THE ZOCALO TODAY – September 1, 2007

I want to first greet all the new readers of THE ZOCALO TODAY. If you
read on the internet or just this newsletter, WELCOME and Thank You. If you see
information that should be posted here, please send it along so that we can
share it with your fellow readers.
Now let's see what's new!

BABYLON 5 SCRIPTS: VOLUME 12 IS AVAILABLE TO ORDER
IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE SCRIPTS TEAM

Last week we got a "midnight memo" from JMS. We've cut and pasted it
below so that you can see it.

What he told us is that he discovered a box of B5 goodies that have
been packed away for over 13 years, from when he was shooting the B5
pilot.

We don't want to spoil the surprise so we aren't going to give details
here, except to say he asked us to stop the presses and re-do volume
12 so that everyone can see what he found right away.

The Stop-the-Presses edition Volume 12 will start shipping September
18. Your credit card will be authorized but it will not be charged
until it ships.

To celebrate this new-found material, we are going to keep the debut
discount price of $10 off the $39.99 in place until September 18th.
But if you want to get your book as soon as it's ready, order now.
The first orders in are the first orders to ship out.

THE SCRIPTS IN VOLUME 12 ARE:
• A View from the Gallery
• Learning Curve
• Strange Relations
• Secrets of the Soul
• In the Kingdom of the Blind
• A Tragedy of Telepaths
• Phoenix Rising

P.S. Even though Cafepress will only authorize your card and not
charge it until your volume 12 actually ships, please note that a few
banks and credit card companies place funds on hold from
authorizations until the charge clears.

THE MIDNIGHT MEMO
Date: Tuesday, August 21 2007
TO: Scripts Team

FROM: JMS
SUBJECT: Stop The Presses
I realize that you guys are busy prepping the release of volume 12 but
when you've heard what I discovered you'll understand why we have to
stop this run and start another. It's worth it.

Last night I discovered a box of archives that no one (including me)
has seen in more than 13 years...B5 material I thought had been lost
ages ago...material from the very first stages of creating B5...photos
from behind the scenes in the lead-up to shooting...artwork on station
IDs...signage and ranks that were not used....

Since volumes 13 and 14 are already packed to the gills, volume 12 is
the only place for them. The fans have got to see this stuff. You'll
have the scans in a few days.

I realize this means that we have to redo volume 12 from scratch but
it's definitely worth it.

event. Here is Pat's note to those who want to be involved:

Dear Friends,
SAVE THE DATE!

Sunday September 23rd is the big event in Griffith Park from 11-4pm.
It's a really fun day with lots of things to do. Jane Goodall will
speak along with many others. There are bands and a parade of Peace
Doves. There are animals from various activist groups who help them.
It's a great event for families. Please invite any one you can think

BABYLON PODCAST #79
Posted 2007-08-29 12:30 am in Shows by Summer

Welcome to Show #79!
Tim is back, and Jeffrey is Kentucky, and Summer is always here.
Jeffrey's wrangled up some "Lost Tales" fan related interviews for us!
Also stay tuned for more video content as part of the Lost
Tales-apalooza month long (or longer) fest.

Interview 1: Adam Francis, production assistant during Season 2, joins
us to tell us about how long his fan interest in Babylon 5 extends
back, some of the running around he did during his tenure on the show,
seeing and talking with the cast and crew he worked with after so much
time, and more.

Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 10: "The Storm" (TS:
24:01-28:30) What you're hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a
small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices
of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Go over and check them out!
Interview 2: Acclaimed conceptual artist Tim Earls rejoins us to give
us some of the work he did for "The Lost Tales", mostly storyboarding
for all the scenes and visual effects. He also talks about some of the
updates that went into set and ship design, and how some of his
changes were incorporated into the finished product. Will we ever see
the CG-intensive Garibaldi-focused story that Tim laid out?
Tim's currently the set designer for the new fall show, "Pushing
Daisies", and is working on a still-secret new Serenity project for
Quantum Mechanix

Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer conclude the geeking for the first
episode, "Over Here". We talk about the possible implications of
Lochley's theory and solution to the problem of what to do with Simon
Burke… what could humanity do without the threat of devils and demons
to haunt their dreams, and without a need for the Church amongst the
stars? Will ancient evil be left behind when the cradle of humanity
vanishes into dust when Sol goes nova? Will new battles be waged for
the souls of all races, not just humanity, out beyond our galaxy?
And how do we know that all of this couldn't have been investigated by
a telepath? Lochley used to have a good relationship with Bester… did
what happened during the Telepath War change her willingness to use a
telepath first, or did her upbringing cause her to lean towards
something in her comfort zone?

THE DRESDEN FILES
For all of you who missed this wonderful series while it was on SciFi,
you now have a chance to watch it on DVD.

Series: The Dresden Files was originally a series of novels (Storm
Front, Fool Moon, Grave Peril, Summer Knight, Death Masks, Blood
Rites, Dead Beat, Proven Guilty, and White Night) by author Jim
Butcher. The novels detail a wizard for hire in Chicago that solves
crimes as a private detective with a dark past, using his special
abilities to stumble into answers while avoiding the fate of his
gifted relatives, most of whom met their untimely demise thanks to
various schemes. The basic story of the television show is this; Harry
is haunted by a past that includes using dark magic to slay his uncle,
a powerful wizard with ambitious goals. He has a small shop in a
slightly seedy part of town, accessible to people of lesser means as
well as a police Lt that has caught his eye named Connie Murphy. She
is the hardnosed daughter of a tough city cop, picking up where he
left off and it is made clear that while she doesn't understand "how"
Harry helps her cases, she considers him an invaluable resource for
doing so, despite his unorthodox methods that cause her colleagues to
laugh at her behind her back.

There are a few extras included that are of interest. The 18:11 minute
long feature called Inside the Dresden Files has Robert Hewitt Wolfe
take the lead as clips played, with a few of the other production crew
given the nod as well while they described the process of making the show.

SUPERNATURAL – SEASON TWO
Release Date: September 11, 2007

Synopsis: Twenty-two years ago, Sam (series star JARED PADALECKI) and
Dean (series star JENSEN ACKLES) Winchester lost their mother to a
mysterious and demonic supernatural force. As a result, their father,
John (recurring guest star JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN - "Grey's Anatomy"),
raised the brothers to be soldiers. He taught them about the
paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads
of America...and he taught them how to kill it. Sam, however, wanted
nothing to do with this violent and dangerous life, and he left it
behind, until the day Dean appeared on his doorstep with troubling
news. Their father had gone missing on a "hunting trip." Sam and Dean
have spent the last year cruising the highways of the United States in
their 1967 Chevy Impala, searching for their lost father and
encountering creatures that most people believe exist only in
folklore, superstition and nightmares. Along the way, they have
battled the various supernatural threats--and each other as well, for
their sibling rivalries and conflicts were never far from the surface.
Finally, they found their father, just as he was closing in on the
Demon who claimed their mother.

This DVD is loaded with special features, including audio commentary,
deleted scenes, a featurette - 1) The Episode From Hell: The Making of
All Hell Breaks Loose Part II 2) The Devil's Road Map - urban legends
featurettes, factoids, and more pertaining to each episode of the
series 3) Gag Reel and Jared Original Screen Test.

DVD SPECIAL FEATURES
" Green Arrow: The History of the Emerald Archer" -Since the early

respect. Once seen as the poor man's Batman, he later evolved into a
nuanced character which has rivaled some of the best superheroes in
the industry. This retrospective will feature the interviews of those
living legends that were fortunate enough to have written or inked
this character through the years. Traced will be the lineage from his
opulent roots, to the new story line featured in Smallville.
" "Smallville: The Ultimate Fans" -Superman can rival any franchise,
and this documentary is set on showing just how powerful the forces
are behind the almost epic fandom associated with this title. DVD
feature shows the results of an online search, which was conducted
recently to locate the "Ultimate Smallville Fan". Even more detailed
will be the legacy which this show is building upon daily both at
conventions, and websites being hosted around the world. A global
phenomenon, this featurette will examine the craze and justify for the
fans why they should be proud to be associated with Kal-El (aka
Superman!).
" "The Oliver Queen Chronicles" - These animated mobisodes made their
debut on the extra small screen of a cell phone. For the first time
they can now become a part of the Smallville fan's library. Tracing
the origin story of Green Arrow through animation, the end user is
treated to a refreshing take on how Oliver Queen made his
transformation to the Emerald Archer.
" "The Making of The Oliver Queen Chronicles" - A retrospective
glimpse into what was involved from concept to completion with the
Green Arrow mobisodes.
" "Smallville Content Wraps" - In between the sixth season's episodes,
the audience was treated to a continuation of the story line through

original works by DC Comics.
