minutes)
Sunday 18 January:
BBC Entertainment South Africa 7PM and Midnight CAT - The Runaway
Bride
Sunday 25 January:
ABC Australia 7:30PM - The Next Doctor (60 minutes)
Congratulations to The Next Doctor. The overnight ratings for the
Christmas Day broadcast averaged 11.7 million viewers. #2 show of the
day behind Wallace & Gromit, pending timeshift results (one of the
Eastenders episodes was right behind Who). #2 highest rated episode
since the relaunch (beaten only by last year's Christmas episode
Voyage Of The Damned). Top 10 TV show of the year so far. The numbers
will adjust a bit once time shifted viewing is counted in around 2
weeks.
There is a full length podcast commentary for The Next Doctor. It is
already on iTunes like the Series 4 commentaries, will air on BBC
Radio 7 on Sunday 28 December at 6PM and Midnight GMT (available for
a week thereafter), and is an extra audio track on this Friday's
repeat of the episode on BBC Three.
As for Doctor Who At The Proms, the concert recorded in July, it is
now scheduled to premiere at the same day and time on BBC One and BBC
HD - Thursday New Years Day 2009 at 1:50PM GMT. There will be repeats
on BBC HD. The broadcast version is 60 minutes. There may be an
extended version on the BBC Red Button service after the initial
broadcast.
BBC One gets a new Doctor Who Confidential special - The Ten Doctors -
Saturday 3 January at 5:35PM. All the Doctors in just over half an
hour.
ABC Australia will get The Next Doctor on Sunday 25 January at
7:30PM, just one month after the UK premiere. This is being counted
as fast-tracking. So far no other networks are known to be fast
tracking the episode. The closer we get to a simultaneous worldwide
experience, the better, so congratulations Austrailia!
There was a live Doctor Who: Podshock on December 7 looking back at
Series 4. It included contributors from a number of podcasts. Next
live Podshock on the 28th at 1PM EST/10AM PST/6PM GMT, with regular
episodes also going out.
KBS2 South Korea http://www.kbs.co.kr premieres Doctor Who Series 4
this Sunday at 11:35PM. Expect 2 episodes most weeks, but not this
week, as Voyage Of The Damned is rather long. See their Doctor Who
page http://www.kbs.co.kr/2tv/enter/doctorwho/index.html . As in
previous series, the main audio track is in Korean and there is an
English track available as a secondary audio. Based on what I've been
told in the past, this is Prime time for TV watching in South Korea.
Thanks to our Korean understanding readers for helping decipher the
page.
There will be major changes to This Week In Doctor Who starting with
the January 3, 2009 edition. I am still considering various tweaks,
but here is the tentative plan to make everything easier to use in
2009. I am trying a bit of branding and breaking down information to
simplify efforts to find what you want. Should be particularly useful
if you like to clip a bit to forward somewhere else (which does
happen). Take a look:
Column 1 - TWIDW: This Week In Doctor Who - the classic column. No
more Sarah Jane listings. Listings for North and South America
(essentially the Western Hemisphere) removed. Listings for stations
with rights to Doctor Who that aren't airing the show right now -
removed.
Column 2 - TWIDW: Western Hemisphere (title may change) - everything
Doctor Who from North and South America, inclduing almost all the PBS
listings. Listings for PBS stations that aren't airing the show right
now - removed.
Column 3 - TWIDW: The Sarah Jane Schedules (premiere) - The Sarah
Jane Adventures schedules all together and easy to read. Also - all
the podcasts. Also - the listings for Doctor Who stations not
currently airing the show that still have rights (all over the world,
including PBS). If the K9 series ever gets finished and reaches the
airwaves, it will be here. Essentially the catch-all column that can
morph into a proper Sarah Jane column as the show's influence spreads
around the globe.
Column 4 - TWIDW: Torchwood This Week - apart from adding the TWIDW
branding, this column stays the same.
Outpost Gallifrey readers used to getting the combined This Week In
Doctor Who column - you will see columns 1,2, and 3 in order on the
This Week In Doctor Who page (well, the stations not airing Who will
probably get clipped).
Torchwood schedule information is included in the Torchwood This Week
column http://groups.yahoo.com/group/torchwood .

The (season?) premiere of New Zealand's Got Talent has the Doctor Who
time slot this week. Not sure if this is a one time pre-emption, the
end of the repeats, or the repeats will change nights. UKTV will be
airing Doctor Who at the day and time (Thursday 7:30PM) that Prime
has used for the repeat run, so Who might simply be on the move. Time
will tell ...
