Thanks so much for the BBCA updates.? I try to look up their schedule
a few times a week.? I can't keep up with them.? I'm really hoping TW3 airs in
June.?
I know there's a showing of episode one on 12 June in one of the theatres with a
Q&A session with cast after wards. (John B will be there)? If they wait any
longer to air this people
may just give up on it.? Ok, a bit of an exaggeration there, still, this is
getting a bit ridiculous now.

Torchwood This Week

May 2, 2009 - Vol 3, No 18

The weekly guide to Torchwood transmissions.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho

Doctor Who schedule information is in This Week In Doctor Who
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho .

USA - BBC America has revised their schedule (again). Here is the new Torchwood
plan.

Tonight - Countrycide and Greeks Bearing Gifts (Ashes To Ashes Series 2 removed
from schedule)

May 9th - Captain Jack Harkness and End Of Days (end of primetime run, Primeval
returns May 16)

May 23rd - End Of Days and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (Torchwood replaces the 6PM
Doctor Who block outside of prime time)

May 30th - Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and To The Last Man

Torchwood is coming to the countries in the Scandinavian region of Europe.
Series 1 airs Mondays starting 8 June.

As for Torchwood Series 3 - no schedule yet. The assumption is still June or
July. 5 nights from either Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday (my money's on
Sunday to Thursday). BBC America, UKTV in Australia, and all other networks will
have to accomodate BBC One in the UK and how that network wants to air the
episodes.

Hi,

I'm a lurker here but a huge TW fan. I'm looking for one or two people to
share the double room I have booked from Thursday, June 4 till Sunday, June
7. I have fly out Sunday evening so I didn't book through to Monday. I
drink but don't smoke and would generally just be in the room to sleep.

Please write me offlist if you're interested.

Thanks,

Creatch

Torchwood star Eve Myles has announced that she is expecting her first child.

The 31-year-old Welsh actress decided to try for a baby after filming a new
five-part special of the Doctor Who spin-off, Children of the Earth, which airs
on BBC1 later this year.

"I've wanted to do this for such a long time, but I kept getting job after job
after job," said Eve, who plays former police officer Gwen Cooper in the cult
series.

"I thought, if I put this off any more I'm going to be 65. My partner and I
decided this year was going to be the year, and we were blessed that it happened
so quickly.

"It's the best thing that ever happened to me – we're over the moon."

Eve, who is three and a half months' pregnant, joked about the fact that her
character Gwen gave birth in series two – to an alien.

"We went for a scan and my mum was there," she recalled. "And my mum went: `No,
it's not a Nostrovite! It's a real Welsh human!' But of course it crosses my
mind – I hope it's not an alien!"

Eve added that motherhood will not make her quit her role in Torchwood.

"I hope we get a new series," she said. "I'd really like to play Gwen as a
mother. It's not like I have to really save the world – I just have to sit in
make-up!"

The weekly guide to Torchwood transmissions.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho

Doctor Who schedule information is in This Week In Doctor Who
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho .

Hints to the Torchwood Series 3 schedule are coming out.

First, the Watch channel in the UK (airs Torchwood repeats) claims they are
airing repeats at 10PM from 15 to 19 June, immediately after new episodes air on
BBC One. This implies that the new Torchwood episodes air Monday to Friday, 15
to 19 June, 9PM BST, BBC One. That said, BBC One is not going to make an
announcement until much closer to the air date and they could always change
their mind.

Second, UKTV in Australia and BBC America in the USA are now advertising that
the new Torchwood episodes will air in July. If this is the case, and BBC One
airs the new episodes in June, then the hoped for simulcast between various
countries on the UK premiere date will not happen.

y-tonights-the-night>John
Barrowman, spangles, big dance numbers - and me
I hate musicals. How would I cope with an evening
in a BBC studio where John Barrowman was taping his Saturday show?

Tonight's the Night: John Barrowman
[]

John Barrowman: Tigger in a Bacofoil suit. Photograph: BBC/Dan Hallman

John Barrowman has his own band of groupies, I
have learned. They queue outside BBC Television
Centre from early morning, hoping to bag the best
seats in the studio for the recording of his
latest Saturday night entertainment show,
Tonight's The Night. He calls them Johnettes, and
they sit on the front row staring up at him like
devoted puppies. Every time he flashes a winning
smile, the Johnettes make squeaky noises of
devotion. They are mainly women of a certain age, ie mine.

I, on the other hand, have been hidden away in a
corner reserved for twisted cynics. I have
informed the BBC publicist in no uncertain terms
that enthusiasm for West End musicals is limited
at best, likewise big sparkly dance numbers or
pretty much anything that comes under the heading
of Cheesy Saturday Night Light Entertainment. I
think I may have had a traumatic Noel's House Party experience as a child.

John Barrowman, I am informed, is determined to convert me. Fool.

The show, in case you have missed the series thus
far, is about making musical dreams come true.
It's like Jim'll Fix It with sequins - an hour of
audience surprises, inspiring stories, big
song-and-dance numbers and the odd celeb.
Barrowman bounces through all of this like Tigger
in a Bacofoil suit, complaining to the audience
that his trousers are too tight. The front row is in raptures.

During a technical bit where the cameras stop
rolling, Barrowman drags his vocal coach up to
sing a duet from Phantom of The Opera. On an
ordinary day, this would have had me hacking at
my wrists with a biro, but by this point I am entirely transfixed.

The turning point is a young man named Lewis
Laking, from Hartlepool. One moment I am
wondering what the appeal of shows like this
really is, and whether years of humiliation-based
reality TV had transformed me into some bitter,
fun-hating hag, and then Lewis appears to tell us
a remarkable story about his best friend Kyle,
and his dream to sing on stage with Russell Watson. I hate Russell Watson.

I won't spoil the story as I couldn't possibly do
it justice, but suffice to say that the duet
Lewis performs with Russell made me blub like a
girl. If you only ever watch 10 minutes of this
series, watch this on Saturday night on BBC1.

And that's where I ultimately found the appeal of
this show - not specifically in clapping like a
performing seal with mascara running down my face
(for this is never a good look), but in the
uplifting, simple pleasure of a show that harks
back to a time before telly got mean and cynical
and decided that ordinary people can only be
entertaining when they are making total arses of
themselves. I watch Saturday night TV in a state
of perpetual clenching these days.

As for John Barrowman himself, I've never been
entirely sure what to make of him - at times he
reminds me of the over-excitable boy next door
who won't bloody go away, regardless of how many
times you punch him. Yet somehow he makes the
"dreams come true" format far more palatable that
Noel Edmonds or Cilla Black ever did, simply by
being entirely in his element and clearly having
the time of his life. In places the show feels a
bit of a mess, but it was also kind of fun - what can I say?

And finally, confession time: when Barrowman came
to find me afterwards to ask if I was converted
to his particular brand of camptastic sparkle, I
may have made an odd squeaky noise not unlike
that of a Johnette. He is still a Ken doll with
jazz hands, but if he's asking, I'm dancing.

• Tonight's the Night screens at 6.50pm on BBC1 on Saturday

Becky waltzes on to BBC for a Saturday night starring role
Thursday, May 14, 2009, 08:45

A RADIO presenter who had both breasts removed to
avoid cancer has fulfilled a life-long dream of
performing on stage with a star from Strictly Come Dancing.

Becky Measures waltzed the night away with top
professional James Jordan on BBC1 show Tonight's the Night.

The 27-year-old, who had a preventative double
mastectomy three years ago, was picked from
thousands for the Saturday night series.

Hosted by Torchwood actor and musical star John
Barrowman, it gives people a once-in-a-lifetime
chance to perform on stage with their idols.

Becky's appearance follows that of former Derby
schoolgirl Paige Phillips, who took to the stage
with ex-Mis-Teeq member Alesha Dixon.

Becky, a breakfast show presenter on Peak FM,
said she had no idea about the surprise until
Barrowman visited her at work pretending to be a Latin dance champion.

She said: "Everyone at the station was in on it.
They had installed hidden cameras in the studio
and set up this interview with a dance champion.

"John was in a disguise but when this man walked
in wearing a wig and a lycra outfit covered in
sequins I knew something was going on.

"Saying that, it was still a complete shock when
he took off his disguise and told me I would be
dancing with James Jordan from Strictly Come Dancing."

Becky was nominated for the show by her mother,
Wendy Watson, 53, of Over Haddon, near Bakewell.

With Becky's help, Wendy runs the National
Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, which was set
up to help and support women with the condition.

Nine out of 12 women in their family have battled
the disease and more than four years ago Becky
discovered she carried a defective gene, giving
her a 90% risk of developing breast cancer.

It was then she decided to have a preventative
double mastectomy, an experience she spoke
publicly about to raise awareness of the group's helpline.

Becky added: "I don't really deserve such an
amazing surprise, as it would have been wrong for
me to not use my experiences to help other women
and raise awareness of the helpline.

"It was a dream come true though. I literally had
a couple of hours to learn the waltz with James
before we filmed the show, so I am hoping it looks ok."

Wendy said she nominated her daughter because of
what she had been through. She added: "I was part
of the live audience watching her dance and it
was spellbinding to see the change from the
practices to the final performance."

John Barrowman described the radio presenter as an inspiration.

He said: "Giving her this dream-come-true
opportunity was the least I could do and her
performance was stunningly beautiful."

Viewers can tune in to see Becky's big moment on Saturday, May 23.

the Outer Reaches of Literature with Author Mel Keegan
By Mark Coker
Special Coorespondent, Smashwords.com
keegan_article.jpg

We live in a world where everything and everyone
demands a label. Labels define what we read, eat,
believe and even how we define our own identity.

Yet labels by definition are limiting. In today's
exclusive interview with popular Australian
author Mel Keegan, we'll explore what happens
when authors and readers alike find themselves
marginalized by the limits of labels.

Keegan is an award-winning Australian author who
in the last 20 years has written 26 commercially
published sci-fi, fantasy and action/adventure
books with over 75,000 copies in print. If these
categories are your kind of thing, you'd probably enjoy Keegan's work.

But what if I told you most Keegan books are
categorized as gay lit? Would you read the books?
Or would you click away from this interview right now? If so, why?

Mel Keegan - a pen name - is one of the more
prolific and outspoken gay lit authors on the
scene today. In this interview, Keegan examines
the past, present and future of gay lit, and
shares why he (or she?) believes ebooks will
democratize literature and enable the world's
authors and readers to connect in ways that were
previously impossible in the traditional print world.

Keegan also comments on the recent #Amazonfail
fiasco, in which thousands of gay-related books
were accidentally misclassified and removed from
some Amazon listings (the problem was later corrected).

After reading what Keegan has to say, you might
never view literary labels the same way again.

***EXCERPT***

[Mark Coker] - Is "gay" really a niche?

[Mel Keegan] - This is a huge question which
trails tendrils into issues about cultural values
and what I call "literary apartheid." It's
difficult to tackle this subject briefly (someone
could get a book out of it), but let me give it a shot.

In terms of literature, the "gay" niche is more
of an umbrella category, a catch-all … even
"quarantine zone!" You have gay romance, gay
thrillers, gay science fiction, gay mysteries,
but it all reduces to the common denominator:
gay. All niches are gathered up into the Master Niche -- the umbrella category.

Publishers, bookstores and marketers in the
States, Canada, Australia and a few parts of the
UK, are still very concerned about giving offence
to clients, so "anything gay" tends to be
segregated. Some countries still have strict
regulations about content. Scotland, for
instance, has an actual law which states (in so
many words) that publications "promoting" the
GLBT lifestyle cannot be sold at venues where
minors may be present. This must make life
interesting for the bosses of news agencies and
magazine stores, in these days when Doctor Who
and Torchwood are massively popular, and the
"omnisexual" Captain Jack Harkness (portrayed by
out gay actor John Barrowman) has become a cult
icon for youth, as well as the GLBT community.
Torchwood and Cap'n Jack feature in piles of
regular media magazines, and according to the
strictest letter of Scottish law, it's not legal
to display them in shops where people under 18
can walk in! Why? The character is openly bi, and
the actor is out, which is extremely gay-friendly.

So, "anything gay" is a convenient catch all
which is actually being over-used in a lot of
cases. It's very true that some elderly customers
are likely to be influenced by the rather outworn
prejudices of former decades, and bookstore
managers segregate gay titles with the object of
protecting their sensibilities. It's equally true
that where you have kids under, say, 14 wandering
at whim, you need to think about protecting them
too -- though not from the concept of "gayness"
as such. Kids who're growing up gay know their
own hearts, long before that age! However, some
gay magazines can have cover material that leaves
little to the imagination -- which is no more
appropriate for kids to be seeing than the
corresponding covers on straight magazines.

However, the inequity of the situation soon tends
to make itself felt in the segregation. A store
can effectively hide gay titles -- or refuse to
stock them at all -- while straight magazines
which push the envelope of "decency" to the
absolute limit (and beyond) are too often left on
display. Very few folks in the GLBT community
would utter a protest when kids and the elderly
are being protected … but most would he much
happier if the same young and old patrons were
equally protected from all objectionable
materials, regardless of orientation. The issue
isn't about censorship; it's actually about
double standards! "Objectionable" is (or should
be) a word without gender associations.

Whether "anything gay without a hint of anything
objectionable" on the cover should be segregated
is a very different question, in which religion,
cultural bias, regional taboos, and even politics
play a part. Everyone seems to hold an opinion,
and the topic remains an emotionally-charged
morass. Suffice to say, public opinion -- even in
places otherwise as liberal as Scotland! -- is so
widely divided, we're a long way from an answer.
At the moment, the book trades (publishers right
through to retailers) can only hold to something
approximating the Hippocratic oath: "When in
doubt, do no harm…" In other words, make sure
vulnerable customers are protected.

So, as a niche, "gay" is more of an umbrella,
under which you find a host of sub-niches, which
get ever more complex: gay historical romantic thriller!

Rip roaring!
John Barrowman suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction

GLASGOW-BORN entertainer John Barrowman was left red-faced when his
trousers split on stage in front of his home crowd - to reveal his white pants.

The cheeky performer was dancing to Don't Blame It On The Boogie at
his packed Royal Concert Hall show last night when an energetic dance
move led to the embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

The singer and star of Doctor Who and Torchwood told the amused
audience - which included his parents and partner - "Mum, thank God
you made me put on clean underpants!"

John giggled: "I don't think I have any more trousers with me -
they're all packed on the bus!"

The band had to take over the entertainment while stage staff hunted
for a replacement during last night's concert - and thankfully found
a new pair.

John, 42, who was born in Glasgow and lived in Mount Vernon as a
child before moving to America, had earlier got his mum Marion, 73,
up on stage to join him in the song Amazing Grace.

Barrowman used to dance and sing on the counter of the record shop
where she worked in Shettleston in the East End before the family
headed for Illinois when he was eight.

John - who has a civil partnership with partner Scott - later found
fame starring in Broadway musicals before launching a TV career.

But he's never forgotten his Scottish roots.

At the end of the concert the performer was in tears as he told the
screaming crowd: "I absolutely love being back in Glasgow. As long as
you'll have me I'll keep coming back."

Thanks for sharing this. It was fun to read. If you didnΉt know already
Barrowman is also on Any Dream Will Do on BBC America. HeΉs a judge. ItΉs

Torchwood This Week
May 16, 2009 - Vol 3, No 20
The weekly guide to Torchwood transmissions.
by Benjamin F. Elliott
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/torchwood
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho

Doctor Who schedule information is in This Week In Doctor Who
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho .

As The Torchwood Timetable Turns.

Since our last get together:
1) Watch http://www.uktv.co.uk pulled the paragraph from their June highlights
that referred to new episodes of Torchwood on BBC One the week of 15 June. No
evidence remains now except our memories.
2) BBC America http://www.bbcamerica.com has continued to hype the July premiere
of the new Torchwood episodes in the USA. People are claiming there is a press
release by BBC America stating they are airing the episodes the same days as BBC
One (in July). I have not seen this release.
3) There is apparently a publicity picture on the BBC indicating a Torchwood
airdate in Week 25 (20 to 26 June). Haven't seen this picture yet.
4) The only folks who can settle this and give a firm airdate are the people at
BBC One http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone . They're not talking. If they follow their
usual scheduling practices we will remain in the dark until roughly 2 weeks
before the UK premiere. And all the speculation, heartache, and frantic messages
we're sending around will mean - nothing.

I'm tired of playing the "guess the airdate" game. I don't know. None of us
know.

Starting June 21st, NBC is running the 13-episode show of Merlin, which I
believe this is the one Eve Myles is in. I'm surprised it's on NBC and not BBC
America.

Eve Myles is in the first episode.

Buying shows like this is part of NBC's "strategy" for year-round original
programming, similar to Crusoe last year.

It will be nice to see the show in HD :)

And other countries who I haven't seen identified yet.

Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.

I have to agree with that. I only watched the season finale to see if he
got off the island. However, Merlin is actually BBC made...while Crusoe was
not!! Better quality; but I'm at least thankful that my *extended bosses at
NBC aren't going to fry my brain with all reality television (except for
that whole I'm a celebrity...get me out of here)

* I work at an affliate station.

I believe this is from last year, not the new one with James whats-his-face. It
apparently got good reviews. It's 13 episodes. Hard to spot Eve, she's covered
with crone make-up.

It is the show that aired on BBC last year, and I've seen the episode. It's
not at all hard to spot Eve :)

Hi, just wondering if anyone is going to the preview on June 12th? I am a
*happy* bunny, just having got hold of a last-minute ticket so my birthday is
now complete! I am so excited, the wait for series 3 just seems to have been
forever. Of course, spoilers and all that so won't post a review but would like
to know how many other Torchies from the group will be there, maybe say hi.
Best,
Carole

BBC America announced plans for BBC America HD, their new high definition feed
for the station. BBC America HD and the third series of Torchwood both launch on
Monday July 20. It will be a big sci-fi week for BBC America. As for Torchwood,
the special "Inside The Hub" airs Monday at 8PM, 11PM, and 1AM Eastern. New
episodes premiere at 9PM, Midnight, and 2AM Eastern Monday to Friday that week.
The first 4 episodes repeat in the 8PM, 11PM, and 1AM slots just before the new
episodes.

http://www.spacecast.com/Blogs/Post.aspx?PostID=604
SPACE Channel confirmed their recent Doctor Who and Torchwood acquisitions this
week. Torchwood Series 3 (Children Of Earth) premieres in July (the release does
not say if it will strip across a week or air weekly). It also confirms that
SPACE currently has rights to Series 1 and 2 of Torchwood.

BBC Radio 4 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4 has scheduled the 3 Torchwood plays. The
plays will air in the Afternoon Play slot from Wednesday 1 July to Friday 3 July
on Radio 4 (2:15PM UK Time, 3:15PM Central Europe Time on Long Wave). They are
45 minutes each. They are set between Lost Souls (the Radio 4 play last
September) and Series 3 (Children Of Earth). Radio 4 can be listened to live
around the world. The episodes will also be available on Radio 4's Listen Again
programming for 7 days after each installment airs.

BBC Entertainment Scandinavia http://scandinavia.bbcentertainment.com premieres
Torchwood this Monday 8 June. In at least some of the Scandinavian countries,
this will be their introduction to Torchwood.

SciFi Netherlands http://www.scifi-tv.nl premieres Torchwood Series 2 this
Wednesday 10 June. 1 episode a week - airing 3 times in various slots.

BBC Entertainment Poland http://poland.bbcentertainment.com started Series 2 of
Torchwood last week. We did not know this at the time due to the lack of a
schedule on the site.

BBC HD Australia http://australia.bbchd.com begins repeating Torchwood Series 1
this Sunday at 7:30PM, with each episode airing a large number of times in a 2
week period. If you have this channel, it is a good chance to see the episodes
in full HD picture quality.

TV2 Finland http://www.yle.fi/tv2 begins a late night repeat run of Torchwood
Series 1 and 2 this Sunday 7 June. The start time varies week to week - this
week it will be 12:01AM.

Doctor Who schedule information is in This Week In Doctor Who
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho .

Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.

I realize that message volume in this list will get out of control when
"Children of Earth" airs late next month. I have more to say later on that
later in this post. However, for those who follow such things, three weeks from
now are more new Torchwood episodes also.

On BBC Radio 4 are three new Torchwood radio dramas that not only feature the
Torchwood cast but also apparently bridge the gap between the last radio program
months back "Lost Souls" but lead to next month's miniseries. These radio
dramas will air over three days from July 1 to July 3 in the afternoon in the
UK.

They are:

Asylum
Golden Age
The Dead Line

I have not been able to find any information as to what the plots are for these
radio dramas, except for me, Torchwood is Torchwood. You can listen to these
radio dramas and imagine Rhys and the gang doing battle against various alien
invasions of Cardiff, a city of immense strategic military importance or so I've
heard.

Three Torchwoods in three days. That is amazing and it so close away.

For those familiar with the wacky antics of program schedulers at BBC America
who cut episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood to make room for multitudes of
commercials, the original episodes bore almost no resemblance sometimes to what
was shown on BBC America.

For those not aware with all the promo commercials on BBC America for Children
of Earth, this miniseries is five nights of five hours each. If BBC America
airs those episodes in an hour time slot, that means 17 minutes must be cut from
each episode to fit inside the time slot.

However, there is good news about that on another note. I received the double
issue TV Guide yesterday and saw the listing for BBC America's airing of "The
Next Doctor" on Saturday night, June 27th, which for those with math anxiety, is
17 days away. The first ever airing on BBC America of "The Next Doctor" is
getting a 90 minute time slot, so any material edited out will very likely be
minimal or existential. As that Doctor Who Christmas special ran one hour, that
leaves plenty of time for commercials with minimal loss to the finished product.

That could also mean that BBC America has gotten enough flack from purists about
their botched editing jobs that they have woken up to smell the coffee and may
very likely extend the time slots each night from July 20th to July 24th for
airings of each of the five episodes of Children of Earth.

While there has not been announcement that I have heard for the uncut showings
on BBC One that are supposed to precede BBC America, the only other thing BBC
America has going for it that programs are close captioned for those having
trouble with low-volume dialogue and hard to understand Welsh or British
accents.

Whatever those radio shows are about, remember that they are Torchwood and
people here should be encouraged to listen to them and comment here without
spoiling it for people who are not able to listen to them in other parts of the
world.

Thanks,

Thanks for the detailed report Michele. I'm glad you had a great time as I would
say I only had a so/so time. I was pretty disgusted by the way we were treated
as fans. The bottom line is that the people that put this on should have had
insurance, and they didn't. Hell, I guess hindsight is 20/20 now but it would
have saved them all a lot of time and travel had they been able to give most of
us, some of our money back because what we got was not what we had been
promised.
It was great to meet Gareth, even though I had a feeling he was pretty liquored
up the entire weekend (not that I blame him). I found it pretty hypocritical of
him not wanting to have a picture of himself taken while he was smoking. I mean,
you smoke, big deal. I think most of us knew that.
There were 2 guests there that prior to this I had never heard of before, but
they were very cordial and seemed happy to be there. Tom was a real trooper for
even showing up. I'm sure this was a weekend he won't soon forget.
I have to wonder about what the people who hadn't ever seen Gareth "sing" before
was thinking when he performed. Quite a vast difference in the vocal stylings of
Mr Barrowman and Mr Lloyd. The song that Gareth played on the piano, although
somewhat disturbing, showed that there is talent there, underneath the
screaming.
I still would love to meet John but not via a convention with this group of
organizers again. His star is now somewhat tarnished in my book because of this,
and I know it's no fault of his own, but it still affects the way I see him now.
I just know that I won't be spending great deals of money to try and see him
anymore.
Anyway, just my two cents about the weekend.
Angela

Ahh, you did mean to say 5 episodes of 1 hour each, right? Surely this is not 25
hours (5 nights of 5 hours each) !

Angela, while I was not at Torchsong, please don't let this tarnish John. From
everything I've read the organizers were the ones who treated the attendees
poorly. John, I'm sure, felt awful about not being there and this was one way
to him to be a semi-part of this. No, it wasn't what anyone really paid for
and/or expected.

Holzheimers are the ones John signed pics for at SDCC and he may be doing the
same this again this year. Bascially, don't let the horrible disorganized, rude
organizers put a damper on your opinion of John. I don't blame you for not
wanting to spend a lot of money to see him though. I'm in the States and just
purchasing stuff from UK and such does get expensive. :-)

I see what you're referring to. I hate the fact BBCA does all those damn
commercials. To be honest, that's why I not only purchase Region 1 DVD's but
also Region 2. It's a chance to see what was cut from our versions. I've
written to BBCA about airing uncut versions but I'll be writing to them again
about this.

My last post I meant to state that each of the five episodes of "Children of
Earth" are one hour each making the miniseries run for roughly five hours or 3
hours and 25 minutes over five nights of Torchwood by BBC America standards of
editing to make a program fit their timeslot.

Sorry for any confusion. The miniseries is not 25 hours long.

(Sorry about the color - I can't get it to change to black.)

Asylum by Anita Sullivan
The story of a teen runaway called Freda who is brought to the attention of
Torchwood by PC Andy. As Gwen, Jack and Ianto investigate where this troubled
girl has come from, Andy finds himself drawn closer than ever before into the
world of Torchwood.

Golden Age by James Goss
Torchwood go to India to investigate the disappearance of hundreds of people.
The trail leads them to an old colonial club which seems strangely stuck in the
past as does its young and beautiful owner, the Duchess.

The Dead Line by Phil Ford
A series of mysterious phone calls lead Jack into danger, and result in 'a very
emotional moment for Ianto'.

These three new Torchwood radio plays will each have an approximate running time
of forty five minutes and they will all air on BBC Radio 4. The episodes will be
broadcast before Torchwood series three's transmission in the Summer and they
will star; John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and
Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones

What BBCA does has nothing to do with the DVDs. For Torchwood, the R1
and R2 DVDs have been the identical, uncut versions of the episodes.
There is really no reason to buy both.

Even if BBCA does not cut for time, they will still bleep any language
they deem unacceptable, and any strong sexual moments. So even if
they choose to air the show in a 75 or 90 minute time slot, it doesn't
mean you'll be getting the same version as the UK. It will be better
than cutting 15-17 minutes, of course, but it still won't be complete.

I'm really sorry HDNet lost Torchwood. :( It was the only way to see
uncut, complete versions in the US on TV. And in hidef to boot.
