I read this on another list (David McCallum Updates) and I thought I'd share
it. It's a quote from an article about NCIS -

Harmon credits the chemistry among the cast members for making the show
strong. He calls the "NCIS" team the most talented ensemble cast he has ever
worked with. This is coming from a guy who starred
on "St. Elsewhere" with the likes of William Daniels, Howie Mandel and
Denzel Washington.

One of his co-stars, David McCallum, also brings a long list of acting
credits to the role. Before this series, McCallum was best known for his role
of
Illya Kuryakin on the series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."

The first meeting with McCallum was exciting for Harmon because he was a fan
of the '60s spy show.

"I told him I can't imagine I am shaking Illya Kuryakin's hand. McCallum
says, 'Good God man, that was 41 years ago.' And then he walked away from me,"
Harmon says with a smile.

That's our Illya Kuryakin for you!

Hi everyone.
If you want, VOTE FOR THE MAN FROM UNCLE as this note came from the voting
site:
_http://richlabonte.http://rich_ (http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/)

The site will be ending in a few months so lets boost the tally on MFU!!!
Remember when we used to be in the top ten...how about getting at least back to
the top twenty?

This is the note that Rich of the voting site sent out today:

Since 2001, TV_Vote has collected well over 8 MILLION valid votes in
our quest to find The 5 Best TV Shows of All Time. Seven years is a
long run for anything – job, TV series, web site even – and it’s time
to start thinking about closure.

10 MILLION sounds like a nice number for the history books, and we
have made history here, of a sort, so I am thinking of closing the
TV_Vote polls when the total number of valid votes on the site hits 10
MILLION or by the morning of January 3, 2009, whichever comes first.
(January 2nd is a Thursday and we usually get pretty good numbers on
Thursdays.)

Total valid votes being the combined totals of the Top 40 and
Nomination Polls, BTW.

If votes keep coming in at current averages, we will hit 10 MILLION
valid votes in slightly over 100 days, but the Summer Doldrums are
about to begin and a lot of our regular voters vanish in the sun (and
not just the vamps either) so I expect numbers to begin to drop soon.
Traditionally, our numbers come back for a while in August and then
drop again until the “real” TV season begins in late September.

Of course, we are in the midst of Who Wants To Be President? here in
the USA so some of you might be inspired and rally new voters to your
respective shows and surprise me.

No problem. The TV_Vote Fan Power Hall of Fame has plenty of room for
new shows. Buffy and Farscape will be there before too long and after
the polls end the TV_Vote Fan Power Hall of Fame will remain online
for future generations of TV viewers to admire.

As we near our finale I also will offer you guys a chance to “sign”
the site for history – leave your name or handle behind in a permanent
list of voters.

(Historical or hysterical?)

Sound off now. I will post an official announcement on the site in a
couple of weeks.

In the closing, climatic scenes of "The Iowa Scuba Affair," isn't that

I don't seem him credited anywhere.

I hope I'm not becoming a martinet on the subject but---

While re-watching "The Finny Foot Affair," I couldn't help but notice
how eerily similar the opening sequences of that episode were to the
opening sequences of Michael Crichton's "The Andromeda Strain," what
with the decimated town and the haunting images of bodies struck down
in the course of normal activities.

First, I need to apologize for the delay in addressing the extras on
the DVD set. I work in a bookstore and the holidays werewell, hectic.

Anyway---

I finally got around to the extras on the first season DVDs and I can
say that even if the extras of the subsequent seasons DVDs are
completely un-watchable (which I doubt) the first season extras are
worth the price for any ardent UNCLE fan.

There are all sorts of background information, cleverly inter-cut
with clips from episodes.

I particularly enjoyed seeing all the original UNCLE writers and
directors and actors and others were still around, a bit older (as we
all are) but still with us.

Now, if I can just find an UNCLE Special P-38 and a THRUSH rifle.

Oh---and a cigarette case communicator, as well.

You make some good points, I always felt UNCLE was more then just a TV
show. In so many ways it was ahead of it's time.

While enjoying the DVD collection, it occurred to me there was a bit of
foreshadowing in these early 60s stories---something to point to the
pop culture of later decades.

For instance, "The Deadly Games Affair" might well have served as a
template for "The Boys From Brazil," with the central theme of a newly
arisen Hitler.

Similarly, "The Yellow Scarf Affair" introduced us to the Thugee cult,
later seen in the second Indiana Jones film.

Did anyone notice any other foreshadowing in these episodes?

Well, I got the DVD set a couple of days ago and so far am very pleased.

I'm afraid I haven't had time to explore the bonus material yet but the

quality of the episodes is fantastic. It's as if the last 40 years

simply melted away and it's 1964 again.

By the wayin the episode "The Mad, Mad Tea Party Affair," isn't that

rooftop laser one of the laser rifles from "Forbidden Planet," turned

upside down?

I digressI recommend this to UNCLE fans. The price may seem

prohibitive at first blush but if you break it down, it's less than $7

per disc and that includes a couple of feature length films.

It all comes in a neat little attach case with a very evocative photo

of Del Floria's on the inside lid.

In the made for tv film, Justin Sephrarin makes a direct reference to this when
he says the
only thrush he has ever heard of is of the genus teridae ( thrush).

Its a quick reference and kind of cute

I am not at home but at least 2 sites are selling the entire series on dvd for
about $ 175.

Don't know how they are getting away with it if Warner's owns the rights...

Here is a story from the Akron, Ohio newspaper about why the North
American DVD's were not released last summer.

"Hustling UNCLE. The AMC series Hustle is back with new episodes at
10 tonight

By Rich Heldenfels

Hustling UNCLE. The AMC series Hustle is back with new episodes at 10
tonight. But for older TV fans, series star Robert Vaughn has other
news: Sixties spy drama The Man From U.N.C.L.E. should be on DVD by
the end of 2007.

Vaughn, who played Napoleon Solo on the series, and NCIS's David
McCallum, who played Ilya Kuryakin, will be getting together in May
to do some DVD extras, Vaughn told me recently.

Vaughn had expected the show to be available sooner.

``Last year I sat down for three or four hours, doing material to go
with a DVD of the first year,'' he said. ``I finished, they paid me --
and somehow they didn't have the rights to it.''

Vaughn Continued. Anchor Bay thought it had the rights, Warner Home
Video said it had them, and Warner ultimately prevailed. Since Vaughn
had done his previous DVD work for Anchor Bay, he said he's going to
have to revisit the territory now for Warner.

But he's looking forward to being with McCallum this time around. And
while he's happy that they're both working, he's amused by the
reversals in their current jobs. Scotland-born McCallum is in a U.S.
series; American Vaughn's show is done mainly in England."

I learned a new word today and I thought it would be appropriate to share it:

turdiform (TUR-di-form) adjective

Like a thrush (any of the songbirds of the family Turdidae).

The villian slithered through the shadows with turdiform guile! But his
murderous trek was cut short by the valiant efforts of UNCLE's finest!
