     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 141

   Susan explains that she came to Desmond Hall because she was needed and was
led by the star.

   Jean Paul warns Philip that he is in danger of dying if he stays with him. 
Philip mentions the curse is also affecting his people.  Then he tells Jean Paul
he must submit to the rituals of his people if he wants to be helped.  Jean Paul
agrees and Philip calls to Orendo and explains that Orendo is the guardian of
his people.  He tells him the reason he came to Desmond Hall was to trace the
evil that haunts his people.

   Raxl questions Jean Paul about Philip and his plans.

   Philip enters the Drawing Room and Emily asks his decision about Jean Paul. 
Philip asks for the totem and tells Emily to stay in her room until he returns.

   As they enter the foyer Susan joins them.  Philip asks her to stay with Emily
until he returns.

   Philip walks through the woods carrying the totem.  Stopping he asks
permission to bring the spirits of his tribe to save an outsider.  An Indian
mask appears in the tree near him.  Kneeling he asks for Jean Paul to be added
under its protection.  Tears run down the masks face as permission is granted. 
Philip collects the mask and walks back to Desmond Hall.

   Susan tells Emily about her vision and they look through the books in the
Drawing Room for information about a servant that was involved in the past.
   Philip joins them and to speak to Emily alone.  He gives her the totem and
tells her they will use his people beliefs and his learning at the University to
trace the Desmond curse to its source.

   Raxl enters Jean Paul’s room with Susan.  Jean Paul questions her about the
star and asks if she fears him.  Susan tells him she never said he was a
murderer.  Raxl warns him that Susan brings evil.  Susan reminds them that there
was evil here before she arrived.

   Raxl joins Emily in the Drawing Room and asks her to speak to Philip and ask
him not to meddle in Jean Paul’s affairs.  Emily tells Raxl Philip is only
trying to help.

   Philip shows Jean Paul the mask of Orendo calling it Gagossa and asks him to
place his trust in the Spirit God.  He calls to Orendo and asks for Jean Paul to
be included in his protection.  Tears run down the face of the mask and Philip
asks Jean Paul to stay in his room

   Raxl enters Susan’s room and calls her Susanne O’Claire and asks what part she
had played in the Desmond curse.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 142

   Jean Paul enters Philip’s room and asks to see the mask.  He asks if it can
really save him.  Philip calls to Orendo and asks if Jean Paul can be saved.  He
receives no answer.

   Emily joins Philip and asks why he wanted to see her.  Philip informs her that
he may not be able to help Jean Paul.  He tells her she must leave Desmond Hall
for her own safety.  Emily refuses to leave and tells him she can help.

   Ada stands in the Drawing Room with a drink in her hand as Emily walks in and
joins her.  Emily asks about Benjamin Desmond.  Ada tells her that Benjamin was
her uncle and he murdered the woman he loved.

   Raxl asks Jean Paul what Philip is doing to end the curse.  She warns him that
Philip is a stranger and could bring harm.  Raxl tells Jean Paul he must leave
Desmond Hall or he will kill Emily as she shows him the picture of Four Women on
the Gallows.  He asks Raxl to send Emily to his room.

   Ada continues to drink and Cort asks her if she is drinking because of Laslo.
He calls her a fool if she believes that Laslo is not seeing Irene.  Ada rushes
from the room and passes Raxl on the staircase.

   Raxl enters the Drawing room and asks Cort about his mother.  She warns him
that someone in the house is in danger and promises to protect him from evil.

   Jean Paul tells Emily she must leave for her own safety. Emily argues then
refuses.

   In his room Philip calls to Orendo and asks for a sign that Jean Paul can be
saved as Cort walks into the room.  Cort asks whom he was talking to as he
notices the mask.  Cort questions him on why he came to Desmond Hall.  He leaves
the room and tells Philip to keep his secrets

   As Emily leaves the Drawing Room she meets Cort on the staircase.  She asks
him about Benjamin Desmond.  Cort tells her he was not buried with the rest of
the family then remembers that he has seen the Mark of Death   He asks Emily to
go with him and they gather their coats and enter the woods to look for
Benjamin’s grave.  Beneath the name and date was a drawing of the Mark of Death.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 143

   Emily questions what the mark means.  As they walk away Raxl stands near the
tombstone.

   Ada knocks on Jean Paul’s door and tells him she doesn’t like being alone
during a storm.  When he notices the way she is speaking she tells him she had a
glass of brandy during the evening.  Ada asks how long he is planning to stay at
Desmond Hall because she might need him.  She warns that there might be trouble
at the house.  Hearing a door close she rushes from the room to see if Laslo is
home.

   Cort and Emily enter the foyer and Ada joins them.  Cort informs her that
Laslo is still in town.  Emily walks with Ada into the Drawing Room and asks if
she can tell her anything else about Benjamin.  Ada tells her that her uncle was
locked up in Desmond Hall after the governess was discovered dead after they had
a terrible fight..  She also adds that Raxl was Benjamin’s housekeeper.  Emily
walks from the room to speak to Jean Paul as Ada pours another drink.

   Emily enters Jean Paul’s room and he tells her she must leave.  Emily refuses
and asks him about the Mark of Death.  Jean Paul explains that it compels him to
kill.  Emily mentions Benjamin’s grave.  Jean Paul calls Raxl to his room and
questions her about Benjamin.  Raxl refuses to answer and Jean Paul sends Emily
from the room.  Jean Paul questions Raxl about the Mark of Death being on his
uncle’s grave.  Raxl informs him that he was not the first cursed by the mark. 
She tells him that his uncle set himself on fire and burned to death to escape
the curse.

   In the Drawing Room Cort questions his mother about Benjamin Desmond.  When
his mother tells him she doesn’t want to discuss past tragedies Cort asks her to
divorce Laslo.  Raxl enters the room and tells Ada not to discuss Benjamin with
anyone.  Cort tells her to keep her suggestions to herself.  Ada walks from the
room and Raxl tells Cort not to upset his mother.  She looks at Jacques portrait
and tells Cort she will protect him as she did Jean Paul.

  Cort enters Jean Paul’s room and asks if he can have part of his inheritance to
leave Desmond Hall.  Jean Paul tells him he should not leave because his mother
needs him.

   Laslo enters Desmond Hall and Ada joins him in the foyer.  She questions him
on where he has been.  He notices that she has been drinking and tells her she
must trust him or they have no marriage.  Laslo hugs her as Cort stands in the
doorway.

   Jean Paul informs Emily about the way Benjamin died and tells her she must
leave before the star appears tomorrow night.

   Raxl stands in front of Jacques portrait and speaks to it.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 144

   Cort speaks to Jacques portrait and asks who will be the Master of Desmond
Hall.  Raxl joins him and tells him she can give him the answer.  He tells her
to go back to her master Jean Paul.  She tells him Jean Paul has turned to
others.  Cort asks her about Jacques portrait.  Raxl tells him his mother found
it in the attic. She sees the star out the window and rushes from the room.

   Philip holds the mask as Raxl knocks on the door.  Entering she warns Jean
Paul that the star is out.  Philip tells Jean Paul that they will deal with it. 
Raxl warns him that the last person that defied the star died a horrible death. 
Jean Paul orders her to leave.

   Cort stares at Jacques portrait as Laslo enters the Drawing Room and asks
about Ada.  Cort tells him the only reason he married his mother was because of
the Desmond fortune.  He then threatens to find out all he can about Laslo.

   Raxl enters the Drawing Room and speaks to Laslo.  She tells him she wants to
guide Cort to be the head of the Desmond family.

   Philip calls to Orendo as Jean Paul stands behind him with his eyes shut. 
Philip asks for Orendo’s protection for Jean Paul.  Jean Paul tells Philip he
hears the heartbeat.  Philip calls for the drumbeat of his people to drown out
the heartbeat.  Jean Paul tells him the heartbeat has stopped.

   Laslo enters the Drawing Room and apologizes to Cort and asks for another
chance.  Cort tells him he will try as Raxl enters the room.  Laslo walks away
and Cort tells Raxl that Laslo asked for another chance but he really wants
Desmond Hall for himself.  Raxl informs him that Laslo will never be Master of
Desmond Hall.

   Philip orders Jean Paul to go to the bed and tells him a beautiful maiden lies
on the bed.  He commands Jean Paul to sacrifice her.  Jean Paul lifts a pillow
and puts his hands around the top and twists as if he is strangling a girl.
   Raxl pounds on the door calling to Jean Paul.  Philip orders her to go away as
Jean Paul comes out of the star’s influence and notices the pillow in his hands.
He becomes upset and starts to question Philip.  Philip confronts Raxl in the
hallway and orders her to leave Jean Paul alone.  Raxl threatens him that he
will pay for his interference.
   Philip enters the room and joins Jean Paul where they start again as he calls
to Orendo.

   Raxl enters the Drawing Room and looks out the window at the star.  Cort joins
her and she warns of evil in the house and claims that Philip is a witch.  Cort
questions her about the Mark of Death.  Raxl tells him it is the symbol of the
Desmond curse.

   Jean Paul releases the pillow and claims that the girl is dead.  Philip leads
Jean Paul to the window where he discovers that the star is gone.

   Cort stands in front of Jacques portrait and Raxl calls him to the window. 
Cort looks out and questions her about the star in the sky.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 145

   As thunder rumbles outside Susan wakes and looks out the window.  She sees the
star and rushes from the room.

   Philip informs Jean Paul that the star is gone.  He tells him he will leave
the mask with Jean Paul and instructs him to take it out and pass his hand over
the face and ask for Orendo’s protection.  Susan knocks and enters and warns
them that the star is out.  Philip informs her that they have rid Jean Paul of
the star.  Susan rushes from the room.

   Cort questions Raxl about the star.  She tells him it is his star and not to
tell anyone about it.  Susan enters and asks Raxl why Jean Paul cannot see the
star.  Raxl and Cort argue over the star when Susan warns that it is a trap. 
Cort rushes from the room and Susan steps in front of Raxl stopping her from
following.  Susan goes back in time as she looks at Raxl. ‘Susanne calls Raxl a
witch.  Raxl reminds her that it is Philippe Des Mondes that is being accused. 
Susanne tells Raxl that it is a plot to kill the king and begs Raxl to speak to
Jacques to withdraw his accusations.’

   Jean Paul thanks Philip as Cort rushes into the room and demands the meaning
of the star.  He tells them he saw it out the window in the Drawing Room.  Jean
Paul and Philip discover that Raxl was with him. They tell Cort to come to them
if he thinks he is in danger and asks him to send Raxl to them.

   Susan keeps Raxl in the Drawing Room to wait for Cort.  Cort joins them and
sends Raxl to see Jean Paul.  Raxl angrily asks why he spoke to Jean Paul about
the star.  Susan tells him his star is followed by harm and asks if Raxl is
leading her Master towards evil.

   Raxl enters Jean Paul’s room.  Philip and Jean Paul question her why Cort can
see the star.  When she refuses to answer Philip takes the mask and calls on
Orendo to force the truth from her.

   Cort enters Susan’s room and reminds her of the time they met in the secret
room.  He accuses her of trying to make herself important with her knowledge. 
Susan tells him he should listen to people more carefully.

   Raxl raises her arm to strike the mask as Philip calls on Orendo.  Raxl
angrily tells Jean Paul that he is not her Master.  Jean Paul orders her to
leave Desmond Hall.  Raxl speaks defiantly that she will be here long after he
is gone.

   Cort stands next to Jacques portrait and hears the heartbeat.

   STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 146

   Philip has spent the night sleeping in Jean Paul’s room in a chair.  He
awakens Jean Paul and informs him he has survived the night.  Jean Paul asks if
he is free.  Philip tells him Orendo will protect him if the star appears again.
Jean Paul wonders if the curse has been  passed to Cort.

    Cort stands in front of Jacques portrait as Raxl enters the room and calls
him master explaining that he will be the head of the family.  Cort tells her
that he heard a sound coming from the portrait, a sound of a heartbeat.  Raxl
tells him the new master hears the heartbeat when the old one is going to die,
then asks him not to say anything to Jean Paul.  Philip joins them and tells
Cort that Jean Paul wants to speak to him.  When Raxl starts to follow Philip
asks her to wait.

    Jean  Paul holds the mask as Cort and Philip enter the room.  Jean Paul asks
Cort if anything unusual happened during the night.  Cort asks why they are
concerned about him and mentions Raxl name when they ask if anyone was with him.
Philip questions him on what Raxl said to him.  When Cort mentions just family
legends Jean Paul and Philip wonders if he is telling the truth.  Cort leaves
the room and Philip asks how Susan could know so much about Jean Paul.

    Cort informs Raxl that Jean Paul told him not to listen to superstitions.

    Philip knocks at Susan’s door and asks her about Jean Paul and the star. 
When she doesn’t know what he is talking about he shows her the drawing of the
Mark of Death .  Susan becomes frightened and tells h8im she saw it in a dream. 
She informs him she dreams of another life in another century.

    Jean Paul speaks to Emily about surviving the night as Philip joins them.  He
tells them he spoke to Susan and she doesn’t remember talking about the star but
has dreams about the 17th century.
    Emily glances at the drawing and tells them she has seen the mark in a book
at the University about 17th century witchcraft.  Jean Paul asks her to go to
Boston and check on it.

    Raxl looks out the window in Jean Paul’s room as Jean Paul enters.  She asks
for his forgiveness and begs to be let back into his service.  Emily joins them
and mentions she is ready to leave as Raxl walks from the room.

    Raxl enters the Drawing Room and apologizes to Philip and says she only wants
to be Jean Paul’s servant.  Cort walks through the foyer and listens at the
door.  He enters the Drawing Room and asks to speak to Raxl alone.  Philip walks
away and Cort questions her on who her master is.  She informs him that she
serves them both.  Cort tells her he doesn’t need her help then walks from the
room.

   Cort enters Jean Paul’s room searching for him as Raxl follows and informs him
that Jean Paul went for a walk.  Cort questions her on when he will be head of
the family.  He threatens to tell Jean Paul that he is going to die then orders
Raxl to leave Desmond Hall because of her deceit.  Laslo stands in the doorway
and asks about the argument.  Raxl walks from the room and Cort tells Laslo he
wants Jean Paul to discharge her.  Laslo agrees then mentions that Ada seems to
be happier and reminds him of the promise that he would try to accept him.

  Raxl answers the front door as Irene enters and asks to speak to Laslo.  Laslo
walks down the staircase and Irene meets him in the foyer.  Laslo leads her
outside as Raxl listens at the door.

    Irene and Laslo argue about Irene coming to Desmond Hall.  He tells her they
are through and the affair should never have happened.  Irene threatens to tell
Ada about the coven and Laslo’s participation and demands he meet her at the
cottage.

    Raxl informs Cort of what she had heard when Laslo and Irene were outside
talking.

    Cort tells his mother that Irene came to Desmond Hall to see Laslo.  Laslo
stands in the doorway and Ada asks him why Irene came to the house.  Cort walks
from the room and Laslo informs her that he did not invite Irene.  Ada threatens
to divorce him if he is lying.  Laslo blames Cort for causing trouble between
them.

    Raxl arrives at Irene’s cottage and tells her that she came to help.

    Cort accuses his mother of believing more lies from Laslo then asks what she
knows about his past.  Ada informs him if she has to choose between them she
will choose her husband.

    Irene calls Desmond Hall and asks Cort to come to the cottage and she will
tell him about Laslo’s past.

    Laslo calls Irene and tells her he is not coming.  She threatens to tell Ada
of his involvement with the coven.  He agrees to come as Cort enters Desmond
Hall.
    Laslo calls him to the Drawing Room and tells him to stop causing trouble
between his mother and himself.  Ada enters and Laslo tells her he has to go to
the office.

    Cort tells his mother about Laslo’s first wife and the list of ladies that
Laslo was involved with.  Then he informs  her that Laslo went to Irene’s
cottage.

    Laslo arrives at the cottage and Irene tells him she will not let him go. 
Laslo tells her they will work something out as he takes her in his arms and
kisses her.  There is a knock at the door; Irene opens it to find Ada standing
in the doorway.

   STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 148

   Ada asks to speak to Laslo alone.  Laslo claims that Irene blackmailed him
into coming to her cottage.  Ada tells him she is divorcing him then walks out
the door.  Laslo questions Irene why she didn’t say anything.  She tells him
because he uses people and only cares about himself.  She mentions that she had
told Cort and he must have told Ada then adds that he could always find another
rich wife.

    Cort speaks to Susan about telling his mother about Laslo meeting Irene. 
Susan mentions that Cort may pretend he doesn’t care about people but it is not
true.  She then talks about her parents ands their deaths.  Cort hopes his
mother will divorce Laslo.

    Laslo angrily tells Irene that they are through.

    Ada enters Desmond Hall and rushes up the staircase past Cort.  Raxl stops
him from following and tells him his mother needs time.  She tells him his
mother’s marriage is over and everything he wished for is coming true.

    Laslo enters Desmond Hall looking for Ada and Cort stops him from going up
the staircase.  They begin to fight as Ada shouts at them to stop.  She walks
into the Drawing Room and asks Laslo to join her.  She orders him to leave
Desmond Hall as Raxl walks up to the door and listens.  Laslo tells Ada that
Cort set a trap for him and Irene threatened to cause trouble between them.  Ada
mentions his first wife and asks if he spent her money.  She orders him to leave
because their marriage is over.

    Raxl enters Susan’s room and tells Cort that Laslo is gone.  After she walks
away Susan asks how Raxl knew what was said between his mother and Laslo and
warns him to be careful of Raxl.

    Ada stands in the Drawing Room drinking as Cort enters.  She tells him that
she still loves Laslo as she pours another drink.  Cort takes the decanter from
her and asks her to go away with him from Desmond Hall and all the memories. 
She agrees as Cort tells her he will make the arrangements and they will leave
in the morning.

    Ada enters the foyer and calls for Raxl to help her pack.  She tells Raxl
that Cort and she are leaving Desmond Hall.

    Raxl enters the Drawing Room and tells Cort he must not leave or he will die.

   STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 149

   Raxl claims that a force of evil pursues Cort.  He tells her he doesn’t
believe her and orders her to leave the room.

   Laslo enters Desmond Hall and meets Cort in the foyer.  Cort informs him that
he and Ada are leaving.

   Raxl tells Jean Paul about Ada and Cort leaving Desmond Hall.  She asks him to
stop them because the Mark of Death could end up with Cort.  Ada knocks on the
door and asks to speak to Jean Paul.  She tells him she is divorcing Laslo, and
Cort and she are leaving for South America in the morning.  Jean Paul asks if
she has thought it through.  When she tells him she needs to get away Jean Paul
suggests leaving Cort with him and Philip.  Ada tells him she needs Cort with
her

   Laslo enters Irene’s cottage and informs her that she is coming with him to
tell Ada the truth about his last visit.  Irene tells him she will also tell Ada
of his other visits and his involvement with the coven.  Laslo leaves the
cottage without her.

   Irene opens the door to discover Raxl standing in the doorway.  Raxl tells her
she has come to help Irene get Laslo back.  She mentions the coven and tells
Irene they must join together to call upon the powers of darkness.

   Cort tells his mother about Raxl saying he will die if he leaves Desmond Hall
then asks about his grandfather.  Ada tells him her father disappeared and there
are stories that his ghost haunts Desmond Hall.

   Raxl and Irene join hands as they call upon the Dark Spirits.  They ask for
acceptance as moans and shrieks fill the room and the candles blow out. 
Relighting the candles Raxl asks for a voice to be released from beyond the
grave.

   As Ada pours another drink she hears her father’s voice calling her name.

   Laslo speaks to Jean Paul about Ada and Cort leaving and asks him to tell them
they cannot leave.  Jean Paul informs him that he tried to talk her out of it as
Cort rushes into the room.  Cort tells them that his mother is missing.

   Cort rushes into the hallway and seeing Raxl he informs her that his mother is
missing.  Raxl warns him that his mother might be in danger because they defied
the ghosts of Desmond Hall.

   Ada enters Philip’s secret room as the voice continues to call to her.

       STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 150

   Raxl enters the secret room and places Ada under her control.  She tells her
that her father is calling to her to warn her not to leave Desmond Hall or death
awaits her.  She then tells her she must persuade Cort not to leave.

  Susan knocks on Philip’s door and tells him she is worried because Jean Paul is
not in his room and the star is going to appear.  Philip informs her that Jean
Paul is safe as Cort rushes into the room asking if they have seen Ada.  Philip
rushes from the room to look for Jean Paul.  Cort questions her why Philip has
to find Jean Paul as Susan looks out the window and sees the star.

   Cort joins Laslo in the Drawing Room and accuses him of not helping look for
Ada.  Laslo says he knows Cort set a trap for him at Irenes.  Cort brings up the
name of Laslo’s first wife.

   Ada cries out silently that she wishes she could have had a different life
from a child to an adult.  Seeing the skeleton she hugs it calling it her
father.  Coming out of the trance she notices where she is and screams running
to the door.  She cries out for someone to save her as she slides to the floor
sobbing.

   Philip takes the mask from the drawer as Raxl enters the room.  They argue
about Jean Paul being free of the curse.  Raxl tells him to stop his rituals as
Susan enters the room.  Susan tells Raxl that Jean Paul is protected and Raxl
laughs then walks from the room.  Philip asks Susan to find Jean Paul and bring
him to the room.

   Laslo informs Cort that Ada’s safety is now Corts concern then walks from the
room as Raxl enters.  Cort asks Raxl for help to find his mother.  Raxl informs
him that Ada is now under the influence of Jean Paul and Philip then warns him
if they leave she cannot protect them from the evil of Desmond Hall.  She
suggests that Ada went to Irene’s cottage to find out the truth.  Cort rushes
out the door and Raxl steps outside.  She glances at the star.

   Laslo enters the Drawing Room and asks Raxl where Cort is.  He tells her that
she seems to be in the center of things at Desmond Hall.

   Jean Paul enters Desmond Hall and tells Raxl he did not find a trace of Ada. 
Raxl tells him that Ada wanted to be alone and asks where he would go.  Jean
Paul angrily accuses her of letting everyone search when she knew where Ada was
the whole time then he rushes up the staircase to the secret room.

   Cort enters Desmond Hall and tells Raxl his mother was not at Irenes.  Laslo
steps into the foyer and asks why Ada would go to Irenes.  Laslo and Cort enter
the Drawing Room as Laslo accuses Cort for Ada misery.

   Ada sits thinking about her parents as Jean Paul enters the secret room.  He
approaches her as the heartbeat starts.  He looks at his hand and sees the Mark
of Death.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 151

   Cort enters Desmond Hall and questioned Laslo if he has looked for Ada at all
then accuses him of harming his mother.  Laslo mentions all the strange things
that have happened since Jean Paul arrived.  Susan joins them and tells them she
cannot find Jean Paul.  Laslo volunteers to look for Jean Paul and goes outside.
Cort follows him to the door and sees the star and becomes frightened.  Susan
leads him to the Drawing Room.

   As Jean Paul places his hands around Ada’s throat she faints.

   Philip calls on Orendo to protect Jean Paul from the evil that surrounds him.

   The heartbeat grows stronger as Jean Paul bends towards Ada.

   Cort hears the heartbeat as he sits next to Susan.  He shouts at Jacques
portrait to stop it.  Susan tells him she doesn’t hear anything and Cort rushes
from the room.  Susan runs after him.

   Philip asks for the drum beat to drown out the evil spirit.

   The drumbeat comes to Jean Paul and he takes his hands from Ada’s throat.  He
helps Ada to sit up.

   Philip covers the mask as the drum beat sounds in the room.  Susan rushes in
asking about the noise.  Philip informs her it saves Jean Paul from the evil
star.  Susan tells him about Cort hearing the heartbeat in the Drawing Room.

   Jean Paul tries to comfort Ada as she sobs.  Cort rushes in and Jean Paul asks
him to stay with Ada.  After Jean Paul walks from the room Cort questions Ada on
who locked her in as the heartbeat starts.

   Jean Paul enters his room followed by Philip and Susan.  He tells them how he
almost killed Ada but the drumbeat stopped him.  He informs them that Cort is
with Ada in the secret room.

   Ada asks why Cort is starring at her.  He approaches her and she calls him a
cruel boy.  Cort places his hands on her neck as Philip rushes into the room. 
Philip tells Cort to go to his room and promises Ada he will help look for Laslo
for her.

   Laslo knocks and enters Jean Paul’s room and tells him about Ada’s
disappearance.  Jean Paul tells him Ada got locked in one of the rooms. Laslo
speaks angrily about Jean Paul and the Desmond family then walks from the room.

   Philip and Susan accompany Ada into the Drawing Room.  Philip leaves Ada with
Susan as Laslo enters the room.  Susan excuses herself and Ada tells Laslo that
she is not leaving him.  Laslo tells her he loves her and they hug as Cort
stands in the doorway.  Ada asks to speak to Cort alone.   She tells Cort she
has changed her mind about leaving and informs him she does not feel safe with
him.

   Susan meets Cort on the staircase and asks how Ada got locked in the secret
room then tells him that someone is frightening his mother.

   Cort enters the Drawing Room and questions his mother on how she found the
secret room.  They argue about leaving on the trip and Cort informs her he is
going alone.  Ada cries out that she promised that he would not leave Desmond
Hall.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 152

   Cort questions his mother about who she promised he would stay at Desmond Hall
as Raxl enters the room.  Cort tells Raxl that his mother was locked in the
secret room.  Raxl tells him they must protect Ada then walks from the room. 
Ada tells Cort about her father’s disappearance and after her mother’s death she
came to Desmond Hall to live.  She mentions how frightened she is and asks him
to stay and Cort agrees.

   Emily arrives back at Desmond Hall and Raxl greets her in the foyer.  Emily
asks about Jean Paul and Raxl sends her to the Drawing Room.  Emily sets her
briefcase down and walks into the Drawing Room.

   Emily enters the Drawing Room and Cort tells her that Jean Paul is in his
room.  He goes with her to the foyer to help with her luggage.  Emily takes the
briefcase from Cort as Raxl steps into the foyer and watches as they go
upstairs.

   Raxl joins Ada in the Drawing Room.  Ada informs her that she and Cort are not
leaving.  Cort joins them as Ada thanks him for staying.

   Philip has fallen asleep in a chair in Jean Paul’s room as Jean Paul stands
looking out the window.  Jean Paul wakes him and tells him to go to bed because
the star has disappeared.  Philip informs him he will stay till morning.   
Emily knocks and joins them.  She tells them she has found information about the
mark and discovers that the paper is missing from her briefcase.

   In the Drawing Room Raxl holds a copy of a document

   Emily tells them the document was found in a book about the 17th century
witchcraft trials.  She and Philip leave the room to see if Emily dropped it.

   Raxl holds the document and speaks to Jacques portrait and tells him no one
must see his sign.

   Standing outside Jean Paul’s door Emily tells Philip she left the briefcase in
the foyer and Raxl was the only one there.

   Emily enters Jean Paul’s room and tells him they have not found it.  She tells
him the mark is actually a seal for a pact with the devil in the 17th century.

   Raxl makes a vow to protect Jacques from the evil that was brought to him by
his brother.  Philip stands in the doorway and questions her on her speaking to
the portrait then notices the paper in her hand.  He takes it from her and she
tells him she found it in the foyer.  Philip threatens to send her away if she
is lying.

   Jean Paul questions what the connection is with the mark appearing on him and
the witchcraft trial.  Emily asks when did Jacques arrive at Maljardin as Philip
joins them and informs them that Raxl had the document.  Jean Paul glances at it
and asks to keep it.  Emily leaves the room and Philip asks why Raxl would be
speaking to the portrait.

   Emily calls Philip to the hallway and informs him that the totem is gone.  He
tells her to go to her room and lock the door and if she feels frightened call
on Orendo.

   Philip enters Jean Paul’s room and informs him they have to find out if Raxl
is working against them.

   Raxl stands outside the door listening as she holds the totem.

   Emily enters Jean Paul’s room to find only Philip.    He tells her he hasn’t
found the totem.  Emily asks about Orendo then wonders if Jean Paul is really
free.  Philip tells her not until his star is gone.  Raxl stands outside the
door listening as Philip tells Emily they must trace the curse to its beginning.

   Raxl enters Cort’s room and he questions her on why she took the document from
Emily’s case.  Raxl claims that Emily is bringing evil to Desmond Hall.  Cort
asks why she wants him to stay at Desmond Hall and how his mother got locked in
the secret room.  Raxl tells him to ask Jean Paul how he knew Ada was in the
room.

   As Emily and Philip look through the books in the Drawing Room Philip tells
her he thinks the curse has something to do with Jacques Eloi Des Mondes.  He
asks Emily if there was any mention of the Des Mondes during the witchcraft
trials.  She tells him there were no names but a mysterious woman that was
engaged to one of the accused was mentioned.  Susan enters the Drawing Room and
they discuss the mark that she drew.  Cort joins them as Susan stares at Jacques
portrait.  Cort mentions Emilys’ return then walks from the room as Philip
accuses him of keeping information from them.  Susan asks if they can hear
laughter then rushes after Cort.

   In the foyer she calls him Claude and Cort mentions that is the second time
she has called him that.  As she looks at him the Mark of Death appears on his
face and Susan rushes to the Drawing Room in fright and closes the doors.

   Susan tells Philip she saw the mark on Cort’s face again.

   Cort enters his room and looks in the mirror then tells Raxl that Susan was
frightened of him.  Philip knocks on the door and asks Cort if he is all right. 
Cort tells him to go away then tells Raxl about seeing the star and being with
Susan when he heard a heartbeat.  It stopped when he found his mother and Jean
Paul.  When Jean Paul left it started again and he almost strangled his mother.
Philip walked in and saved his mother.  Raxl warns him not to trust the Desmonds
because they are not loyal to anyone.

   Emily asks Susan if she has ever seen the mark before.  Susan tells her only
in her dreams but she cannot remember what they are about except for the mark. 
Emily walks from the room to gather some notes in her room as Susan stares at
Jacques portrait.

   Emily meets Philip on the staircase and asks him to stay with Susan.

   Philip enters the Drawing Room and as he begins to speak to Susan his vision
blurs. ‘Susanne tells Philippe that she will not rest until the king sets him
free, Philippe tells her that his brother Jacques will help him.  Susanne shows
him a copy of the pact with the devil that he is accuses of signing.  She tells
him Jacques will swear it is true and informs him that Jacques has already
testified that he plotted to poison the king.’  Philip vision clears and he
tells Susan she should get some rest then asks if she felt anything strange just
now.

   Raxl gives the totem to Cort and he orders her to take it away.  He informs
her that anyone that has come in contact with it has either died or disappeared.
Raxl tells him she will use it to protect him from Philip’s witchcraft.

   Emily works on her notes as Susan looks at the portrait and asks Emily if she
can hear the laughter.

   Jean Paul walks into the Drawing Room and looking at Susan he asks Emily
what’s wrong.  Emily tells him that Susan became upset when she was looking at
the portrait.  Jean Paul suggest getting out and going on a picnic.  Susan
refuses and rushes from the room.  Jean Paul asks Emily to go with him, then
tells her he loves her.  He holds her in his arms and asks her to persuade Susan
and Philip to go with them.

   Raxl arrives at Irene’s cottage and shows her the totem. She tells her it is
Philip’s protection against evil.  Irene backs away and tells her it can only
bring harm to them. When she refuses to help Raxl threatens to expose her as a
witch to her friends at Desmond Hall.

   Emily enters Susan’s room and asks her to join them.  Susan warns Emily that
she is in danger and tells her not to leave the house with Jean Paul.

   Jean Paul stands staring at the portrait as Emily joins him and tells him that
Susan heard the portrait laughing.  She informs him that Susan will not go. 
Jean Paul asks her to stay with Susan while he looks for Philip.  Emily tells
him about the totem being stolen and she thinks Raxl took it.  Jean Paul argues
that Raxl would not harm them.

   Irene lights the candles as Raxl calls upon the Dark Spirits.  She asks that
the totem’s power be given to them then she discovers that the totem protects
Emily.

   Emily clutches her throat and rushes from the room.

   Jean Paul enters Susan’s room and tells her he is worried about her.  He
tinforms her that Emily has locked herself in her room because something
frightened her.  Susan warns him that Emily is in danger.  They talk about
Susan’s parent’s death and Susan apologizes for upsetting Emily.  She tells him
he trust people too much and only sees the good and not the evil in them.
   Raxl knocks on Susan’s door and asks Jean Paul where Emily is.  She found her
door open and Emily was not in her room.  Jean Paul rushes from the room and
Susan stops Raxl from following.

   Emily sits at her desk as Jean Paul enters the Drawing Room and asks what had
frightened her.  She tells him she had a feeling of being suffocated.  Jean Paul
holds her in his arms and tells her he will keep her safe.

   Susan orders Raxl to leave Emily alone and not to come  between Jean Paul and
Emily.  She tells Raxl that she is facing someone that can destroy her then
mentions that her name is not Raxl.  Raxl tells her that her name is not Susan
and when she remembers she will die.  Susan questions which one of them will
die.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 155

   Emily enters Susan’s room as Raxl rushes out.  Emily informs Susan that she
and Jean Paul are in love.  Susan warns her that being with Jean Paul could be
dangerous.

   Raxl stands in front of Jacques portrait and silently asks what she should do
then asks for his help.  Jean Paul enters the Drawing Room and Raxl warns him
that Philip is dragging him into the past and reminds him of the pact he made on
Maljardin.

   Raxl walks through the foyer and Cort stops her.  She tells him she has an
errand to run.

   Cort enters the Drawing Room and tells Jean Paul the portrait wasn’t at
Desmond Hall until he arrived.  He then asks Jean Paul for his inheritance. 
Jean Paul informs him that he has to wait until he turns 25.

   Raxl arrives at the cottage and orders Irene to light the candles. She tells
Irene that she must make her request in private.  Irene warns her that the
powers could destroy her then walks from the room. Raxl calls to the powers of
darkness to return Jean Paul to her or choose a new Master for her.

   Jean Paul tells Cort to be grateful for the life he has because he doesn’t
have to fear the coming of each night.  Jean Paul glances up at the portrait as
he hears Jacques laughter.  He stares at the portrait then rushes from the room.
Cort glances at the portrait as laughter fills the room.

   Emily enters Jean Paul’s room and tells him she is worried because Philip has
not returned.  She asks him to speak to Raxl about the missing totem and asks
why he is protecting her.  Jean Paul reminds Emily that Raxl buried the girl he
killed.  Emily tells him that she will try to make friends with Raxl.  Jean Paul
asks her to marry him and Emily accepts.

   Cort enters Susan‘s room and mentions that Jacques portrait appeared the day
she arrived.  Then he asks about Claude.

   Raxl asks the spirit to come between Jean Paul and Philip and  Jean Paul and
Emily.

   Emily pulls away from Jean Paul telling him something is trying to warn her. 
They speak about their marriage as Cort listens at the door.

   Raxl orders Irene to protect the totem because it links their powers to the
Dark Spirit.
Cort knocks and enters the cottage.  He asks to speak to Raxl.  Irene leaves the
room and Cort tells Raxl to give the totem back to Emily before Philip finds out
she has it.

   Susan joins Emily in the Drawing room.  Emily informs her that Philip has not
returned.  Susan apologizes for the things she said earlier then warns of a
force in the house that sets them against each other.

   In his room Jean Paul informs Raxl that he and Emily are to be married and
asks Raxl to make an effort to get along with Emily.

   Cort joins Emily in the Drawing Room and they speak about Raxl.  Raxl enters
and  angrily tells Emily to ask her if she wants to know anything about her. 
Emily asks her about the totem and the document Philip took from her.  After
Emily walks from the room Cort complains that he will not be the Master of
Desmond Hall now that Jean Paul and Emily are to be married.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 156

Cort listens at the door as Raxl speaks to the portrait.  Philip returns to
Desmond Hall and Cort greets him with sarcasm as he informs Philip that Emily is
marrying Jean Paul.

   Philip enters the Drawing Room and informs Raxl that he is only trying to
protect Jean Paul and asks where she was when Jean Paul tried to kill him.  Raxl
questions if Orendo can protect Jean Paul.  Philip demands the totem back and
threatens to tear Desmond Hall apart to find it.  Raxl informs him the totem is
not at Desmond Hall.  Philip mentions seeing her enter Irene’s cottage.

   Jean Paul informs Emily that Raxl was pleased with news of their marriage. 
Emily mentions her confrontation with Raxl in the Drawing Room.

   Raxl enters Cort’s room.  He orders her to apologize to Emily.

   Emily discovers Philip is back and tells him about her marriage.  Philip tells
her that Cort has already told him and asks why can’t they wait until they are
sure Jean Paul is free.  Emily tells him he can stay and protect Jean Paul. 
Philip tells her he cannot spend his life protecting Jean Paul.  Emily tells him
that he should leave Desmond Hall and walks from the room.

   Emily knocks on Cort’s door and enters.  She asks Cort why he told Philip
about the marriage before she could talk to him.  Cort informs her that another
Desmond secret is revealed and asks her to find out what happens when a woman
marries a Desmond.

   Jean Paul informs Raxl that she must make friends with Emily as Philip walks
into the room.  Philip takes the mask from the drawer as Raxl tries to rush from
the room.  He calls upon Orendo to get the truth from Raxl as Cort enters the
room.  She begs Cort to help her than rushes from the room.  Cort looks at the
mask and asks what are they are doing.  He tells them he feels sorry for Emily
then walks from the room.

   Philip puts the mask away and turns away from Jean Paul.  Jean Paul apologizes
about the marriage between him and Emily.  Philip tells him that Emily is
marrying into a family that is cursed.

   Cort questions Raxl about the mask.  She informs him that it brings an evil
spirit that works against them.  Cort threatens to tell Jean Paul and Philip
that she has the totem when she won’t answer his questions.  Raxl tells him he
must trust her.  Cort asks why was she at  Irenes.  Raxl informs him that Irene
is under her control.  Cort warns her that Irene cannot be trusted because she
is a member of a witch’s coven.

    Jean Paul asks if he can ever marry and Philip reminds him about what
happened to Erica and warns him that the same fate can come to Emily.

   As Raxl walks through the foyer Emily stops her and apologizes and asks to be
friends.  Raxl informs her that Jean Paul will never find happiness in marriage.
She tells Emily to ask Ada about her parents and her Uncle Benjamin.  Then ask
Jean Paul about his parents and grandparents

   Philip takes out the mask and calls on Orendo to help find out the truth.  He
gets no response from the mask and tells Jean  Paul that Orendo is angry because
he has lost the totem.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 157

   Jean Paul tells Philip that they must get the totem back.  Philip accuses Raxl
of taking it.  Jean Paul mentions that the wedding will have to be postponed and
wonders how he can tell Emily.

   Ada joins Emily in the Drawing Room and Emily asks about Ada’s parents.  Ada
tells her that her father went on a business trip to France and they received
word that he had died.  And later her mother died and she came to live at
Desmond Hall.   Emily asks her about Jean Paul’s parents.  Ada tells her just to
be content with marrying Jean Paul and make him happy.  Jean Paul joins them and
Ada asks if she can help with the wedding plans.

   After Ada leaves the room Jean Paul closes the door and informs Emily that
they must postpone the wedding.  He then asks if she has seen Raxl.  Emily asks
him about his mother and grandmother.    Jean Paul tells her that Raxl and Cort
are trying to frighten her and asks her to trust him.

   In his room Cort speaks to Laslo about Jean Paul marriage and  tells him that
Jean Paul will take an interest in the Desmond affairs and Cort will lose out if
Jean Paul has children.  He asks Laslo to join with him against Jean Paul.

   Jean Paul and Philip meet in the foyer and Jean Paul informs him that Raxl has
gone out.  He asks Philip to tell Emily the truth about the mark.

   Emily sits in the Drawing Room as tears run down her face.  Philip enters and
Emily asks him to go away.  When he tells her about the totem she blames
herself.  Philip tells her to go ahead with plans for the wedding but don’t set
the date.
   Philip informs her that the totem is not in Raxl’s room.  Emily suggests
asking Cort because he is always with her.  Philip warns her that the star may
have passed to Cort and he might be the new Master of Desmond Hall.  Emily begs
Philip to not allow it to happen because Jean Paul will die.

   Ada enters Cort’s room and thanks him for being nice to Laslo and asks him not
to spend so much time with Raxl.  Cort informs her that Raxl is lonely because
Jean Paul spends his time with Emily and Philip.  Ada tells him she remind her
of Benjamin Desmond’s housekeeper.  She tells him that his Grandfather and Uncle
Benjamin were interested in magic and the black arts. Her father had a bookcase
filled with books on potions and spells.

   Laslo congratulated Emily and Jean Paul then walks up the staircase.  Jean
Paul asks Emily if he is forgiven as he holds her in his arms.  He tells her he
didn’t find Raxl and invites her to go for a drive with him.

   Laslo enters the Drawing Room as Ada follows with a tray of glasses filled
with champagne and asks where Jean Paul and Emily are.  Laslo looks out the
window and tells her they have gone for a drive.  Philip enters and asks about
Jean Paul and Laslo tells him they have gone out.  Ada offers Philip a glass of
champagne and mentions it looks like just the three of them are celebrating the
news of Jean Paul’s wedding.  Philip walks from the room as he mentions he will
get Susan.  He steps outside and looks at the night sky.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 158

   Philip stares at the sky then steps back inside.

   Susan is looking over charts as Philip knocks and enters her room.  Philip
invites her to join Laslo and Ada downstairs.  Susan informs him she doesn’t
like the Drawing Room.  Philip tells her they are celebrating Jean Paul and
Emily’s engagement.  Susan asks him to stop Emily from marrying Jean Paul.  
Philip walks from the room after calling her a child.

   Ada asks Laslo to take Cort with him to the office and introduce him around
because they will be working together.  Laslo asks her to sign a power of
attorney over her affairs.  Ada mentions she will speak to Jean Paul about it. 
Laslo tells her not to involve Jean Paul.  Philip joins them and Ada walks from
the room.
   Laslo asks Philip if he will be leaving soon then asks if he is staying
because of an interest in Susan.  Philip tells him to stay out of his personal
affairs then walks from the room.

   Jean Paul and Emily arrive back at Desmond Hall and Laslo joins them.  He
tells them that Cort is out for the night and Susan is upstairs because she
doesn’t feel well.  Emily walks up the staircase and tells them she will check
on Susan.

   In the Drawing Room Laslo mentions Cort’s fortune and asks if it would be
better if he received part of it before Jean Paul marries.  Jean   Paul mentions
that after he is married he will take a more active part in the Desmond affairs
relieving Laslo of the responsibility.
   Susan tells Emily that she is fine and she used an excuse to get out of having
a drink with Laslo.  Susan asks about the wedding plans.  Emily informs her they
have not set a date.  Emily tells Susan she hopes she finds someone special then
mentions Philip.  Susan tells her Philip is marked for unhappiness then tells
her something terrible is going to happen to Philip.  Emily tells her they must
warn him and Susan tells her it has already happened but in the past when she
became someone else.  Emily questions if it involved the Mark of Death.  Susan
informs her she has only seen the mark on Cort’s face.  Then mentions that both
Cort and Raxl are in her dreams.  Emily asks her to come to her if it happens
again.

   Ada enters Jean Paul’s room and asks him about power of attorney.  Jean Paul
explains it to her then suggests she speak to her lawyer before she signs one. 
Philip stands in the doorway and Ada excuses herself then walks from the room.
Philip asks if he had seen Raxl when he and Emily were out.  Jean Paul tells him
no and Philip asks if Irene is a friend of Raxl‘ because he saw her enter her
cottage.

   Emily stops Philip in the hallway and apologizes for what she had said to him
earlier.  Philip tells her he thinks he knows where Raxl is and asks her to stay
with Jean Paul and call to Orendo if they feel threatened.

   Standing in the hallway Susan calls to Emily.  Emily rushes to her and Suan
pulls her into her room and asks her to stay with her.  Susan rushes to the
window and tells Emily the star is out and warns her to stay away from Jean Paul
tonight.

   Jean Paul enters the Drawing Room and Laslo joins him.  Jean  Paul informs him
that Ada came to him about signing a power of attorney and he advised her to
speak to her lawyer.  Laslo asks about Cort receiving his part of the estate
now.  Jean Paul informs him Cort’s inheritance is held in trust.  Ada enters the
Drawing Room and asks Jean Paul to tell the others that dinner is ready.
   Laslo mention the power of attorney and Ada informs him she has decided to
retain control of her income and when she dies it all goes to Cort.

   Susan informs Emily that the star is gone as Jean Paul knocks on the door and
announces dinner.

   As Jean Paul walks down the hallway he hears the heartbeat and rushes inside
his room locking the door.  Emily knocks on the door and Jean Paul tells her to
go downstairs with Susan and wait for Philip.  He rushes to the window and sees
the star in the sky.  He turns and falls across the bed.

   Jean Paul retrieves the mask from the drawer and calls to Orendo for help.

   Philip arrives at Irene’s cottage telling her he has come for a visit.  He
questions her on how she knows about the wedding when it hasn’t been announced. 
Then tells her he saw Raxl come to the cottage.  Irene denies it as Philip asks
if Raxl is here now.   Irene informs him that Raxl only stopped by to deliver a
message. Philip questions why she had lied as he looks around the room and walks
to her altar.  He tells her they have something in common, an interest in
rituals.  Philip orders her to light the candles and Irene refuses.  Philip
begins to light them himself and Irene becomes upset.

   Emily enters the Drawing Room followed by Susan.  Susan warns her not to go to
Jean Paul because the star is out.  Emily rushes from the room..  Susan glances
at Jacques portrait as she hears a heartbeat then follows Emily.

   Jean Paul holds his head in agony then asks Orendo what he need to promise to
gain his help.  Jacques laughter fills the room and Jean Paul calls out for
Jacques to release him.  Emily knocks on the door and Jean Paul tells her to run
away.
   Emily and Susan stand in the hallway and Emily tells Jean Paul to let Orendo
in.  Jean Paul opens the door and informs them he will never be free.  Susan
tells him the laughter and heartbeat has stopped.  Looking outside she mentions
that the star is gone.  Jean Paul tells her it will be back.

   Philip orders Irene to speak to her evil spirits.  She denies being involved
and Philip calls on them himself.  He calls to Uthco to sicken the one that has
the totem, lose their breath and sink to the floor.  Philip watches Irene as she
falls to the floor.

   The heartbeat begins and Jean Paul tells Emily and Susan to lock him in. 
Emily tells him to call on Orendo for his protection.  He speaks to the mask
then he tells them he needs Philip.  Susan sends Emily to call Philip and tell
him he needs to come back at once.

   Irene stirs and sits up holding her head.  She stands and Philip tells her he
wants the totem back.  Irene denies having it and Philip informs her that Orendo
spoke and could not have without the totem being near.  Irene reaches under the
altar and holds out the totem.

   Jean Paul warns Susan she should not be here with him.  Susan tells him she is
part of what is taking place at Desmond Hall.  Jean Paul’s vision blurs as they
go back in the past.
   ‘Susanne begs Jacques to tell the truth about Philippe.  Jacques laughs and
tells her it will cost him his life if he does.  Susanne curses him and Jacques
laughs.’
   Susan informs Jean Paul that the star led her here to help.

   Emily places a call to Irene’s cottage..  Philip takes the phone from Irene
and tells Emily he has the totem and go to Jean Paul and speak to Orendo.

   Jean Paul calls to Orendo and tears flow from the eyes of the mask.

   Philip informs Irene that when she light the candles she will be under
Orendo’s bidding.  He then tells her that Raxl is now powerless.

   Susan rushes to the window and tells Jean Paul the star is back out.  Jean
Paul asks Orendo to help him.

   Philip leaves the cottage as Raxl steps out from the back room.  Irene asks
her to help speak to the spirits.  Raxl discovers that the totem is gone.  Irene
accuses Raxl of taking it then tells her the spirits took it in anger.  Raxl
questions if there were any visitors.  She then orders Irene to light the
candles and Irene refuses.

   Philip stands in the hallway and tells Jean Paul that he has the totem and
asks to speak to Emily alone.  Emily joins him and he tells her to show Raxl the
totem but don’t explain how she got it as he hands it to her..

   Susan stands across the room from Jean Paul and asks if he felt something
strange like he was a different person in a different time.  Jean Paul replies
it was as if time had stood still.  Susan asks if he thinks she is insane. 
Philip  enters the room and asks Susan to join Emily.  Jean Paul tells Philip
that Orendo spoke without him being here.  Philip tells him he found the totem
at Irene's and Raxl had taken it.  He calls to Orendo as he works to rid Jean
Paul of the star.

   Susan joins Emily in the Drawing Room and tells her she had another vision
from the past with someone that looked like Jean Paul but he was evil and made
threats against his brother.  Emily tells Susan that Jean Paul had a brother
that died before she came to Desmond Hall.

   Cort arrives at Desmond Hall and notices the star in the sky.  He enters the
Drawing Room and asks Susan if she fears for her safety.  He steps towards
Jacques portrait and tells her it’s almost like he is alive then repeats the
words that Jacques had said to Susanne.

   Raxl calls upon the spirits and Irene tells her she refuses to continue until
the totem is back.  Raxl glances at the window and seeing the star she tells
Irene that she has to go.

   Jean Paul informs Philip that the star is out again then mentions that the
heartbeat has started.  Philip calls to Orendo asking for the drumbeat to drown
out the heartbeat.

   Susan tells Cort she has heard those words before by someone else.  Jacques
begins to laugh as Susan and Cort both look at the portrait.  Cort hears the
heartbeat and rushes from the room.  Susan rushes to the doorway as Jacques
continues to laugh.

   Susan joins Cort in his room and Cort asks her about the laughter.  He asks if
she can hear the heartbeat.  Susan denies hearing it as Raxl rushes into the
room and orders Susan to leave.  Raxl tells Cort to follow his star.  Cort tells
her the heartbeat terrifies him.  Raxl tells him to stay in the room and she
will send the instrument through which he will achieve his destiny.

   Irene lights the candles and asks for protection from Raxl.

   Emily enters the Drawing rRoom and Raxl joins her.  Emily tells her she found
the totem.  Raxl mentions the document and the sign at the bottom of the page
and tells her that Cort can answer questions about it.

   Jean Paul discovers the Mark of Death on his hand and pulls away from Philip. 
Philip grips his hand and leads him to the mask and holds Jean Paul’s hand in
front of the mask.  He calls to Orendo to remove the mark forever.  The mark
fades and disappears.

   Emily enters Cort’s room and tells him that Raxl sent her because he can tell
her about the Mark of Death.  Cort notices the mark on his hand and walks
towards Emily.  He claims it is all her fault, that she brought it to him.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 161

   Emily notices the Mark of Death as Cort walks towards her.  She raises the
totem and calls on Orendo.  Cort collapses at her feet.

   Raxl stands in front of Jacques portrait and asks for protection.  The
heartbeat sounds in the room and Raxl tells him she will stop the wedding and
destroy Philippe.  The heartbeat becomes silent.

   Emily calls to Cort as Philip enters the room.  Emily tells him what happened
and Philip sends her from the room.
   Philip helps Cort to his bed and informs him that Emily is dead then questions
him on why he killed her.  Philip tells Cort he is going to call the police.

   Raxl questions Jacques on why the heartbeat stopped then notices the star is
gone.  Philip stands in the doorway and asks Raxl about Emily.  Raxl informs him
that she has not seen her.  Philip accuses her of lying and sending Emily to her
death.  He informs her he is calling the police because Cort has confessed.

   Raxl follows him into the foyer as Cort calls to her from the staircase.  She
rushes outside and Cort goes after her.  Emily stands at the top of the
staircase and Philip tells her to go back to her room.

   Raxl arrives at Irene’s cottage and asks for help.   Irene tells her to go
back to Desmond Hall.  When Raxl threatens her Irene agrees that she can stay.

   Philip takes Emily to Cort’s room and informs her that Jean Paul is free of
the star.  Cort is now cursed and they can save him through Orendo’s protection.
He tells her that Raxl and Cort both believe that she is dead.

   Raxl lights the candles and calls on the Dark spirits.  The candles blow out
and Irene becomes upset.
   Cort enters the cottage and blames Raxl for Emily’s death.  Raxl orders Irene
from the room.  She tells Cort he will follow the will of her master every time
the star appears or she will inform the police that he killed Emily and Agatha
Pruett. .  Cort threatens to kill Raxl.

   Philip calls on Orendo to protect Emily.  Tears run down the face of the mask
and Philip informs her she is under Orendo’s protection.  He speaks to Orendo
silently that he is going to confront the evil that is harming his people.  The
drumbeat fills the air in response.

   Raxl calls to Cort as she walks through the woods.  After she walks away Cort
steps forward and notices the star.  He rushes away when the heartbeat starts.

   Philip enters Irene’s cottage and informs Irene that Emily has been murdered
and asks about Cort.  Irene mentions that Cort came to see Raxl and they both
left.

   Philip finds Cort and forces him to go back to Desmond Hall as Raxl stands and
watches.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 163

   Jean Paul discovers the mask is gone and rushes into the hallway.  He meets
Ada  and asks about Philip.  She informs him that Philip has gone out.

   Ada carries a breakfast tray into Cort’s room and asks him about the mask. 
She informs him she must go to Irene’s cottage and apologize.  Cort asks her not
to go.

   Irene enters the cottage and informs Raxl that Cort has implicated her in
Emily‘s murder.  Raxl tells her she must go to Jean Paul and warns Irene not to
betray her.

   Jean Paul joins Susan in the Drawing Room and asks if she has seen the mask. 
Susan informs him he no longer needs it and tells him to talk to Cort because he
has seen the star.

   Jean Paul questions Cort about the mask.  Cort denies having seen it.  Jean
Paul asks him about the star.  Cort tells him Philip brought him the mask and
placed it in the drawer.

   Ada joins Susan in the Drawing Room and they speak of Ada’s father.  Susan
questions if Ada’s father is really dead.

   Jean Paul calls to Orendo to demand the truth from Cort.  Cort tells him he
tried to kill Emily last night.  Jean Paul threatens him with death if Emily is
injured.  Cort informs him that Philip is setting a trap for Raxl because she
sent Emily to him when the star was out.  Jean Paul tells him the curse will end
with himself.

   Jean Paul arrives at Irene’s cottage and asks Raxl why she left Desmond Hall. 
He blames Emily's death on her leaving and asks her to help Cort.  Raxl refuses
and Jean Paul questions who really killed Agatha and the others.  He asks her to
come back with him.  Raxl tells him to send Philip away and things could go back
the way they were.  Jean Paul agrees to the star coming back to him.

   Susan stares into the fire and tells Ada that her father will return if she
changes the wrongs she has done to others.

   Raxl and Jean Paul enter Jean Paul’s room and Raxl tells him not to believe
anything Cort says because he wants Desmond Hall for himself.

   Ada arrives at the cottage and informs Irene that she knows the truth about
Cort tricking Laslo and her and apologizes.  Irene tells her she should have
stayed at Desmond Hall because of Emily’s death.  Ada informs her that Emily is
alive.  Irene asks to come back to Desmond Hall with her.

   Jean Paul enters Cort’s room and wakes him.  Raxl follows him into the room
and Cort pulls away in fear.  He accuses Raxl of sending Emily to her death. 
Jean Paul tells him he already knows and Raxl realizes a trap was set and
threatens them both with death.

   Raxl reminds Cort that it was he that killed Emily.  Jean Paul questions Cort
and Raxl claims that he is lying.  She calls on the Dark Spirits and Cort rushes
from the room in fear.  Jean Paul uncovers the mask and demands that Raxl tell
the truth.

   Cort rushes to Susan’s room and begs her to help break the spell.  When she
says she doesn’t know how Cort asks her to speak to the portrait.

   Ada and Irene enter Desmond Hall and Ada wonders how a story of Emily’s death
could have started.  She asks Irene to wait in the Drawing Room then walks up
the staircase to find Emily.

   Raxl accuses Jean Paul of deceiving her with Philip and the mask.  Jean Paul
blames her for making him a murderer.  Raxl reminds him that he was the one to
make the pact with Jacques.  Jean Paul realizes that Raxl is the keeper of the
curse and informs her the curse will die with him.  Raxl warns him that the mask
cannot protect him since he knows the truth.

   Susan rushes into the Drawing Room and stares at the portrait.  Irene tries to
speak to her and Susan informs her that someone is coming down the staircase.

   Irene walks into the foyer and meets Raxl . Irene informs her that Emily is
alive.  Raxl turns and rushes up the staircase.

   Jean Paul speaks to Orendo and asks for Raxl to be sent back to him.  Raxl
rushes into the room and tells him she knows the truth about Emily.  She warns
him that the star belongs to no one and all Desmonds will suffer.  She walks
from the room and Jean Paul rushes after her.

   Ada stops Jean Paul from following and tells him that Irene is waiting
downstairs.  She informs him about the story that is being told of Emily being
dead.  He asks her to wait for Cort and he will speak to Irene.

   Raxl enters the secret room and calls to Jacques.

   Irene speaks to Susan about Jacques portrait as Jacques begins to laugh. 
Susan backs away in fear then rushes from the room.

   Ada questions Cort on why Irene thought Emily was dead.  Cort tells her not to
get involved.   Ada becomes worried that Cort will die as her father and Uncle
Benjamin did.

   Jean Paul joins Irene in the Drawing Room.  She tells him about Susan acting
strangely.  Jean Paul asks her to come back and visit on another day.  Irene
refuses and asks to see Emily.  He tells her that Emily isn’t well and Irene
walks from the room in anger.

   Susan enters her room to find Ada waiting for her.  As she looks at Ada her
vision blurs
‘Susanne informs Madame Le Contese Des Mondes that her son Jacques is an evil
man.  She pleads with her to speak up against Jacques because he is turning the
king against his brother Philippe.  Madame Des Mondes tells her she doesn’t
believe it and walks away.’
Ada asks Susan to help Cort then questions her if it is true about her father
being alive.

   Jean Paul and Cort stand in front of the mask as Jean Paul calls to Orendo
asking for protection.

   In the secret room Raxl asks Jacques for an ally to be sent to her.

     STRANGE PARADISE EPISODE 165

   A stranger shows up at Desmond Hall and announces himself as Ada’s father. 
Ada questions him on where he has been.  He explains he lost his memory after
the accident on the boat and it’s just the last few years that he can recall
anything of his life.

   Ada shows him into the Drawing Room and introduces him to Emily.  Ada tells
him that Emily is marrying his nephew Jean Paul Desmond and tells him he has a
grandson.  Emily leaves the room to find Cort.

   Emily stops at Jean Paul‘s room to find Philip.  She tells him about the
visitor and she is looking for Cort.  Philip tells her that Jean Paul and Cort
are in the tower room waiting for the night to end.  Philip questions if it is
really Ada’s father as he holds the mask.

   Susan stands in the doorway of the Drawing Room and stares at the stranger. 
She turns away and Ada joins her.  Susan tells Ada that the stranger is not her
father then rushes up the staircase.

   Ada joins her father and he questions her about Susan.  Ada tells him Susan
thinks she has met him somewhere and that he is not her father.  He claims that
Susan might have met him in one of the hospitals he was in.

   Susan rushes into Jean Paul’s room and tells Philip that the man downstairs is
not Ada’s father.

   Emily enters the Drawing Room and informs them that she cannot find Cort or
Jean Paul.  Ada leaves the room to look for Cort.  Emily tells Julian Desmond
that she came to Desmond Hall to write a book about the Desmonds.  Julian talks
about his marriage to Ada’s mother and asks Emily if she is strong enough to
marry into the Desmond family.

   Ada questions Philip about Cort’s whereabouts.  Philip tells her Cort and Jean
Paul went to town after dinner and tells her they should wait downstairs for
them.

   Emily tells Julian that everyone is against the marriage but she plans on
going through with it then walks from the room.

   Ada joins her father and informs him that Jean Paul and Cort are out.  Julian
asks about Ada’s husband as Philip enters the Drawing room.  Ada leaves the room
to prepare a room for her father.  When Julian mistakes him for Jean Paul’s
brother Philip explains that his part of the family settled in the north. 
Julian mentions that Philip’s grandfather married an Indian.  Philip stares at
him and Julian excuses himself as he walks from the room.

   Ada enters Susan’s room accusing her of being rude to her father.  Susan
apologizes then becomes upset when Ada mentions she might have met her father in
a mental hospital.

   Emily joins Philip in Jean Paul’s room.  She tells him about Julian saying she
should not marry Jean Paul unless she is strong enough to face the Desmond
legacy.   Philip tells her that Julian knows a lot about his family then
questions if he is really Ada‘s father.  He sends Emily to her room and calls to
Orendo asking if the stranger is the emissary sent to him.

   Susan looks out the window and sees the star.  Julian stands in the doorway
and asks if their star is out.

   Julian explains that he was looking for his room.  Susan apologizes for her
behavior earlier and volunteers to look for Ada for him.

   Philip calls to Orendo and asks for the identity of the stranger but receives
no answer.

   Susan finds Ada in the Drawing Room and tells her she was mistaken about
meeting Julian.

   Philip leaves his room and Julian steps inside and finds the mask and speaks
to it.

   Ada and Susan enter Susan’s room to discover that Julian is not there.

   Julian places the mask back and hides behind the drapes when he hears voices
outside the door.

   Cort, Philip and Jean Paul enter the room and Jean Paul informs Cort they will
meet Julian Desmond then go back to the tower room.  As they step into the
hallway Philip informs Jean Paul that he sent Emily to her room.

   Julian collects the mask and carries it from the room.

   Jean Paul and Cort enter the Drawing Room to find it empty.  Ada joins them
and questions where they have been.  Julian steps into the room and Ada
introduces him to Jean Paul and Cort.  Julian asks to speak to Cort alone and
Jean Paul follows Ada from the room.  Julian mentions that Cort could be the end
of the Desmond line and as they talk Jacques begins to laugh.  Cort flinches,
then he walks to the portrait and stares at it.  Julian mentions his dislike of
the portrait as Jacques continues to laugh.  Cort covers his ears and sits on
the couch.    Cort tells him he feels like he is going insane and mentions that
laughter is coming from the portrait.  Jacques continues to laugh and Cort
rushes from the room.

   Philip enters Susan’s room and she tells him that Julian mentioned the star.

   Ada meets Cort in the hallway and asks why Julian didn’t come upstairs with
him.

   Jean Paul looks out the window and sees the star.  He discovers that the mask
is missing.  He steps to his door and calls for Philip.  Philip enters the room
and Jean Paul informs him that the mask is gone.  Philip wonders if Cort could
have taken it.  Jean Paul tells him that the star is out.  Philip tells him he
must leave Desmond Hall and find another way to help them and until he does they
are at the mercy of the star.

   Cort enter Susan’s room and informs her that he heard the laughter from the
portrait again.  She tells him the star is out and Julian saw it.  Cort leaves
the room to look for Jean Paul.

   Jean Paul rushes into the Drawing Room looking for Cort and finds Julian. 
Julian asks him to stay and talk to him.  Jean Paul tells him that he had lived
on Maljardin.  Julian mentions that Jacques portrait had once hung at Maljardin
and his brother Benjamin said it talked to him.  Jean Paul glances at the
portrait as he hears the heartbeat.  He excuses himself and rushes from the
room.

   Jean Paul rushes into his room to discover Cort waiting for him.  He tells
Cort he must leave for his own safety.  Cort tells him he hears the heartbeat
and wants to stay because Orendo will protect them.  Jean Paul informs him that
Orendo is gone.

   Julian walks through the hallway carrying the mask.

   Jean Paul informs Cort that Philip has left to find another way to help.  Cort
confesses that he was plotting against Jean Paul to gain control of the Desmond
fortune.   Cort also tells him about Irene’s involvement as she tried to use
Emily to carry out her plans.   Jean Paul tells him of the pact he made with
evil to bring his wife back from the dead.  He asks Cort to go to his own room
because he has a plan to keep them safe through the night.

   Julian joins Raxl in the secret room carrying the mask.  Raxl pulls away in
fear.  Julian informs her that he was sent to instruct her so she can accomplish
their mission.

   Jean Paul enters Cort’s room carrying rope.  He ties Cort to a chair and tells
him he will have Philip do the same to him when he returns.  Stepping outside he
locks the door and slides the key under the door.

   Julian calls to Orendo and Raxl informs him that he is not using the correct
words.  He asks what should be said and she apologizes for not knowing as she
calls him Monsieur Le’Conte.

   Laslo enters Desmond Hall and meets Jean Paul in the foyer. They enter the
Drawing Room and Laslo tells him he saw Philip out walking in the storm.  Jean
Paul tells him about Ada’s father arriving.  Laslo mentions the men in the
office would look in his direction and stop talking.   He thought he heard
Philip and Emily’s name mentioned.  Jean Paul informs him that Irene was at
Desmond Hall and could have started rumors.  Laslo leaves the room and Jean Paul
glances out the window and sees the star.

   Julian informs Raxl that he must return the mask until they find they way to
use it.  Raxl tells him she will bring Cort because he knows what to do.  Julian
orders her to also bring the totem.

   As Raxl unlocks Cort’s door Laslo confronts her.  When she tells him she is
checking on Cort he orders her to go to her room and he will take care of Cort. 
Raxl steps away and Laslo enters Cort’s room.  Raxl walks to the door and
listens.

   Laslo discovers Cort tied in a chair and Cort explains that he and Raxl were
playing a game to see if he could escape.  Laslo unties him and threatens to
tell his mother.  He asks Cort about their partnership to get the Desmond
fortune.  Cort tells him he has changed his mind then walks from the room.

   Raxl watches Cort walk down the hallway then enters the room.  Laslo angrily
tells her to stop playing silly games with Cort then asks why she has been going
to Irene’s cottage.

   Cort joins Jean Paul in the Drawing Room and informs him that Raxl unlocked
the door and Laslo entered and untied him.  They walk from the room to look for
Raxl.

   In the secret room Julian holds the mask and speaks to Gagossa as Jean Paul
and Cort enter.

   Jean Paul asks Julian  how he got inside the secret room.  Julian informs him
that he and his brothers played in the room when they were boys.  Julian denies
seeing anyone in the room when he entered.  Cort rushes out to look for Raxl. 
Julian stops Jean Paul from following him claiming Cort will be safe.  Julian
mentions that he was under the star’s influence and it left him and went to his
brothers when he gave up his family and the Desmond fortune.  Jean Paul notices
the mask and Julian claims it was in the room when he entered.  Julian gives the
mask to Jean Paul and asks to be left alone because the room helps to bring back
his memories.

   Ada enters Cort’s room to find Laslo inside.  He questions Ada on why Irene
came to Desmond Hall.  Ada informs him that Cort confessed to tricking him into
going to Irene’s.   She then tells him about the rumor of Emily’s death.  Laslo
asks why Ada didn’t call him about her fathers’ arrival.

   Raxl stands in front of Jacques portrait and asks who the stranger really is. 
Cort stands in the doorway and threatens to call the police for her involvement
with his attempt to kill Emily.  Raxl tells him that before he does he should
know that Jean Paul is guilty of much more and asks if he wants to take his
place.  Cort rushes from the room as Julian joins Raxl and orders her to set
Cort free.  Ada and Laslo join them and Raxl excuses herself and walks from the
room.  Ada introduces Laslo to Julian.

   Jean Paul stands in his room and looks at the mask.  Cort informs him that the
star is gone and the heartbeat has stopped.  Then he tells him that Raxl accused
him of being a murderer. Jean Paul calls to Orendo to protect them.

   Raxl enters the secret room and discovers that the mask is gone.  Julian steps
from the shadows and tells her that the mask disappeared as he was speaking to
it.  He tells her that everything that is happening is because she is using one
Desmond against another.  He informs her he has come to take her back to the
Master.  Raxl backs away in fear.

   Laslo knocks on Jean Paul’s door and asks to speak to Cort.

   Julian meets Ada in the hallway and asks her to show him to his room.

   Entering Cort’s room Laslo asks Cort what he was doing at Irene’s and why he
told her that Emily was dead.  Cort denies it and orders Laslo from his room.

   Raxl claims that Monsieur Le’Conte (Julian) cannot take her back if she
refuses to go.  He tells her because she involved Irene that she has lost her
powers.

   Laslo enters Jean Paul’s room and warns him that Cort is planning on accusing
him of a crime that could send him to the gallows.  When Jean Paul tells him he
is going to face Cort with the accusation Laslo stops him.  Jean Paul states
that Laslo is lying.  Laslo angrily leaves the room.  Jean Paul walks to the
window and discovers the star is back.  He backs away as the heartbeat starts
and walks into the hallway.

   Raxl call out for another ally to be sent to her.  The door to the secret room
opens and Jean Paul steps inside.

   Jean Paul informs Raxl that he will end everything here tonight.  Raxl tells
him he will live as long as he serves the Master and sends Philip back to his
people.  And he must give up Emily..  Jean Paul demands that she release Cort
from the influence of the star.  He tells her the heartbeat has come back to
him.  Raxl tells him that once it has left it cannot return to him.  Jean Paul
asks if it has left her,  then walks from the room.

   Cort hears the heartbeat and calls out for help.  Susan rushes into his room
and Cort asks for Jean Paul.  Susan tells him that the star is caught between
two forces.  Cort blames Raxl and tells her to leave his room for her own
safety.  Susan tells him it is not time for her to die and steps outside.

   Laslo meets her in the hallway and Susan warns him not to go near Cort if he
wants to be safe.  She turns and walks away.

   Laslo reaches for the door as Jean Paul stops him and tells him to leave Cort
alone.  He steps around Laslo and enters Cort’s room closing the door behind
him.

   Jean Paul tells Cort as long as they are together they may be able to fight
the star’s influence.  Cort asks if Orendo can help them.  Jean Paul tells him
that Orendo cannot reveal their enemy and asks if it is true that he asked Laslo
to help gain control of the Desmond fortune.  Cort tells him it was true but not
now. Cort tells him that Laslo and Irene have been plotting against him.  Jean
Paul informs him that he will deal with Laslo.

   Susan enters the Drawing Room and joins Laslo.  He asks why she really came to
Desmond Hall if she were after the Desmond fortune.  Susan calls him wicked and
walks from the room.

   Raxl enters the Drawing Room and warns Laslo to beware of Cort tonight.  She
tells him Cort was going to kill Emily and blame Jean Paul.  She tells him about
the Desmond curse that leads the Desmonds to their death claiming that the
stranger is not Ada’s father because he died in a fire aboard a ship.  She
wonders if there is a connection between Susan and the stranger.  Laslo walks
from the room and tells her he is going to find out the truth.

   Susan enters the Drawing Room and calls Raxl Madame Ne’Ware and informs her
that her memories of another time are coming back.  She tells her the star has
led her to her.

   Laslo enters Jean Paul’s room and asks why they were spreading a story of
Emily being killed and who he and Philip were trying to trap.    He tells Jean
Paul that he should hold off on the marriage because with Julian’s return Jean
Paul may not be the person in charge of the Desmond fortune.  Jean Paul glances
up as the heartbeat sounds.

   Raxl enters Cort’s room and tells him that the star is out.  Cort covers his
ears as the heartbeat sounds.  Raxl raises his hand and shows him the Mark of
Death on his hand.

   Jean Paul stares at Laslo and raises his hand as the Mark of Death appears. 
He walks towards Laslo raising his hands and Laslo backs away in fear.
