Thanks, I'm over in England and haven't seen any episodes for a while.

ps I don't tend to remember the episodes by name. Wish I'd kept clippings
from our Radio Times (which includes tv)

After reading Josie's post, I HAD to rewatch The Road Back. Loved Rowdy in
{rumpled) best clothes, waistcoat, semi-undone cravat, and derby hat.
Absolutely loved Favor getting off the train and pretending he knows nothing
about the missing horses, and laughed my head off when he pretends he is
going to hold up the railway car to get the horses back. Giggled idiotically
at Scarlet in the background, trying to draw his gun, and remembering that
he's lent it to Favor. Grinned as Rowdy's voice trails off as he 'fesses up
to Favor about the girl from Glen Falls. Comedy does not always work in
Rawhide - some comedy episodes are, imo, embarrassingly unfunny, like the
one about Mushy's mother - but here it's subtle, and affectionate, and works
beautifully, I think.
Any favourite comedy episodes? I like The Peddler - the Jewish merchant is
hilariously incompetent as a cattleman, but a shrewd businessman (he had
counted all the head of Favor's herd, just in case!!) and a loyal friend.
And not too stereotypical in his Jewishness, either. Also like Incident of
the Reluctant Bridegroom, where Rowdy is given some funny pills in his beer,
and wakes up married to the villain's girlfriend, and of course has to take
her back to the herd, and to a very unimpressed Favor.

Hi Josie..Lucky You. Its been off the air in the New York area since FX
quit running it in 1996. Oh well I have some episodes taped. I'm looking
to get a copy of Incident at Zebulon, I love the drama and Gil's intensity.

Yep. Gil's my favorite guy...I find him very intriguing. Definitely the
strong silent type.
Columbia house has some episodes as well.
I'm looking for Incident of the stalking death and Incident at Zebulon. Any
ideas where to get them. Also does any know if they are broadcasting on any
cable network??

Dear Josie,
I agree with you about the Fish out of water" It is one of my favorites I guess
because it centered around Gills life off the drive, like you said there was no
distractions on the point of the story,it showed they did go home once and
awhile, the one that followed was,the road pack was funny when they thought he
was going to rob the train of the horses, the looks on there faces, another
favorite is Midnight Horse" Gill locked horns with a old rancher he'd worked for
in his youth, its quit a fist fight. One more thing I was Just wondering what
channel is airing the rawhide series.
Sincerely
Liz

I stated before, I have just rediscovered Rawhide, and so far my favorite
has been A Fish Out Of Water. When it came on last week, and I started to
watch it, I thought they had preempted Rawhide for a Western Twilight Zone.
No horses, no cows, no chuckwagon, no cowboys. What was going on here.
Well ,then came Mr. Favor, He had a life outside of Trail boss,
inconceivable. He had children, a sister-in-law. This episode brought a
bit of realism as to what life in the old west might have been like.
Yesterday ,"the Road Back ",was aired, and I thought I was going to fall off

I started watching Rawhide, again, about 1 or 2 months ago. Just for
pleasure, or so I thought. Then "The Incident of the Fish out of Water"
aired, and have been kicking myself ever since that I didn't have the VCR
programmed to tape it. So now I'm just wondering if anyone out there has
taped some of the more interesting episodes and would like to share or sell
copies. You can write me directly at

Try:

When I was a kid, Wishbone was corny and very old looking (grandfather figure) now he's kind of cute and endearing.
I just rediscovered Rawhide a month ago, and am amazed at the well written plots, and the continuity of the stories. The last episode that I saw was, A fish out of water, which featured Mr. Favor ( my favorite) , Wishbone (almost seemed wise) and Pete (didn't remember him so hotheaded), but I didn't remember anythig but Rowdy.
I just order 5 tapes from amazon.com and am waiting patiently. Does anyone know if more ca be found?
Like the new format! but uh, JOsie, "wishbone is looking sexy to you"???????? You need a 12 step program and I am going to outline the 12 steps for you!!! The steps are: How to get Wishbone off your "sexy" list:
10. Newly on Gunsmoke 9.steve on the virginian 8. Josh randall (wanted dead or alive) 7. Yancy Derringer 6. Bret Maverick 5. Cooper Smith (wagon train) (ever notice how much he "favors" jess harper of laramie? 4. Jess harper (Laramie) 3. Rowdy Yates (uh, Rawhide!0 2. Trampas (the virginian) 1. I've been reading the posts with great interest but haven't jumped in
because I haven't had anything important to add. So I'll just say that I'm
40 years old and Gil Favor made quite an impression on me when I was tot,
though I couldn't understand the intricate plot lines.
Gil Favor is my favorite character on the show, with all due respect to
Clint Eastwood. As far as a favorite Favor episode, I liked "Incident of
the Night on the Town." Whenever my wife and I have wine on a special
occasion, one of us will say "FRENCH wine," and the other will say "Is there
any other kind?"
Only recently did I realize that Paul Brinegar was only 41 when the series
premiered, yet he looked older than that. I guess cookin' for 25 drovers
will do that to you.
Y'all be good.

Just writing to say that you're right: I have no defense for referring to
Mr. Favor as, er, Gil. He's definitely one of those guys you refer to in
the third person by their full name.
Your postscript has me missing the series. I do wish someone would air the
show again.
