Your ticket to historyTuesday, December 30, 2008 4:05 PM
From: "David Plouffe, BarackObama.com" <info@...>To: "Theresa J. Steed" <Quechick007@...>

Theresa J. --
Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of the United States of America on January 20th, 2009.
It will be an unprecedented event in the history of our country, and hundreds of thousands of people will come together in Washington, D.C. to share the moment.
Supporters like you made this happen. You know that real change comes from the bottom up, not from the top down, and Barack and Joe want you to join them on this historic day. They want to start off this administration with the people who worked so hard and will continue to fight for change with them.
Between now and January 8th, 10 supporters and their guests will be selected to join the Inaugural activities.
If you make a donation -- in any amount -- to make the Inauguration a success, you and a guest could be flown to Washington, D.C., put up in a hotel, and be there as Barack is sworn in as the 44th President.
Make a donation of $5 or more right now. You and a guest could receive your ticket to history.
Unlike past inaugurations, this year's event will not be paid for by Washington lobbyists or corporations.
This campaign was funded by 4 million ordinary people giving only what they could afford, and Barack and Joe are counting on you again. Help start this administration off right -- independent of the special interest donors who have shaped Washington for too long.
This Inauguration will be open to as many Americans as possible. We'll all come together to celebrate the hope and optimism that define this movement for change.
But you could be one of 10 selected to join us in Washington for all Inaugural events. Any donation you make between now and January 8th counts -- whatever you can afford.
Show your support for a different kind of politics and a different kind of inauguration with a donation of $5 or more today:
The Inauguration will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. I hope you can join us.
Thank you,
David
David Plouffe
Campaign Manager
Obama for America
P.S. -- If you cannot make a donation, you and a guest could still be selected to receive your ticket to history. Learn more here.

If you support public funding of elections, here's a great way to show it. By taking just a few minutes to actually "vote" for this idea, you can help us get a public funding proposal presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day!
Our friends and allies at Change.org are conducting a nationwide vote on the best "Ideas for Change in America." Only the top two vote-getters will make the cut, and so far publicly funded elections is one of the two — but only narrowly. Will you help put public funding over the top? We only have until Wednesday, 12/31 — vote now!
If we can get enough votes, Change.org "will then build a national campaign to advance [the] idea in Congress, marshaling the resources of Change.org, MySpace, and our dozens of partner organizations and millions of combined members." Wouldn't that be a great way to ring in the New Year?
Voting is quick and easy. Just click here and click the blue button that says "Vote!" with a number over it. Then sign up for Change.org (if you haven't already), then check for a confirmation email and confirm your account by clicking the link. Click the "Vote!" button again and your vote for publicly funded elections will be counted.
And please be sure to help us get out the vote by alerting your friends, so we can build the movement and make sure we're high on President Obama's agenda.

Dear Theresa,
Thanks to you, 2008 will forever be known as the year when America's grassroots movement transformed our politics and set our country in a profound New Direction.
As we close out this groundbreaking year, I just wanted to say thank you. It is because of you, that President-elect Obama will soon take the oath of office and 24 more Democrats will soon take their place beside him as the newest Members of Congress.
Just as our victories would not have happened without your incredible support, America's challenges will not be met without your continued grassroots participation. That's why I'm asking for your feedback about the issues that are most important to you and how we can best use this mandate for change that you helped to create.
Watch my special video message about what we accomplished together and then tell me your ideas on how to best bring the change we need.
I cannot possibly thank you enough for all that you accomplished over these past two years. You changed the game on how political campaigns are run and your continued support will usher in dramatic change for America.
Now, let's go help President-elect Obama and our stronger Democratic Congress change America and make history again in 2010.
Thanks again,

We may miss opportunities to fight for clean energy and good jobs in January.

Dear Theresa J,
This is a moment of great urgency. A new Congress and a new president take office in a little over a week, with a mandate to make clean energy a national economic priority.
Decisions made in the next couple months will affect energy policy for a generation. If we don't turn New Apollo Program principles into public policies now, we might not get another chance.
We need $25,000 by midnight December 31st to counter the campaign Big Oil will mount next month to stop our clean energy, good jobs reform.
Please make a tax-deductible contribution before midnight December 31st!
Even a modest donation will strengthen our ability to pass real reforms NOW, in this watershed moment for the future of our economy and our country.
Our plan, The New Apollo Program, offers a new path for American prosperity. It would create 5 million jobs, kick our oil addiction and address the climate crisis – all while building a stronger economy.
This bold plan is about jumpstarting clean energy innovation and creating good, green jobs. It's about retraining electricians to do solar installation, converting an old freight car plant in Clinton, Illinois, to produce wind towers, and bringing new hope to working families in Newark, where the city's economic recovery plan centers on green jobs.
And it all comes down to the next few weeks. That's why it's so urgent that we marshal the resources now – whatever you can give will help.
Together, we can put a plan in place to build a better life for all of us – better jobs, stronger communities, a healthier environment, a more secure nation. I'm excited about meeting the challenge with you.
I urge you to make a tax-deductible donation to the Apollo Alliance today. With a new president taking office and a new grassroots commitment to a green economy, this is absolutely the right time to get involved.
Thanks for everything you've done. I hope you can be with us now when we need you most.

Sincerely,

Dear Theresa,

Thank you.
The ocean takes care of us all year, physically, and now more than ever, emotionally. Just thinking about the ocean brings a calm peacefulness and hope for a beautiful future. The ocean gives us so much. It’s time to give back.
The best way you can give back to the ocean, as the end of 2008 approaches and you make your final tax-deductible donations, is to donate to Ocean Conservancy.
Looking ahead to 2009, with your support, we will give back to the ocean in many ways, including advocating that the government’s proposed plan in the Pacific includes full protections for coral reef ecosystems. We will advance our work on Gulf of Mexico fisheries, and we will continue to push for passage of the reauthorization of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act in the next Congress.
Our ocean belongs to us all and sustains us all, yet it is subject to enormous political and economic pressures. Please send your most generous contribution, in any amount you can afford, as an investment in our ocean for future generations.

Dear Theresa,

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday, knowing that this new year holds out opportunities and formidable challenges for progressives pursuing an inside/outside strategy for meaningful change. I sincerely look forward to your joining our 2009 PDA National Conference calls - where we hone our talking points and advocacy skills on the roster of PDA priority issues; coordinate our local and national activities on legislative campaigns and Congressional lobbying ; and connect PDA activists from red, blue and purples states throughout the country.

A message from Sam Waterston, star of TV's Law and OrderMonday, December 29, 2008 2:13 PM
From: "Sam Waterston" <info@...>To: "Theresa J Steed" <Quechick007@...>

Dear Theresa J,

The election of 2008 may prove to be as historically significant as 1932 when Franklin D. Roosevelt was chosen to lead the country out of the Great Depression. In some ways, President-elect Obama and Congress will face a tougher task, with a long list of interconnected issues asking for immediate attention. The economy is hurting, our healthcare system needs an overhaul, we remain dependent on foreign oil, and the war in Iraq drags on.
But we must also address campaign finance reform. It impacts all our other challenges because it impacts the quality of our leadership. And it will have an immediate, positive effect on how we attend to all our other political questions and conflicts -- with more efficiency, greater transparency, fairness, and effect.
Public Campaign is leading the way on this effort. They've already helped pass laws in seven states and two cities that have created Clean Elections systems and now they are working to bring this tried and tested model to Congress.
Let's help Public Campaign finish the job. Click here to donate to Public Campaign's special end of year campaign.
The current pay-to-play system simply isn't working. The costs of campaigning have become exorbitant, forcing candidates to go dialing-for-dollars every day. Big money bundlers own the power. Come January, we need to work with the 111th Congress and the new administration to reduce the role of money in politics, and put the focus on ideas and direct communication with voters.
There is already a bill in Congress with bipartisan, bicameral support. In the Senate, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) are cosponsors of the Fair Elections Now Act and Reps. John Larson (D-Conn.) and Walter Jones (R-N.C.) are cosponsors of a companion bill in the House.
Click here to help us start the New Year off right, by working to bring Fair Elections to Congress.
Help Public Campaign in their effort to make 2009 a year of unprecedented change. Together, we can advance Fair and Clean Elections in Congress and expand public financing to more states.
Click here to make a tax-deductible donation to Public Campaign.
Sincerely,
Sam Waterston

From: "Diane Shamis/Progressive Democrats of America" <diane@...>To: Quechick007@...
-----Inline Attachment Follows-----

Dear Theresa,

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday, knowing that this new year holds out opportunities and formidable challenges for progressives pursuing an inside/outside strategy for meaningful change. I sincerely look forward to your joining our 2009 PDA National Conference calls - where we hone our talking points and advocacy skills on the roster of PDA priority issues; coordinate our local and national activities on legislative campaigns and Congressional lobbying ; and connect PDA activists from red, blue and purples states throughout the country.
Please find below our schedule for January's PDA conference calls. While our Tuesday IOT (Issue Organizing Team) calls focus on our analysis and legislative agenda with regard to particular issues (the PDA priorities on our Progressive Agenda), our Thursday State Organizing calls convene PDA organizers to discuss how we build effective PDA infrastructure and how to implement a coordinated strategy to carry out citizen lobbying and electoral efforts.
We welcome any questions or suggestions regarding this work - as we  progressives step up to the challenge of an exciting era with a new Congress and an Obama administration. It is imperative that we become neither complacent or disheartened, but see this period as an historic opportunity to have unique impact on the federal government to promote peace as well as economic and social justice by redirecting resources and policy to meet human needs; to address the climate crisis and other environmental issues; and to achieve comprehensive, guaranteed healthcare for all through a publicly financed national system.
All calls commence at 9 pm ET, 8 pm CT, 7 pm MT and 6 pm PT.

Cars can be run on air
- right now
No news is good news
Odds are you've never heard of this car.
Why not?
Why is a French company developing it with zero help from the high rolling US-UK dominated global financial system which until recently had money for every loony scheme imaginable?
Answer: The banking system and the oil industry are closely intertwined and they want to protect their investment in the gasoline infrastructure at all costs.
Fortunately, France doesn't have the same commitment to gasoline as fuel that the US and UK does.
France does have oil companies, but it doesn't have the equivalent of Exxon or Royal Dutch Shell.
India doesn't either.
But the French and the Indians do have superb engineers.
Assuming that the collapse of the global financial system doesn't derail the launch of this car, India and France will have vehicles that are completely independent of the oil companies.
No toxic fuel, no toxic emissions, super low cost, utter reliability, and here's the really cool part: the "fuel" could be available anywhere there is room for an air compressor including your own home.
What's not to like about this? Why is the news of this technology all but banned in the US?
The banking system and the oil industry (and news media industry) are closely intertwined.
It's really that simple.

Madoff falloutTuesday, December 30, 2008 11:01 AM
From: "Eli Pariser, MoveOn.org Civic Action" <moveon-help@...>To: "Theresa J.Steed" <Quechick007@...>
For the next three days, your contribution to progressive organizations hurt by Madoff's scam will be tripled.

Contribute

Dear MoveOn member,
You've probably heard about how Wall Street financier Bernard Madoff scammed investors out of at least $50 billion.
But you may not have heard that his victims included the foundations that support some really important progressive organizations. Groups that fight for human rights, fair elections and racial justice are getting hit hard—just in time for the holidays. We've worked side-by-side with many of them.
If these groups can't replace the funding that came from investment accounts that Madoff stole, they may be forced to start cutting important projects or, in some cases, even lay off staff.
Can you pitch in $25 or $50 for each of the four organizations we're highlighting below? Our friends at Atlantic Philanthropies and the Open Society Institute will each match every dollar that comes in until January 1! So, for the next three days, your donation of $25 or $50 means $75 or $150 for groups affected by Madoff. If a few thousand of us give together, it can make an enormous difference—and help repair some of the damage Madoff has done. Click here to contribute:
Your end-of-the-year gift will be tax-deductible as if you had made the gift directly to the designated charities; we will forward 100% of your contribution to the organizations you select.

Many organizations have been hit by this crisis. We're highlighting the four that MoveOn has worked closely with over the last few years. Here's a bit about each of the groups:
The Brennan Center for Justice is a nonpartisan institute that focuses on fundamental issues of democracy and justice. Their work ranges from voting rights to redistricting reform to checking presidential power in the fight against terrorism. MoveOn has worked with the Brennan Center closely in the fight for fair elections. Chip in to help them out here.
Human Rights Watch is one of the world's leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, they give voice to the oppressed and hold oppressors accountable for their crimes. Its rigorous, objective investigations and strategic, targeted advocacy build intense pressure for action and raise the cost of human rights abuse. MoveOn has worked with Human Rights Watch on campaigns to preserve the constitution and protect human rights in America and abroad. Chip in to help them out here.
Advancement Project is a policy, communications and legal action group committed to racial justice founded by a team of veteran civil rights lawyers in 1998. They have pursued critical litigation to protect voters and also support grassroots movements for universal opportunity and just democracy in the areas of education and immigrants' rights. MoveOn has worked with Advancement Project to stop vote suppression, especially among minority folks. Chip in to help them out here.
The Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a nonprofit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change. MoveOn has worked with CCR to hold President Bush accountable for his unconstitutional acts, from illegal wiretaps to Guantanamo. Chip in to help them out here.
2008 has been an extraordinary year. Together, MoveOn's 5 million members have done so much—and we have a new president and new hope to show for it. But we wouldn't be where we are as a country without a strong movement of interconnected progressive organizations. Let's come together one last time to keep that movement going strong.
Thanks for all you do.
–Eli, Carrie, Ilyse and the entire MoveOn.org Civic Action team
