Hi!<br><br>I'm a new fan of Strange Paradise and I'm dying to get copies of any
episodes - if anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate
it!<br><br>Thanks!<br><br>Bryan<br>drwhotrades@...
Hi! <br><br>I don't know if anyone still
frequents this club,<br>but I can't find any info on this
elsewhere on the<br>'net, so if anyone can help me, it'll
likely be<br>you guys. <br><br>I am an amateur costumer
from Ottawa, Ontario, <br>who has recently been
contracted by a local museum<br>to do some fitting of a
dress. One of the local<br>TV companies (CJOH) is
celebrating their 40th <br>anniversary and is helping to
erest an exhibit <br>highlighting the wide range of TV
shows they have <br>produced over the
years.<br><br>Including Strange Paradise. <br><br>A friend of mine has
been hired for the grand <br>opening of the exhibit to
stand around in a dress<br>from Strange Paradise and
look pretty. My job is<br>to help the dress look
pretty.<br><br>The dress is taken from an episode where one of
<br>the characters (I have no idea who) has a
<br>flashback-type dream in which a grand ballroom <br>scene is
shown. I was told the producers were <br>trying to
reproduce the fashion of '150 years<br>before', so about
1800. But the dress looks <br>nothing like that. I've
placed it around 1750.<br><br>Anyways, my question is
this: does anyone remember<br>or can anyone tell me why
this flashback scene <br>was taking place? Did they
mention a time period<br>for the dream? What was the
story behind the <br>flashback anyways? <br><br>The
dress itself is a 'lovely' gold and dark blue
<br>brocade with big huge puffy gold sleeves and <br>gold
embroidery on the front. I don't know who<br>wore it, so any
information anyone can give me<br>on that aspect would be
greatly appreciated!!<br><br>If anyone has pictures of
the dress being used in <br>the show or even just the
ballroom scene/dream,<br>that would be amazing too! The
exhibit is opening<br>April 28th.<br><br>If you guys
want, I will be taking pictures of the<br>dress while
I'm working on it, and I can post them<br>here if you
want. <br><br>Thanks for any help!<br>Andrea Dixon
They did a couple of flashback episodes. In those
shows, Jacques was alive - about 300 years
ago.<br><br>The show aired in 1969, so that would make the
flashback about 1669 - but in my notes I have 1689 with a
question mark beside that date. So, the flashback episodes
are in the time period of 1669-1689.<br><br>Also,
according to my notes - few as they are - the flashbacks
occurred in episodes #6 & 20.<br><br>Tim
Dear Andrea,<br><br>How interesting about the
exhibit. Is the dress or any props from Strange Paradise
going to be on display during the show itself? I'd
certainly love to attend the grand opening fete. And I'd
love to see any photos of the dress, if you have the
time to post them.<br><br>I have tapes of all the
episodes with the flashback sequences (there were also
flashbacks in the very first episode). I think the
flashbacks were supposed to take place during the last year
of the life of Jacques-Eloi des Mondes, who figures
in the main 1969 storyline as a ghost. Jacques was
supposed to have died in 1680, I believe; however, his
clothing appears to have been inspired by Cavalier-era
swag portraits of the 1630s and 40s. I'm not certain,
but from your description, the dress sounds like one
worn by actress Dawn Greenhalgh in the character of
Raoua, Jacques' sister-in-law, with whom he is seen
carrying on an adulterous affair. (In the main 1969
storyline, Dawn Greenhalgh portrayed Dr. Alison Carr, and
she was the sister in law of Jean-Paul Desmond,
Jacques' modern day descendant. Both Jacques and Jean-Paul
were played by wonderful Canadian actor Colin
Fox.)<br><br>I hope this info is of help. If you have any other
questions about Strange Paradise, feel free to email me at
shutt@.... Incidentally, the character of Jacques-Eloi des
Mondes popped up again in a later storyline, but in this
case he was supposed to have lived in the 18th
century! --Steve
Andrea, A friend of mine checked his tapes over
the weekend, and 1660 to 1689 were the dates for
Jacques-Eloi des Mondes' life given in the early "Maljardin"
storyline of Strange Paradise. I had the impression that
the flashbacks dated to the events of the final
months of Jacques' life. It is evident from the scripts
that Ian Martin (who wrote all of the first 7 or 8
weeks of Strange Paradise) planned to further develop
the 1689 backstory of Jacques. Presumably the plans
were halted due to the cost of re-dressing the sets of
the 1689 flashbacks and other budgetary
considerations.<br><br>I need to watch my tapes of these shows again, but
I meant to say in my earlier post that the clothing
was in the style seen in the swag portraits popular
at the court of Charles II in the 1680s, not Charles
I in the 1640s.<br><br>It is possible that the
dress to which you refer was worn by actress Tudi
Wiggins in a subsequent storyline in which Miss Wiggins
portrayed actress Helena Raleigh. In two episodes Helena
wears an elaborate Renaissance-styled dress identified
as an ensemble she wore when she played Lady
Macbeth.<br><br>I am afraid I don't have any online screen captures
available of these sequences. Please write to me if I can
be of any further help.<br><br>Steve
Wow! Thanks so much to everyone for all the info.
<br><br>I've passed the info on to the director of the
<br>museum. I'm not sure if the dress will be going<br>on
display - I believe it is, but if it does, it<br>will
most likely just be with a very simple label<br>along
the lines of 'Worn in the production of the<br>TV
drama 'Strange Paradise' . I have not heard of<br>any
other artifacts from the show going on
display.<br><br>I am taking pictures of the dress, and as soon
as<br>I get them developed I will post them.
<br><br>Should be withing the next couple of days - I <br>just
have to get this roll finished. <br><br>Again, thank
you all!!<br><br>Andrea<br>whose faith in humanity is
restored ;->
Steve, thanks for the additional info!!<br><br>Andrea, although we don't have
any screen grabs there are a few pics of the paperbacks in the "Photos"
section.<br><br>Tim
Andrea, On Monday evening I went through my SP
tapes, and I believe I have identified the dress you
describe. A photo would help cinch the identification, but
the only dress remotely like the one you mention was
worn by an extra in a banquet sequence in episode 20.
It was subsequently worn by Tudi Wiggins (in her
role of actress Helena Raleigh) in episodes 97-98. The
character has a line describing the dress as one intended
to be worn by Lady Macbeth onstage. Tudi Wiggins
wore it with a sort of gold net necklace that covered
quite a bit of the decol in front. The dress has a very
low back as well. The dark blue in the dress doesn't
read very strongly on camera, but it is obviously
there. The huge puffy gold sleeves certainly do make a
statement.<br><br>Is your friend going to wear a necklace or any other
jewellery? It seems as if the outfit would look a bit "bare"
without accessories.<br><br>All the best,<br>Steve
Thanks - I was handed a photocopy of a
promotional still today by the curator of the<br>museum
showing an actress wearing THE DRESS<br>(as it has come
to be called). <br><br>I've uploaded a scan of it to
the files section.<br>Is this the actress you were
talking about? <br>I like the necklace - my friend was
planning to<br>wear a lace choker type thing but now I
have <br>other ideas for her...<br><br>Thanks again!
Hi Andrea,<br><br>How exciting about the
photograph. I couldn't find it in the photos section here.
Yahoo clubs don't have a "files" option. Where did you
upload it? If you have the chance perhaps you could
email it to me as an attachment. My address is
shutt@.... Also, we'd all love to see more promotional
stills from Strange Paradise. Nobody has ever been able
to find any, so it's good to know that someone kept
a selection, somewhere!<br><br>Steve
Wow! Finally some excitement in the world of SP!
The infamous DRESS! How can we attract more fans?
Dark Shadows did it, so can we! I've e-mailed the
Sci-Fi Channel several times. They responded finally
that SP is not in their immediate plans. Has anyone
else written or heard from the Sci-Fi Channel? Who
owns SP now anyway?? Maybe we should petition them
about releasing home videos! So where do we see a photo
of "The Dress"?
Hi Sprules_1999<br><br>Thanks for the update. At
least the Sci-Fi channel finally replied to someone
about SP!!<br><br>I've tried several times to get an
email campaign going but I think only a few follow
through. :(<br><br>Last we heard, Centaur was trying to
sell the rights to SP. I've heard nothing
further.<br><br>Tim
Hi Andrea!!<br><br>Thanks for the pictures!!
<br><br>The links you gave only yielded two pics but I
uploaded them to the Default folder here.<br><br>I don't
recognize the dress or the actress.<br>Anybody else have a
clue?<br><br>Tim
Hi Andrea,<br><br>Yes, that is the dress worn by
Tudi Wiggins in the episodes I previously mentioned
(97-98, wasn't it?) I have no idea who the actress in the
still was. Perhaps she wore the dress in another
production? I had the feeling that it was something that was
recycled from a different series or drama. Ms. Wiggins
wore the same necklace as the actress in this still.
It's a pity that the necklace seems to have been
separated from the costume since ... it really completes
the ensemble.<br><br>Keep us posted about your
project! Thanks again for sharing.<br><br>Steve
I'm willing to trade or even buy, I don't have
any of the episodes and I'm a fan. It's been years
since I've seen any of them. If you can help me out
please contact me at zombi69_2@... ...thanx.
Hello I'm looking for a copy of the SP logo that
is on this club page. I need a larger image, and was
wondering if anyone knew where to find one. I had seen one
on the net, but I can't find the page
anymore.<br><br>Any help would be
appreciated.<br><br>Thanks!<br><br>Bryan<br>drwhotrades@...
Through no small effort I found this link
which<br>chronicles the memories of one Bruce Grey who played on this
elusive
series:<br><br><a href=http://www.brucegray.net/BGPPstrangeparadise.shtml
target=new>http://www.brucegray.net/BGPPstrangeparadise.shtml</a><br><br>My
question is this? I happened to actually find a
site devoted to the show which offered VHS tapes of
the episodes. It dissappeared. Did anybody else ever
run into it?
There sure hasn't been much action here lately!
Any Strange Paradise fans still out there?? Are we
all still contacting the Sci-Fi Channel?? I have the
first 21 episodes on tape. Does anyone know where I can
get more?? Also, don't forget you can contact me at
strangeparadise@... for a copy of my synopsis and commentary on the 3
Strange Paradise novels by Dorothy Daniels.
Finding episodes is nearly impossible. You wouldn't even believe what I went
through in the attempt. There is an excellent possibility that everyone's just
given up.
I am not as active as I would like to be, but I
am still here, and have not lost any interest in
this far too overlooked show. I did a few months ago
write the SciFi Channel requesting they obtain
broadcast rights of STRANGE PARADISE,but no real response.
As I recall some earlier messages on the message
board here did offer sources for recorded episodes.
Check some back messages here.
SPRules,<br><br>Love your addy! I am still here.
I don't get a chance to check in like I want to. I
am an avid Colin Fox fan. I finally found him on Psi
Factor but their last season was 1999. I would love to
find some tapes. Where did you get yours?<br><br>I
will check out your site.<br><br>Joanna
If Star Trek fans are Trekkers and Doctor Who fans are Whovians, what should we
SP fans call ourselves? Any suggestions out there?<br>P.S. Keep bugging the
Sci-Fi Channel. It can't hurt!
