Hi there, just a bit of an update.
I had a look at the interviews on Log.tv, and its pretty obvious that they are
reminiscing about the classic series already made, and I definitely couldn't
glean any prospect about anything new which is a pity, but I am grateful for
what we have had. No, no new series!!!
Kind regards,
Steve

Hi there,
Another damn Aussie who rates Stella Street one of the 2 greatest comedies of the last 20 years (with "The Office"). The reason I have had my interest rekindled in the show is that I took the plunge and ordered the first 3 series on DVD from the UK which I have received just today, and have already watched series 1 again. I instantly became a huge fan, and taped most of the episodes during that year and the following one when the show was repeated. I'm afraid Ronni Ancona detracted from the main actors as well.
Anyway Steve, I have a couple of questions for you.
Firstly, is there any news on when the 4th series will become available on DVD?
Secondly, I have read somewhere that the show is being resurrected, initially on a web service last year, and then going on to BBC 2. Have you heard anything?
Anyway, I also love your website, having been cackling for the last 3/4 of an hour, it is a great resource and a real credit to you, and, of course the genius of Phil Cornwell, John Sessions, and Peter Richardson. Keep up the good work
Kind regards,

Yes, in addition to the Stella Street - Series 1 - Complete DVD, which I hope you've all pre-ordered, it has come to my attention that World of Pub is also coming out the week after.

This show never really took off (owing to some bad decisions by the BBC), but I watched it recently and nearly all of it was well above average and very funny. My World of Pub site can be reached from the Stella Street site if you'd like a reminder. It was about the nearest British comedy has got to The Simpsons.

Another chance to see the classic episode with Germaine Greer singing Stand By Your Man!

I've got my preview copy now and I'm sorry to say there are no extras.
They've even used the menus from Series 3, so apparently Alec Guinness
is in it, lol.

Still, I'm glad to be able to watch Series 1 is full quality, finally.
I'd forgotten how funny it was.

I'm surprised that the company doing the 'online publicity' has even
emailed me. It can't be that hard to type "Stella Street" into google,
can it?

As far as I can tell, the release will be the same as the VHS, i.e.
the original TV shows, complete, with one or two minor discrepancies.

Universal Playback haven't responded to my email yet, so all I know
is what's shown at Amazon.

Hello Stella Street

For those of you not already aware, next month sees the release of the complete
Comic Strip
on DVD! This was Peter Richardson's major project, spanning the last 3 decades
(almost) in
which the seeds of Stella Street were sown. Whilst quality is variable, there
are many
undoubted comedy high-points. I think I'm right in saying that this set marks
the first time
some of these episodes have been commercially available.

You can pre-order the set at a huge discount here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007LPLRY/thestellastreetp

Thanks for reading.

If you check the Stella Street site: http://www.stellastreet.com/ , uoi
should find links to the UK vendors, who will ship to Australia. You'll
need a multiregion player, however.

Movie? It's like Soooo old news. Watyched it on the
telly (BBC) when it was on. Bit of a disapointment I
thought. I don't know whether it's out in th UK yet,
let alone your neck of the woods. I'm still waiting
for the series to be bunged on to DVD with all the
bits cut from the videos reinstated. I'm also
conducting a fruitless search for Aunty Jack....

Hello Stella Streeters

A brief update: Phil Cornwell is currently recording a new sitcom for
BBC Radio 4, called The Pits, set in the world of the music business.
Whilst not a classic, it's very listenable. It starts tonight at
1830. You can listen through the website at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

Recordings are taking place on Tuesday nights in London. check
http://www.bbc.co.uk/tickets for information.

Speaking of The Pits, Phil was also in the pisspoor Dead Ringers
election special last night. You didn't miss anything.

That's it for now. Still no news of a series 1 & 2 DVD. I must write
some letters!

Greetings

Antipodean fans of Surbiton's most famous neighbourhood will be
delighted to hear that the DVD should be released there on 07/04/2004,
according to http://www.atlanticdvd.com.au/

As an aside, fans of the world's greatest comedy team (Laurel and

This is a reminder that Stella Street: The Movie will be shown on BBC2 tonight at 22:40. It's a choice programme in the Radio Times.

If you like what you see (and as I've said in my review, I think you will), you'll be very pleased to know that the DVD is available to order online ( http://www.blackstar.co.uk/scp/id/silentfilm/video/item/7000000087409 ), and will be in the shops from Monday.

It looks like this will conclude the saga of Stella Street that began in 1997. Or will it? It's unlikely any more episodes will be made, but the film is getting a cinema release in America, so perhaps this could be the birth of a new US cult as people discover the first three series. John Goldstone (the film's exec producer) is confident the film will do well in America.

When you've seen the film, please let me know what you thought of it. Write a review on IMDB is you like (there's a link from my News page).

See you on the other side, you god damn cracker asses.

Thanks for the reminder Steve.   Looking forward to watching it tonight.

You can WIN the CD.  Competition today in the ABC magazine with IoS (p27)

From the magazine - "Ah, Stella Street.  A parallel universe in which Keith Richards and Mick Jagger have set up shop and spend their days bickering and playing cricket with Joe Pesci.  Phil Cornwell, John Sessions and Ronni Ancona (sic) assume their multiple roles once again in this feature film, inspired by the tv series, and we have 10 copies for you to play for, courtesy of Columbia Tri-Star.  To compete for one, just answer tis, like y'know, really testing question and send it off to us.

Mick and Keith run a shop on Stella Street.  Is it a) a record shop    b) a corner shop   or c) a knocking shop?

I was sent this in NTK (http://www.ntk.net)

Phil "Dead Ringers" Cornwell plays the chirpy
squaddie who entertains his pals with impersonations of
Michael Caine, Mick Jagger, David Bowie etc in DUNKIRK (9pm,
Wed-Fri, BBC2)

So, that may be worth a look.

Also, the Stella Street Movie is going nicely. It is due to be
premiered at the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen, Colorado on 4 March.
Phil Cornwell, John Sessions and Peter Richardson will be there, as
will Ronnie Ancona after helping Jonathan Ross make his snide remarks
about Oscar-winners.

The movie will then be shown on BBC2 on 21 March, before coming out on
22 March on DVD, with a commentary, extras and Hindi subtitles.

I've now seen the movie and it's good. I will write a review over the
weekend.

Take care all

Steve
