Hi All,

I want to pass on two new items of News to you about the convention.
Firstly, Mateo Latosa of Powys is announcing the following about their
participation in SpaceCon:

~

Author William Latham and publisher Mateo Latosa will offer convention
goers a unique opportunity to work with Powys on a story for the upcoming
"Space: 1999" anthology! They plan to meet with interested fans Saturday
night after the auction in the hotel bar. They have a few outline ideas
for stories for the anthology (early versions at this point) and will open
up a discussion about which story to go with, how to develop that story,
and invite the participants to write a bit of it. In the end, they will
include this story in the published anthology--subject, of course to the
editorial hand of Powys and the creative hand of the author assigned to
pull it together. All the participants will be named in the published
work.

The idea is to give the participants a hands on experience in what it
takes to get a "Space: 1999" story published, dealing with editors, the
give and take of continuity with an established franchise and with other
author's works.

On Sunday, the first Powys panel will be a sort of open session to discuss
any aspect of the books, future plans, small press publishing, licensed
franchises, etc. The second will be to discuss WRITING SPACE: 1999, and
will follow on from what is done Saturday night. Attendees will be able
to discuss directly with both author and publisher the development of both
Mr. Latham's "Space: 1999" works AND the developing story for the
anthology.

~

In other good news, fans of Barbara Bain will be happy to note that
another local theatre here in Portland has picked up the option to extend
the run of her independent film AMERICAN GUN. The movie is currently
running at Cinema 21 (through Thursday) and will open on Friday, July 18th
at Cinemagic Theatre where it will play throughout the convention weekend
and beyond! Times will be announced as soon as they are known.

See you in Portland soon!

Anthony Wynn
Event Coordinator
