The Zocalo Today - Special Update   Message List

Hi everyone. I am currently in Vienna, Austria teaching some classes
and am not able to update the website. I will be back home on
Saturday so I should be updating the website on Sunday or Monday for
sure.

I wouldn't post a note just to tell you that, however. I got a note
from a reader asking about all the special auctions for Richard Biggs
and the upcoming event on March 19. They basically wanted to know
why these special events were needed -- since Rick was an actor that
was on the tube and being seen in various projects. They asked if I
could validate the efforts in some way.

I didn't quite know how to approach someone -- so I asked Stephen
Austin, long time buddy of mine and Rick and also one of th sweetest
guys I know. He was for years the Pak'Ma'Ra Ambassador on Babylon
5. Anyway, I asked him how I might respond to the query. Stephen's
response is below.
+++++++++

First, yes, by any definition, Rick was a successful actor. He did
work "regularly" and was paid accordingly. One of the biggest myths
about "Hollywood" is that all so-called "working" actors are paid
huge amounts of money. Not so.

Rick's passing was tantamount to someone leaving for work one morning
and getting hit by a car. It was very sudden and very unexpected. The
idea that someone who was as young, healthy and vibrant as Rick could
just up and die was unthinkable. This should be a lesson to all of us.

The thing Rick wanted most was for his boys to be able to go to
college. Helping to make Rick's wish for his sons become a reality is
what these efforts are all about.

The event taking place on the 19th (www.richardbiggs.com) is with the
personal involvement of Lori (Rick's wife) and the Biggs Family.
Please believe that the actors who are associated with this event are
a savvy lot. There's too much experience here to align ourselves with
something that wasn't what it was supposed to be.

A rumor, on a certain website, started last month that maybe this
wasn't a family supported event. In response, Rick's wife, Lori,
published a letter addressing this very issue. It was as follows:

"I want to address a rumor that apparently has been circulating on
your site. I am Richard Biggs' wife and I do have full knowledge and
fully endorse the benefit on March 19th at the Beverly Garland. This
is the only benefit that is going on where all proceeds will go to RJ
and Hunter. I don't know how this rumor got started but it's
completely false and will only hurt us if it continues. I would love
to see everyone there. All of the actors pictured and listed on the
newest flyer are confirmed as attending. If there are any questions
my email address is on the flyer, blkcat1067@....

Thank you,
Lori Biggs"

Lori also sent me the following:

"The only things that also need to be said is that the only
fundraisers that I have knowledge of are Jan Schroeder's online
auction and Billy's (Mumy) auction along with the 19th. If there are
any other fundraisers please let us know."

++++++++++++++++++

So I am using this e-mail note as a way of validating the March 19
event and I hope that all who can attend will do so. This is quite a
line-up of Babylon 5 and other actors. It is their way of expressing
just how much Rick meant to them as a friend and associate.

Thanks for your time.
I hope you all have a great week ahead.
Talk to you soon,
Sandy
