Sunday night 27 July 2008
it seemed Andrew giving me trouble
he shouted at me when you got lost
driving your car near my home
was that meant to be a joke ?
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to lunch on Sunday. I will be at my youngest sons footy game. I do hope that at some stage I will be able to meet you all.

Hi all,
Please excuse the cross-posting here, but I thought that since this thread
refers to Doctor Who and Star Wars as well as asking about our basic human
morality I thought it'd be worthy of mentioning on these groups. :-)

That's true. But never underestimate the power of such beings. Hitler was
a very skillful orator who knew how to press people's buttons to believe in
him, and then when he floated out all these crazy ideas about Jews everyone
went along with it without questioning him. Those who did were executed. I
believe that tolerating injustice is a form of injustice itself.

The thing is though you also have to take a close look at Luke Skywalker and
Doctor Who's characters as well. Luke Skywalker tended to be an angry and
impatient young man at times, and that was certainly shown in Return Of The
Jedi when he fought Darth Vader in a lightsabre battle and chopped off his
hand just as had been done to him in the Empire Strikes Back. It was only
in the last 20 minutes of Return of the Jedi where he refuses to kill Darth
Vader that causes the Emporer to try and kill him and then Darth Vader turns
the tables and saves Luke from being destroyed by killing the Emporer
himself.
I don't know how familiar you are with the history of Doctor Who (I've been
a fan of it since as long as I can remember), but I can tell you that the
Doctor had flaws as well which Davros attempted to use against him. The 4th
Doctor refused to destroy the Daleks in the first story with Davros because
he believed that 'out of the evil some good could eventuate' - a prophecy
that's still waiting to be fulfilled today. The 5th Doctor refused to kill
Davros in the Resurrection of the Daleks story, but he gunned down his robot
companion Kamelion in the subsequent story with the Master's tissue
compression eliminator. The 6th Doctor also wanted his companion Peri to be
shot instead of him in his debut story. The 7th Doctor destroyed the
Dalek's mothership after provoking Davros enough to release the Hand Of
Omega. In the last Dalek story "Journey's End" from the new series, the
10th Doctor is probed by Davros by having his companions see people who have
given up their lives to save his own.

There are *certain* people that I hate for good reason, and given enough
incentive I definitely confront them about their behaviour or actions. I
had one guy in the naturist movement tell me a number of years ago when
seeking revenge against child molesters "Beware of slaying the dragon lest
you become it yourself". I don't understand the logic in this - does this
mean that we have to tolerate evil people and not do what we can to stop
them from perpetuating their unacceptable behaviours?
As usual you get the wrong end of the stick and beat people about with it.
Andrew and myself were just sharing a joke and we were definitely not giving you any trouble at all. I was not impressed with the way you threatened him with violence the next day during our conversation on MSN. If you ever behave like that again online then I will save the transcripts and report them to the police and to your email service provider. And I didn't like the way you went trolling my facebook page and leaving inflammatory remarks on Andrew's myspace page. Grow up, and get a life!
You have a LOT to work on regarding your social graces and social interaction. You made no effort whatsoever to go out of your way to mix with the others at the meeting, and even had the guile to walk off somewhere on your own without even telling myself or the host Kelli where you were going.
For someone who is turning 34 in December, your behaviour leaves a lot to be desired. It's time that you learned to accept responsiblity for your disability and get some professional medical help from either Dr. Attwood or somebody else.
As it is, you've got life too easy at home where you're spending all your time playing with computer games and watching naturist DVDs. There's more to life than that, and it's high time that you got out into the world and made something of your life.
Learn to play your cards right, and your life will take a turn for the better.

Hello all,
I'd like to welcome aboard new members to this group, and hope you
enjoy what it has to offer and what you can offer to it.
Could I please ask everyone to fill out their Yahoo! profiles with
their name, age, location and interests so we can get an idea of who
you are?
Added to that, it has been known that Yahoo! have shut down groups
where there have been members with blank profiles (it happened to quite
a number of them that I moderated last year).
Hi all,
I must say that I was extremely impressed with a good turnout today
at Jo-Jo's, and even more surprised that the girls outnumbered the
guys too!
We enjoyed a nice lunch - I had bbq'd salmon with salad and chips and
a (non-alcoholic) piece of nougat for dessert.
As most of the participants tend to be fairly new to the series, I am
looking to use my place for a screening of the original 'classic'
series starting with William Hartnell, and gradually working through
to the Sylvester McCoy era so you all know the origins of the show.
I live in Banyo which is on Brisbane's northside about 20 minutes
from the city. As my family is going to be away next month for the
Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I will have more time to be able to do my
own thing without them getting in the way.
Let me know what you reckon, and I'll sort out a date!

The actress Elizabeth Spriggs, who guest starred as Tabby in the 1987 Seventh Doctor serial Paradise Towers, has died at the age of 78. She appeared in many roles on stage and television for over fifty years, including performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Spriggs was particularly well-known for her role as Nan in "Shine On Harvey Moon", and was well-loved by children for her starring role in the 1980s Children's BBC series "Simon and the Witch".
I'll be there. Like your idea of looking for "Who" memorabilia.

Hi,
Who's going to the lunch in town next Sunday? I'm gonna go along, should be good. Plus I'm paid this week so I want to go and get a bit of "Who" memorabilia.

Thanks to Steve for organising such a fantastic meeting.
I thoroughly enjoyed the showings and I thought the library couldn't have timed its announcement with that part of the Silurians any more perfectly for us if they had tried!
There was so much I had forgotten about the Time Meddler that it was a pleasure to revisit it. In my opinion, it was William Hartnell at his best.
I always enjoy the Five Doctors and I also was very interested in the interviews with the cast and crew shown before the features began. Very enlightening.
I look forward to the next meeting in May.

Hi all,
I couldn't stay for the whole meeting, but I did enjoy myself at it a lot today.
We had a screening of the final part of The Silurians, the whole story of The Time Meddler, and the celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Five Doctors.
The Time Meddler was the first ever story to see the Doctor plotted against a fellow Time Lord (in this case a mischievous time meddler in the guise of a Benedictine Monk played by comedian Peter Butterworth) , although they were not yet identified as Time Lords.
The Five Doctors was also good to see again after nearly 10 years when I won the VCR set from Frazer Hines in a raffle back in 1999.
We had one really classic moment during the last few moments of the Silurians episode when their base was being destroyed by UNIT, and their heads were shaking comically when an announcement came over the Intercom blaring "Now kids, it's storytime group for you all! We are starting the meeting at Room XX at 11 a.m." and when it switched off the next thing we heard from the story was Jon Pertwee muttering "oooh, a slight technical hitch there!" I nearly pissed myself from laughing so much.
Oh btw, for those of you who don't know who I am - I was the tall dark guy with black hair and glasses who left in the middle of the Five Doctors story. ;-)
If there's also any members who are interested in recording fan fiction to sell as audio CDs, I'm looking to learn how to use the recording software Cakewalk Pro Audio and Sound Forge 4.5 to do so - I'm also a musician too and want to record my own home demos this way.
Looking forward to the next meet-up for Steve's screening and the BDWFC alike.
Best wishes,
Dario Western

Hi all,
I have noticed that the number of postings to this group has gone
down alarmingly since January of this year and nobody seems to be
contributing to it.
Could it be the messages having to be approved having something to do
with it? We were getting between 83 - 88 postings over the Christmas
period, and only 1 for this month.
With the exception of a few other groups I'm on with the same
policies, I've noticed that in groups whereby the moderators approve
all messages first there is little to no interest from other
members.
What do you all think? Should we change the settings to allow all
members to post freely?
Best wishes,
Dario Western

Welcome to this special edition of This Week In Doctor Who. This Week
In Doctor Who and Torchwood This Week will not be published on the
16th of February, as I will be at the Gallifrey One convention in Los
Angeles, CA http://www.gallifreyone.com/gallifrey.php that weekend.
Hopefully the hybrid versions of the columns coming out today will
help tide everybody over till regular service resumes on the 23rd. And
if you are going to Gallifrey, see you there.
Germany - ProSieben (Pro7) http://www.prosieben.de is cancelling
Doctor Who after tonight's (9 February) episodes - 3 weeks (6
episodes) into the run. The ratings were lower than ProSieben had
anticipated. Our sympathies to the German Doctor Who audience, who
have been waiting for years for ProSieben to begin the Series 1 and 2
package they purchased (I think they bought back in 2005 - I'd have to
check my archives). German language DVDs will come out this year as
previously planned. ProSieben could still air the episodes in another
time slot down the road.
South Africa - SABC2 http://www.sabc2.co.za/portal/site/sabc2 is
slipping The Sarah Jane Adventures on the air starting today (9
February). The half hour episodes air at 3:30PM CAT Saturdays. I do
not know if Invasion Of The Bane aired. This is the first time I have
heard of any Doctor Who show airing on South African TV (though BBC
Prime is available in South Africa and is rerunning Series 1 now).
Hong Kong - ATV World http://www.hkatv.com/world/05 is finally
starting Series 3 of Doctor Who - Thursdays at 10PM from 14 February,
taking Torchwood's time slot. At 10PM each week will be an installment
of The Infinite Quest, the serialized animated Doctor Who story from
2007. This is The Infinite Quest's first airing outside the UK. The
regular episodes air at 10:03PM. The website makes it unclear if they
will start with The Runaway Bride or Smith And Jones.
USA - SciFi US http://www.scifi.com confirmed this week that they are
buying both Series 4 of Doctor Who and Series 1 of The Sarah Jane
Adventures. Both shows will start in April. In the case of Doctor Who
it means that US viewers will be just weeks behind the UK (exact dates
unknown in both countries). It is not clear yet how The Sarah Jane
Adventures (one 60 minute episode, ten 25 to 28 minute episodes) will
be presented on SciFi.
UK - UKTV Drama is dropping the weekday (12:20PM and 5PM) airings of
the Tom Baker episodes. Last one is 15 February (The Brain Of Morbius
pt 3). The episodes continue on Saturday night and Sunday morning
uninterrupted. UKTV Gold is adding a weekday run of new Who (5PM and
6PM starting 18 February).
The US Public TV schedule information is in Section B. New development
this week involving The Christmas Invasion.
Torchwood schedule information is included in the Torchwood This Week

Series 1 and 2, in case they want to burn off the leftover 21 episodes
in late night down the road. At this point, here's hoping the German
DVDs sell well.

Episode four of Torchwood, Meat, scored an Appreciation Index figure
of 85, once again putting it in the excellent category. It was the
BBC's second highest figure for the day.
The edited repeat was watched by 1.0 million viewers, according to
overnight figures, a 4.9% share of the total audience. Torchwood
Declassified got 1.2 million viewers a 5.5% share These figures are
slightly higher than the actual overnights as they include Scotland
and Northern Ireland where Torchwood was not shown.
The British Board of Film Classification today passed more than 32
minutes of extra features for the release of the six-part Fourth
Doctor story The Invasion of Time, giving them a U rating.
Among them are five deleted scenes: one from episode five and four
from episode six.
There will also be two mini-documentaries: The Elusive David Agnew and
The Rise and Fall of Gallifrey.
'David Agnew' was a pseudonym for producer Graham Williams and script
editorAnthony Read.
This site reported last month that a release of The Invasion of Time
was in the pipeline. A date for it has yet to be announced.
Further information about the DVD extras of the forthcoming release of
The Brain of Morbius has today been revealed on the BBFC website.
Along with a documentary, "Getting a Head", and features such as
"Designs on Karn", "A Letter to Robert Holmes" and "Set Tour", the
disc contains a trailer for the forthcoming releases of 1977's The
Invisible Enemy - which saw the first appearance of the robot dog K9
in Doctor Who - and the 1981 spin-off K9 and Company, which stars
Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith.
It is not yet clear whether or not this joint trailer indicates that
the two stories will be released together in a double pack.
Unofficial overnight figures give Episode Four, Meat, an audience of
2.9 million viewers, which was a 11.2% share of the total television
audience.
The programme was again the highest rated on BBC2 for the day, ahead
of The Weakest Link which got 2.6 million viewers.
The programme is repeated in an edited version on BBC2 in England and
Wales on Thursday evening. It is available to UK viewers for the next
seven days via the BBC iPlayer.
Fans are treated to a Torchwood double bill next Wednesday with
Episode Five, Adam being shown on BBC2 at 9pm, and Episode 6, Reset
making its debut on BBC3 at 9.50pm.
David Tennant reveals some of his forthcoming work schedule in the
February 9-15 edition of Radio Times. In a feature about the listings
magazine's annual party for its cover stars, he says he will have all
of May off and start rehearsing Hamlet for the RSC in June. (NB:
Tennant is also appearing in Love's Labour's Lost in October and
November, although he doesn't make reference to that in the feature.)
He appears in Hamlet from July until January 9, 2009 and says he will
be back in Cardiff on January 10 to commence next year's Doctor Who
specials, adding: "After that, I really don't know. Nothing has been
decided . . . honestly!"
Tennant, Freema Agyeman and John Simm are all pictured at the bash.
Sophie Aldred was interviewed by BBC Norfolk while making a guest
appearance in the area.
In the lengthy feature, she tells how she tried - unsuccessfully - to
persuade Christopher Eccleston to attend conventions. The interview is
also in three parts in an audio format. In addition, it includes video
interviews with Terry Molloy and Elisabeth Sladen, as they are
referred to in the piece, although these may not be playable by
overseas visitors to the BBC site.
Meanwhile BBC SouthEast has broadcast an interview with Tommy Knight
who plays Luke in the Sarah Jane Adventures.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3662494.stm
Radio Times also reveals that the February 15 edition of EastEnders
will feature the storyline in which the characters Stacey and Bradley
visit a Doctor Who exhibition in London. The location filming for this
was reported by this site in December. (Information elsewhere suggests
that the February 14 edition may also include this storyline.)
The teaser for the following week's Radio Times states that the
character Martha Jones joins the Torchwood team then, making February
20 the date of her small-screen arrival at the Hub.
The February 13 edition of Late Junction on BBC Radio 3, to be
broadcast from 11.15pm to 1am, will include music from the BBC
Radiophonic Workshop and is believed to be a feature about 50 years of
the workshop, including its realisation of the Doctor Who theme.
