hi, i just joined.  i've been spending so much time defending Lex's
strategy and decisions in S8 (and S3 over the last couple of years) that
i thought, duh, i should look for a Lex fan group and see if my opinions
hold any water.  Lex is my all-time favorite player from any season of
any RGS; he's a terrific and fierce competitor, but is also a nice guy.

anyway, this is a non-traditional intro post, but here's a long one i
posted this morning to another group where i analyzed Lex's decision to
boot Colby and Ethan (analysis of Jerri over Amber came earlier).  i'm
also looking for more hard facts on the game and Lex's involvement in it.

ok, time to look back at all the IC's (no need to bother with RC's) and
try to see if Mogo Mogo really would have been better off with Colby and
Ethan.

Chapera was first, MM second, Saboga a distant third.
my MVP choices: Lex, RobM, Tom.

S2 IC: Float Your Boat
MM players: Richard, Colby, Lex, JennaM, Kathy (Shii Ann sat).
Chapera was first by a mile, MM second, Saboga a fairly distant third.
my MVP choices: Tom, RobM, Richard, Rupert.

S3 IC: none

S4 IC: Blind Leading The Blind
MM players: Richard (guide), Lex, Kathy, Colby (Shii Ann sat).
Saboga was first, MM 2nd, Chapera 3rd (couldn't do the puzzle).
my MVPs: Jerri, then Lex and Alicia.

S5 IC: Pilfering Pirates
MM players: Richard, Shii Ann, Ethan, Lex, Jerri, Kathy, Colby.
Chapera won, MM lost.
MVP: RobM by a mile, then Tom and Amber.
*** TC: Richard voted out; led by Colby.
(Probst reported that he made an error in this challenge when RobM and
Ethan fell in the water, and he called RobM the winner.  videotape
showed him afterwards that RobM actually hit the water first.  i don't
think this cost MM the entire challenge, since it was one point out of
20, but a handful of people reported differently.)

S6 IC: none

S7 IC: Floating Puzzle
MM players: Jerri, Shii Ann, Colby, Kathy, Ethan, Lex.
Chapera won, MM lost.
MVP: RobM.
*** TC: Colby voted out; led by Lex.
(MM had a small lead when Ethan and RobM raced into the jungle and back;
RobM passed Ethan; Ethan was "goat.")

S8 IC: Choose Your Weapon
MM players: Jerri, Shii Ann, Kathy, Ethan, Lex.
MVP: they all sucked.
*** TC: Ethan voted out; led by Lex.

S9 IC: Survivor History
Chapera players: Lex, Jerri, Shii Ann, Kathy, Amber.
MVP: too hard to tell.  the only missed questions were "butok" by
Chapera (JennaL knew it because she was on S1), "Nairobi" by Mogo Mogo
(how could Tom not know what country he played in?), and "Nicole Delma"
by Chapera (Mogo Mogo knew it because Rupert was on S7).
*** TC: Jerri voted out; led by Lex/Kathy.

whew!

first note: neither Colby nor Ethan did particularly well in any IC.
they may have done better than the women, but Lex was Mogo Mogo's best
challenge player.

next, take a look at the possible effect of not having Colby in S8 & S9,
and Ethan in S9.  i know it's not certain that the challenges would have
been the same.  neither was physical.  S8 was dexterity, and S9 was
mental.  if MM had Colby instead of Jerri for S8, and Colby and Ethan
instead of Shii Ann and Jerri for S9, would those ICs have been more
physical?  there's no way to know.

so i'll assume the challenges would have been the same.

in S8's Choose Your Weapon, everyone sucked.  would Colby have helped?
unless he's an archer, i don't see how.  having Colby instead of Jerri
in the blowgun round would have hurt them, as Jerri was the only player
to hit the target.  but Jerri couldn't have done the final round, where
she was chosen to be the archer because she had the most experience.
was Jerri the proper choice for MM to be archer?  of course, if she had
the most experience.  i can't see any way that having Colby instead of
Jerri would have helped MM, *unless* Colby is an archer.

S9's Survivor History came down to the luck of the draw of the
questions.  Chapera (Lex's tribe now) missed two questions that Mogo
Mogo got correct because they happened to have a representative from the
question's season.  there's no way to say that having Colby and Ethan
instead of Jerri and Shii Ann would've helped Chapera win this one, and
that's an easy call.  in fact, Shii Ann was (or seemed to be) the leader
of Chapera in this one.

conclusion: there's simply no way of knowing if having Colby and Ethan
(instead of Jerri and Shii Ann) would have helped Lex's tribe win the S8
& S9 ICs.  the available evidence shows that Lex's tribe was actually
stronger for these two specific challenges with Jerri and Shii Ann than
they would've been with Colby and Ethan.  and all available evidence
shows that Lex's tribe would still have lost both challenges.

the argument that Lex's boots of Colby and Ethan was a bad move is
ridiculous, *when the actual facts are examined closely.*  on the
surface, sure it looks like Colby and Ethan would have been better
challenge players than Shii Ann and Jerri.  but *not* under close,
factual inspection.

Lex made his boot decisions based on who he (and Kathy) could
trust/manipulate more easily, and also based on getting rid of strong
players, which has always been a good strategy.  both Jerri and Shii Ann
are obviously more manipulable than Colby and Ethan, as Jerri was in
Lex's pocket, and Shii Ann in Kathy's.

Lex (and Kathy) played the best game he possibly could.  Chapera got the
edge over his tribe for three reasons:
- RobM is a tremendous challenge player, and he was on Chapera, and
- simple bad luck, especially with the S9 questions; but the crucial
Choose Your Weapon challenge turned out to be mostly luck also.
- when Saboga was dissolved, Mogo Mogo should've used their first pick
on Rupert instead of Ethan.  picking a player with the express purpose
of booting him is dumb, and Rupert outplayed Ethan in the ICs both
participated in.  this appeared to be Colby's decision, though neither
Lex or Kathy put up much of a fight.

to bring up another player, i think keeping *Richard*, and voting out
Jerri or perhaps Shii Ann, would have been a better move, if only
because it would have made MM stronger for S7's Floating Puzzle
challenge.  Richard's boot was another Colby decision.

after doing all this research, something seems clear that i didn't
expect: the worst player on Mogo Mogo was Colby.  their demise is still
due more to bad luck and not having RobM, but if any of their players
are to blame, it's Colby.

final conclusion on Lex: based on all available evidence, there is
nothing he could have done differently that would have led him to the
final four.  this means he played a perfect game, strategy-wise.  he
made no decisions that can be called errors based on available evidence.
   it's *possible* that Colby is an archer, or that Ethan knew "butok"
and Nicole Delma, or that Tom would've shifted sides, but there is no
evidence to support any of those theories, and thus they can't be stated
as true, and anyone who says they are is just guessing.

To All My Dear Friends,

I don't know how many times I must apologies and ask you to help
me, again and again and again. I seriously don't know where I
should
begin to explain. It's ashamed me when I didn't email or
write to you
for nearly 3 months but suddenly this email has finally came into
your inbox and asking you for help. I guess you already knew (or I
should tell everybody here) that I truly loved our Survivor 3
contestant, Lex van den Berghe. I started to gather all the websites,
forums, pictures, interviews, reviews, events information; everything
that I could get - from the very beginning episode of Survivor
Africa. I became more aggressive when it came to episode 8, the
episode which has showed us Lex's shaky position. You already
knew the story; perhaps better that I am. I did surf internet almost
every day and sat down in front of my computer for nearly 6 to 12
hours non-stop! I still remember I sat and surfed from 6.00pm until
7.00am in the very next morning, just for one reason. I believe that
you can imagine how many files I have gathered from 24th November
2001 until 18th June 2002. It's about 7 months, multiply
approximately 6 hours per day.; 1, 302 documents but I knew I have
had about 2, 600 files already as far as I concern and remember - it
was the last number of files I've seen in my folders. I don't
have
the accurate or the latest number. Plus, all my files and emails in
my previous inbox, it was about 1, 000! Thinking of it, I will go
insane, friends. After all I said, guess what happened to my 3, 600
files recently?

Exactly one month ago, I was at home when my little sister told me
that our computer wasn't in good condition. So, she sent the CPU
to a computer technician and asked him to upgrade the windows with
the latest one, detect and repairs the CPU but unfortunately and
unexpectedly, the technician has taken a very tragic action by doing
reformatting even though she had told him that there were so many
important files and emails in the computer. I was SO mad the moment I
realized that I lost my files! I spoke to him on the phone, asked him
whether my sister forgot to inform him, or did not tell him about our
important documents, or did she ask him to make any back-up files, or
did he aware about the existence of our files or what? Guess what? He
told me that he absolutely aware about it but couldn't save it,
just
because the files were in so big amount. I asked him, why he
didn't
transfer or copy it into CDs. I said I would pay all the expenses (of
course I will pay, or else I wouldn't get my CPU back) but he
simply
said, he never thought that I would pay him for the cost of the CDs!
Bull****! Imagine that, after all my efforts, they all gone in a
second! I cried incessantly for 3 hours… even when I post this, I
can
feel the anger, the disappointment and the sadness inside of me…
I
was so upset since then. I swear to God, this is what happened to me
and I couldn't take it at first but when I think about my friends
and
they are surely very supportive and I could depend on them, I believe
I'll be able to accept it sooner or later.

So friends, could you please do me a favor. If I am not too
demanding, would you please provide me several articles, audio /
video interviews, pictures of Lex while in the show or Reunion or
anything else (which you think that I might don't have any
chances to
retrieve it back e.g. links has been expired, website has been
terminated / breakdown etc). Anything at all, dear. If you wish to do
so, please attach it all with your email to my email address at
za1@.... I'm begging all of you, friends. I knew
some of you maybe busy at this time but I hope you don't mind and
voluntarily want to help me. I sincerely need your help. Please God,
I hope you haven't deleted anything about Lex. If you did but
still have couples of it, I beg you to email it to me (even contained
a single word of LEX!) To those who hates Lex, you might don't
want
to help me. Maybe he acted to be cruel enough and it hurts you still
but at least I guarantee you will feel better if you give your hand
to help somebody like me, just like if you were in my shoe.
Otherwise, just think or assume that you are going to throw away and
vanish something useless to me, sigh!

Friends, hopefully all of you will comprehend my situation. I really
want to know and yet I'll understand if you have any problems
concerning to this matter. Please reply via email as soon as possible
or post it here. You knew that I'll always appreciate you (I say
ALL OF YOU) no matter what. I'll email or log in later. I'm

have a chance to perhaps meet with him, this weekend,

Even though our Mr. Lex didn’t win the USD1,
000,000.00 bucks, but he won over USD130, 000.00 overall ~
higher than what Kim J’s got in the 2nd placed / runner
up. He got USD85, 000.00 in cash and the avalanche
truck that cost USD45, 000.00 plus super - - duper
experiences (that money can’t buy) and still, he’s the
ultimate sole survivor of all time to me. But there is one
thing left in my mind is does he have any regrets for
leaving his great job as marketing manager?

I just loved their songs i.e. Sleep All Day and
Mistake right after the second I heard the MP3. I hope
they will make it through. Go LUCKY DOG!! Hem…let me
introduce them. They are our Mr. Lex van den Berghe (drums,
vocals), Mike Jennings (bass), Mike Donio (lead guitar),
John Barret (lead vocals, acoustic guitar) and Mrs.
Barret @ Kim (keyboards). Lovely band!!! <br>++Uma++

He was sick (diarrhea) and that’s why he didn’t
win the last immunity challenge. Kim J won the
necklace. Kim J though that she could not beat any one of
Lex nor Ethan. As we all though, Lex is vulnerable
because of his ‘sharp’ tongue and ever since Kelly got
her boot out (CBS has successfully made him as the
devil and the villain of the show) but in Kim J’s mind,
Lex would win the whole one million bucks because ~
<br>1) Lex never speaks and makes a bad comments
whenever he is in the tribe / with the other
members.<br>2) He mixed up, joined with and being nice to
everybody.<br>3) He is a hardcore player. He’s the strongest, has
a skill and leadership, talented, and motivated.
Jurors will think about these twice instead of choosing
and voting for Kim J who didn’t played the game
full-heartedly.<br>4) 4 votes are surely for Lex – Ethan, Tom, Brandon
and Teresa will vote for Lex. Others? Depends!! Why I
pick them? Because… Ethan and Tom were in the
alliance, Ethan wouldn’t vote Kim J as she kicked him out
and he’d ever told us that he felt that Kim J is an
out-comer of the alliance! Tom didn’t like Kim J that much
~ as we heard his speech in the last tribal
council. Teresa? I think she’s smart. She’s also a
hardcore player amongst the other women. So, I guess she
would have vote for somebody who played the game
intensely and Brandon, for the same reason (he didn’t like
Kim J at all: a) he thought that she unpleasure “to
keep him longer than Frank” b) Lex is more closer
enough to him and got to know him better than others, I
guess! Plus, I do think that he’d still vote for Lex no
matter who (either Ethan, Kim J or Tom) is sitting next
to Lex because Lex is the only one who was fully
trusting him (remember in Episode 10 which Brandon got his
torch extinguish and Lex had voted out frank instead of
Brandon?) I think there’s no doubt about this!! Hem… maybe
Frank would placed Lex’s name on that little card too!!
<br><br>So, he would win!! But she though, instead of giving
that one million dollar to him, it’s better to hand
over it to Ethan (poor Lex). The reason is ~ Lex did
win so many rewards / and challenges (over USD85, 000
in cash if the case of Lex placed no. 3, the
avalanche truck and so much of experiences which you can’t
buy it by money though) so, she picked Ethan but she
might be wrong. What if?? She would never know. What if
she could turn someone’s vote and ended up win the
title? She missed the chance to feel that!! After all,
in making that decision, she’s still the loser.
<br><br>That’s all. Just my opinion. Other
