This is the first time that I missed (had to work
late Tuesday night). Which "half-naked" clip was it? I
already saw the "photographer" episode (not bad, loved
seeing the reactions of the jealous wives)...was it the
"cardoor?" If so, was she the victim or was she the set-up?
When will it re-air?
Loved tonight's show, w/the interplay between Michael and the correspondent :).
Definitely a much better show this time around (and hey, finally the half-naked
girl clip).
Could anyone tell me from what video the
"international gas-passer" was from? He was on one of the
earlier episodes. <br><br>I remember seeing commercials
to buy the comedy video with him on it, but I don't
remember the name... <br><br>Thanks!
You sound lik you were upset by my comments...but you asked for feedback, and I
gave feedback. Sorry if you didn't like it, or it wasn't what you wanted to
hear - didn't mean to offend or anything.
First off, Michael Ian Black is playing a
character. Pure and simple. As a matter of fact, he's doing
it the way he wants to do it. It was his
idea.<br><br>As for the subtle humor, sarcasm, I thought that's
what he was doing (or did you not notice him touching
the guy driving the truck?)
OK, for all you guys out there moaning and complaining about seeing the hot
chicks talking about taking their clothes off. Tune in tomorrow and see one of
them.<br><br>Hope you're happy.
Hurrah, Hurrah<br>Slim get's it right again. For
all those so apt to condemn us who commented on the
"sleaze" factor IF you took the time to notice this was in
direct response to the trailers & teasers the show
THEMSELVES were using to lure viewers in. We did not dream
this up!<br><br>I am quite aware that the show is a
prime time TV show and it has to be themed for general
viewing. If so then WHY use teasers of a girl getting her
dress ripped off over, and over, and over again to
promote the show?? We all know why already don't we...
because sex sells and the advertisers know this too.
<br><br>Hey I can appreciate GOOD TV just like the next
person. If the teasers lured me in to watch the show then
they were a success. If the show didn't have anything
good to offer after that then that is bad. I am not
looking for just "skin", I am looking for a good show
just like the rest. My previous comments were in
regards to the slant the trailers painted of what this
show was like. So take a chill pill on the "you are so
sick" comments and learn to read alittle
better.<br><br>In fairness, yes I found the first few episodes that
I watched to be shallow & extremely corny, but I
have not seen the show as of recent so it very well
have made improvements. Hopefully I'll catch some new
episodes and be more impressed than I have been.
Here's the article I read today...<br><br>NBC
renews shock reality series<br>By Michael Schneider and
Josef Adalian<br><br>HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - NBC has
ordered 13 additional episodes each of the shock reality
series ``Fear Factor'' and ``Spy TV,'' which have
generated considerable controversy since they bowed earlier
this summer.<br><br>``Fear Factor'' has been labeled
degrading for its requirement that contestants participate
in gross-out stunts -- such as being covered with
rats -- in order to win money.<br><br>``Spy TV'' has
drawn criticism for over-the top hidden camera stunts,
including one in which an unsuspecting car buyer is taken
on an out-of-control test drive. NBC has taken to
hyping the show as a summer comedy hit.<br><br>NBC execs
have defended the shows, saying critics just don't
understand the younger demos.<br><br>Ratings have been solid
for both, helping NBC keep the lights on in a summer
when the other networks are losing audiences. ``Fear''
has aired on Mondays at 8 p.m., while ``Spy'' has run
Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., with a repeat on Tuesdays.
That's exactly what I'm saying...one, the
marketing sucks (both because it's deceiving and because it
doesn't say much about the actual show). Two, the host is
not a "liability" - he's just not being given good
writing. I've seen Michael Ian Black before, and on his
own, he's really funny and really cool. It's the
writers' fault here, not the host.
Why don't you read the posts more carefully
before you start condeming people as "sick?"<br><br>I
cannot speak for others, but the point of MY post was
that NBC is not delivering on its promises. If you see
something advertised on a trailer or teaser, then you would
expect to see it on the show...right? The girl getting
the dress ripped off has been THE prominant feature
of the SPY TV ad campaign.<br><br>I realize that
this is a family show, but this scenario...which the
producers obviously have conceived and filmed (they must be
pretty SICK, huh?)...is being shown repeatedly...and
every week the teasers show more and more of it. I
presume that children and families have seen the teaser
with this scenario at least several times. <br><br>For
those of you who say that this is "Candid Camera" with
an attitude, not the Spice Channel, let me ask you a
question or two:<br><br>1) Why was that particular
scenario filmed?<br><br>2) Why would you (either at the
show or network level)choose to show clips from that
scenario week after week on the teasers for the show
except that you would think that it would get you more
viewers? <br><br>3)Why use the scenario in ads, but not
show it on the program?<br><br>The dress loss bit WAS
done on Allen Funt's Candid Camera in the 1970s AND on
its revival show in the early 1990s, (done as a
set-up to measure how people would react to the woman
losing her dress), so it is hardly the stuff of porno
films.<br><br>Some of the stuff on Spy TV has been good (the record
store bit was the best so far), but in my opinion the
laughs have been few and far between. I still think that
the host is the biggest liability that the show has.
His "comedy", thus far, has not been funny AT ALL.
More Michael Ian Black! And some better writing
for him...he's a comic talent, why does he always
look so grim and serious? Making the host funny every
second would be a mistake, but maybe a little more
subtle humor/sarcasm?
Thanks for noticing the marketing problem. We at
SPYTV don't have a whole lot of control over the
marketing of the show. That's NBC's job. As for the repeats
on Tuesdays, that's another NBC mistake. Originally
we were supposed to premiere on Thursday and then
move permanently to Tuesdays. After we did so well in
the ratings on Thursday, NBC decided to keep us
there. However, because they didn't really have anything
to fill the Tuesday slot, they figured they would
build our audience with people who couldn't watch the
Thursday show. Yes, the marketing is deceiving, but
please, don't blame the show for it.<br>For those of you
like the show, we start back to work next week, making
new episodes (they won't air until fall). After
talking with the Executive Producer a couple days ago, I
am confident that those episodes will be far better
than what you have seen so far. The episodes that have
already been produced were made during a tumultuous time
on the show. We went through three Executive
Producers, three completely different approaches to the
show. This is why you see different tiers to the
segments. With the current (and best) regime firmly in
place now, we plan to forge ahead with a better
approach to the shows. We've listened to how the viewers
have responded so far and are going to address your
wants (within reason...come on, guys, this isn't the
Spice Channel). Tell me your favorite segments and why.
I'll make sure the show hears you.
For those of you who seem to be watching the show
only to see half-naked women...you're sick, go rent a
porno. This show may use racy footage as a teaser, but
you can't honestly expect a hidden-camera show to
show half-naked women all of the time; it's SpyTV, not
the Spice Channel.<br>I agree, though, that the
promos are very deceiving...they give very little
indication of what you'll REALLY see on the show. My major
gripe, of course, is that they never once have shown the
host of the show in the promos. I only watched the
first show because my family wanted to, but once I saw
that Michael Ian Black was hosting it, I was hooked.
NBC, why can't you promote your biggest asset here,
the host?
From what I understand, Spy TV will be repeats every Tuesday and new shows on
Thursday's. You can go to the NBC official site to find out which show is being
played on which day.
I agree that those expecting skin should go
elsewhere. This is a Candid Camera with an attitude, and is
fun for the family. I want to watch the setups unfold
without worrying about rude behaviour. <br><br>When I
first saw it advertised, I thought it would be crap.
Now I like it (except for a repeat within the 1st 2
weeks sucks!) although some of those jokes would drive
ME to jump out of a window too.
To those of you who just watch for the skin
value, this is on a national broadcast station you know.
If you want the skinflicks stay on the spice channel
or the other smut channels. You forget that there
are kids who watch this stuff and parents out there
who monitor what is seen. Take your diatribe
elsewhere.<br><br>I, for one, enjoy the show and have enjoyed it thus
far. Some of the stunts are pretty hokey but that's to
be expected. Keep up the good work and I'm sure as
it goes by the fine upstanding individuals who only
view it for the skinvalue will get their skin soon
enough.<br><br>Bman
when the success of Alan Funt's Candid Camera had
ran out of steam he did just that, started staging
hidden camera bits involving nudity and airing them on
pay cable. As far as I was concerned it became
tedious after the first few episodes. There's only so
many times you can say, ok, and now the girl will take
her top off.<br><br>Spy TV is not Shakespeare, but it
is taking the genre to the next level.
Please...blame NBC and not the show. We have LOTS
of hot chick footage in the can and will be shooting
more once we go back into production. NBC's marketing
team has contructed some crummy ads for us. They're
spotlighting some of the best gags but the deal is we're
spreading them out throughout the season so as not to shoot
our entire load in the first three
episodes.<br><br>The chick tempting to take off her top? She's hot.
When will she be on the air? Soon. As for exactly
when? Even I don;t know the order of the
shows.<br><br>Sorry.
Hi;<br><br>I work on the show. Just wanted to
explain to you that, no, the stunts are not
rehearsed...least ways not with the mark, anyway. The stunt driver
segment that aired in the first episode was choreographed
down to the tiniest detail. Your question, how did we
pull it off without them signing a waiver before hand?
1) The entire thing was a practical joke - the guy
was set-up by his friends. We didn't just nab some
unsuspecting guy. 2) If the guy you saw on TV hadn't signed
the release after it was all over...we would have
used one of the 6 - 8 other marks we shot that same
day. That's right, we did this stunt up to 8 times
that day (actual numbers is not in front of
me).<br><br>As for the stunts where we get random people? On
those segments, we aren't putting them in danger, just
getting their reaction to the things WE do (check out the
Remote Control Wheelchair segment - we shot almost four
hours of footage and probably got signed waivers from
most of the people we shot). And why do they sign the
waivers? Some people just want to see themselves on TV.
Who'da thunk it.<br><br>Staged? No. Sorry. You're just
going to have to trust me. I wrote a segment wherein a
guy has to pretend to be a coprse in a funeral. I
couldn't believe for one second that we would find 8 guys
who would all do it and BELIEVE that they were really
acting in a funeral. We did. We have 8 hours of footage
from 7 different cameras of them. Blows my mind.
Make an X rated version for pay per view, or the
Spice channel, or some adult channel with women (and
guys I guess also... have to have something for the
ladies too I suppose) getting caught naked, being
tricked into getting naked, or just getting caught in
really embarassing situations on camera, or hidden
camera. Now this is a show I would watch for sure. Even
if most of it was staged as long as it was done with
a realistic flair I'd bet it would be a rousing
success!
Yes I am in agreement here 100%. The ONLY reason
I have made any kind of special effort to tune into
this show was to see this teaser they keep showing of
the girl getting her dress ripped off and left in her
underwear on a busy street. They have yet to air it and I
have a feeling they will continue to use this and
other teasers to lure suckers into watching this show.
It is the ONLY thing it has going for it. After only
tuning in twice it's easy to see how lame this show
really is. I was actually surprised at how pathetic most
of the material actually is. One would assume that
they would try to air their very best material first
to lure as many viewers as possible. If this is
their best stuff they are in trouble! <br>Shockingly
bad tv. Nice job NBC. I have been lured in twice
already but my patience is running out. This show just
plain sucks. It would be a sad statement on the general
tv viewing audience if this was a success.
The biggest stunt is being pulled on the
viewers...we are constantly being teased with the beautiful
women that they are dangling in front of us. Tonight's
program was supposed to feature a brunette who was going
to take off article after article of clothing to see
how far the "photographer" would let her go...but
they didn't show it.<br><br>The centerpiece of their
ad campaign is another sexy brunette who gets her
dress torn off by a car as it drives away...she is left
trying to cover up herself, standing only in a matching
blue bra and bikini set. Two episodes, but no sign of
her. On the teaser they showed at the end of tonight's
episode they showed more of her predicament....but I am
betting that you will not see it for the next few
episodes, IF EVER!!! We are being played!!!!!!!<br><br>All
I have seen two good pranks, lots of lame ones, and
a moron of a host who makes watching grass grow
seem entertaining.<br><br>Hey NBC...SPY TV has two
strikes...one more and you are out!!!<br><br>No wonder your
rating are dead last among the major networks!!
or the kind of stunt where NBC legal wouldn't
possibly have let anyone other than a hired stuntperson do
the stunt unless they had signed a waiver FIRST.
Heck, TV won't let you be in a studio audience without
signing a waiver first. So we are supposed to believe
some of these stunts weren't rehearsed/had a waiver
signed first? <br>Not believable, say I.
