The Zocalo Today - December 4, 1999

Hello all. Hope you had a marvelous Thanksgiving.

RISING STARS #3 IS OUT!
The next issue of JMS' comic book "Rising Stars" hit the shelves this week.
Issue #3 follows the story of Lee Jackson, a pyrokinetic. The series is set
to run for 24 issues, roughly one a month.

LEGIONS OF FIRE IS OUT!
Peter David's "Legions of Fire" -- Book One of a trilogy on Centauri Prime,
is out. Check your local bookstore for a copy. Peter is a wonderful
writer, so I'm looking forward to reading this new novel on the Centauri
Empire!

HOUR 25 POSTERS
There are still three days left before the Christy Marx posters will be
auctioned off on ebay. Item number is #208674561, so check it out. Posters
will be autographed by Harlan Ellison, JMS, Larry DiTillio and Peter Ledger.

BABYLON 5 SURVEY
Responses are coming in nicely on the survey. If you have not yet sent in
your votes for products, please do so soon. The deadline is December 13.
You can view the survey out at The Zocalo Today
-http://www.isnnews.net/the_zocalo/survey.htm or I can send you a copy via
e-mail. Just drop me a line at Bruckner@... and it will be on its
way.

PRECEDENCE PUBLISHING
"Severed Dreams" - the latest collectible card set from Precedence Publishing
is out. This set reflects an 'alternate' ' Captain' Sinclair universe,
speculating what could have happened if Sinclair had remained aboard Babylon
5.

JMS COLLABORATING WITH CHRIS CARTER
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding a report that JMS was working
with Chris Carter from "X-Files" on a new series. At LosCon - a convention
in LA - JMS commented on the effort and posted this comment out in the B5
newsgroup.

"The irony of course is that if "Harsh Realm" (a series Chris Carter was
working on) had been canceled even a week later, we would've concluded the
deal with CBS for the show I'd created and which Chris, Frank Spotnitz and I
would exec produce. CBS had agreed to a pilot production deal, and they were
haggling over the per episode license fee should the show get picked up for
series when HR got canceled and the ripple effect started. "

"The other thing I wanted to mention is that in my years in the biz, I have
rarely enjoyed a partnership with anyone as much as with Chris and Frank, who
are not only stand-up guys, but in all of our discussions I don't think a
single idea got broached that didn't make sense. "

"Their approach is the same we had at B5: you check your ego at the door and
do what's best for the story. I have nothing but good things to say about
them, and even though Fox felt that they needed to go forth only with 100% CC
after HR was canceled (the logic being that it didn't work because Chris
didn't actually create it), I consider the experience a positive one. "

"They're good people over there at 1013."

HOLIDAY PROJECTS - Penny Lane

Pat Tallman has, for years, supported Penny Lane - a home for abused
children. This holiday season Penny Lane is working toward making the
holidays more enjoyable for the children they serve. Below is a note from
Pat's web site - http://www.patriciatallman.com on their Christmas effort.

For all of our children at Penny Lane, we do our very best to brighten the
holiday season by providing special holiday outings and special, festively
wrapped gifts. You can help us. You may want to become involved by providing
or gathering donations of holiday gifts, gift wrap, festive holiday foods
like tins of cookies, popcorn or candies, gift certificates for music or
videos, passes to movies or sporting events, or even a small donation. For
these children, knowing that you care about them makes a world of difference.
Some children at Penny Lane have no family, no one to visit them with holiday
good cheer. A special gift from you will help ! Here is a list of suggested
gifts for the teens in residence at Penny Lane. Thank you for keeping the
children of Penny Lane in your thoughts and in your hearts for the holiday !

Personal CD players with earphones, boom boxes, clock-radio CD-player
combinations...the girls also like getting big fluffy stuffed animals, or
big, huggable animal-shaped pillows for cuddling, funny-fluffy bedroom
slippers, bracelets, hair ornaments, cartoon-character T-shirts. For both
boys and girls- journal/notebooks with pens, small cameras with film and
photo albums, watches, wallets, Sports-team T-shirts and sweat shirts,
hand-held games, sports balls ( footballs, nerf-footballs, basketballs,
soccer balls ) board games, koosh-balls, etc.

For more information, please contact Penny Lane directly at this address and
let them know that Patricia Tallman sent you! :)

BABYLON 5 FAN CLUB MERCHANDISE
There will be no script offered for the month of December. Val wanted to
make sure that nothing would interfere with getting your orders out quickly,
so the next script will be out in January.

There is still time to get your favorite B5 fan (maybe even you!) the Babylon
5 Writer's Bible, Series Treatment or a set of autographed copies of the
wonderful Babylon 5 magazine. With the magazines, they have made the
choices hard, but I think you can't miss with any of them! The various items
are up at both http://www.thestation.com and at http://zocalo.isnnews.net.
If you don't have internet access and are interested in ordering, let me know
and I can drop you specific information by e-mail.

OFFICIAL BABYLON 5 MAGAZINE
Issue #18 arrived this week and I think it just continues to get better with
time. Under an adorable cover of Carrie Dobro is an insightful interview,
and those of you who have met Carrie at conventions or in a chat know she's
an absolutely delightful person. Also inside, part 2 of an interview with
Bruce Boxleitner and a superb Babylon 5 Chronology. Terry Jones and his wife
have put together a timeline with major reference points to help put the B5
universe in perspective.

As usual, there are a lot of other things in the magazine, including a
Station Log of "Racing the Night", interviews with John Iacovelli, Mark
Walters, Dark Hoffman, and much more.

CONVENTION REPORTS
A LOT of people have responded with marvelous convention reports for LosCon,
Praxis, Vulkon and others. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to
share their experience.

If you are going to a convention, let us know. We have an attendance page up
at The Zocalo Today so that people can get in touch with others going to the
same convention. Need a roomie, want to get together? This is the perfect
place to start!

SUGGESTIONS
If you have suggestions about items The Zocalo Today should cover, pass that
along. I'm always looking for ways to expand the scope of The Zocalo Today.

That's it for this week.
Take care now,

Hi there.
Just a brief note to alert you to a couple of things:

1. Christy Marx is selling some nifty posters over at http://www.ebay.com. The
posters are from Hour 25, a radio program Christy worked on with JMS, Kathryn
Drennan, Harlan Ellison, Larry DiTillio and others. These are signed posters --
and there are 25 of them. The Item number is #208674561 and the auction ends on
December 7.

2. Carrie Dobro will be chatting on a BBC program called Sci-Fi Heaven on
Monday, November 29. The URL for the site is
http://www.chat.beeb.com/chat/comingup. Carrie is scheduled to chat at 9pm GMT
-- that's 5pm EST (Eastern Standard Time). If you can't participate, you can
send along questions before hand to chat@.... I'll post a note when the
transcript is available.

The latest Babylon 5 magazine (#Issue 18) has a part one of a wonderful Babylon
5 Chronology. It's really special and something I don't think you'll want to
miss. The magazine will not be here in the US for a little while, but you
should keep an eye out for it.

For Jason Carter fans -- his episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 are on this week --
Nov. 29/30/Dec. 1. It's on the FX Cable channel so check your listings.

This week's topic (a really easy one) -- What is your favorite first season
episode and why?

Got my copies of the Babylon 5 Writer's Bible and Series Treatment on Friday.
They are fantastic. I'll put a bit more information up at the site soon.

I'm hoping people attending LosCon and the Mid-Ohio Conventions will send along
some information for all who could not attend (NOT SO SUBTLE HINT). There are
some wonderful reports on Praxis, Tropicon, Vulkon (Orlando) and others on the
Reports page at http://zocalo.isnnews.net. Thanks to everyone who has
contributed.

Be sure to send in any letters, comments, discussion topic suggestions or
responses to sgbruckner@..., thezocalo@... or bruckner@....
(Sorry you can't just respond to this message but it's a quirk of eGroups.com.)

Take care.

There are a number of things happening this week, so I thought I'd drop a
line to catch you up on what to watch for on the tube this week!

Bridges. Here on the East Coast, the show is seen at 10pm, so be sure to
check your local listings to see when it airs for you.

Sci-Fi Channel November 26 at 1pm EST. Gary's segment is entitled "The
Theatre".

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW

Tim Earls, designer of many of the ships and alien worlds we saw in B5 and
Crusade, is now working on Star Trek Voyager. He's contributed some
illustrations to the new book "Star Trek: New Worlds, New Civilizations".

NEW LINKS
I've put out a few new links this week. If you've been wondering about
information on Tim Choate - his site is at
http://members.xoom.com/glassalien.
Tim will be putting up a new site soon, so stay tuned.

purchased without becoming members, so check it out if you love the Psi Corps
trilogy and want a hardcover edition.

is scheduled for release in December. DelRey has a brief synopsis of the
book out at their website at http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey. Drop over
and have a peek -- unless you are afraid of spoiling the pleasure you'll have
when you read the novel.

KEEPING UP WITH JMS

Q: Can you tell us what you've been up to since Crusade production ended?

A: I've been about as busy since Crusade as during it. In addition to the
comic (which is going great guns, but the schedule is a bit off, about which
I've had some talks with the good folks at Top Cow), and the series project
which is currently in rather serious development mode....

There's the TV movie script I recently finished for CBS...the adaptation of
CM Kornbluth's "The Marching Morons" for NPR's Beyond 2000 radio series...I
finished a novel outline now being sold in NY...I have a feature film in
development that's now in script stage...I knocked down two of the B5 stories
in Amazing Stories Magazine (with one coming out this month and another due
from me in December)... the ongoing column in B5 Magazine...in the next
little bit I should finally conclude a deal for an original computer game
I've designed (have both a developer and a publisher who want to do it)...the
bulk of the original B5 novel outlines were written after Crusade was
completed...and there's been a bunch of other stuff.

But the main thing that's consumed my time has been the series development,
which has just recently begun to show signs of maybe some good news coming,
though I can't say anything more about it at this point.

Suffice to say, though, it's been kinda hectic around here for the last few
months.

the Z.

original sound track of "A Call to Arms", etc.

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW

Bruce Boxleitner has just signed to do an independent film that begins
filming in Los Angeles next month. He is awaiting word on when his new
series will begin production. The tentatively named "Kukira" is being
developed by Majel Barrett Roddenberry. Hopefully the property will be sold
and begin production in the spring.

Richard Biggs has just completed an episode of VIP, the series starring
Pamela Anderson. Richard has also finished an episode of Beverly Hills 90210.
No baby news as yet -- but very soon!

Jerry Doyle has just signed to appear in an independent film. Not much
information available on it as yet.

Read a review of Mira Furlan's new play "Cranes", currently showing at the
Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street in New York City). While the
reviewer didn't think a lot of the play, he felt Mira out shined all other
cast members and made the trip worthwhile. The play officially opened
October 20th; closes on November 14. For tickets call (212) 279-4200. Visit
http://mirafurlan.simplenet.com/cranes.html for information about ticket
prices and show times.

wonderful Christmas gifts! Prices on many of the patches have been cut and
the marvelous Antioch calendar is now $8.95. Though it's a 1999 calendar, it

collecting autographs.

available. Get Volume 1, Issue 8 signed by Bill Mumy; Volume 2, Issue 4
signed by Christopher Franke and Volume 2, Issue 5 signed by Peter Woodward.

SIGHTINGS

Did anyone catch Daniel Dae Kim in "Walker, Texas Ranger" on Saturday night?
He was great. It wasn't a huge part, but his character played a major role in
the story. Too bad the only ones kicking butt were Chuck Norris and his
officers. Daniel has studied martial arts for quite a while and has even
participated in competitions.

DISCUSSION TOPIC:

What made Babylon 5 different for you as a TV series? Was it the overall
story, the characters, what?

Send in your opinions, views, thoughts to sgbruckner@... or

Hi there.
Just a brief note to mention that I'm off to Australia tomorrow for the "Best of
Both Worlds" Convention in Sydney. I won't have a chance to work on The Zocalo
while I'm away, but be patient. I'll get back on it as soon as I return.

Please continue to send discussion topics, book reviews, trading post listings,
letters to any of my mailboxes -- sgbruckner@...; thezocalo@...;

One bit of news, Carrie Dobro has replaced Peter Woodward on the Sci-Fi Cruise
leaving Miami in December. Peter's shooting schedule for "The Patriot" with Mel
Gibson has changed, preventing him from attending both the Convergence con in
the UK and the Sci-Fi Cruise.

Thank you Jeffrey Willerth and Pat Tallman for a great chat on Thursday night.
There should be a transcript available soon, so check Yahoo and the TNT site.

Take care.
Sandy

Hi there. Arrangements have firmed up for Jeffrey & Pat's chat on Thursday
at 6pm P/9pm EDT. Here is what you do:

Go to http://chat.yahoo.com and create a Yahoo identity. At 9pm EDT/6pm PDT,
you will be able to access the specific room [and there will be a link under
the 'Live Events' section at the top of the page.]

CANCELLATION NOTICE

Peter Woodward will NOT be able to attend the Convergence convention in
England, October 23-24. His shooting schedule for "The Patriot" has changed,
making it impossible for him to make the convention.

That's it. Hope to see you on Thursday night!
Take care.

The Zocalo Today - October 12, 1999

WHAT'S NEW

Jeffrey Willerth and Pat Tallman have agreed to come for a chat this week.
I'm not sure of the venue yet, but I'll send you a note as soon as that is
worked out. It will be at 6pm (PST) - that part I'm sure of, so please stay
tuned.

The Fan Club has a couple of unique items out at the ebay auction site. They
go on sale very soon however, so drop over and check them out. One is a
Season One Cast poster that hung in the Babylonian Production office for 5
years. The other is a congratulations poster made by WB after "Severed
Dreams" won the Hugo in 1967.

FAR POINT

IT WAS MARVELOUS!!!! I don't know what more I can say about Far Point! It was
THE best convention I've been to in a LONG time. I had a ball and I hope
everyone who attended had as much fun as I did. Peter Jurasik was superb,
Peter Woodward and Carrie Dobro were fantastic -- and surprise guest Bob
Krimmer was a hoot! The other guests there were no slouches either! JAMES
DARREN -- ahhh -- I think that I'll have to get copies of the DS9 episodes
featuring Vic Fontaine! This man is marvelous. Not only does he look
stupendous -- he can croon a tune that will melt your heart! Mary Kay Adams,
who I remember more from her "Guiding Light" days than as Na'Toth on B5, was
one of the sweetest people. She and Peter J. had a great time dancing to one
song James sang on stage Sunday afternoon. Krimmer got into the act as well
-- dancing with Peter J. Now that's a match made somewhere! More on this
later.

NEW SECTIONS OF THE ZOCALO

I have added a couple of new sections to The Zocalo. One is Letters.
Sometimes there's something you want to share and there's no appropriate
place -- so send me a letter and I'll put it into the Letters section.

The other new section deals with CHARITIES. While at Far Point this weekend,
I learned about two charities that will tug at your heartstrings! One is
supported by Peter Jurasik and he did one heck of a job this weekend raising
money! A little baby is in need of a double transplant -- liver and
intestines! Peter is putting a tremendous effort into supporting the National
Transplant Assistance Fund. Their web site is at National Transplant
Assistance Fund. More on this soon from Peter.

There are a LOT of other charities supported by the B5 Cast and others in the
science fiction community -- like the Galaxy Ball at the top of the page!
I'll be gathering more information to place on the Charity page so that you
can learn about what these wonderful people are doing to help those who are
less fortunate.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS!

The following members of the Babylon 5/Crusade "family" will be celebrating
birthdays this month. May they have many, many more!

Jeff Conaway - October 5
John Vulich (Optic Nerve) - October 10
John Copeland - October 13
Linda Huse (set costumer) - October 16

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW

Peter Woodward is currently in South Carolina filming "The Patriot" -- a new
Mel Gibson movie! Peter's character is General O'Hara! Peter is also at work
on Men at Arms a half hour entertainment series documenting use of weaponry
through demonstration, reenactment and film clips. Peter is Creator/Writer
and it is being produced by Greystone Entertainment.

THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION TOPIC

This week's discussion topic: Why do you like science fiction?

Want to share your views of the genre with others? Send a note to

Hi there.

Sorry for the intrusion, but I wanted to check out delivery of the messages
via e-groups. Some folks have been getting messages that seem to have NO
LINE BREAKS. Each paragraph is one long data stream! Wow, makes for
difficult reading. So I am testing delivery of messages to e-groups using
other e-mail programs. Hopefully we can find one that will work for the
majority of users. Let me know if this message is easier to read than the
direct posting to e-groups -- the way I have been sending out messages.

Did you like doing the first set of polls (other than the fact that I have a
hard time formulating questions that you can answer?) I think it's a great
way to get a quick read on how things are going with the Zocalo. While I
prefer getting e-mail notes, polls are much quicker for everyone! I'll be
putting up some additional polls soon.

OK, let's see how this message gets to you -- if it gets to you!
Take care and have a great week.

BABYLON 5/CRUSADE IN PRINT

TV Zone - Issue #119 -- has a great special feature on Crusade. It's a goo=

for Carrie Dobro's character "Dureena" and the photos from the episode are g=
reat! Also included are some reviews of Crusade episodes -- in the back of t=
he issue! Don't go there if you are a FAN of the series!

Cult Times - Special #11 -- Has the entire Crusade cast on the cover! Cool=
! They do a good job of talking with the cast about their characters and ho=
w they felt about the series!

Cult Time -- #48 - September -- talks with John Copeland about his efforts =
on Crusade as producer and director. John has been intricately involved in =
all aspects of the show and always has valuable insights.

d why?

What's Ahead at The Zocalo

I'm pulling together some chats with B5/Crusade folks, so stayed tuned to t=
he web site for dates and times.

I'll also be dusting off some interviews with B5 and Crusade cast members f=
or posting here.

If you are attending a convention -- be sure to drop us a report and photos=
  for the photo gallery!

-------------------------------------
ZOCALO POLLS
I just closed all the current polls for The Zocalo. You should be receivin=
g the results soon. For Pen Pals and HTML format, the answer is fairly clea=
r. The interesting one was where to open up the Zocalo's format to other ar=
eas within science fiction! That one was close!

Hi there.
I forgot a couple of things for this week.

If you're like me, you hate to type more than is necessary. A BIG THANK YOU
goes to the folks over at ISN News. Not only have they given The Zocalo a neat
new home, they have given me a secondary domain there. You can get to The Z by
typing http://zocalo.isnnews.net So update your bookmarks and tell your
friends!

If you are not on the net or you feel as if you want to drop a letter to Sierra
regarding the cancellation of the B5 Game, here's an address for you to use:
Sierra Studios, 3380 146th Place SE, Suite 300, Bellevue, WA 98007.

Bruce Boxleitner's new book, "Frontier Earth" will not be out until November,
but Amazon books (http://www.amazon.com) has it up at their web site -- with a
review. I'll have something for you on this soon.

Upcoming Conventions:
FarPoint -- Since a number of people wrote that they would not be able to get to
the convention on Friday night to see the bloopers, I asked the convention folks
if I could show them on either Saturday or Sunday -- even in a smaller room. I
think I've been added to the schedule on both days! Saturday at 1pm and Sunday
at 10.

Rising Star, October 8-10, 1999, Glenvar High School, Salem, VA. Guests:
Richard Biggs, Julie Caitlin Brown and Maggie Egan. For more information, call
Fred R. Eichleman at 540-389-9400.

DISCUSSION TOPICS:
Be sure to send in your responses to the discussion topic for this week -- or
even last week. I'll keep the discussion page going until it gets too large and
then archive it off. (Last week's topic was "What was your favorite season one
B5 episode?")

NEW SECTIONS OF THE ZOCALO:
The Pen Pal page is up and running. If you are looking for someone to
correspond with, drop me an address to include on the page. If you are into a
particular subject, like costuming or special effects, add that information as
well.

The convention attendance page is also up. Going to a con and want to meet
others? Drop me your e-mail address along with the name of the convention you
will be attending -- I'll add it the page.

Where to write:

You can reach me at: sgbruckner@... or thezocalo@... or
bruckner@....

That's it!
Take care.

Issue #3
I just put up a new issue of The Zocalo at the web site. You'll see a few
differences. I hope it will be easier to get around now. While having a
running page is convenient, it does get a bit unweildy as it grows.

What's New

BABYLON 5 SIMULATION GAME: People over at http://www.firstones.com have
organized a petition to voice fan support for the game. If you would like to
participate in the petition, here is the URL
http://www.firstones.com/forums/Forum1/HTML/000172.htm.

OPEN COPYRIGHT VIOLATION!

Some people have been circulating a very detailed synopsis of "Value Judgements"
-- a Crusade script written by Fiona Avery. Even though the script was not
filmed or aired, it is the property of Fiona Avery only. While a brief synopsis
can be permitted, the copy going around is in NO WAY brief. Fiona is a fledgling
writer and has been selling the script at some writing conferences, like NASFIC
last month and WFC in Providence, RI Nov. 2-4. Needless to say, a document like
the synopsis can't be doing her any good, in fact, I'm sure there are many who
would feel it is unnecessary to buy the script when it can be read on-line! I
hope that people who have posted the synopsis will delete it. This is the sort
of thing that prevents "real" scripts from being available on the web!

BABYLON 5 SCRIPTS

September is nearly over! If you haven't ordered your copy of "The Gathering"
-- you had best do it soon. Scripts are available at http://www.thestation.com
only through September 30.

"Midnight on the Firing" line will be the next script available. Orders will
only be taken starting October 1. As more information becomes available on
this, I'll let you know.

STARLOG #267

The latest issue of StarLog has a great number of items related to "Crusade".
Joe Nazzarro spends a day at the studio while filming "The Needs of Earth". He
outlines how a TV series is actually produced and gives you some idea of how
complex an operation it is.

To me, though, the article that makes this a "keeper" is the fold-out piece on
costume designer Randy Gardell. Randy, Kim Holly, Linda Hose and others really
did a magnificent job on the costumes.

CONVENTIONS

This weekend, Peter Jurasik is at StarCon in Denver. If you are attending, let
us know how it went and what you thought of Peter's presentation -- and the
convention.

UPCOMING CONVENTIONS

Valley Con 24, October 1-3, 1999; Fargo, ND, Place: City Center Super 8.
Guests: Jeffrey Willerth (Kosh), J. Gregory Keyes (author Psi Corps trilogy).
For more information, send e-mail to valleycon@... or visit their web
site at http://www.netcenter.net/~jnelson/vc/

FarPoint, October 8-10, 1999; Baltimore, MD, Place: Hunt Valley Marriot,
Baltimore. Guest: Peter Jurasik, Mary Kay Adams, Peter Woodward, Carrie Dobro.
I'll be there too with the B5 bloopers. I'm on the schedule for Friday night!

For more information, send e-mail to napasha@... or visit their web site at
http://www.bcpl.net/~wilsonr

DISCUSSION TOPIC

We had a LOT of people submit responses to the discussion topic -- what is your
favorite Season one episode?

This week's discussion topic, submitted by Jeff Feroce is:

During the movie "In the Beginning", Dr. Franklin refuses to divulge any
medical information he has on the Minbari that could be used by Earth
Force as a military advantage. Given that earth and humanity was on the
verge of complete annihilation, was his stance justified? Discussions
on this might include morality, practicality, etc.

Thanks.

What do you think? Send in your responses to sgbruckner@... or
thezocalo@....

POLLS
The polls are still open. Visit to see how the voting is going -- or cast your
vote if you haven't done so already.

The Questions are:

1. Do you want the Zocalo to remain focused on Babylon5/Crusade only?
2. Do you want a Pen Pal page?
3. Should these e-mail notes be sent out in HTML format?

Regarding the last one, I'm not coding anything this week with HTML, but I have
made sure I have included the http:// so that e-mail programs that are
internet-aware will still provide you a link to the sites involved.

I think that's it for this week. I'll be adding items to the web site this week
as information becomes available. So drop over often.

If you have suggestions for ways to improve The Zocalo, let me know. I'm always
looking for ways to enhance the information and appearance -- hopefully making
it easier for everyone to enjoy the publication.

Take care.
See you next time.

Issue #2

Hurricane Floyd having played with our lives on the East Coast considerably this week. I hope this issue finds you all well and not too badly shaken or stirred!

I've moved The Zocalo to a new web site -- http://www.isnnews.net/the_zocalo/zocalo.htm . This will give me a bit more freedom to update and keep the issues current -- not to mention ridding it of the bothersome banner from AcmeCity! Thank you ISN News!

What's New!

We are now over 1100 strong here at The Zocalo! That's fantastic, given the fact that the site hasn't been up that long. Thanks for your help and your support!

NEIL GAIMAN TOUR - Neil Gaiman, author of "Day of the Dead" is currently on a tour, giving readings of his short fiction in Washington, DC and Boston. He'll be in Bethesda, at the Bethesda Theatre Cafe on September 21 and at the Brattle Theatre at Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA on September 23. For more information, visit Comic Book Legal Defense Fund or call 1-800-99-CBLDF.

NEIL's "Murder Mysteries" are now featured on the "Seeing Ear Theatre" at the Sci-Fi Channel. Visit their web site Sci-Fi Channel. This is a great site for audio drama, so visit often!

Some new magazines on the news stands feature Crusade, including the latest issues of StarLog, Cult Times and TV Zone. I'll have more about the issues out at the Z soon.

QUESTIONS FOR YOU:

Do you want to open up a Pen Pal section at The Zocalo? Let me know if that's something you're interested in.

Do you want the Zocalo to cover ONLY Babylon 5 and Crusade? With the cast and crew branching out into new areas, I'll try to keep up with them, but are there other areas that might be of interest? Several chatters have expressed their pleasure in viewing "FarSpace". I love "Star Gate".

Do we want to open up a Convention Attendance page -- like we had at the old Z? If you're going to a convention, do you want to know who else might be there?

I'm sending this note out with HTML coding in it. Is that a good thing? Bad thing? With so many e-mail programs HTML-capable, I figured it might help with the links, etc.

Send your thoughts to me at either sgbruckner@... or thezocalo@.... I want The Zocalo to be responsive to your needs.

New Discussion Topic:

This week's Discussion Topic is: What is your favorite B5 First Season Episode and Why?

Send in your responses to thezocalo@....

++++++++++++++++++
Babylon 5 is featured in several magazines this month.

STARLOG #266 - Has a great feature on Peter Woodward.

STARLOG #267 - Has a wonderful piece on Crusade. For those of you
interested in costuming -- check this one out. Randy Gardell provides
us with sketches of all the uniforms.

Sci-Fi TV #7 -- October This month, not only do we get a feature giving
as an insider's view of a day on the set of Crusade, but a couple of my
favorite people -- David Allen Brooks and Daniel Dae Kim are
interviewed as well!

TV Zone - #118 - There is a great article on David Allen Brooks in this
issue. Super pictures!

The latest Babylon 5 magazine is out! #16 features "The Fate of

Hello there.
Thank you for all the positive feedback on the notion of bringing back The
Zocalo. While I have a lot to update (especially in the JMS Speaks section),
The Zocalo is ready for you. In only 2 days, nearly 700 people have subscribed
-- FANTASTIC.

This is definitely a work in progress. I want and need your reactions to the
pages. This should be a cooperative effort -- something all of us can enjoy.

The URL for the Zocalo is http://babylon5.acmecity.com/shadow/0/zocalo.htm.

I'll try to update the page as often as I can. E-mail notes will be primarily
highlights from the page -- and a nudge to go look at the website.

Pass along the word about The Zocalo. Be sure to tell them how to subscribe
(note to thezocalo-subscribe@egroups.com). There is also a subscription box on
the front page of The Zocalo to make it easier for newcomers.

Please let me know what you think.
Take care and enjoy.
Sandy
