Jana announced a bit of news today on Facebook about her new series, The Demon Trappers, from St Martin Press.  The first book will be released September 2010.  AND...they've already signed deals for publication of both German and UK editions!  Our Jana is going international!

I'm sure we'll be hearing more about the Demon Trappers series at TimeGate next May, and probably a preview of it in her reading.

Congratulations, Jana!

Just announced:

Its already known that "The Waters of Mars" will be airing on BBC America on December 19th.  But now the network has announced that it will be broadcasting "The End of Time" Part One on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26 at 9:00 p.m..  That's just ONE DAY after it airs on BBC1.  They've not yet announced the air date for Part Two, but that's got to be because BBC1 hasn't announced its own air date for the (reportedly) 75-minute finale.  I think we can assume a similar arrangement for that final episode.  Its almost certain that Part Two will air on BBC1 on New Years Day, so we can assume a Saturday, Jan 2 American broadcast date.

Let's hope this is the pattern that will continue when Season Five hits the airwaves!

And after that..."Waters of Mars" and both parts of "End of Time" will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in America on February 2.  The same day, a 5-disk boxset with all of the 2009 specials plus a 16-page book with foreword by David Tennant will be released.

Exciting!

~Alan

The Atlanta Gallifreyans, Atlanta, GA's Doctor Who/SJA/Torchwood club, has its November meeting this coming Saturday, the 21st. As usual, we are meeting at the Doraville Civic Center, very near the intersection of I-285 and Buford Highway. For directions, check the website:
http://www.atlantagallifreyans.org

If you can, please bring food and drink to share. :)

Here's the schedule:

4:30 PM Arrival and set-up.

5 PM Announcements. To discuss: HurricaneWho and ChicagoTardis.

5:30 PM The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith

6:30 PM Break

6:45 New!Who: the Tenth Doctor: The Waters of Mars

7:45 PM Break

8 PM Classic Who: the Third Doctor: Frontier In Space episodes 4-6

9:30 PM Break

9:45 PM Torchwood: CoE: Day Four

10:45 PM End of meeting and clean-up.

Please note that due to the length of both the SJA two-parter and the New Who special, the Lost episode and the Classic cliffhanger have been left off the schedule for this month only. Next month, we should be able to fit them back in, esp. if we don't have the last Tenth Doctor two-parter to show.

We have factored in some extra breaks, as the New Who stories have generated a lot of discussion on the interwebs.

For next month, we will also start showing SJA Season Two.

Once we finish with CoE in Dec., starting in Jan., we will start showing S2 of TW. Also in Jan., we should hopefully have the two-parter of the Tenth Doctor's last serial.

And we are continuing to show the Third Doctor's serials in our Classic Who time slot.

Moorcock on Doctor Who

Next Year

Published: 11/16/2009 02:03am

Famed fantasy and science fiction author Michael Moorcock announced that he will be writing a Doctor Who novel on his Website.  It will be a new novel, not an adaptation, and is expected to appear by the holiday season of 2010.

Sounds like it’s not quite inked yet; Moorcock says he expects to be “signing shortly.”

Due to a massive USPS screw-up, the Atlanta BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab) Will Call didn't receive their Raven Moon and Yule testers in time for last Sunday's Will Call. So, they're holding a second Raven Moon Will Call!

The Georgia Will Call will be at Whole Foods Market, aka Harry's Farmer's Market, in Roswell, GA. Will Call is taking place on Sunday, November 15th from 5 to 8pm, inside Salud the cooking school area (which is inside the store).

Whole Foods Market is located at 1180 Upper Hembree Road, Roswell, GA, 30076. They will be holding an auction to benefit flood damaged farms in GA. Everyone who donates will receive an imp of Daya.

They will have all of the current Limited Edition scents available, along with their extensive selection of General Catalog scents and all of the Retail-only Salon series as well.

Whole Foods accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express, and cash. They will not be able to accept any preorders.

Where/When

Georgia Will Call at
Whole Foods Market aka Harry's Farmer's Market
1180 Upper Hembree Road
Roswell, GA 30076
Sunday, November 15th, 5 to 8 pm

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is a perfume oil etailer.

Btw, for those of you who don't know what Will Call is, since BPAL is an on-line retailer of perfume oils, the Will Call events allow folks to skin test the oils in person and even buy bottles. Plus, there's the added value of socializing with cool people and shopping at Whole Foods, all in one evening. :)

Over a decade ago, people on the interwebs, many of whom I didn't know anything of, helped me after an apt. fire that left me with very little. I don't know now who those people were, but I can pay it forward, by helping others, and getting the news out.

Paying it forward is a great concept. So here's two guys that you can help out, if you like. Both of them stand to lose their houses and their land, and so folks on the 'Net have banded together to help them out.

Dave of the LiveJournal community save_dave I don't know from Adam, but Tom Smith (filkertom on LJ) does, and that's good enough for me. This community is full of auctions to help out and one can also donate directly.

http://community.livejournal.com/save_dave/profile

Then there's Ik the Troll, that those of you who attend Dragoncon might have seen--well, he's kind of difficult to miss. :) This website gives a lot of info:

http://www.savethetroll.moonfruit.com/#/about-us/4535881368

and there's been a number of posts in the dragoncon community on LiveJournal to promote helping the Troll.

Both of these guys are the wonderful sort of person who helps others, so now it's our turn to help them. Thanks for anything that you can do.  And please pass it on.

Take care,

Those of you who attended this year's con got the chance to meet Kelly Yates, our comic book artist guest.  He's now got great news for iPhone and iTouch users concerning his recently lauched series, Amber Atoms:

"
I'm excited to announce that starting today, you will be able to download Amber Atoms to your preferred handheld mobile device from the iTunes store. What's really cool is you can download the first issue for FREE through the Comixology app. After that it's only 99˘ an issue. So get your digital copy and enjoy the adventure!"

Just download the Comixology app from iTunes and you can access a huge world of comic books whenever you want.  Comixology has a number of different apps, though, so make sure you get the right one.

Thanks, y'all!  Enjoy!

'Stargate Universe' Premieres Strong

Beats 'Dollhouse' (I want both of these shows to succeed)

Published: 10/05/2009 01:19am

Syfy’s new Stargate Universe series premiered strong on Friday, with its 2.3 million viewers the best numbers for a Stargate series in four years, since season 2 of Stargate Atlantis.  The 1.12 million viewers between 18 and 49 was the best for a Friday premiere since Battlestar Galactica’s January 2005 airing.

The first showing was head to head against Dollhouse, which at 2.1 million viewers, came in at about 10% less than Stargate Universe.  This also represented a substantial decline for Dollhouse from its already weak viewership (see “Dollhouse Premieres Weak”).

Stargate comics are produced under license by Dynamite Entertainment (see “Dynamite Gets Stargate”), which is releasing a prequel comic for the new SGU series.

I really enjoyed it too.  For me, the thing all along that has had me really excited about this show, in addition to the promise of a new direction for Stargate, a new tone, was the cast.  I thought that they'd assembled a really strong cast.  And to me that paid off bigtime.  There literally was not a character I disliked, partly due to the writing, but also to do with how well the characters were cast.  I think the writers have done a great job in planting seeds for future development of plot and character and I'm really looking forward to seeing where this is all going.

And we had a great time at Jack's tonight.  Thanks Jack for playing host for us!

I hope that they have the budget to keep the explosive dynamics going - the plots and the character development.

Sorry I missed the premiere party at Jack's.  It was a bummer to watch by myself, but I had to work late.

Hi everyone!  Here's a reminder that TimeGate is hosting an event for the premiere of Stargate Universe this Friday night!  We'll kick things off at 7:30 and the show airs on SyFy at 9:00.

We were planning to hold this event at the TimeGate hotel, but they do not get SyFy.  They tried to add it to their cable package, but the cost was prohibitive.  So we're forced to relocate the event.  It'll now be hosted by Jack and Julie Moore in Conyers.  I apologize for having to move the location, but it was either that or cancel the event.

Jack's house is:
1018 Duke Dr
Conyers, Ga 30013

Phone is 678-369-4455

Hope most of you can still make it out to see SGU with us.  Its going to be an awesome show!

Hi everyone!

You know, the next TimeGate is a long way away.  May 2010.  That's like eight months away.  That's WAY TOO LONG!  We just can't wait that long to have another TimeGate!!

So to ease our impatience, we're hosting a special event to celebrate the debut of STARGATE UNIVERSE!  SGU is the new series in the Stargate franchise and makes its debut on Friday, October 2 at 9:00 p.m.  The series features an incredible cast that includes Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming Na, David Blue, Alaina Huffington and others.

Our event will start at 7:30 p.m.  We'll have food and beverage available.  We'll be holding this event in our host hotel (the gorgeous Holiday Inn Select - Perimeter) in Suite 542 (the large room that served as our consuite in 2008).  Come on over, hang out, meet new friends or greet old friends, and at 9:00 we'll all watch the series premiere together.

There's NO FEE for this event.  However, we will have a tip jar out and we would appreciate a donation of a few bucks to help cover the cost of the room and the food.  I mean, c'mon....$2-3 for a night of good food, good drink, good friends and GREAT SCI-FI!

HOLIDAY INN SELECT - PERIMETER
4386 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road
Atlanta, GA 30341

You can get all the details (including driving and MARTA directions) at our website:  http://www.timegatecon.org/

You can also access the event listing on Facebook and RSVP there.

We hope that you'll join us for this exciting event.

PS:  We plan to host a similar event next year to honour the debut of Matt Smith in Season Five of DOCTOR WHO.  More details on that later.
