Nor am i! And honestly SG-1 and SGA was way way more geared to younger people...
this is geared o the 40 zone in my opinion. Drama over action.

Actually as much as i loved the new BSG i have also admit it was more of a Blade
Runner/ Do androids clone in some ways.

In all honestly i have not been able to get into Sanctuary. I have tired. I
adore Amanda but the show for me does not connect.

See, I'm not in that younger demo either. I don't like sex on TV. I
don't enjoy seeing it there at all. I don't watch shows, any shows, as
a rule that have a lot of grit or sex, so sci fi or not, a show like SGU
that has so much sex on it, is one I'm not going to watch.

I always felt sorry for the Enterprise cast for the way they went out.
Their best show of the series for me was their last one, and that's
because it was essentially an episode of TNG with Frakes and Sirtis. I
loved it and I always watch that show. I understand the cast of
Enterprise wasn't thrilled, and I certainly understand why.

On BG, I remember the furor when it was first in production. It was
intense. Olmos actually finally told fans of the original show just not
to watch the new version because they'd hate it. I think he was right.
I know very few devoted fans of the original BG who could stand to watch
the rethink for very long. Most hit the door as soon as Starbuck
changed sexes.

I appreciate your position; I'm just not on board with it, especially
when it comes to the powers that be in the SG franchise. I don't
respect them and I don't like them. They destroyed quality SG-1 and
they don't care about the fans, by their own admissions (at least, RCC
doesn't). I have no desire to help line their pockets as a result.
They killed the show that I dearly loved. I've watched SGU and I don't
like it. Heck, Michael Shanks admits he's not thrilled about it either,
even though he's done a couple of the shows. That tells me I'm in good
company with my opinions. Of course, Michael and I don't always agree,
but right now, on this subject, we do.

I liked DS9 but I did not like the new Battlestar Galactica. I watched
about 20 minutes of the pilot and changed the station. (Did the same with
Sanctuary) DS9 was at least part of the Trek franchise; BSG was a
completely different show with only the Cylon name to make it seem like BSG.

As far as Enterprise is concerned, only the final season was really worth
watching, although I did watch the entire series.

With Universe, the jury is still out as far as I am concerned.

It' s not the viewers, it's the network taking its time. The fan bases
are different. We've learned that already. I believe we've had this
discussion before. In essence, SGU does not affect SG-1 or SGA.

And that is really my concern. If we learnt anything from Enterprise is it that
a few disgruntled fans can turn a whole fan base off a show and tank it, if they

We know, Vinnie, that you are in another zone. <G> You are right that
some like it and others don't. SGU is like Deep Space Nine to Star Trek
fans, or what the new Battlestar Galactica was to fans of the original
show -- it's dark and gritty and for some, that's not what the franchise
is about. This new show is also geared more for younger people, the
young demographic, just like the producers depicted in that one scene in
the 200 episode of SG-1. It's sex-driven much of the time. You're
either going to like it, or you're not. I know you're part of the
former, and we all know I'm part of the latter. What is becoming
increasing clear is that there is a growing list of those who feel like
I do. I'm reading more blogs and seeing more emails where people are
saying they don't like it and aren't going to watch anymore.

And that's the way it is.

Personally i think you are right. It just is not your cup of tea. And that is
what stops you from seeing what others do see. So me i think it is dead on what

what i think.

So, you don't like it. Fair enough. Others do.

Sorry, to hear that. Not sure what to tell you. Perhaps it is as you say, you
just don't get it. But not everything is for all people. Me i love it.

SG1 and SGA were more fast passed, and kind cartoony, even campy at times. This
show is darker, toned down, serious, and less about action and more about Drama.
Personally i like both styles. So i am really digging this new look and feel.

I do agree, it is too slow moving. Then again look at Star trek Nex Gen season
one... ugh!

I don't get this "way more real stories" thing. Yes, the writers and producers
(especially Mallozzi) keep telling us how realistic it is, how the people are
way more real. I don't see it. Not at all.

First, it's SF - it's NOT real.

Second, I know few "real people" who behave with the consistent stupidity and
overt outrageous selfishness of the people on that ship. Sure, there ARE people
like that, but not everybody is like that. The endless whining about "we're not
the right people," has gotten far beyond lame.

Third, if this WERE real, and the SGC and Icarus base were real, these morons
would not have been assigned to that base in the first place. The only people
who wouldn't be likely to have had a lot more training than these fools would
have been the Senator and his idiot daughter. Everyone else would have had major
league survival training. It's a base that is not on Earth! We train people to
deal with things that happen elsewhere than on this planet, and I cannot believe
that anyone would be leaving this planet for an extended tour of duty on a base
on another planet, especially one that has a dangerous core, without serious
training.

Fourth, if this WERE real, the people on the base would be experts in lots of
things, most particularly, ancient tech. There wouldn't be only one person with
knowledge and expertise; they'd all have pretty significant knowledge and
expertise, and someone like Rush wouldn't be able to fool them and wouldn't be
the only person who could figure out what was going on with the ship. That he is
shows really contrived, lazy, even stupid writing. The whole thing is contrived;
there isn't anything "realistic" about it.

Fifth, if this were real, I'm sure that people would be having sex, but they
wouldn't be having sex while in someone else's body. There might be some few
jerks who would do that, but there is nothing "realistic" to assume that people
- human beings - would be comfortable with that. I find it really laughable as
well as fascinating that this aspect of the communication stones is being touted
as "realistic" by the producers and writers. It's so far outside human
experience that nothing having anything to do with it would provide a comfort
level for humans. Mallozzi indicated that it's a reasonable assumption that the
viewers should make that the people who allow the use of their bodies for
Destiny crewmembers to visit their families gave explicit permission for their
bodies to be used for sex. That's a logical assumption? That's realistic? That's
INSANE. People wouldn't do that. Oh, I'm sure that some might find it
titillating (and that of course is the real reason this device is being used
anyway), but how does this even approach a realistic understanding of humanity?

If I had been, for example, Col. Young's wife, and he appeared to me using
another man's body, there would be zero chance I'd have sex with him in that way
(well, maybe if he were using certain actors' bodies). SEroiusly? This is more
"real" than the people in SG1 and SGA?

I don't see it at all. I think the writers are justifying a lot of crap by
pointing to it being "more real" because the people aren't "square jawed heroes"
like the people in SG1 and SGA. It's an emo-driven soap opera; these people are
no more real than those on All My Children.

Deeper stories? This show is the slowest moving thing I have ever seen outside
of Waterworld. Waterworld had more story than this. So did Ishtar, one of the
most boring films ever made. There is almost no story here. I don't see it.

I'm kind of tired of the writers and producers claiming that those who don't
like this show "don't get it" and have to have "squared jawed heroes" and don't
like sex and have an agenda. That's boring, too. There's no story in the story,
the people are amazingly UNrealistic and obnoxious besides.

Ok, it's not my cup of tea, but others like it. That's great for them. I love
vampire stories but find the Twilight saga more emo garbage. Lots of young girls
and women love it. Different tastes.

But don't kid yourself: SGU is no more "real" in its depiction of people than is
Babes in Toyland.

You aren't going to get S/J they way you want them until or unless they

I completely agree. Except that I still like to watch Jack. So any episode with
him is one that I'll tape to watch the parts with him. Otherwise, I'm done with
this. And TPTB should be ashamed of themselves.

Ok, I had not read much about it before hand, as a matter of fact I wasn't
even going to watch it, but I'm a Robert Carlyle fan, so that perked my
interest, then they announced Ming Na was going to be on, and I'm a big fan
of her so I decided to give it a try, her character being a lesbian was an
added bonus. I like dark to a point, buthat I don't like it that they spent
too much doing the club scene, too much time on earth period. I thought
they'd be out there alone with no contact from Earth, well I guess I should
have read a little more about the show. I'm not giving up yet, but someone
was talking about how they thought it was rape to use Telford's body for
Young to have sex with his wife when they brought up the same thing was
going to happen to Wray, I hope it's a false rumor that they are going to
put some straight chick in Camile's body and she is going to (someone else's
word) bone some guy. .How is she going to feel when she gets her body back,
she will know her body has been used. If that is a true rumor then it won't
matter if this becamese a hit I won't watch anymore. I know it's fiction,
but if that is what they are going to use to try and please the male 13-25
crowd then why even bother making one of the characters a lesbian? Scratch
that, I think they know exactly what they are doing. Still on IMDb where
fans vote on the show 1-10 stars it was down in popularity 49% for last
weeks episode. I haven't heard very many good things about it on the forums
I'm on.
