Well, if this episode is filmed according to the spoilers, MGM can
wave goodbye to my money. I didn't buy any DVDs from the second half
of S7 because I was totally sick of seeing Sam on my screen because
of the pathetic way that she was written and the whole Jack/Sam
farce. If Threads *does* show these two characters "developing" this
selfish, inappropriate and whooly unconvincing "relationship" as the
spoilers suggest, then the promising start to S8 has just been
flushed down the toilet.
I was *so* enjoying S8 because we were seeing the team back again -
scenes with the four of them interacting as friends and colleagues,
scenes where it was obvious that they each cared for each other as
*colleagues*, not where two of them considered each other as fuck-
buddies.
As a 40 year old woman in a male oriented career world, I can't
express how furious and disgusted I am that the writers (and the
fact that they're all male has *such* an impact) don't have the
imagination or perception to be able to show a man and a woman who
work together as merely friends. Having Sam making goo-goo eyes at
Jack, and, even worse, having her do it when she's in what I
*thought* was a mature, positive relationship with Pete truly
sickens me. Do the writers have problems with women, because they
sure seem to!?
MGM and the little boys at Bridge will have lost a viewer if this
happens - I won't be watching a S9 (if it happens), I won't watch
any movie - TV or otherwise, I won't be watching Atlantis and I
certainly won't be buying any more DVDs from the Stargate universe
<shrug> I may only be one, but having read the posts on various
lists and forums the last few days, I won't be the only one.
I didn't realise that I felt that strongly about the subject until I
wrote this message! I'm off to watch some episodes from S1-3 to calm
down...
