SFTV News and Info

New Season Ratings So Far..
The new crop of genre shows have done pretty well overall. Four of them,
Ghost Whisperer, Surface, Supernatural, and Invasion, have gotten full
season orders. Threshold has gotten an order for three more scripts.
So far, the Night Stalker is the weakest of the bunch, and it's pairing
with Alias has not been a ratings grabber for ABC. With last night's
ratings being season lows for both, don't be surprised if they
disappear for sweeps (they are already pre-empted on the first Thursday).

Masters of Horror on Showtime
The anthology series Masters of Horror debuts on Showtime on Friday,
October 28th at 10 pm. They plan to air the new episode each night
over the weekend at 10 pm or 11 pm. They've lined up lots of well
known horror directors for this series. I'm hoping it does well enough
that they don't have any trouble finding an outlet for the Masters of
SciFi series they are putting together.

SciFi Renews the Gates!
SciFi Channel announced that they have renewed both Stargate series, SG-1
and Stargate Atlantis. This makes Stargate SG-1 the longers running
SciFi series in US television (Doctor Who on the BBC still is the longest
running in the world).

Doctor Who News
Lots of Doctor Who News to report...

Torchwood - Doctor Who BBC3 Spinoff
The BBC Announced that they will have a new series next year spun off
from Doctor Who in Torchwood. It will feature John Barrowman's
Captain Jack Harkness. According to producer Russell T. Davies,
"Torchwood is a British sci-fi paranoid thriller, a cop show with
a sense of humour. It's dark, wild and sexy, it's the X Files meets
This Life. It's a stand-alone series for adult audiences which will
have its own unique identity. I have just begun working on the
scripts with a team of writers and cannot wait to see the results."
It will focus on a "a renegade group of investigators" that will be
introduced early in the second series of Doctor Who. The storylines
will not cross over and Torchwood will also be more adult.

Doctor Who Takes NTA Awards
In the British National Television Awards televised on ITV last week,
Doctor Who took the main awards with the series being voted Most
Popular Drama, Christopher Eccleston being voted Most Popular Actor,
and Billie Piper being voted Most Popular Actress.

Children in Need Special
In addition to the Christmas Special, there will also be a short
story produced for the upcoming Children in Need telethon broadcast
on the BBC on November 18th. Rumors are that it will be around
12 minutes long and will take place between the end of Series 1
and the Christmas special.

Straczynksi Babylon 5 Scripts
J. Michael Straczynski recently announced a project to release collected
editions of the Babylon 5 scripts he wrote, packaged with commentary
and notes on each episode. They will be made available via the
www.babylon5scripts.com web site. Some details can be found in the
archived posts at jmsnews.com and full details will be on the script
website any day now. Straczynski also noted that he has accepted
a show running job on a series that is planned to start shooting in
Vancouver next spring. Straczynski described it as "a companion series"
and that it is almost set, but not yet ready to announce. Unless there
is some spinoff of a current show (Stargate, Battlestar Galactica)
that hasn't been announced yet, the only thing I can think of that
matches up to his comments would be the Masters of SciFi series in
development. With Harlan Ellison already involved, having Straczynski
get involved would not be surprising. Whether it happens or not could
depend on how well the Masters of Horror series does on Showtime.

SciFi Notes
The dates for the Triangle miniseries have been released, the six hour
miniseries will air on Dec 5, 6 & 7, with an airing of all three parts
on Sunday, Dec 11th. There is also a SciFi Inside show as well as a
documentary on the Bermuda Triangle airing as part of the promotion.

Painkiller Jane - The movie pilot for a Painkiller Jane series will air
on Saturday, Dec 10th. Unless it does really well, a series is not
likely to happen.

November/December repeats
It looks like in November, SciFi will air blocks of Stargate episodes
on Friday nights, with SG-1 airing three episodes on Nov 4 & 18, and
Atlantis airing three episodes on Nov 11th. Galactica is not airing
at all in November or December since Ghost Hunters will air in the
10 pm slot in December. As usual, SciFi will do marathons over
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years weekends with a Twilight Zone
marathon on Dec 31 and Jan 1.

Schedule Notes

Cartoon Network - I was hoping to have more info on the Cartoon Network
scheduling, but Toonzone.net doesn't have anything beyond next weekend.
According to epguides.com/tv.com, Teen Titans will continue with new
episodes into November and Justice League will return on Nov 12th. That
is still subject to change, though. As for Duck Dodgers, I finally realized
that the airings that have been happening on the Boomerang channel have
started including the third season episodes that never aired on the
Cartoon Network. They have been airing on Friday nights since mid September.
