A sample of what you'll discover in Volume 2:

* Why Sinclair is prominently featured in both the A and B stories in
"By Any Means Necessary."

* What side of G'Kar was explored for the first time in "By Any Means
Necessary" and becomes central to B5 mythology.

* What previous episode inspired the G'Kar/Londo storyline in "By Any
Means Necessary."

* Find out what the inspiration was for the mind-altering G'Quan Eth.

* What writer Kathryn M. Drennan thought was a private joke that
apparently all the fans knew.

* How the episode "By Any Means Necessary" got its name and
specifically which historical strike was the basis for the story.

* What writer Kathryn M. Drennan considers her two "small but proud"
contributions to Babylon 5.

* Never before revealed: the complete original premise for "By Any
Means Necessary"

* Learn which actor, seen as an alien in "TKO", was recast as a human
in "Ceremonies of Light and Dark."

* What was the model for the Mutai in "TKO".

* Why in "TKO's" Act 1 Ivanova is listening to jazz, reading a book.

* Revealed: which scene Larry DiTillio says he "wrote and rewrote 100
times."

* Witness the script writing process in progress. The included draft
of "TKO" is a reprint of Larry DiTillio's actual writer's draft
complete with handwritten notes.

* Why Larry DiTillio refers to "Eyes" as a "protracted gabfest."

* Which actor caused "infinite delays" while shooting "Eyes" and why.

* Which actors Larry DiTillio nicknamed "Crazy Men at Large."

* Exposed -- the Great Motorcycle flap.

* Learn what Tuckerization is and how it found it's way into "Eyes."

* Which American president's funeral inspired "Legacies."

* Why writer D.C. Fontana uses "Legacies" as a teaching tool in her
writing classes.

* What was J. Michael Straczynski's one request for "Spider in the
Web" and what he originally called it.

* Find out how Kathryn M. Drennan and Larry DiTillio balanced the
portrayal of the regular characters with the guest characters.

* What action was cut from "The War Prayer" that was finally seen in
"Legacies."

* Detailed -- D.C. Fontana's "very personal references".

* Find out what gift from J. Michael Straczynski D.C. Fontana wears
everyday.

PLUS A SPECIAL BONUS:
Just like previous volumes, the scripts included in Volume 2 are early
drafts that include never-before-seen dialogue and action that were
later cut from the episodes.

Because there are so many differences, you also get the Script/DVD
Variations inventory, which catalogues all the changes, deletions,
additions and extras that were in the script but you never actually
got to see in a handy, easy-to-reference grid.

Volume 2 has a total of 140 entries detailing these B5 Script/DVD
variations you probably never knew.

Volume 2 is part of a 3-volume limited edition release that will only
be available through September 30, 2008.

VOLUME 2 EPISODE SYNOPSES

"By Any Means Necessary"
An accident is the catalyst for an illegal strike by dock workers. A
strike negotiator sent from Earth causes tensions to escalate. Londo
has the only plant G'Kar can use for an important religious ceremony.
"TKO"

Walker Smith, a friend of Garibaldi's, participates in the Mutai,
which causes Smith to have a newfound respect for alien ways. Rabbi
Koslov brings Ivanova a legacy from her father; Ivanova allows herself
to mourn her father's death.
"Eyes"

Sinclair is the focus of an internal investigation. Ivanova refuses to
submit to a scan by the Psi Corps, even if it means she has to resign
her commission. Garibaldi gets too much help from Lennier in building
his motorcycle.

"Legacies"
When the body of a revered Minbari military leader mysteriously
disappears, Sinclair has to overcome his feelings about the
Earth-Minbari War to keep the peace. Talia and Ivanova both try to
influence a young telepath coming into her powers.

"A Distant Star"
The Explorer Class ship Cortez stops over for resupply, bringing an
old friend of Sheridan's who shares stories of exploring the Rim with
the crew. Later, an accident aboard the Cortez leaves it stranded in
hyperspace unless Zeta Squadron can rescue it.

"Spider in the Web"
A pro-Mars independence businessman, a good friend of Talia's, is
murdered during negotiations. The Mars representative is taken hostage
by the businessman's murderer. Sheridan realizes that the murderer is
a victim of the Lazarus Project.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
J. Michael Straczynski's 14 Volume Series will no longer be available
after June 30, 2008. HURRY.

UPDATE FROM JMS
I snatched this from the B5 moderated news group this morning:
It's been a while, I know...but things have been awfully crazed at
this end of the modem.

I was there for the premiere of Changeling (no the name isn't going to
change) at Cannes, and it was, overall, perhaps the most surreal
experience of my life. I was ensconced at the Hotel du Cap overlooking
the French Riviera, just abaft from Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie
and Brad Pitt and Mick Jagger (who came to dinner with the bunch of us
that Friday) and surrounded by sights I could never have imagined
myself seeing. Day-trip drives into the South of France for shopping,
into Monaco and Monte Carlo where I dropped five hundred Euros at the
casino because, well, you pretty much have to...and the premiere.

Imagine for a moment: a procession of twenty one cars preceded and
followed by French police running lights and sirens to get the
motorcade through the streets of Cannes en route to the press
conference and, several hours later, the premiere. A sea of popping
flashbulbs. Paparazzi and TV cameras and microphones, reporters from
all over the world, and everyone shouting questions, to look this way
or that way. The red carpet, long and broad as the ocean. The theater,
three thousand seats filled with tuxedoes and gowns and stars. Smiles
and tears at the right moments as the film rolled by. A ten minute
standing ovation. Proclamations and prophecies of Oscars.
Surreal. Dream-like. Impossible. Was any of this really happening? To me?

Impossible. But there it was.
Then: after more days of interviews and press and screenings and
stunningly positive, glowing reviews, on to Berlin, where my script
for Ninja Assassin was being filmed. Brilliant stunt work. Dinners in
the cool German evening. Then off again to London for meetings with
several production companies regarding TV projects, and a meeting with
director Paul Greengrass on They Marched Into Sunlight, for Tom Hanks'
company, before flying back to LA for four days of massive jetlag.

Never give up, folks. Never stop trying. Never surrender dreams.
Because sometimes they come true.

Two asides before I crash.

First, on the plane ride home, I'd picked up the July issue of T3
Magazine, which contained in the mylar packet a subsidiary slim issue
about future tech and jargon and looked ahead to gadgets yet to come.
I meant to take it with me off the plane for research on another
project, but left it behind and it doesn't seem to be available
anywhere here; I may have missed the issue. Point being, could one of
our UK friends scan that magazine (it was only like 20 pages) and
upload it to me? If you do volunteer, could you note it here first to
avoid lots of folks duplicating the efforts? Accept my thanks in advance.

Second, keep an eye out for Daily Variety on June 19th. Another
surprise yet to come.

This is the dream. This is the fairy tale we all expect but so rarely
get. I am at peace. Go figure.

THE CHANGELING COMING OCTOBER 24
According to Variety, Universal will release Clint Eastwood's period
drama CHANGELING, starring Angelina Jolie, on Oct. 24 in a limited run
before going wide one week later. CHANGELING made its world premiere
at the recently wrapped Cannes Film Festival, where it was in
competition. At Cannes, the French title of the film was "The
Exchange," prompting speculation that U might change the title
domestically, but studio and Eastwood are sticking with the original
name. Film, produced by Imagine Entertainment and Eastwood's Malpaso
Prods., will unspool in the heart of awards season. CHANGELING, set in
1920s Los Angeles, is based on the true life story of a woman whose
son disappears. Months later, police tell her they have found him,
only she says it's not her son. Eastwood directed from a script by J.
Michael Straczynski. John Malkovich, Jeffrey Donovan and Michael Kelly
also star. By opening in only a few select markets on Oct. 24,
Universal and Imagine will look to build buzz and play off reviews.

JEREMIAH ON SCIFI
JEREMIAH fans rejoice!!!! The SciFi Channel will begin running this
JMS series on July 10 at 7:00pm -- running four episodes in a row: The
Long Road, part 1 and 2; Man of Iron, Woman Under Glass and ...And the

years back. Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal Warner starred in this drama
that followed survivors of a virus that kills everyone over 13. Season
One is out on DVD. Season Two has not yet been released.

BABYLON 5 FLASH-BACK
From the Babylon 5 moderated newsgroup comes this link to some
stunning photos of the Babylon 5 garden created by Ron Thornton and
Foundation Imaging at
http://darthmojo.wordpress.com/2008/06/01/b5-flashback-2/. See how in
1992, the tedious work of set design was handled. Seeing the amount of
work that went into every phase of the show, tells you something about
those involved in it.

BABYLON PODCAST
Welcome to Show #114!
Tim and Summer are eager for tonight's episode, but Jeffrey is nowhere
to be found. By a twist of fate, our in-studio guest, James Paul
(Scicomer), is not only a Babylon 5 fan, he's also a researcher
involved with the newest Mars lander, and he brought Script Book
Volume 15 and a bottle of Corralejo with him!
And then, there was much Mars geeking.
Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer, with James, discuss the pivotal events
in Falling Towards Apotheosis. Taking on the Vorlons is a bold move,
even for someone who's returned from the dead.
Discussion: James tells us how he discovered Babylon 5, how he was on
set to watch the filming of Londo's arthropod battle scene in "Sic
Transit Vir", his meeting of June Lockhart and of The Great Maker.
In addition to letting Summer stroke and paw his pretty copy of Volume
15, James has also made the Library of Congress aware of the script
books to they can acquire copies for the archive. He also wants to
figure out how to get a "definitive" collection of science fiction
works in the archive as well, so if anyone has any suggestions, take a
peek at the online catalog to see if any of your favorite classics or
groundbreaking works aren't in there yet.

To catch up on all the wonderful podcasts, go to www.babylonpodcast.com.

DISCUSSION TOPIC

It seems like every day I hear something that reminds me of Babylon 5.
The other day, Senator Barack Obama was giving a speech and he used
the phrase, Earth's last, best hope. I wonder where that came from!!!
Have you heard others? While I was in Rome recently, I came across
Garabaldi street and a Garabaldi restaurant! I'm sure there are more.

BRIEF REVIEW: I LOVED THIS MOVIE!
There aren't many movies about impending death that you can say are
funny, full of wit and uplifting. I am a big fan of Morgan Freeman.
This actor has limitless range and he proves again that he can take
any role and make you care about the character. He and Jack Nickolson
are marvelous together -- playing off each other, making you laugh and
cry. You hear the phrase often, "Life's too short." What would you do
if you had only a short time to live.

AROUND THE WORLD OF SCIENCE FICTION

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
The Chicago Tribune reports that the remaining episodes of BATTLESTAR
GALACTICA will be expanded. The series airs its mid-fourth season
finale tonight and many have been left wondering when the final ten
episodes would air. Now it seemse that the final episode of the series
could clock in at three hours, two of which will be added on bringing
the episode count to twelve. Reports of further TV movies have been
solidified with at least one pretty much set to be made this year.
Finally comes word from E! Online that the final episodes, no matter
what the length, will be going to air in the first quarter of 2009.

DEAD AIR
A new trailer for DEAD AIR is not available at
http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=12567. This movie stars Patty
Tallman. It is a zombie movie directed by Corbin Bernsen (LA Law). You
can see a behind-the- scenes clip over at
http://www.reelzchannel.com/video/33472/dead-air-set-visit.

FRINGE
Fox has posted an interview on YouTube in which J.J. Abrams talks
about his upcoming TV series, FRINGE. It gives you a glimpse of the
new show -- and an insight into the characters and how it was created.
USA Today reported that DC Comics will offer a prequel comic to
FRINGE. The comic is due for release on Aug. 27.

JON VOIGHT JOINS 24
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jon Voight has signed on for the
upcoming seventh season of "24." In his first series role in 40 years,
Voight will play Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) uber-nemesis who is
pulling the strings behind next season's terrorist threat. The
character will be introduced during "24's" two-hour Season 7 prequel
and will be featured heavily in the latter half of the season. The
prequel, now shooting on location in South Africa, is slated to air
Nov. 23, with Season 7 of the Imagine TV/20th TV-produced series
kicking off in January. The tapping of Voight marks the first A-list
villain casting on "24" since Season 1 when Dennis Hopper appeared in
the final episodes as Serbian nationalist Victor Drazen. Voight did
several TV guest spots early in his career -- including a
three-episode stint on "Gunsmoke" between 1966-69 -- until his movie
career exploded with "Midnight Cowboy" in 1969. A four-time Academy
Award nominee, Voight won the best actor Oscar for 1978's "Coming
Home." He recently reprised his role as Nicolas Cage's father in
"National Treasure: Book of Secrets."

THE THAW
From the Hollywood Reporter: Aaron Ashmore ("Smallville," "Veronica
Mars") will star in the indie feature THE THAW, opposite Martha
MacIsaac and Val Kilmer. Anagram Pictures is producing the thriller
about an Arctic research team attacked by a killer parasite released
by melting polar ice caps. Ashmore will play a college student in the
besieged crew. THE THAW is written by Michael Lewis and Mark A. Lewis.
The latter also will direct. Shooting begins in Vancouver on Monday.

LAPD
ER's John Wells is all smiles. NBC eagerly picked up a cop-related
drama put pilot from the "ER" chief of staff. Tentatively titled
"LAPD," hour-long project will center on police in Los Angeles (as you
probably surmised by the title). Ann Biderman - whose credits include
"NYPD Blue" -- is set to write the project, while Chris Chulack ("ER")
will direct. Wells, Biderman and Chulack are set as exec producers on
"LAPD," which will come from Warner Bros. TV and John Wells Prods.
Wells' ER is set to go into it's 15th and final season. Biderman's
credits also include "High Crimes," "Smilla's Sense of Snow" and the
upcoming "Public Enemies."

THE MIDDLEMAN
Matt Keeslar, star of the upcoming ABC Family SF series THE MIDDLEMAN,
said in a recent interview that the show is a blend of SF, comedy and
procedural elements. "It's a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi, crime-solving
procedural. How's that?" Keeslar asked. "It's a cross between MEN IN
BLACK and GET SMART, or THE X-FILES and GET SMART. It's about a young
girl [Natalie Morales as Wendy Watson] who is inducted into a secret
crime- fighting society that solves exotic problems infra-, extra- and
juxta-terrestrial." Keeslar, whose credits include JEKYLL and Masters
of Horror, describes the "Middleman" as a former Navy SEAL who now
fights evil and takes his job very, very seriously. Wendy, meanwhile,
recently graduated from art school and is working as a temp. The show
was created and is executive-produced by Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost,
Medium), who based it on his own Viper Comics comic-book series.
"Wendy has a very wry sensibility about herself and the crime-fighting
organization," Keeslar said. "The relationship between the Middleman
and Wendy basically develops from him respecting Wendy as an
apprentice to more of an older-brother/younger-sister [dynamic] to a
crime-fighting duo. That's the arc of their relationship." ABC Family
has ordered 13 episodes of THE MIDDLEMAN and will premiere the pilot
on June 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

2012
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Amanda Peet has landed the female
lead in Roland Emmerich's epic disaster project 2012. Peet is joining
a strong ensemble cast that includes John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor,
Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt. 2012 revolves around a
global cataclysm and the heroic struggle of the survivors. Peet is
playing Cusack's ex-wife, newly married to a wealthy man. Cusack plays
a divorced father trying to become a writer while holding a job as a
limo driver. Emmerich wrote the script with Harald Kloser, who is
producing with Mark Gordon and Larry Franco. Emmerich also is
executive producing with Michael Wimer and Ute Emmerich. Barring an
actors strike, the movie will shoot in July. The release date is
scheduled for July 10, 2009.

JERICHO - FANS STILL TRYING
JERICHO fans are continuing their campaign to bring the show back by
sponsoring more than 200 local ad spots to air on cable TV stations in
the Los Angeles area. The group, dubbed the "Jericho Rangers," has
already purchased a print ad in Variety and rented a billboard in
downtown Los Angeles to show their support for the series and help
find it a new broadcast home. The group paid for the advertising time
through a fundraising campaign which generated more than $6,000 in the
past three weeks. The fan-created 30-second ad features a voiceover
provided by actor Brad Beyer, who played Stanley Richmond on the show.
It's scheduled to air for 10 days, beginning June 12th, during several
popular cable shows, including Ghost Hunters on SCI FI Channel and
Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. The ad will also be hosted
at the group's official site, www.SaveJerichoAgain.com. JERICHO was
cancelled for the first time last year after one season. CBS brought
it back for seven more episodes in early 2008 in response to the
efforts of fans, who sent in bags of nuts in support of the show.
After the new episodes earned lackluster ratings, CBS decided not to
renew the show for fall.

DRAGONOLOGY
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal has acquired the film
rights to the children's book series DRAGONOLOGY. Leonard Hartman will
write and executive-produce the adaptation. The books, by Dugald A.
Steer, are based on the conceit that dragons actually exist, as
revealed by the Victorian dragonologist Ernest Drake. An underlying
theme is that dragons should be studied and revered in the same way as
any rare species. Hartman's fantasy-adventure script revolves around a
group of dragonologists who go on a globe-trotting quest to keep a
corrupt man from taking control of the world's dragons and using them
to wipe out humanity. The first book, written and published in the
U.K. in 2003, has sold more than 2.8 million copies worldwide in 32
languages. Subsequent titles--from books on tracking and taming
dragons to a code-writing kit--have brought the total sales for all
Dragonology titles to 5.7 million, according to its publisher. Templar
recently signed a licensing agreement with video-game producer
Codemasters, which will adapt Dragonology into games for Nintendo's
Wii and DS platforms. Hartman most recently wrote the script for
Universal's Fury, which is in development, and the short film Gray
Matter.

CENTRAL PARK FANTASY
Variety reports that Warner Bros. has picked up an untitled pitch for
a fantasy set in Central Park. Bryan Schulz and Neil Uliano are
planned to write the script. The story follows two brothers who, while
visiting their grandfather in Gotham, meet a man who shows them a
mystical realm in Central Park that is in danger. The idea for the
fantasy was hatched by WB senior veep Jon Berg. WB and Lin have
already laid the groundwork for the project by aligning with the
Central Park Conservancy, which cares for the park, but no production
date has been set.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS
A new trailer has popped up online for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the
new CGI series pilot that will continue later into a new series on TNT
and the Cartoon Network in the fall. The first segment of the series
will be hitting theaters on August 15 courtesy of Warner Bros. and
Lucasfilm. Director David Filoni is leading the project, based on a
screenplay by Henry Gilroy.
Plot Summary:
On the front lines of an intergalactic struggle between good and evil,
fans young and old will join such favorite characters as Anakin
Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with brand-new
heroes like Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. Sinister villains – led
by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule
the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the "Star Wars" universe
rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to
the action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations that fill
"Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, "Star
Wars: The Clone Wars" takes audiences on incredible new "Star Wars"
adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with an
eye-popping, signature animation style. The theatrical debut of "Star
Wars: The Clone Wars" is only the beginning of all-new "Star Wars"
adventures that continue in the fall when the long-awaited television
series premieres on Cartoon Network, followed by airings on TNT.

I guess that is about it for now. Please visit the website
(http://www.isnnews.net). We have been having some problems lately,
but hopefully that will be ironed out soon.

If you have information you would like to have posted, drop me a line.
I love getting ranger reports about books you've read; movies you've
seen, etc. Other readers will be interested as well.
Have a great weekend.

Take care.
