HR 615 - Please forward to everyone you know

Subject: HR 615

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page
amendment, courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn which would require all Members of
Congress and their staff members to enroll in any new government-run health
plan.

Congressman John Fleming has proposed an amendment that would require
Congressmen and Senators to take the same health care plan that they would force
on us. (Under proposed legislation they are exempt.)

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go to his Website and sign his
petition.  The process is very simple.  I have done just that at:
http://fleming.house.gov/index.html .
Senator Coburn and Congressman Fleming are both physicians.
Regardless of your political beliefs, it sure seems reasonable that Congress
should have exactly the same medical coverage that they impose on the rest of
us.
Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

Thanks.

Thanks from me too, Jim, for that link to Carol's Comet. I didn't understand
your comment,Carol, about the Comet getting bigger, until I saw the photos and
then checked a book I have, The Cars of Lincoln-Mercury and realised that from
1968 to 1971, the Comet wasn't the compact Ford Maverick based model built from
1971, but an intermediate based, larger car. I thought the Maverick replaced the
Falcon in 1968,but it was 1970. Your Comet is very nice. Where do you find the
"Articles by fans section" with the picture of you, Hugh and the Comet? I looked
through the files and couldn't find it.

Hi everybody!
I finally got the pictures of my 2 SEARCH license plates up on "Hub
Garage".
You should be able to get there by googeling "Hub Garage" then go to
Carol's Comet. Every body here will get the titles I gave to the cars, but I
bet
nobody at Hub Garage will get them! I did try for "PROBE 1" for the
Somerset, but I didn't get it. Maybe they thought it was something dirty at the
license office. I use the Somerset for a backup car to drive to work. There
are a lot of pictures of the Comet's custom interior- and one of my, uh,
custom exterior, based on the Comet's hood.

Thanks for the link Jim! I don't know how to do all that stuff. It was quite a
struggle to get all that posted, but I'm having fun with it. Nobody on Hub has
asked about the titles or license plates yet! Thanks for the compliment too! I
guess you can see why Hugh O'Brian liked it! If I wasn't afraid of what the
license office would do I'd try for one for the 95 Oldsmobile, but after getting
the Comet's renewal (shudder!) . I'm sure they will have lost the Somerset's
plates by December!!

That's correct.  Stevens passed in 1998.

However, the production team on the
new series kept his name posthumously
in the credits as a remembrance.

Got another question maybe somebody can answer. I looked up Leslie Stevens on
IMDb and it says he died in 1998. But it also credits him with a bunch of Outer
limits from 2002. Were these maybe scripts or stories that he had written but
not done anything with and somebody dug them out?

I wasn't much into Outer Limits. Imagine what his brilliant mind would have come
up with for SEARCH with today's technology!

Hi: The other possibility which was brought up by Actingman was that it could
have been an additional 'optional' episode that may have been in the planning
stages, but was nixed when NBC cancelled the series.

Network 'options' for additional series episodes
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/probe_control/message/5585

We haven't run into any filmclips of Grayson Hall so far. But from what we have
seen, Lincoln Enterprises apparently also did not finish cutting all the film
they had. And Lincoln had no filmclips from the last eight episodes because it
was the Bob Justman connection that got them the filmclips from the first 15.

Another possibility that hasn't been mentioned could be that she was set to do
the role, but something got overruled and she was replaced before she could even
get before a camera.

There was the "Star Trek" example where John Drew Barrymore was originally cast
as Lazarus in "The Alternative Factor," but failed to show up for shooting and
had to be replaced at the last minute by Robert Brown, causing the episode to go
two days over schedule.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708451/trivia

And there was "Back to the Future," which was shot once with Eric Stolz as Marty
McFly, then re-shot with Michael J. Fox in the role.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22Back+to+the+Future%22+%22Eric+Stolz%22&b\
tnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g-sx2

I'm not saying this happened with Ms. Hall, it's just another example of what
can and does happen sometimes.

Wish we had more clues on this. All we have is that it was to have been a Doug
McClure episode. Burgess Meredith was mentioned, so would she have had scenes
in Probe Control? It would have been nice to have had the name of another guest
star, or the director's name, or something like that, but we don't.

So we are reduced to speculation.

The only other possibility of nailing this down would be if papers relating to
"Search" were being stored at UCLA or some other university, maybe a memo could
be found on this. But only certain categories of writers and researchers are
allowed access to materials of this nature. And it could like looking for a
needle in a haystack.

Or someone could ask John Strong in a future interview if he remembers anything
about Grayson Hall? (Hint, hint.)

Hmmmm.  That 'recast and reshot' theory is very interesting, tjveil.  And I
think it's a sound suggestion.

You'd think the producers/casting director would be familiar enough with Hall's
work to've known if she fit the part well enough.  But, I guess
stranger things have happened.

HI,Carol,
Thanks for your eply. I didn't know Buick made a model called the Somerset.
Honeymoon to Kill is probably my favourite, too, mainly as Doug got to drive a
lot of cars,in it his own Corvette, a Citroen SM (The first one of those I saw
was in a shopping mall in L.A. in 1972, maybe it was the same one Doug drove in
this ep and in The Packagers), and VW pick-up. He got to drive a Porsche 911 and
Datsun 240Z and ride in the back of a Mercedes-Benz 300 "Adenauer" in Numbered
for Death. The car that Cameron is taken away from Probe H.Q. in Moment of
Madness is a 1957 Ford sedan delivery, Doug drove a 1957 four door sedan in
Checkmate.
Nic.

Honeymoon to Kill just had everything for me. The humor excitement and all.
LOVED it when Cam called Grover an "incompetent exponent of congenital
stupidity!" My total favorite line from SEARCH!

Just caught up on this discussion of Grayson Hall and the "missing" Search
episode.

It's entirely possible there were episodes that didn't air. But I think there
are two other possibilities.

One is that she was in an episode that did air, in a smaller part that was left
on the cutting room floor.

The other -- and this does happen from time to time -- is that her part was
shot, found inadequate for whatever reason, and then re-cast and re-shot. (That
would fit with the comment about it possibly being an "unpleasant experience.")
This most famously happened to an actress who was originally supposed to fill
the "Mrs. Peel" role in The Avengers. They shot the season's first episode with
her, decided she was not right for the part, and went back and re-shot the
episode with Diana Rigg. (And the rest, as they say, is history.)

From Grayson's Bio:

"One obscure job involved a short-lived program entitled Search co-starring
Burgess Meredith and Doug McClure. While some episodes have aired, her work has
not surfaced. She brushed off discussions of it, hence one believes it to have
been an unpleasant experience"

Hey, Mitch---

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but...

This has been discussed on the list before, and as I recall, the only place it's
mentioned is in Hall's bio. We've never been able to establish any other
circumstance of such a thing existing. No scripts, no film clips, no other
actors mentioning they were involved with it. Nothing. It seems odd that Hall
would mention it if it never occurred, but... we've never been able to prove it.

I am curious about the exact phraseology of the mention in the book. Do you
think you could share it with us, please?

The Internet Movie Database lists 44 titles with location shooting at Toluca
Lake. However, Search is not among the titles.

If the link below is not reproduced correctly, you should be able to highlight
the full link, and then paste it into your browser window. Or go to the main
site at imdb dot com and put Toluca Lake into their search engine.

More from wikipedia:

And Google maps (I added a couple more maps to that Photos 'ShootingLocations'
folder):

The first season of "The Rockford Files" is also out on DVD, and "The Kirkoff
Case" was the first regular episode (after the initial pilot movie).

I added a map and a couple of pics I found online of a few signs saying "Toluca
Lake." Hopefully this might help folks who live nearby who may wish to find the
area.

In "The Clayton Lewis Document," we did not get to see much of the exterior of
the house. You get to see what may be a back porch area behind Julie Adams, and
you see stonework and an arch as Bianco leaves the house, and you see a bad guy
behind the window as Bianco drives away.

Then again, you don't get to see any of these particular areas in the Rockford
episode, just the lake area with table and chairs, and that wood paneled room
with the same fireplace.

I'll add those Search vidcaps to the Photos 'ShootingLocations' folder.

I tried doing a Google "street view" of the house around the lake area. Some of
the houses are obscured by walls, garages, and trees, so you can't see much.
And some of the houses appear to have been remodeled and/or modernized.

I did make a small mistake in my original post. James Garner's reference to
Toluca Lake and James Woods was in Part 5 of the YouTube series, not Part 4.

By this point, the interview had gone beyond Rockford Files and into Garner's
projects afterward. He worked with James Woods in "Promise," and it was here
that Garner referred back to Rockford since Woods appeared in the Rockford
episode, "Kirkoff Case."

Garner Part 5 refers to Toluca Lake near 10:45 point:

And the area is indeed named "Toluca Lake," and not "Lake Toluca." :-)

==============================

There are two new pics in Photos, in the 'ShootingLocations' folder.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/probe_control/photos/album/1325992073/pic/list

I saw one of the James Garner interview videos on YouTube where he discusses
'The Rockford Files.' He mentioned the first episode, "The Kirkoff Case," which
featured James Woods and the fact that their scenes were filmed at Lake Toluca
in Los Angeles.

Garner discusses Rockford and Lake Toluca on YouTube (approx. 28 minutes):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxb7SgKQCBU

I remembered the Rockford episode and recalled that the same area was used in
the 'Search' episode "The Clayton Lewis Document."

This was the sort of backyard patio area with a table and chairs next to a lake.
Scenes were also filmed inside the house for both shows.

Doubtful that a fan could obtain access to see the house or lake area or take
pictures unless you knew the people who lived there.

It is more possible that a Google or other online 'street view' could be found
of the front of the house in question, that is, if the appearance of the house
hasn't changed since 1973-74. If I find something along these lines, I'll post
something.

Anyway, comparison pics are in the Photos section. If the top link above does
not work, go to 'Photos' and open the 'ShootingLocations' folder.
