I guess Burton gave a speech or q&a thing about Survivor and
marketing strategy at Kellogg on the fourth.  Do we have any Illinois
members who heard about it or might have gone?

Hello everyone...I just found a webite that has some awesome pictures
posted of Burton and all the Reality Stars as they participated in the
Reality4Diabetes charity event back in March!!  The website is

Hey Marilyn!!  WOW!!  South Africa!!  It is good to know we have
Survivor fans even over in your part of the world!!  We definitely
share the same love for Burton!!  He was my favorite too...how can you
not love a man that is so handsome...smart...'sexy'...athletic...I
about expired when he got voted off the first time!!  I had vowed NOT
to watch..I could not believe that...he was winning those challenges
and did so much for the tribe!!  How on earth could they even consider
that???  Well...I am such a huge fan that I kept watching...when they
brought the Outcasts back in the game...my heart did a somersault!!  I
just knew Burton would be back in!!  He might as well have won that
challenge all by himself!!  He is so athletic and driven!!  I was sooo
happy for him!!  I don't care what anyone else thought...he deserved
to be back!!  I'm like you about Lill...she basically turned her back
on her whole tribe and then on her whole alliance!!  I am glad that
Sandra won the money...at least she wasn't hiding how she was ...she
played the game and I thought she deserved the money (if Burton
couldn't win)...I didn't want Jon to win either...
I am a bit older than you, but I too can appreciate such a man!!

He has it all...I was very proud of how he played the game too...when
he won the ammuity challenges...I cheered to the rafters!!  I loved
him in the swimming challenges...that man could swim! His body was
beautiful in the water....anytime he got wet I was a very happy
woman!!
If I had his e-mail...I would share with you in a heartbeat...as I
don't have it either...just his Yahoo Group like you...I have posted
here more than once...so far no "Burton" appearances...:(  I hope he
reads it at least to know that he did have some very very loyal
fans...he was the 'bomb' and I just want to share my love for him
too!!

survivor pearl islands this month... i know...i know...we are very

again...and unfortunately for internet...i couldnt resist but to see
who the winner was...but i am glad u had fun...i just had to tell u ,
that i noticed your strong character...and go-getter attitude...i
have to say, very very inspiring ...i was ecstatic everytime u won
ammunity or a reward for that matter...and i was deeply touched by
your generosity when u gave up your ammunity for rupert...even though
u were safe....from the vote...i totally admire...ur benevolence...a
very appealing trait i might add...

i just look for the finer things in life...and under normal
circumstances...i will never do anything such as this...and send

Did you take anything away from the experience that will help you in
your career?

I wanted to be on the show because of the experince and the game
itself.  Some people do it because they think it will change their
lives and have these huge unrealistice hopes of what will happen and
I am sure most of them end up being let down when it is all over.  I
have no idea what to expect and therefore have enjoyed everything
that has happened to date.  If any opportunities should come about
because of the show, I will definitely look into them and go from
there.  Should I ever get out of the tech industry, I would like to
be more involved with something dealing with the outdoors or travel,
so I hope this could help me get into that industry.

In hindsight, what would you have done differently to stay in the
game longer?

I wanted to align myself with other strong players so that later in
the game, the stronger, more threatening, players were not
outnumbered and picked off by the other, less threatening ones.  I
really thought it was important for Rupert and me to stick together
and be a team, but it was too late in the game once I approached
him.  From a leadership role, I did not want to be the leader, but
naturally I could not help being somewhat of a leader in the tribe.
And from a physical standpoint, I could not hide who I was, and in
order to make sure we won, I had to go all out in the challenges, so
there was no holding back.  I definitely would have tried to be lower
profile and tried to stay "under the radar" more, but as I just
stated, that was noteasy for me to do and after a period of time,
your true self comes out.

Any other stories, insights, etc. that you would like to share with a
Kellogg audience?

Playing the game and being on the island is so different than seeing
it on TV every week.  It is easy to watch and say you should have
done this or you should have done that, but there are so many things
that go into every decision you make - and many are not shown because
there is not enough time.  Plus, if you change even one thing you say
or do in the show, there are so many other things that would be
impacted by it, so it is hard to look back and say I would have
changed one thing or another and know what the end result would have
been.  Additionally, I was constantly thinking about the game and
strategy out there, so from a mental standpoint, it was very
draining, yet you cannot ever get yourself out of the game and that
mindset.

Did you get used to life with a camera in your face?

It was definitely strange to have everything taped twenty-four hours
a day, but after a few days you got comfortable with it and really
never even noticed them or paid attention to them.  It could get
annoying at times though when other people would play up to the
cameras and act differently around them.

Do you get recognized on the street now?

I have been recognized a couple of times, which is really wild, but
it is not too often and most people just leave you alone.  It will be
interesting to see how it all turns out at the end of the show.

Did you apply any MBA learnings when you were on the show?

I reread some of my course information and bought new books on game
theory and and group strategies as well as team dynamics before
leaving for the show.  While many of the learnings from Kellogg were
not "directly" applicable as the situation was so unique, the overall
experience and thinking about the game and strategies was definitely
easier for me after school and my experiences there.

What made you want to be a contestant on Survivor?

I have been interested in the show since seeing it on tv years ago.
The experience, the game, the challenges and the chance to win a
million dollars all make a pretty compelling opportunity.  I had
applied in the past, but did not get chosen, and this year everything
just came together and worked out for me.

What did your work colleagues think about you wanting to be on the
show?

I did not tell anyone I was applying this time since the chances were
so slim, and I did not want to hear people asking me all the time if
I had heard anything from them.  In fact, they did not know I had
done it ( I had to make up a story why I was going to be gone for for
six weeks) until it was announced four weeks after I returned to the
U.S.

What were the best and worst things about being on the show?

The worst was definitely the mosquitoes, and other biting insects.
The sleeping conditions on the bamboo were also pretty rough and did
not allow you to get a good night sleep, but you got used to that.
The best part was probably the location and the fact that we had our
own private beach and lagoon that was absolutely beautiful.  I also
loved all the challenges and the strategy behind the game.

How did you enjoy your experiences at Kellogg?

Burton: My experience at Kellogg was amazing.  The classes, teachers,
students, location - really everything about the school exceeded my
expectations.  I will have to say the best choice I made was to study
abroad on the Thailand exchange program during the winter quarter in
my second year.  Besides missing the brutally cold winter, we met
great people, experienced living in another country, and got to
travel to Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Nepal and the Philipplines.

What is your current job and responsibilities?

I am working for a startup video gaming company called Infinium
Labs.  When I started there, I was running the marketing group and
now I am focused on business development and strategic alliances.  We
are currently in the process of raising money and building the
company, so it is pretty exciting.

What is Burton's yahoo group called?  I met the guy at the reunion
show last year in LA and he was very cool, but then I got pulled away
and never had a chance to say thanks - would love to get the guy a

Is it just me, or does the guy in the beer commercial with the woman

Hey eveyone...I just found out that Burton had his own Yahoo group
and joined!! I loved Burton from Day#1!!!  Mercy!! I think he is the
all-time best looking male they have ever had on the show and he was
a smart and very competitive player as well!! I am desperate to get
copies of the Pearl Islands episodes ...I only got 1/2 the the
Reunion show...which just broke my heart as I missed the part where
Jeff talked to Burton!! :(  If anyone has all of the episodes

It's been down at least since December, but if you run a search for
it in Metacrawler you might come up with Burton's story about being
in the EcoChallenge Fiji race.  Since Christa has her site up, I
wonder if he'll be rebuilding his?
