Summer Season Ends with Fall Season Just Around the Corner

This week is the end of the summer season for several of the genre shows
and SciFi is even calling Stargate's episode the Summer Season finale.
Tremors: The Series had it's season finale already and The Dead Zone
finished it's second season with an episode that sets up a new
dynamic if they get picked up for a third season. This weekend sees
the debut of Duck Dodgers on the Cartoon Network (the first showing is
Saturdays at 11:30 am with Sunday at 8 pm being the first prime-time
airing each week). Following that is UPN jumping the gun a bit with
Enterprise and Jake 2.0 on September 10th and then the debut of HBO's
Carnivale on Sept 14th. After that things get into high gear with
most of the other fall shows returning or debuting over the next
few weeks.

A few comments about some of the new shows...

Carnivale - New series set at a Carnival in the 1930's with magic and
other supernatural elements. Executive producer is Ron D. Moore
(ST: DS9, ST: TNG, Roswell) with a few faces onscreen familiar to
genre fans with John Fleck, Clancy Brown and Adrienne Barbeau. It looks
to be interesting, but it is still a bit of a risk for HBO. Check out

Jake 2.0 (UPN) NSA Computer Tech gets injected with nanobots and gets
superhuman abilities. Stale premise, but if the people behind it come
through (producers from The Chronicle, Angel, and Miracles), it might
be something worth catching assuming you aren't already watching Angel.

Joan of Arcadia (CBS) Teen with troubled family (dad is chief of police,
older prother is paralyzed, younger brother is a geek, mom having
trouble dealing with it all) starts talking with God. Her name is
Joan and she lives in Arcadia. No sign of the Witchblade, though.
Prospects for a long life on CBS are slim. Might make it if they
switch it over to UPN or repurpose it there.

Tarzan (The WB) - Agent Skinner is Uncle Greystoke who has his nephew
who grew up with apes locked up. Tarzan escapes and meets and falls
in love with lady cop Jane. He hides out in New York. Looks to channel
Beauty and the Beast storylines except Jane doesn't have to deal with
a beastly love. He's a real hunk!

Tru Calling - Or Run Faith Run! FOX signs up Eliza Dushku to a series
so that she won't do a Buffy spinoff for UPN. She gets the night
shift at the morgue instead of an internship after graduating. Her
brother and sister are messed up. She hears dead people and wakes up
the previous morning (although if she works the night shift shouldn't
she be sleeping later?) and has a chance to put things right or prevent
bad things from happening. Unless she can go back in time and convince
FOX to schedule this in a better time slot, we'll be lucky to see all
thirteen episodes. She should also get a car....

SFTV Schedule Notes

Angel is Back - The WB will be running at least the three Angel episodes
with Faith (Eliza Dushku) starting August 27th. I'd expect them to air
the previous season finale that sets up the Wolfram and Hart setting
on Sept 24th.

Double Dip of Futurama

FOX has pulled Banzai! and will be airing two repeats of Futurama each
Sunday for the next few weeks at 7:00 pm ET/PT Sundays.

All three SFTV mailing lists are now at yahoogroups (who have

The SFTV Schedules list consists of the roughly bi-weekly
SFTV Schedules mailing. It is a moderated newsletter type
list. SFTV News is a news and info oriented mailing list
that can be posted to by any subscriber. Traffic is a
nywhere from five messages a day to zero, so it is not a
heavy traffic list. SFTV Talk is a discussion list, so
message traffic varies.
