SFTV News and Info

UPN Trek Franchise Plans - The End of Enterprise?

Reports have indicated the UPN will either not renew Enterprise at all
or only renew it for a half season. In this exclusive SFTV.org report,
I have the scoop on what is really going on!

First of all, Enterprise is dead! The ratings have been dropping and
only a large surge when it returns will save it. Even then it is doubtful
due to the high cost of the show and the expected lower returns in
syndication and DVD sales.

Paramount will officially announce that it will be resting the Trek
franchise and will put any dramatized Star Trek on an indefinite hiatus.

However, in an attempt to keep Star Trek in the public eye, UPN will
launch a new reality series next fall. They haven't decided for sure on
which route they will go, partly due to the availability of certain
celebrities. Here's what they are considering:

The Captain's Chair - A series with as many of the Star Trek captains
all living together in one house. Watch the hilarity ensue as
William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and
Scott Bakula fight for the right to claim the Captain's chair each
week as they are put through a series of tests by a studio audience.

Ten Forward - A group of Star Trek fans bunk up with a group of former
Star Trek actors, being put through trials and tribulations to test
their Trekkie mettle. Each week one of the fans and one of the actors
gets voted out until the last fan and the last actor compete for the
votes of those who have gone beyond the rim. Look for Jonathon Frakes,
Marina Sirtis, Dominic Keating, George Takei, Walter Koening, Robert Picardo,
Michael Dorn, Armin Shimerman, Jeri Ryan, and Grace Lee Whitney to take part.

Doctor Who dubbed for US Audiences

Reports are that the SciFi channel is considering picking
up the new BBC production of Doctor Who next year. However, SciFi execs
have decided that the show will be too British for their audience and they
will have the show dubbed with actors speaking with American accents.

Stargate SG-1 Season Eight Cast addition

In order to attract a younger audience to the series, especially the 18-34
year old male, SciFi has announced that they will be adding a new character
to the SG-1 team next season, Sarah O'Neill, Jack O'Niell's niece. She's a
sixteen year old whiz kid (who, of course, is also a hottie) who when visiting
Uncle Jack finds out about the SG-1 project and convinces him to let her go
on a mission. When things go bad and she saves everyone, Jack decides to
keep her on, at least through summer vacation.

Doctor Who Is Cast

The BBC has announced that Christopher Eccleston will play The Doctor
in the new Doctor Who series being produced by the BBC for next year.

Stargate: Atlantis Casting

Joe Flanigan (Profiler, Tru Calling) leads the cast as Maj. John Sheppard and
will be joined by Torri Higginson as Dr. Elizabeth Weir, Rainbow Sun Francks wi
ll
be Lt. Aiden Ford, David Hewlett as Dr. Rodney McKay previously seen on
Stargate SG-1 and Rachel Luttrell as Teyla. Also appearing in the opening
movie will be Robert Patrick Col. Marshall Sumner. More details and other

Anonymous Rex Casting Announced

From Eric Garcia's website at www.ericgarcia.com:

"Vincent will be played by Sam Trammell, most recently the lead on the
Showtime series Going to California. He's got this cool Sam Rockwell
vibe to him, and he was far and away everyone's favorite choice for
the part. There's something genuinely cool about him that I think
everyone's really going to gravitate toward.

And Ernie will be played by Daniel Baldwin, most famous for his role
on NBC's Homicide. Yes, folks, we've got a Baldwin brother, and a
rockin' one at that. He's got a great feel for the material, and
really seems to get the project, both the comedy and the serious
elements, so hooray!"

The SFTV Schedule, SFTV News and SFTV Talk Mailing Lists Info

All three SFTV mailing lists are now at yahoogroups (who have

The SFTV Schedules list consists of the roughly bi-weekly
SFTV Schedules mailing. It is a moderated newsletter type
list. SFTV News is a news and info oriented mailing list
that can be posted to by any subscriber. Traffic is a
nywhere from five messages a day to zero, so it is not a
heavy traffic list. SFTV Talk is a discussion list, so
message traffic varies.
