On some of the other lists, so called "relax-a-cons" (and quite a few
have been held over the years) have taken a bit of bad rap in some
quarters. Arguably, though, these smaller fan gatherings have been
some of the most interesting and fun get togethers held!
The first of these smaller gatherings was held in Sandusky, Ohio in
1987 and hosted by Jeff Jones. A second was held two years later in
Wapokeneta, Ohio with the surprise attendance of Barry Morse and his
wife Sydney Sturgess. Among a number of leisure activities held that
weekend, was a rousing tournament of miniture golf held between the
attendees, with Sydney and Barry also competing! Further relax-a-
cons have been held in Tampa, Florida (one featuring a journey by bus
to NASA) and in Portland, Oregon (featuring a trip to an active
volcano, Mt. St. Helens, and a trek to the mecca of all bookstores,
Powells).
I think the upcoming "Another Con, Another Place" will be just as fun
and will provide another opportunity for many old friends to get
together and enjoy themselves. I know that Robert Wood is working on
and planning a couple of very interesting and exciting excursions to
celebrate the first official gathering of fans in Canada.
So start your planning now - next summer in Canada is going to be a
blast!
