According to a New York City police spokesman, John Costelloe (not
Castello), 47, was found dead in his Brooklyn home on December 18th,
allegedly due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Students—and much of the television-viewing public—would
probably
recognize Costelloe best from his 2006 role as a short-order cook
named Jim Witowski, also known as Johnny Cakes, on The Sopranos.

The investigation is currently on-going, and as of this morning, there
is no official word on what may have pushed the actor to commit suicide.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Costelloe's family and friends.
