Hey QQF, sorry for taking so long to post a
response. But I think you can imagine froma a previous
posting, I for the 3rd season w/Honor Blackman. I like all
of the shows of her run of course, but 2nd season
was split too much between Venus and Dr. King, of
course. <br><br>Anyway, ta-ta for now.
Dear Mike,<br>thank you for the compliments to my
site. In effects don't result me that they are other
web sites situated in Italy devoted to "The Avengers"
but, despite this, there many people are that they
remember this marvelous television series with
affection.<br>In "Greensleeves!" there is not still much about
"The Avengers" (I have begun to build it only for two
months), but I in future have in plan of widen him much.
On the other hand: "Mrs. Peel...We're Needed, in
Italy too!"<br>Thank you still and to
soon.<br><br>Valentino<br><br>P.S.: excuse me for the my very bad English and
thank
you for the link in your site!
I'd like to say a warm welcome to our newest
member, Valentino Callegari, who is our first Italian fan
in the club (that I know about anyway). His profile
has a link to an Italian site for Agente Speciali,
the Italian version of The Avengers. This is the
first Italian site I've seen on the Avengers, and it
looks really great. He's also got sites for Space: 1999
(Spazio 1999), The Persuaders, and The New Avengers. My
own understanding of Italian is fairly limited, but I
was able to find my way around, and I noticed that he
has a RealMedia link to an Italian version of the
opening titles to the 5th season. I would encourage you
all to check it out. The URL

>And to Valentino, I'd just like to say: Benvenuto e
grazie mille per il suo sito magnifico.
Ciao.<br><br>Mike
What episodes do you think A&E should release
next?<br><br>Tara King (7th season)<br>Honor Blackman (2nd
season)<br>Honor Blackman (3rd season)<br>The New Avengers (1st
season)<br><br>A&E recently had a poll, and the choice was Honor
Blackman (2nd season), but what do you guys think and
why?<br><br>Mike
I actually happen to also like the New Avengers,
certainly because Patrick Macnee is in it and also because
I draw a line between it and the original series.
Apart from a few episodes (like the excellent "Cat
amongst the Pidgeons"), the series is very different from
its ancestor. I think it's a good series in itself
but it suffers from having the word "Avengers" in its
title.<br><br>Yours Avengersly.
I actually like the New Avengers. Mystery Channel
has been running the shows before the Saint and I've
found a new appreciation for them. Are they as good as
'classic' Avengers? I don't think so. But I like them
better than the Tara King episodes. The New Anvengers
more than any of the previous incarnations cemented
Steed's role as an agent of the 'Ministry'giving him an
office and everything. <br><br>However, the show
continued with the tone set in the Tara King days in that
all the key players were 'professionals'. But
fortunately, contrary to some published accounts, Steed did
play more than the role of advisor to the young kids
on the show. What amazed me the most was the fact
that Steed looked so good considering the time between
shows.<br><br>Just my humble opinion.
It seems the Avengers fandom is often divided
about the New Avengers. Much like the Tara King era,
the show seems have those who love it and those that
hate it.<br><br>What is your opinion? Is the New
Avengers rubbish or a worthy sequel?
You're right, Steed's home did change over the
various seasons of the show. However, the address was
only given a few times. There is a very excellent
article about this at David K. Smith's Avengers Forever
site. Take a
look.<br><br><a href=http://www.davidksmith.com/avengers/flats.htm
target=new>http://www.davidksmith.com/avengers/flats.htm</a><br><br>And check
out the rest of the site while you're
there.<br><br>Mike
I have an interesting question to pose to you
all. I am aware that in the colour episodes of the
avengers with Emma Peel, Steed lives at Stable Mews,
London. It appears to me that in the b/w seasons his
house appears to change. Does he live in the same house
during these episodes and if not , does anyone have any
idea where he lives.<br><br>Your
Avengetastically<br><br>Jonathan Keen
The answer to that question is not easy. It seems
to vary from one era of the show to another. During
the early days of Dr. Keel and Cathy Gale, Steed
apparently reported to the "One" series, mostly to One-Ten,
but ocassionally to One-Twelve and others. During the
Mrs. Peel era of the show, he did not appear to have a
boss anymore, although he may well have had one that
was never seen. During the Tara King era, Steed and
Tara both reported to Mother, a hugely obese guy in a
wheelchair whose office shifted to one bizarre location
after another from episode to episode.<br><br>It is
worth noting that Tara was the first of Steed's
partners to officially work for the same organization.
Mrs. Peel, Cathy Gale, Venus Smith, Dr. King and Dr.
Keel were never officially associated with Steed's
employer. In fact, several times One-Ten commented
negatively on Steed's use of amateurs, refering to Cathy
Gale, Venus Smith and others.<br><br>It is generally
believed that Steed worked for MI6 or MI7, although I
don't believe it's ever really nailed down.<br><br>Mike
I just checked out some Avengers tapes from the
library. The Winged Avenger, Epic, and Superlative Seven.
At least two of these I have never seen. The
question I have is what exactly are Steed and Ms Peele? In
most cases they appear to be sleuths that work for the
British government. In Epic, Ms Peele appeared to be a
victim chosen at large than rather than by a foreign
government for assassination. Does anyone know the answer?
Hi.<br>The episodes which names you don't
remember are:<br>The Forget-Me-Knot (final episode with
Mrs. Peel also featuring Tara King), The Cybernauts
(episode that The Return of the Cybernauts was based on),
A Touch of Brimstone (the Hellfire Club episode)
and A Sense of History (the one where Mrs. Peel is
dressed as Robin Hood and Steed as the sheriff of
Nottingham, the people dressed as Friar Tuck being the
mastermind and two teachers of the university).<br>Actually,
these last three episodes are in black and white,
whereas all of your "Top Seven" + The Forget-Me-Knot were
in colo(u)r.<br>Anyway, I agree fully with you about
everything with Mrs. Peel being great.<br>Yours Avengersly.
1. The Winged Avenger<br>2. The Bird Who Knew Too
Much<br>3. Positive Negative Man<br>4. A Funny Thing
Happened On The Way To The Station<br>5. Something Nasty
In The Nursery<br>6. The Return Of The
Cybernauts<br>7. Deaths Door<br>There are others that I cannot
remember the titles, such as the final episode with Mrs
Peele. The episode that the Return of the Cybernauts was
based on, and the Hellfire Club episode. There was one
where Mrs Peele dressed up as Robin Hood and Steed as
Friar Tuck. Quite frankly, I though everything with Mrs
Peele was great.
First of all, Cheers for the answer to the
question that I asked about the Tara King episode with the
pool of acid. And now my top ten episodes. <br>1 Two's
A Crowd<br>2 Something Nasty in the Nursery<br>3
Man with Two Shadows<br>4 The Hidden Tiger <br>5
Death's Door<br>6 Pandora<br>7 A Sense of History<br>8
The House that Jack Built<br>9 Escape in Time<br>10
Don't Look Behind You<br>Once again Thank
You.<br><br>Jonnie.
>>But I always remember a Tara episode with
Steed throwing a Handkerchief into what looks like a
puddle of water, but it is in fact Acid. And I also
remember Tara crawling through something called "The Tube"
which filled up with gas when she was inside it. Please
can somebody tell me which
episode?<<<br><br>That sounds like "Invasion of the Earthmen" to me. It
has a pool of acid and a tunnel filled with nasties
that aren't nasty. It's a curious episode that fails
to capture the style and spirit of the Avengers
completely, IMHO.<br><br>Mike
I have just started collecting the Kult TV videos
of The Avengers, and I am wondering if anybody can
help me with a query. I used to watch the Channel 4
repeats of the series in the early Eighties and as I was
only about Ten years old, watching the videos now is
quite a new experience. But I always remember a Tara
episode with Steed throwing a Handkerchief into what
looks like a puddle of water, but it is in fact Acid.
And I also remember Tara crawling through something
called "The Tube" which filled up with gas when she was
inside it. Please can somebody tell me which episode? I
think it is either Get-a-Way or Game but I am not sure
as I have already mentioned. Please,
help.<br><br>Jonnie.
Jeez, see now I have to think about my favourite
ten Avengers, no easy task. One was hard
enough.<br><br>But here it goes.<br><br>1. The Superlative Seven
-for the reasons I mentioned before and a young Donald
Sutherland<br>2. Castle De'ath - Steed in a kilt!<br>3. Too Many
Christmas Trees -I luv the Cathy Gale remark<br>4.
Intercrime - a classic Cathy Gale episode<br>5. The Nutshell
- another good Cathy Gale episode<br>6. The Town of
No Return - The eyeball on the door is classic<br>7.
The Hour that Never Was - a very eerie episode<br>8.
The Danger Makers - pure Emma Peel<br>9. A Touch of
Brimstone - The Hellfire Club and Emma in a collar, need
one say more.<br>10. The House that Jack
Built<br><br>Look (stop me if you've heard this one) but there were
these two fellers... is probably one of my favourites
during the Tara King years because it was so funny.
<br><br>And being a Dr. Who fan I liked seeing Jon Pertwee in
From Venus With Love. And I didn't think the New
Avengers were that bad either. They're running on Mystery
Channel these days so I'm re-aquainting myself with them.
Finally, someone who agrees with me about "Look - (stop me if you've heard this
one) But There Were These Two Fellers..."!<br><br>And all of your other choices
are excellent as well.<br><br>Mike
My top ten would be:<br>1 - Escape in Time<br>2 -
The Correct Way to Kill<br>3 - Castle De'ath<br>4 -
Look (stop me if you've heard this one) but there were
these two fellers...<br>5 - Quick-Quick-Slow Death<br>6
- The Town of No Return<br>7 - Dial a Deadly
Number<br>8 - The Joker<br>9 - Too Many Christmas Trees<br>10
- The Grave-Diggers<br><br>Avengersly yours...
My top five would be (in no particular order):<br>Honey for the Prince<br>Dial a
Deadly Number<br>The Positive Negative Man<br>Something Nasty in the
Nursery<br>The Gilded Cage<br><br>Mike
Hey, lets see, my favorite episode is probably
the Superlative Seven. It was the very first episode
of the show I ever saw. When I was about seven years
old in 1978 it was running late nights on ABC (or
CBS, I can't remeber which one) and I remember
thinking wow. That was also the year I discovered The
Prisoner, another cool show of the time.
All of my collection stems from the A&E
broadcasts in 1990-1991 as well. I'm sorry that you lost all
of your tapes, that must be very
disheartening.<br><br>While I certainly think that the Tara King era was less
interesting as a whole than the prior eras, there are several
episodes that I really love and think are amongst the best
of the series. If you want to see some reviews of
those episodes, check out my own website, which can be
accessed by clicking on the "Founder's Website" to the
left, or by clicking

, as for Lady Diana, I think she was very good, but
lacked polish. It would have been interesting to see how
her character developed over a full
season.<br><br>Mike
thanx qqf - I actually had previously cast my
vote in the originalavengers poll. I've been hearing
about A&E's declaration of intent for the longest time.
I actually recorded the entire run that A&E did of
all the Avengers a few years back but lost them all
in a fire so you can imagine I've been eager to
rebuild my library. <br><br>Although I was never a huge
Tara King fan, some of the later stories were among
the most amusing. But I'd like to hear your opinion
on the Avenger that could have been Lady Diana
Forbes-Blakeney. Although the story she apeeared in during the
Tara King run wasn't my favourite, her character has
always caught my imagination as being what an
Avenger-girl could and should be. Thoughts?<br><br>Morph.
Well, that's quite a good question. A&E has made
"verbal" promises to release ALL of the Avengers and The
New Avengers on VHS at the very least. So, certainly,
the Honor Blackman episodes are forthcoming at some
point. In fact, in A&E's recent "ask the fans" poll,
Cathy Gale was the #1 choice for the next series of
releases. A&E is currently mulling it over and will
probably make an announcement before the end of the
month.<br><br>To see the results of the recent poll, go
to:<br><a href=http://www.originalavengers.com

Hello and let me express my joy at having found
at least a few more hardcore Avengers fans here. I
want to start off by announcing how pleased I am that
the entire Diana Rigg run has made it's way to DVD.
However, as much as I absolutely adore Mrs. Emma Peel, I
am wondering if anyone knows if there are plans to
bring the Cathy Gale series to VHS/DVD. It often pains
me that she is over looked as the Avenger who set
the standard for Emma Peel and all subsequent
Avenger's women and the Steed/Gale stories are among my
favorites. (But, like everyone else, I still have a soft
spot for Mrs. Peel).
Welcome to all that have joined recently. I'd
like to start our very first discussion question.
Let's start with something simple. How about what is
your favorite episode and why? Then, we will come up
with something more challenging later.<br><br>Mike
