Announcing a Space: 1999 fan gathering at Dragon*Con   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #466 of 769 |
Hi Everybody,

Each Labor Day weekend, one of the largest and best fan-run conventions in
North America is held in Atlanta, Georgia - called "Dragon*Con". Many
thousands of fans converge from all over North America and around the
world to attend what I am told is one of the most fun and interesting
events in fandom.

More than 250 actors, guests, and authors typically attend this
convention. Any and every fannish interest is represented, from literary
science fiction, to fantasty, to media. Each of these varied areas are
called "Tracks" and run like mini-conventions under the umbrella of the
larger Dragon*Con organization. The tracks include the following:

American SF/Fantasy
Anime/Animation
Art Show Forums & Workshops
Autograph Sessions
Battlestar Galactica
British SF/Media
Buffy: the Vampire Slayer
Comics
Costuming
Electronic Frontiers Forum
Filking
Gothic Shadows
Independent Film
Late-Night (LIVE)
Main Programming
Podcasting
Readings
Robotics
Science Fiction Classics
Sci-Fi and Fantasy Literature
Silk Road: Asian Cinima & Culture
Space & Science
Tribal Gathering
Star Trek: TrekTrak
Star Wars: MOTF
Star Gate: Offworld Fandom
Tolkien's Middle Earth
Wheel of Time
Weyrfest
Writer's Track
X-Track
Young Adult Literature

Attendance runs to around 20,000 people with the events spread between two
main hotel venues, plus several overflow hotels. It is to be held over
the dates of August 31-September 3, 2007.

Currently, prior to this public announcement, nearly a dozen or so Space:
1999 fans have already indicated that they would like to attend
Dragon*Con! Therefore, I have taken the liberty of contacting Dragon*Con
organizers with an eye toward getting some Space: 1999 panels and events
added to their programming. As well, we intend to hold at least of couple
of 1999 gatherings in the evenings, for socializing, screening episodes,
and other fun things!

Attending memberships for Dragon*Con are VERY reasonable, currently just
$45 for four days of programming and events (Friday through Monday). This
price is good through November 15th, after which the price goes up
incrementally until the convention dates. I have already gone ahead and
purchased my membership. Extensive information on the upcoming
convention, as well as past events, is available through their website,
at:

www.dragoncon.org

So, on behalf of Ellen & Michael Lindow, Charlene Scott, and myself - we
hope to see as many fans as possible in Atlanta this coming Labor Day
weekend!

Sincerely,
Anthony Wynn

P.S. (This gathering should serve to get everyone pumped up for the
first-ever Space: 1999 Canadian event, "Another Con, Another Place", in
July 2008! For info on that event, go to www.anotherconanotherplace.com).

"From your parents you learn love and laughter and how to put one foot before
the other; but when books are opened you discover that you have wings."
~Helen Hayes, first lady of the stage (1900-1993)
