out of this all-text newsletter for years, are suddenly
sticking to the weekly mailings like ladybugs in the lampshade.
However, I am taking vacation time this week, and I'll be darned if I spend more
than the time to type this message thinking about it.
So instead I am just cutting and pasting in my recent articles with help from
Twitter. Not all of these were written by me but if I include them here they're
worth a click. If this works, I may just go back to typing up my newsletter
every week. How 1994!
