OPINION
I.
On July 11, 2003, the defendant was driving on South Illinois Avenue near Bethel Valley Road in Oak Ridge when she was stopped by a city police officer. He cited her for speeding, i.e., going 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. It is undisputed that South Illinois Avenue is a state highway, namely State Route 62.
On September 8, 2003, the defendant was convicted of speeding in the Oak Ridge Municipal Court and fined $30 and costs. She appealed her conviction to the trial court. In the trial court, the defendant asserted that the posted speed limit on State Route 62 had not been established in compliance with applicable law. The trial court refused to permit the defendant to pursue her argument, opining that it did not have jurisdiction to entertain such a defense:

[M]y ruling was that this belongs in Chancery Court in Davidson County. I don't set the policy as it relates to those things. And I really don't think it's an issue that addresses itself to the venue. State matters, just like some of the other matters that we deal with, it's usually the Chancery Court on policy dealing with setting speed limits and whether or not there has been a violation of the discretion as it relates to that. So the issue I have within my control has to do with the speeding. The other things have to do with whether or not this policy of the State of Tennessee was one that should have been exercised as it was. Following a bench trial, the court found the defendant guilty of speeding and imposed a fine of $15 and costs. From this judgment, the defendant appeals.

II.
While the parties argue a number of legal issues, we believe the dispositive issue in this case is whether the defense asserted by the defendant – that the posted speed limit was not legally established – is a defense that can be asserted in a case involving a charge of driving at a speed in excess of a posted speed limit.1 This is a question of law; hence, our de novo review is undertaken with no presumption of correctness as to the trial court's judgment. Ganzevoort v. Russell, 949 S.W.2d 293, 296 (Tenn. 1997).

The speeding citation in this case specifically charges that the defendant committed the "offense" of "speeding 67 mph in 45 mph zone." The City's brief does not expressly argue that, regardless of whether the posted 45 mph speed limit was validly established or not, the defendant's speed, i.e., 67 mph, nevertheless still exceeded the maximum speed permitted on a state highway of the type of South Illinois Avenue; and that she can, as a consequence of this fact, still be found guilty of "speeding." See Tenn. Code Ann. § 55-8-152(a) & (c) (2004). Cf. Commonwealth v. Kondor, 438 Pa. Super. 147, 651 A.2d 1135 (Pa. Super. Ct. 1994).

Since the parties disagree sharply as to whether South Illinois Avenue is a "controlled-access highway," see Tenn. Code Ann. § 55-8-152(c), and since the City does not make the argument alluded to above, we decline to address the issue of whether the defendant can be found guilty of "speeding" in the absence of a validly-established 45 mph speed zone. However, we would again note that the defendant was specifically charged with driving at a speed in excess of that permitted by a "45 mph zone."
III.
It is axiomatic that a defendant has a right to attempt to prove a properly-asserted, legallyrecognized defense to an action asserted against the defendant. Thus, we must decide if the defense asserted by the defendant is a bar to the speeding violation with which she was charged.
If there is a posted speed limit, and no question is raised as to whether that posted speed limit was properly established, there is a presumption of regularity and validity; in such cases, proof of the posted speed limit gives rise to a rebuttable presumption of validity. Thomas v. Harper, 385S.W.2d 130, 138 (Tenn. Ct. App. 1964). However, we have recognized that the posting of a speed limit must be pursuant to "statutory authority":

Where there is evidence of a posted speed limit and no question is made as to its regularity or validity there is a presumption that the posted speed is in compliance with the law. However, if the posted speed sign was placed without statutory authority, the failure of a motorist to heed its restrictions could be negligence but he should not be penalized with the consequences of the rule of negligence per se of violating a statute, since a statutorily established speed limit prevails over speed signs erected without statutory authority. Johnson v. Calfee, No. 118, 1988 WL 36472, at *1 (Tenn. Ct. App. E.S., filed April 21, 1988) (internal citations omitted).

Johnson involved a complaint seeking damages for injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Id. The defendant's principal defense was that the plaintiff was driving recklessly and speeding. Id. The speed limit on the road where the accident occurred was critical to the jury's determination. Id., at *2. A police officer testified that although the speed limit on the road was 55 mph unless "otherwise posted," there was a sign approximately one mile from the accident site indicating that the speed limit was 45 mph. Id., at *1. However, the county court clerk testified that there was no legislative enactment authorizing the reduction in the speed limit along the relevant stretch of road. Id. He opined that the speed limit was actually 55 mph. Id. Despite a request from the plaintiff that the trial court instruct the jury that the speed limit was 55 mph, the court left the decision of whether it was 55 mph or 45 mph to the jury without furnishing the jury any guiding principles by which to make that decision. Id. Since a speed sign enacted without authority cannot be the basis for finding a party guilty of negligence per se, we held that the trial court had not properly charged the jury as to the law pertaining to the establishment of a speed limit. Id., at *1-2.

We are not aware of a Tennessee appellate court decision in which a defendant cited for speeding has employed the defense that a posted speed limit was not validly established. However, other states have addressed the use of such a defense in speeding cases. A Virginia appellate court reversed the judgment of a trial court which had precluded a defendant charged with speeding from presenting evidence that a posted speed limit had not been lawfully established. Bahen v. City of Hampton, No. 0436-03-1, 2004 WL 2381375, at *2 (Va. Ct. App., filed October 26, 2004). The trial court had excluded the proffered testimony of a city traffic engineer who planned to testify that no traffic engineering investigation of the relevant street had been conducted as required by law. Id., at *1. In holding that the trial court erred in excluding this testimony, the Virginia court stated as follows:

A city traffic engineer's proffered testimony tended to prove,although not conclusively establish, that no traffic or engineering study had been performed as required by Code § 46.2-1300 in order to establish a thirty-mile-per-hour speed limit on West County Street. Thus, the evidence was relevant and admissible, and the trial court erred by ruling that appellant could not challenge the speed limit and by refusing to admit or consider [the traffic engineer's] evidence in order to rebut the presumption [that the speed limit had been legally decreased]. Id., at *2. See also State v. Morse, 153 Vt. 651, 572 A.2d 1342 (Vt. 1990) (where city clerk was unable to produce an engineering survey supporting the relevant speed limit, the defendant's conviction for speeding was reversed); Commonwealth v. Kondor, 438 Pa. Super. 147, 651 A.2d 1135 (Pa. Super. Ct. 1994) (defendant charged with speeding could prevail if the Commonwealth could furnish no justification for posting a 35 mph speed limit because the department of transportation could not set speed limits arbitrarily).

We find these cases to be persuasive. In the instant case, the defendant attempted to pursue her defense that the speed limit was not properly established according to applicable law. We conclude that the defense asserted by the defendant is an appropriate defense to the speeding charge and that the trial court erred when it concluded that this issue could not be raised in that court. We pretermit all other issues raised by the parties.We express no opinion as to whether the defendant can establish, to the satisfaction of the trier of fact, that the posted speed limit on State Route 62 was not properly established. As far as the City's burden of proof is concerned, it can rely upon the presumption of validity referred to in Thomas. It will be the defendant's obligation to rebut the presumption by proving that the posted speed limit was not properly established. If she fails to satisfy this obligation, the presumption prevails and proof of the posted speed limit establishes the speed limit.
IV.
The judgment of the trial court is hereby vacated, and this case is remanded to the court below for further proceedings in accordance with this opinion. Costs on appeal are taxed to the City of Oak Ridge.

Memphis Police to Use `Amnesia-like' Injection in Lieu of Taser.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - While the Metro police had banned the use of
Tasers for a time, they still used a controversial method to subdue
unruly people, according to an I-Team report.

The city's policy to use the method, which calls for the injection of
a drug into a person, came as a "total surprise" to people most would
expect to know all about it.

For almost two years, Metro police have had the option of calling for
a needle loaded with a strong sedative to control the most unruly
people they encounter on the street.

One of the doctors who came up with the protocol said it's the safest
option out there and that it is used all over the country.

But many people said that the injection was news to them, and a top
medical ethicist said it's a troubling precedent.

The drug is called Midazolam, which is better known as Versed. People
who have had a colonoscopy have probably had a shot of the drug for
the procedure.

"The drug has an amnesia effect, and we use that therapeutically
because one of the nice ways to take care of the discomfort is to
make people forget that they've had it," said biomedical ethics and
law enforcement expert Dr. Steven Miles.

But the shots have also been used on the streets on people police
said were out of control.

One of the first to get the shot administered to them was Dameon
Beasley.

"Well, that night, I hadn't been properly taking my meds, you know,
like I'm supposed to. I got so depressed that when I was up on the
bridge running into traffic back and forth, cars dodging me,
swerving, I ended up with two sharp objects in my hands. By that
time, the police had arrived. I was charging them with these sharp
objects trying to make them shoot me, actually yelling at them to
shoot me," he said.

When a Taser didn't work on Beasley, police turned to a brand new
protocol — an injection of Versed. Officers called emergency medical
personnel for the injection.

"I remember they were holding me down. There was maybe four or five
on each side, and I remember they were calling for something, you
know. Some guy came up on the left side and hit me with it," he said.

"I do know that whatever it was works immediately. I mean, you ain't
got a chance if you are 300 pounds. It's like a horse tranquilizer. I
don't care. You're gone. It's a wrap," he said.

Beasley said he had no idea what happened after he was injected.

"I woke up — I don't know how much time had passed — with a sergeant
standing over me telling me to sign here. I didn't know what I was
signing Ms. (Channel 4 I-Team reporter Demetria) Kalodimos. I just
signed a piece of paper and was immediately right back out," he said.

Kalodimos reported that Beasley ended up at Metro General Hospital
and was then put in psychiatric care. He was not charged in the
incident on the bridge.

But Beasley's lawyer, a public defender, had no idea that Versed had
been used to subdue him until Kalodimos told him about it.

Very few people seem to know about the almost 2-year-old policy,
Kalodimos said.

The state's largest mental health advocacy group, Nashville's mental
health judge, the Nashville Rescue Mission, the American Civil
Liberties Union all said they had no knowledge of the use of the drug
by police.

"I've talked to my colleagues around the country, and none of the
people from the south to the north to the east to the west have ever
heard about this kind of program, this kind of use where they
basically force an injection upon an individual knowing nothing about
his or her medical condition," said ACLU Director Hedy Weinberg.

"I can't tell you why those individuals don't know about it," said
Dr. Corey Slovis, Nashville?s emergency medical director.

Along with medical examiner Dr. Bruce Levy, Slovis customized a
Versed policy for Nashville that is endorsed by a group of emergency
medical experts called the Eagles.

"It's something that in the medical community and in the EMS medical
community is very common. It's a given. When I surveyed the major
metropolitan areas around the country, I think only two cities were
not actively using it," Slovis said.

Some have asked the question about potential problems.

Miles said he also had never heard of Versed being used in this way.

"There is no research guideline. There is no validated protocol for
this. There's not even a clear set of indications for when this is to
be used except when people are agitated. By saying that it's done by
the emergency medical personnel, they basically are trying to have it
both ways. That is, they?re trying to use a medical protocol that is
not validated, not for a police function, arrest and detention,"
Miles said.

"The decision to administer Versed is based purely on a paramedic
decision, not a police decision," Slovis said.

It's up to the officer to call an ambulance and determine if a person
is in a condition called excited delirium.

"I don't know if I would use the word diagnosing, but they are
assessing the situation and saying, `This person is not acting
rationally. This is something I've been trained to recognize, this
seems like excited delirium.' I don't view delirium in the field as a
police function. It is a medical emergency. We're giving the drug
Versed that's routinely used in thousands of health care settings
across the country in the field by trained paramedics. I view what
we're doing as the best possible medical practice to a medical
emergency," Slovis said.

Metro Government would not release the names of the eight other
people who got Versed injections after police calls. A representative
from Metro said that the information was protected in the way a
medical record would be.

The representative said that only one person out of the nine had
shown no improvement after the injection.

Versed was most recently used on a female in early June.

Three women of child bearing age have apparently gotten shots without
consent, even though the package insert for Versed suggests that,
"the patient should be apprised of the potential hazard to the fetus."

"A single administration to calm a wildly delirious patient down even
if she's pregnant is much safer to the woman and her unborn child
than being allowed to be delirious, hypothermic, hyperventilating and
perhaps hypoxic," Slovis said.

"I would think that with enough people being able to tackle the
person to inject them, there should be another way to try to subdue
someone without putting an injection in their vein," Weinberg said.

The biggest side effect that is seen in more than 80 percent of those
who are injected with Versed is amnesia.

The side effect raises the question of a person being able to defend
themselves in court if they can't remember what happened.

"If they would've said I'd done anything after that shot, hey, I
couldn't have argued that fact. I don't remember," Beasley said.

Kalodimos reported that while doing research for this report, she
found a post on a paramedics Internet chat site that said, "One good
thing about Versed is that the patient won't remember how he got that
footprint on his chest."

"We're very careful in Nashville," Slovis said. "Every instance of
Versed use is reviewed by the both medical director, myself, our head
of EMS quality assurance. We make sure that our paramedics treat
patients right."

Miles said it would have been appropriate to put the idea of using
Versed before what's called an Institutional Review Board for study
to anticipate problems before they pop up.

"It may well be that a protocol could be designed to test the use of
Versed in handling agitated persons at the time of detention. I'm not
going to say that's not possible, but at any rate, you do it under a
condition where you collect data rather than simply just going ahead
and doing the drug and waiting to see if problems to develop," he
said.

Miles added that, "Doing medicine by the seat of your pants is not
the way to develop new therapies."

Slovis said the shots are given as a medical treatment, not a police
function, even though ultimately they aid in an arrest.

Tony Snow Dies Following Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer

(NaturalNews) To anyone keeping count, the number of high-profile personalities and celebrities dying while under the care of conventional doctors and oncologists is truly staggering. Some of the more notable deaths in recent memory include actor Heath Ledger's death following the consumption of doctor-prescribed medications, CNBC anchor Tim Russert's death while on cardiovascular medications, and even Anna Nicole Smith's death caused by a lethal combination of FDA-approved prescription medications.

Now, former White House press secretary Tony Snow has died at the young age of 53 following chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer. For reasons we will never know, Tony Snow chose the chemotherapy route in an attempt to treat his colon cancer, subjecting his body to systemic poisons that all the evidence shows produce absolutely no improvement in the five-year survival rate of colon cancer patients. And depending on the type of tumor, chemotherapy can actually accelerate the death of patients, killing them far more quickly than if they had done nothing(1).

As usual, the mainstream media is reporting that Tony Snow "died from cancer," refusing to even consider the possibility that it was the highly-toxic chemotherapy treatment that actually ended his life. I find it fascinating that the media remains unable to consider the possibility that people are killed by chemotherapy, especially when iatrogenic deaths (physician-caused fatalities) now top 780,000 Americans each year (2).

Colon cancer is easily cured with plant-based medicines
Sadly, Mr. Snow was apparently unaware that colon cancer is rather easily cured with plant-based medicines. By avoiding toxic chemicals, animal products and dangerous prescription medications while switching to a nutrient-dense diet of raw, living green juices from fresh vegetables, virtually anyone can reverse colon cancer (unless, of course, they've already gone through chemotherapy, which causes permanent damage to their immune system).

That Tony Snow would die of poison is a cruel metaphor for a man who used his own words as poison, implanting misinformation in the minds of media consumers while his bosses waged war against reason and truth (on topics like global warming, the invasion of Iraq, the Bill of Rights and many others).

I wish Tony Snow had embraced Mother Nature, cured his cancer, awakened to the real world and gone on to write a scathing book about the dark secrets of the Bush Administration. But instead, he is now dead, having maintained his loyalty to Big Pharma just as the Bush Administration has... even, perhaps, to his own death.

You reap what you sow, folks. Karma happens. And when you put your faith in Big Pharma's poisons, you are taking great risks with your own life. Tony Snow will certainly not be the last person to die following toxic chemotherapy treatments, but he is perhaps one of the best examples of what happens when you live a life steeped in poison.

The president of the American Medical Association has pancreatic cancer
In related news, the president of the AMA was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He, too, has chosen to undergo toxic chemotherapy treatment, meaning he will in all likelihood share Tony Snow's fate. Chemotherapy kills so many people that in any reasonable society, it would have been outlawed long ago -- like mercury treatments, radiation pills for energy and other forms of quackery that have since been abandoned.

Chemotherapy is quackery, too, and those who choose to poison their own bodies with extremely toxic synthetic chemicals are blindly following nothing more than the lies and deceptions of the cancer industry (which preys upon consumers, invoking fear to convert human beings into corporate profits).

People who die from chemotherapy are, in fact, collectively winning the Darwin Award. To poison your own body with dangerous chemicals isn't "medicine" or "treatment." It's not courageous or considered. It's just plain stupid. As is most of modern medicine.

Stabbing your eye with a fork is stupid. X-raying your feet to see if your shoes fit is stupid. Drinking mercury to cure "evil spirits" is stupid. And shooting up your veins with extremely toxic chemicals is stupid, too. Oncologists can wear the costumes of doctors; they can speak a high-brow-sounding language of technical jargon; they can even be licensed by the State; but in the end, they are just as stupid as a guy who bungie jumps off a bridge with cord wrapped around his neck. (Bungie jumping has far fewer fatalities than chemotherapy, by the way...)

In Tony Snow's case, the media is gushing all over itself to sing the praises of this person merely for the fact that he expired. What kind of accomplishment is that? Anybody can die. This is not an extraordinary act, especially if the best years of your life were spent promoting an evil regime. Although I wish Tony Snow's soul well in realms beyond this one, let's make no mistake about what he was here: A front man for a criminal White House that has murdered millions in the Middle East, that has unleashed weapons of mass destruction (depleted uranium) in foreign lands, that has mortgaged the financial future of Americans by driving our nation into an economic crisis, and that has habitually lied to the People on almost every point that matters: Protecting the environment, WMDs, going to war, 9/11 and much more.

In choosing to defend and promote this criminal administration, Tony Snow should earn absolutely no respect from any person interested in truth, justice, freedom and compassion for fellow human beings.

Merely expiring is not, all by itself, worthy of honor
It's silly to honor someone just because they've died. What matters is what they did when they lived. Would you honor Hitler at his grave? Of course not. People like Hitler deserve condemnation long after they've passed away. So what about Hitler press secretary? Does that person deserve honor upon passing, or is scorn more appropriate?

I believe that enablers of dangerous criminals are, themselves, guilty for their own roles in promoting, protecting or advancing the agendas of those criminals. Is President Bush a dangerous criminal? Without question his administration is largely run by criminals who are guilty of many crimes: Violating the U.S. Constitution, supporting torture in secret war prisons, conducting illegal surveillance on U.S. citizens, protecting deadly corporations that are killing millions of people (like Big Pharma) and much more. Tony Snow was a key enabler for these criminals, and for that he deserves only condemnation, not praise. His tombstone should read, "Here lies" and that's it.

A man earns respect and admiration for the way he conducts himself in life, not merely for expiring after holding a pompous-sounding title. When carefully considering what Tony Snow supported and defended, it becomes clear that Mr. Snow's actions with the Bush Administration make him something far less than honorable. That society sees fit to heap praise upon this individual merely for the fact that he has died seems quite ridiculous.

There are far better souls who have expired and received no recognition whatsoever: The midwife who delivered 500 healthy babies without drugs, the mentor who helped an inner-city kid escape a life of violence and poverty, the natural healer who inspired patients to take up exercise and healthy dietary changes, the international peace organization volunteers who bring medical supplies to war-torn regions around the world, the Big Pharma whistleblower who blows the lid on a global scandal...

These people deserve recognition, for they accomplished things that benefit humankind and help preserve the future of life on our planet.

What, I ask you, did Tony Snow ever do to benefit humankind? I can't think of a single thing. In fact, his actions actually went a long way towards deceiving humankind.

I don't believe in a literal place called Hell, but from listening to some of George Bush's religious comments, it's pretty clear that he does. And that means he and Tony Snow will someday be meeting there in a new, fiery briefing room. Maybe Tony Snow can serve as the press secretary for Satan himself!

John Lee: "Also, I was wondering what would the procedure be if an

the Rosenburgs were executed, I believe, a long time ago, but I don't
think anybody has been executed since."

Congressman Duncan: "If any American president commits treason... The
law against treason applies from the president on down - I mean,
that's one of the most serious crimes in this nation... But it is a
very serious crime. I don't know if anyone's committed that."

John Lee: "But if they are, you'd be all for having them arrested?"

Congressman Duncan: "... any military person or anyone else for that
matter...

John Lee: "You're aware of Operation NORTHWOODS, where the Pentagon
in '63 was planning to hijack US airliners, blow up US ships, and
attack Washington DC with terrorist bombings, to blame Cuba. And
then, of course, Bush is in business with the Bin Laden family, and
has been for years - in oil, in military contracts, bioweapons
contracts. That's kinda strange. That sounds like 'probable cause' to
me."

Bin Laden back in July in a US military hospital in the Middle East.

Congressman Duncan: "I do know that it did come out in many
publications, that, uh, the CIA did work with Bin Laden, back years
ago.... One time we sided with Iraq against Iran back in the '80s."

John Lee: "Sure. Iran-Contra stuff [when Rich "Dick" Cheney was
ranking Republican on the Committee]. Well, wasn't Bin Laden the
Secretary of Defense for Afganistan when we gave them $130-Million
last year? Colin Powell cut them a check."

Congressman Duncan: "Yes, we have given Afganistan quite a bit of
money over the years, and we're going to be giving them a whole lot
more... to help build up, yesterday and today, but it's been put off
until next week - the Afgan Reconstruction Act, and that's over a
Billion dollars. And I can tell you I will be voting against it....
You can buy a whole contry for that."

John Lee: "Sure. Help Haliburton get their oil pipeline finished up."

Congressman Duncan: "As much money as they're talking about, just
divide it up and, the population over there, gosh, they'll have more
money than they've seen in a long time."

John Lee: "Well, that's all the questions I had."

Harry Grothjahn: "Thank you, John, for calling."

Congressman Duncan: "Yes, Sir."

John Lee: "Thank you."

Harry Grothjahn: "... That was W199EYE, in August. It has been
released. It was a secret document - it wasn't supposed to have
gotten out, but apparently it has gotten out. And it directed the FBI
and the military intelligence people to leave the Al Quida alone, in
the United States. Are you aware of that?"

Congressman Duncan: "I don't know, Harry, I haven't heard...

Harry Grothjahn: "Well, if I can get you a copy of this document,
would you be willing to talk about this treasonous act of prior
knowledge?"

Congressman Duncan: "I don't know. I haven't heard about that
presidential directive, although I will say this - I co-sponsored a
bill with Roscoe Bartlett to really, uh, cut down on the things that
the president can do by executive order. Because for most of the
history of our country, executive orders were just used for routine
houskeeping, minor administrativ-type things, but in recent years,
presidents have come in and done really significant things - even
legislative law-making-type things through presidential directives
and executive orders. That's not right, and I think it's very much an
abuse of, in particular, the way that President Clinton handled that
executive order power. In fact, his top advisor, Paul..., was quoted
one time." He said, 'A stroke of the pen - law of the nation. Pretty
neat, huh?' Something like that, how easy it was to, uh, do all kinds
of things.... There's a lot of that stuff going on up here. It's not
about the environment, it's not about education, it's not about
healthcare, it's not about anything you can think of other than Big,
Big Money."

Harry Grothjahn: "I couldn't agree with you more. Even the Wall
Street Journal reported that Bush family is in business with the
Carlyle Group that has the Bin Laden family in that same loop, that
same business. Building military installations and oil pipelines all
over the world. Consequently, you know, it's apparent to any casual
observer. I think the Atlanta Constitution-Journal had a poll that
had an opinion about the government prior knowledge of 911. And the
public opinion poll, after 2 days, was taken down because it was too
much an embarassment to the administration, because 52% of the people
responding to their polls believed that the administration had prior
knowledge to this attack."

Congressman Duncan: "Well, I hadn't seen that poll. But when I was
talking about how all this stuff goes back to Big money. I did a
program in which I talked about prescription drugs and the high cost
of medicine - why these pills cost so much. And it's the federal
government.... And it's not just the medical industry, the small guys
are run out of business, then the medium-sized guys go next. Every
highly regulated industry ends up in the hands of a few big giants."

Dear Colleague,

During the Fourth of July holiday a WWII veteran stood ram-rod
straight in his crisp dress uniform and saluted our flag as it passed
in a parade. His silent reverential stance was a powerful reminder of
the love of country that is reflected in our veterans of all
generations and all services.

It is also a powerful reminder of the responsibilities of the
President of the United States in his capacity as Commander in Chief.

It is worse than heartbreaking that George W. Bush, as Commander in
Chief, caused this country to go to war based on information which
was false, and which he knew to be false. The consequences for our
troops have been devastating. We have lost 4,116 of our beloved
servicemen and women since the war began, with over 30,000 physically
wounded and countless others emotionally wounded. The toll on the
service persons and their families will be felt throughout their
lives.

There can be no greater responsibility of a Commander in Chief than
to command based on facts on the ground, and to command in fact and
in truth. There can be no greater offense of a Commander in Chief
than to misrepresent a cause of war and to send our brave men and
women into harm's way based on those misrepresentations.

There has been a breach of faith between the Commander in Chief and
the troops. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or with Al Qaeda's role
in 9/11. Iraq had neither the intention nor the capability of
attacking the United States. Iraq did not have weapons of Mass of
Destruction. Yet George W. Bush took our troops to war under all of
these false assumptions. Given the profound and irreversible
consequences to our troops, if his decision was the result of a
mistake, he must be impeached. Since his decision was based on lies,
impeachment as a remedy falls short, but represents at least some
effort on our part to demonstrate our concern about the sacrifices
our troops have made.

This Thursday evening I will bring a privileged resolution to the
House with a single Article of Impeachment of President Bush for
taking our nation and our troops to war based on lies. We owe it to
our troops who even at this hour stand as sentinels of America
because they love this country and will give their lives for it. What
are we willing to do to match their valor and the valor of their
successors? Are we at least willing to defend the Constitution from
the comfort and security of our Washington, DC offices?

Congressional panel to review Kucinich's call to impeach Bush

But the House committee won't actually consider removing the
president from office.

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich's single article of impeachment
will get a committee hearing -- but not on removing President Bush
from office.

The House on Tuesday voted 238 to 180 to send his impeachment
article -- for Bush's reasoning in taking the country to war in Iraq -
- to the Judiciary Committee, which buried Kucinich's previous 35-
article effort in June.

This time, the panel will open hearings, possibly as soon as next
week. But House Democratic leaders said the proceedings would not be
about Bush's impeachment, a first step in the Constitution's process
of a removing a president from office.

Instead, the panel will conduct an election-year review -- possibly
televised -- of anything Democrats consider to be Bush's abuse of
power. Kucinich, an Ohio Democrat, is likely to testify. So will
several scholars and administration critics, Democrats said.

The hearing is a modest gesture by House Democratic leaders to
members like Kucinich who insist that Bush's reasons for going to war
meet the standard for impeachment.

Kucinich had said that if his impeachment article was tabled he would
simply propose another one. In June, he spent four hours on the House
floor reading his longer resolution into the record, only to see it
buried in committee.

vinegar can be used to neutralize nicotine.

This fact can be used to break the cycle of addiction to nicotine
(alkaloid), by applying vinegar to tobacco cigarettes. Patents use
proprietary acetic acids (acetones) in order to charge a high price
for inventions, while vinegar (acetic acid) is cheap and cannot be
patented. Vinegar is safer than untested chemicals manufactuered by
Eastman Kodak.

Vinegar can be applied by the addict to cigarette filters or tobacco,
or it can be applied covertly by concerned friends and family. White
vinegar is invisible when applied to cigarette filters. It can be
applied via medicinal dropper (Pasteur pipette).

pH). Chemistry 101 teaches that acids neutralize bases. Vinegar and
other acids are used to wash the tobacco leaves to neutralize the

feeling suicidal unless or until they get their next fix of whatever
drug they are addicted to, including alcohol or nicotine.

Addicts are classified as insane by both the medical industry and the
judicial industry, which profits greatly from addition. Tobacco
addiction is routinely used as a torture device by police during
interrogations, by withholding tobacco from the addicts until they
confess, or falsely confess. Drug addicts total more than half of all
prison inmates, at a cost to taxpayers of $50,000 per year per
inmate. Drug rehab facilities charge about $50,000 per treatment.

Incarceration is the only "treatment" used to cure addicts, in prison
or in psychiatric lockdowns, with virtually zero success. In fact,
traditional "treatments" for all addictions result in higher
incidence of suicide and fatal overdose.

Can cigarettes really be compared to Crack?

The modern American cigarette is to tobacco what crack is to cocaine.

We've all heard that crack can addict on the first try. We've all
been disgusted by the pregnant moms who prostitute themselves for
another hit of this mysterious substance. But I've wondered what made
crack so potent to overpower a mother's maternal instincts to protect
her unborn child, and I've doubted that cigarettes really could ever
be compared to a substance that leads one to kill, rob, or
prostitute. After all, who's been murdered for a Marlboro?

But still the statistics tell us that more people can quit cocaine,
crack or heroin than nicotine. Most smokers, when asked, say they
wish they had never started.

I've also struggled with the tobacco companies' arguments that their
product is not addictive because fifty million Americans have quit
and because one million Americans quit each year. But, just as they
say their products are only like gummy bears, they recently maintain
that their use of ammonia, a primary ingredient in urine, is only to
improve a cigarette's taste.1 Rat poison was also used to improve
taste in pipe tobacco.2 The tobacco companies have never officially
disclosed their addition of ammonia, which has only come to light in
the recent cigarette litigation. It is not a natural constituent of
tobacco. The importance of that additive is not fully understand and
appreciated by the public and by our decision makers.

For example, I recently met a FDA employed, M.D./Ph.D. at the annual
convention for the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. I
asked this imminently qualified gentleman the following: "What does
ammonia do?" He did not know and could only state that ammonia is a
base. But my question was overheard by Dr. James Pankow, whom I
credit with the epiphany that the modern American cigarette is to
tobacco what crack is to cocaine.

Dr. Pankow quickly asked that I call him "Jim" and explained that the
basis for the comparison between the modern cigarette and crack
cocaine is the chemical process of "free basing," which is
accomplished by the additive ammonia. This process is used by most
tobacco companies3 and was used by Richard Pryor when he accidentally
set himself on fire several years ago.

To understand the chemical process, imagine a birthday party balloon
held down with a string. This is like the nicotine molecule in its
natural state. This molecule is relatively heavy, and does not
evaporate easily. The "freed" nicotine molecule is like the "freed"
helium balloon whose string has been cut loose.4 It
ultimately "disassociates" from the tobacco upon heating or burning
at lower temperatures and in greater amounts. Although simplified,
the following explanation of this chemical process is accurate enough
for us lay people. A base picks up hydrogen atoms from other
molecules. Hydrogen atoms are what "weigh down" the nicotine or
cocaine molecules. Ammonia, a base, has the chemical composition NH3,
or one nitrogen atom bound to three hydrogen atoms. When ammonia is
added to nicotine, ammonia picks up one additional hydrogen atom from
the nicotine molecule and becomes NH4.5

The free base process simultaneously matches the PH of the tobacco
smoke to the PH of the lungs. Neutral PH is 7.0 which is the PH of
water or H2O. PH is the measure of a substance's relative propensity
to take or give away hydrogen atoms. The PH of the lungs is 7.4. (The
PH of the mouth is lower or acidic, and thus the reverse process is
used for chewing tobacco.) Bioavailability is maximized by matching
the PH of the nicotine to the PH of the membranes through which the
nicotine must pass before flowing in the bloodstream.6

Richard Pryor understood how to apply Dr. Pankow's balloon analogy.
He free based cocaine by mixing cocaine, ammonia and ether (and some
water). The ether rises to the top of the mixture, along with
the "freed" cocaine. The NH4 stays below in the water. The cocaine
and ether are siphoned off with a spoon and should be left to dry.
Although ether has characteristics that make it an effective vehicle
to separate the freed cocaine, it is also extremely flammable. In
Richard Pryor's haste and inebriation, he failed to allow the ether
to evaporate away by itself and instead accidentally lit the ether
and himself.7

Crack, unlike Richard Pryor's method of free basing cocaine, uses
baking soda (also a base) to accomplish the same chemical end result.
We've all heard that crack is inexpensive, but why? This is because
baking soda is much easier to obtain than ammonia and ether. It's
dangerous because it can be mass produced and consumed without the
danger of self-pyrolization. But cigarettes with ammonia have one
important "advantage," and therefore danger of addiction, over crack.
With crack, the user is at the disadvantage of lighting a pipe upon
every inhalation. With freed-based nicotine, the smoker conveniently
has freely burning tobacco without need for a pipe. Natural tobacco,
including pipe and cigar tobacco, does not stay lit. To accomplish
the continuously burning cigarette, the cigarette companies have
perfected the burn rates of cigarette paper and even "puff" the
tobacco with chemically inert substances such as Freon 11.

The civil liability significance of ammonia cannot be overstated. It
is ammonia and thus "free basing" that turns heads at the Department
of Justice. It may even have been the decisive point in the industry
handing over to Mississippi $170 million in the first of perpetual
installments.8 It will be interesting to see the eight Liggett group
documents that a Florida trial judge ruled must be disclosed under
the fraud/crime exception to the attorney-client privilege and
without which the state of Florida refuses to settle on otherwise the
same terms as Mississippi. The Florida Court of Appeals recently
upheld that order to disclose those documents, and thus Florida
joined Minnesota and Mississippi in ruling that the lawyers and their
tobacco clients were prima facie guilty of fraud and criminal
activity.

When ABC News settled the libel suit brought against it for reporting
that the tobacco companies add nicotine, it should have consulted the
cigarette plaintiffs' attorneys before paying millions. The tobacco
companies don't need to add nicotine. The taste of nicotine is awful.
It burns the throat. When nicotine is handled by the barrel, full
toxic waste dress, including respirators, must be worn. Nicotine is
used in some countries as a pesticide. It can make one nauseous.
Thus, the cigarette companies have no fear of lowering nicotine, as
long there's ammonia.

To what extent does ammonia boost nicotine in the bloodstream?
Remember that the FTC method of measuring nicotine only does so in
the tobacco, not in the bloodstream where the level is important. Dr.
Pankow's research is found in a study in the August issue of
Environmental Science and Technology, a publication of the American
Chemical Society, and can show that the amount of nicotine available
to a smoker could be increased by 100 times.9

The free basing process is also significant, I believe, to understand
how Phillip Morris overtook R.J. Reynolds. Marlboro went from an
obscure brand 40 years ago to today's single most "valuable" consumer
product appraised at over $40 billion. Marlboro has particularly
high "brand loyalty." R.J. Reynolds, which used to have over 50
percent of the market, now has about 20 percent. A now publicized
document written in the early 1970s by RJR researchers suggested that
the popularity of Marlboro was attributed to Phillip Morris'
manipulation of nicotine.10

Another part of the Phillip Morris history is Ron Tamol, a
biochemical researcher hired by Phillip Morris in 1950s or 1960s. Mr.
Tamol's handwritten notes used to prepare for a presentation to the
head of Phillip Morris state "Determine minimum nicotine drip to hook
smoker." (If you saw the NBC News coverage in the spring of 1996 of
these personal notes, then you saw my thumb as I held those notes for
the camera.) Mr. Tamol's presence with Phillip Morris coincides with
the beginning of the steady rise of Marlboro's market share.

Between the economic dependence that we as a state have on tobacco
farming, the high rate of smoking, and the marriage of tobacco
lobbying to backroom political muscle at the highest levels of our
state government, Tennessee's political elite is in state-wide denial
of the damage of tobacco. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention estimated that in 1990 the direct cost to Tennessee caused
by smoking was $782 million per year. This number accounts not only
for Tenncare costs to treat smoking diseases but also lost wages and
lost tax revenues.

The average smoker dies 22 years earlier than the average nonsmoker.
Tennessee ranks third in the nation for smoking related cancer deaths
at a rate of 442.1 per 100,000 deaths. Tennessee, without
coincidence, also ranks third in the nation for smoking prevalence.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer in Tennessee and causes
3,800 Tennesseans to die each year.

It has been widely reported in the national press that Tennessee is
not one of the states that sued the tobacco companies. Even though
our immensely qualified and Harvard-educated attorney general has not
brought suit, this does not preclude a suit on behalf of Tennessee
taxpayers. Considering his appointment by the elite of a tobacco
state, his position is akin to a conflict of interest. Likewise,
would not one of our clients allege malpractice against us if we
failed to file suit to ensure that the client recovered hundreds of
millions of dollars in compensation per year?

Under Tennessee law, the right of a taxpayer to recover, on behalf of
the state, public funds utilized under circumstances in which these
funds are due to be returned to the state is well established.
Plaintiffs can maintain standing in this action, after (1) having
made an attempt to have the action brought by the appropriate
government official, and (2) showing that the acts of public
officials affected a special interest or caused the plaintiffs a loss
not a common injury to the public generally. It is necessary that the
public official has unreasonably or improperly refused to bring the
suit.11 Tennessee's Medicare suit is not the only such case to be
brought by taxpayers. Alabama, Ohio, and recently North Carolina
taxpayers brought suit. San Francisco was the first city to sue. Even
trade unions have brought suit. Thus on May 8, 1997, or six weeks
before the settlement, J.D. Lee and I filed such a taxpayer
or "medicare" action on behalf of Tennessee taxpayers.

But such class actions brought by third parties with their "top-down"
or statistical view of the damages of smoking are much different from
the individual smoker looking up at the tobacco giant and
crying "it's your fault." The giant has crushed over 300 meager
individuals with the classic "personal responsibility" argument.

The first individual case was Cooper v. RJ Reynolds in 1954. Mr.
Cooper died of lung cancer. His wife alleged the RJ Reynolds
representations lead to Mr. Cooper's continued smoking. Those
representations contained in mass advertisements in the 1940s and
1950s were 1) "20,000 Doctors say that `Camel' Cigarettes are
Healthful" and 2) "'Camel' Cigarettes are Harmless to the Respiratory
System."12

The industry's win record on individual cases continued until it
faced an easy going, asbestosis defense lawyer turned tobacco
plaintiff lawyer by the name of Woody Wilner. His recent experience
in Florida offers hope for the Tennessee trial lawyer. In the fall of
1996 he won $750,000 for Mr. Grady Carter who had lung cancer caused
by cigarettes. The trial lasted a brief two weeks which suggests that
simplicity and modesty wins. No punitive damages were claimed.
Because he had made a offer of judgment for $50,000 (Florida's rule
is similar to Tennessee's new Rule 68 that allows a plaintiff to make
such an offer), the trial court has granted Mr. Wilner another $1.7
million for fees and expenses.

Ammonia is important for another reason. The Restatement of Torts
where it discusses tobacco makes the distinction between good tobacco
and bad tobacco. I wonder how Prosser would view cigarettes that have
freon and ammonia and that are marketed to children. Ninety percent
of current smokers began before they were 18, or old enough to be
able to appreciate the danger.

Do the cigarette companies have a common law duty to reduce that
danger and make their products as safe as they can? There is a former
researcher who pinpointed what in cigarette smoke caused heart
disease and developed a means to neutralize that constituent. His
research was silenced because making a "safer" cigarette meant
admitting that cigarettes were dangerous.

The tobacco companies were the original financial backers of
the "tort-deform" movement and are the mothers of all tortfeasors.
They were the first to finance lawyer bashing. They have always had
the most to lose in a courtroom, the most to hide from a jury, and
the most money to spend on "public education." They have been the
principal enemy of the jury system.

In a Wall Street Journal article published before the settlement, the
trial lawyers were praised. This article said that whatever bad the
public may say about the trial lawyers, all must agree that only the
trial lawyers were able to bring the tobacco companies to the
negotiating table; not the politicians, the health groups, nor the
federal government. Whatever your view of the settlement, all must
admit that the tobacco culture will never be the same.

Abstract:

A process for lowering toxic substance including nicotine in tobacco
is disclosed. The process of the present invention comprises treating
tobacco leaves with water, alcoholic drink, or a mixture thereof. It
is also possible to lower the nicotine contents of tobacco by using
licorice vinegar. Loess water, licorice, black beans, other vinegar
than licorice vinegar, or salt can be added or as a mixture thereof
in order to maintain the unique flavor and taste of tobacco.

Claims:

1. A process for lowering nicotine content in tobacco comprising the
steps of: mixing Korean coarse liquor, licorice vinegar and water;
dipping tobacco leaves in the mixture; and fermenting the tobacco
leaves in a temperature range of 18° C.˜30° C. for 24˜72 hours.

2. The process according to claim 1, wherein the mixture contains
water, Korean coarse liquor and licorice vinegar in the volume ratio
of 100:5˜15:0.1˜5.

3. The process according to any one of claim 1 or 2 wherein Korean
coarse liquor and licorice vinegar are mixed and ripened first and
then mixed with water.

4. The process according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the mixture
contains further loess, licorice, black beans, vinegar or salt.

TECHNICAL FIELD

This invention relates to a tobacco smoke filtering material for
selectively removing deleterious materials from tobacco smoke without
at the same time removing desirable smoke vapors which contribute to
aroma and taste. More particularly, this invention concerns a novel
cigarette filter tow and filters made therefrom, as well as the
method for their manufacture, which will selectively remove nicotine
from cigarette smoke.

Throughout the history of cigarette filtration, there has been a
desire to selectively remove nicotine from tobacco smoke due to its
toxicity. As of the present time, the use of a tobacco smoke filter
element placed on the tip of the smoking device is the method or
device most commonly used for removing these undesirable components
from tobacco smoke. These filters, which normally consist of a bundle
of cellulose acetate, convoluted crepe paper, cotton, or combinations
of these products formed into a cylindrical plug, are designed to and
do remove varying proportions of the liquid-solid particles passing
through them, thereby greatly reducing the amount of undesirable
materials reaching the smoker's mouth.

Most prior known fibrous filters show no selectivity for the removal
of nicotine from the smoke of a cigarette, particularly when the
tobacco involved is the conventional type used on domestic cigarettes.

For example, if one of these filters removes 25% of the tar, it also
removes about 25% of the nicotine; if it removes 40% of the tar, it
also removes about 40% of the nicotine. Therefore, it can be said
that these show no selectivity for removing nicotine over tar.

It has been suggested that one way to make a fibrous filter of
cellulose acetate, paper or cotton remove a higher percentage of
nicotine than tar from cigarette smoke is to coat the fibers in the
filter with acids and particularly with nontoxic, nonvolatile organic
acids such as tannic acid, citric acid, glutaric acid and the like.
However, such a technique leaves something to be desired from the
standpoint of the taste of the filter. Also, in the case of filters
of cellulose acetate fibers, the addition of an acid can cause
hydrolytic degradation of the fibers on prolonged contact. As a
result, acetic acid can be released from the filter giving it an
objectionable odor and taste.

U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,417,759 and 3,424,173 describe cigarette filter
elements consisting of fibrous filters containing liquid additives
(1,4 butanediol and 1,2,4 butanetriol respectively) that selectively
remove nicotine from cigarette smoke.

According the the present invention a convenient and effective method
has been found by which a tobacco smoke filter can be constructed for
the selective removal of nicotine from tobacco smoke. This method
consists of coating or otherwise dispersing a particular coating
compound on the filtering material from which the tobacco smoke
filter element is formed.

Therefore, this invention provides tobacco smoke filters which remove
a higher percentage of nicotine than tar from tobacco smoke. Also,
this invention provides additives for a tobacco smoke filter which
impart to the filter an improved capacity for removing nicotine from
tobacco smoke.

The diacetyl tartaric acid esters of monoglycerides may be prepared in
conventional manner by reacting diacetyl tartaric acid anhydride with
monoglycerides. Diacetyl tartaric acid anhydride may be prepared in
conventional manner by reacting acetic anhydride with tartaric acid.
Such reactions and techniques are well known in the art. See, for
example, U.S. Pat. No. 2,938,027.

Commercially available coating compounds described structurally above
include Myverol 18-30 emulsifier (monoglyceride) and Myvatem 30
dispersing aid (diacetyl tartaric acid anhydride ester of
monoglyceride), both marketed by Eastman Chemical Products,
Incorporated. Myverol 18-30 emulsifier is a monoglyceride prepared by
glycerolysis of tallow. Myvatem 30 dispersing aid is the diacetyl
tartaric acid ester of monoglycerides which have been prepared by
glycerolysis of tallow. Both have iodine values of about 30.

The coating compound may be applied to the filter material by
conventional means. It may be applied as a solution, emulsion, melt,
etc. Application from a solution is preferred. The coating compound
may be applied by brush, roller, spraying, or any means known in the
art.

The amount of additive needed to selectively remove the nicotine from
the effluent stream of tobacco smoke has been found to be between 1
and 10% by weight of the filter material. Amounts greater than 10%
tend to make the filter plug wrap "greasy" and interfere with the
adhesives used to bond paper wrap on the filter.

CIGARETTES put the average Australian smoker about $300,000 out of
pocket in their lifetime, new figures show.

A South Australian infectious disease physician, Dr Ross Philpot, has
run new statistics on the physical and financial cost of smoking.

By 65, the average 20-a-day smoker will have puffed on 400,000
cigarettes, and by the time they die 500,000 will have been smoked.

This costs each smoker about $300,000, a "sobering" figure that all
doctors should remind their patients of to help them quit, he said.

"In my three decades of experience, I have noted that an accumulated
intake of a quarter of a million cigarettes usually results in at
least some cough, breathlessness and wheeze and decreased exercise
tolerance," he wrote in the latest Medical Journal of Australia.

"Half a million cigarettes generally causes chronic smoker's
bronchitis, with or without some degree of emphysema…while three-
quarters of a million cigarettes makes cancer a distinct possibility."

WASHINGTON (AP) _ HCA-The Healthcare Company, the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain, agreed Thursday to plead guilty to defrauding government health care programs and will pay more than $840 million in criminal fines, civil penalties and damages.

The FBI in Tennessee has scheduled a news conference regarding the criminal investigation for Friday in Nashville. An FBI agent reached by phone wouldn't specify the reason.

The agreement, reached after a seven-year federal investigation triggered by private whistleblowers, is the largest government fraud settlement ever negotiated by the Justice Department.

The company agreed to cooperate with a continuing investigation that Attorney General Janet Reno said could still produce criminal charges. Deputy Assistant FBI Director Thomas Kubic called the case ``one of the FBI's highest priority white-collar crime investigations.''

The agreement did not settle civil allegations that HCA inflated charges to the government and paid kickbacks to doctors so they would refer Medicare and Medicaid patients to its facilities.

The two HCA units that pleaded guilty _ Columbia Homecare Group Inc. and Columbia Management Companies Inc. _ agreed to pay more than $95 million in criminal fines and were barred from further participation in federal health care programs.

Separately, HCA agreed to pay $745 million in civil penalties for its alleged false billing practices _ a figure negotiated last spring but not finalized until the criminal settlement was announced Thursday.

``Health care fraud impacts every American citizen,'' Reno told a news conference. ``If you overbill the U.S. taxpayer, then we are going to make you pay it back and then some.''

She said it was the largest health care fraud investigation in history. It involved 30 U.S. attorneys' offices, 22 FBI field offices, inspectors general from the Health and Human Service Department and the Office of Personnel Management, Defense Department investigators and state fraud units.

HCA co-founder and chief executive Thomas Frist Jr., the brother of U.S. Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said from the company's Nashville headquarters: ``Today's action represents one of the last steps needed to put the Columbia investigation behind us and allows us to move forward, maintaining our focus on providing quality patient care.''

Frist ousted Richard L. Scott as chief executive in July 1997 and began a restructuring of the company. HCA got out of the home health care business and sold or consolidated more than 100 hospitals. The chain currently has about 200 hospitals.

Reno said the civil settlement covers allegations the company overbilled government health care programs for services it performed, charged for services it did not perform and for costs that were not eligible for reimbursement.

In the criminal case, the two units agreed to plead guilty to filing false cost reports; fraudulently billing Medicare for home health care workers and management and wound care center workers; fraudulently billing Medicare and other health programs by inflating the seriousness of pneumonia diagnoses; paying kickbacks in the sale of home health agencies; and kickbacks to doctors to refer patients.

The guilty pleas will be filed in Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, Fla., and El Paso, Texas.

Assistant Attorney General David Ogden said that $731.3 million of the civil settlement would to go the federal government, but some portion of that, up to a maximum of 25 percent, would be allocated through negotiations to private whistleblowers _ 29 have been identified publicly. ``Whistleblowers brought valuable information to the attention of the U.S. government,'' Ogden said.

An additional $13.6 million of the civil settlement will be distributed to state governments for their share of losses under the state share of the Medicaid program.

The company, formerly known as Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., was alleged by whistleblowers and others in the health industry to have defrauded Medicare, which covers the elderly; Medicaid, which covers the poor; Tricare, which covers the military and their families; and the Federal Employees' Health Benefits program, which covers civilian federal workers.

Stephen Meagher, a San Francisco attorney who represents several HCA whistleblowers, described the settlement as ``pretty mind-blowing.''

John Schilling, one of the whistleblowers, was a key witness and provided documents in a 1999 criminal trial that resulted in prison sentences for two mid-level HCA executives in Florida. They are appealing. Another executive was acquitted and a fourth pleaded guilty after a hung jury to avoid a second trial.

There have been no criminal convictions of any top HCA executives.

Shares of HCA were down 22 cents to close at $38.54 on the New York Stock Exchange.

I don't know what you're talking about. USAF Basic Training was cool, sitting in the air-conditioned dorm all day because it was too hot to march in the Texas sun. Seems the Air Force didn't like their employees dropping dead from heat stroke. Even got to go swimming in the final week. :) But yeah, it was a mindfrak, and I just needed a job, really really bad.

Unfortunately I already got my basic training hazing at Tennessee Military Institute for 9 months, carrying an M14 in 7th grade. Then TMI went BK and is now a Jap-only school. USAF Tech School also had hazing, with mandatory torture formations at attentions of hours in snowstorms. Attempted brainwashing.

Real World USAF was great, slaughtering innocent civilians while they slept in their beds (Operation El Dorado Canyon where US special forces rescued president Gadaffi before US jets bombed Libya), loading nukes targeted at Western Europe, wargames to nuke active USAF bases in controlled demolitions. No radiation testing allowed. Breathing JP8, no gas masks allowed. "Depleted" uranium that's radioactive for 35-billion years. USAF troops I worked with got disabled or dropped dead from Gulf War Syndrome. Funny how the recruiters left that out of the brochure (I didn't get a movie). Then there was Iran-Contra, with the Sr Bush White House and Pentagon arming Saddam Hussein with stolen NATO stockpiles to kill US troops, and preferring criminal charges against all my wife's commanding officers, including the USAF chief of staff 4-star General Mike Dugan, who was then fired while leading Desert Storm. SecDef Dick Cheney then offered my wife a Pentagon job, but she retired, and VA stole her pension, as perped against 95% of all disabled retired veterans. We can never have kids because of the "medical school experiments" USAF did to her at Fort Levenworth prison hospital. BERWYN HEIGHTS, Md. — A SWAT team raided the home of a Washington,
D.C.-area mayor, killing his two black Labrador retrievers and
seizing an unopened package of marijuana delivered there.

Prince George's County Police said Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo
brought a 32-pound package of marijuana into his home that had been
delivered by officers posing as delivery men. The Tuesday evening
raid was conducted by county police narcotics officers and a
sheriff's office SWAT Team.

The package was addressed to Calvo's wife, Trinity Tomsic. His mother-
in-law had asked the supposed delivery men to leave the package
outside. Calvo has not been charged, though police said he, his wife
and his mother-in-law are "persons of interest" in an ongoing
investigation.

"We never opened the box. We have nothing to do with this box," Calvo
said.

Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Mario Ellis says deputies "apparently
felt threatened" when they shot the dogs.

Calvo said officers entered about 7:30 p.m., first shooting 7-year-
old Payton. They then pursued 4-year-old Chase, who ran away and was
shot by police from behind, he said.

Calvo said he doesn't have any idea how the package ended up at his
house. He called the raid "the most traumatic experience" of his life.

Calvo, who called his town "Mayberry inside the Capital Beltway,"
gets a small stipend as mayor and works at the SEED Foundation, a
nonprofit that runs public boarding schools for at-risk students. His
wife works as a state finance officer.

"These were two beautiful black Labradors who were well-known in the
community. We walked them twice a day; little kids knew their names
and would come up to them and pet them," he said.

Video: how the hoax was discovered 

An American police officer who claimed to have found Bigfoot has been fired from the force after it emerged that the hairy heap in his freezer was not the half-man, half-ape of myth, but a full-length rubber gorilla costume.

In an elaborate hoax Matthew Whitton, a police officer in Clayton County, Georgia, and his partner, Rick Dyer, announced in a radio interview and YouTube video that they had found the creature's corpse in the remote forests of Georgia state.

They sold the rights to the corpse to Rick Biscardi, a Californian Bigfoot hunter, for a reported $50,000, and Mr Biscardi then presented the pair to the world at a press conference in Palo Alto last Friday, although he was forced to defend the lack of physical evidence on show.

However, after Mr Biscardi asked Steve Kulls, a self-styled "Sasquatch detective", to examine the men's find, doubts about the find's authenticity began to emerge.

On Sunday, having had his suspicions already aroused by the creature's unnatural hair, Mr Kulls started melting down the large block of ice enclosing the specimen, according to a detailed statement posted on Mr Biscardi's website.

"Within one hour we were able to see the partially exposed head," Mr Kulls wrote.

"As I was now able to touch it, I was able to feel that it seemed mostly firm, but unusually hollow in one small section. This was yet another ominous sign.

"Within the next hour of thaw, a break appeared up near the feet area. As the team and I began examining this area near the feet, I observed the foot which looked unnatural, reached in and confirmed it was a rubber foot."

After admitting their deception in a telephone conversation with Mr Biscardi and promising to pay his money back, the two hoaxers swiftly checked out of their California hotel before the Bigfoot hunter could get there, making themselves as scarce as their mythical prey.

The hoaxers' own BigfootTracker website does not explain the motives behind it - except to offer visitors $499 Bigfoot hunting expeditions. Callers to a voicemail "tipline" advertised on the site are advised that the pair are also now searching for leprechauns, dinosaurs, the Loch Ness Monster and, of course, Elvis.

The joke fell flat with Jeffrey Turner, who as Chief of Police in Clayton County, Georgia, put Mr Whitton on medical leave when he was shot in the wrist as he tried to foil a robbery earlier this summer.

"As soon as we saw it was a hoax, I filed the paperwork to terminate his employment," said Chief Turner.

"He's disgraced himself, he's an embarrassment to the Clayton County Police Department, his credibility and integrity as an officer is gone, and I have no use for him," he declared.

"This turn of events from hero to someone who defrauds a nation is just baffling. I don't know how he got from one point to the other... For someone to do a complete three-sixty like that, I can't explain it."

The police chief said that he wanted to send Mr Whitton his termination paperwork and get back his uniforms - but had not yet managed to track him down.

All judges are lawyers and held to a higher standard of practice than a regular lawyer. It is this Judicial standard that demands injunctive relief prayed for here. This relief is predicated upon one of the most basic premises of practicing law which states no lawyer can allow themselves to be used in furthering a criminal enterprise. And by that gauge alone, failing to give injunctive relief to the 18 million supporters of the other candidate, a true natural born citizen eligible to serve if elected, this court must not allow itself to be used to further the criminal and fraudulent acts to continue and be rewarded by becoming the Democratic Nominee. Failure to give the injunctive relief prayed for will insure that a corrupted Presidential election process will only guarantee a show of unfair preference of one group of people over another group by not demanding the same rules be applied to all groups equally and fairly, especially in light of the fact that both candidates are each considered a minority.

`Bitch'–It's an ugly word, for sure, and not one I am accustomed to using as cavalierly as some might imagine here. I always winced when I heard it growing up as a kid, mostly because I always held women in such high respect and because I was sure that in 9 out of 10 cases where the word was used it was most likely unjustified. After all, they–women–are the bringers of life and who civilize us (hopefully) through their influence in the home. Can you imagine what a mess the world would be in if it was the guys raising the children instead of the gals? The kids would speak in mono-syllabic grunts rather than full sentences and would settle all issues with their fists instead of their mouths and brains.

So my use of the word `bitch' comes with a LOT of hesitation, believe me. Mz. Palin is the mother of 5 children, and for that she deserves mucho respecto as far as I'm concerned. She–like a good number of women in the `Christian' west these days–could have kneeled at the communion rail of Roe V Wade on many occasions, including when she learned her most recent child would be born with Down's Syndrome. Instead, she elected to have the chalice pass from her lips, much to the rage of feminists who pay to have their children killed for matters of simple convenience in what has become something of a sacramental rite in America these days, God help us. Despite what I consider to be her seriously-misguided religious ideas concerning Israel and the Jews, I'm sure had she been around in a better time period in this nation's history–meaning a time when the Jewish state and her spies DID NOT dominate our political system–she would have been a great stateswoman.

Not only towing the line with regards to the fatal myth that the Jews are `God's chosen' and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, namely stealing the real estate between the two `great rivers' of the Nile and the Euphrates as well as the right to murder anyone they see fit at anytime they so decide, she has also embraced the other fatal myths of our modern times as well–that Iraq was responsible for 9/11 and that Iran must be stopped at all costs from `wiping Israel off the map'. She calls herself `pro-life' but in perfect Zionist double-speak has signaled she will use her office to rain down death on millions, possible even billions of innocent people and all of it for the `Jewish cause'. She calls herself a Christian and yet has promised Israel that the Jewish state will continue receiving her daily diet of 15 million dollars from good ole Uncle Sam so she can continue de-Christianizing the land made sacred by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and in general making life for the Palestinians there a living hell.

And if these weren't bad enough, Mz. Palin has now gone on record saying that war with Russia is a real likelihood, and not `war' as in the `cold' one but rather the real deal, just as the Neocons have wanted since Trotsky and his gang were ousted from power in the early 20th century.

And so, at least in the political sense, Palin IS a whore, or, using the less-polite language of gangstaz and gangsta-wannabes, `a bitch'. By her own admission, she will do anything, no matter how dirty, degrading or immoral it is so that Israel and her supporters `get off' the only way they can, which is through bloodshed, the suffering of innocent people and corruption of otherwise healthy political systems. And in the event some don't like my choice of racy words here, remember this–I am only following the example set forth by the man destined to replace the aging, swelling John Hagee as Supreme Pontiff of the Christian Zionist movement, none other than pastor Rod Parsley himself, John McCains's `spiritual mentor' who used the very same racy verbiage when he, speaking about America's proclivity towards killing Muslims exclaimed like a seasoned snake-handler speaking in tongues `We're bred for battle!…We get off on war!!!

Putting this in better perspective, consider the fact that Palin `the patriot' (as she is now being fashioned by the Jewish mass media in America) is throwing her support behind a Marxist-founded state that has–

1. Blown up American buildings in Egypt in what was known as the Lavon Affair…

2. Attacked a United States ship, the USS Liberty, resulting in the deaths of 34 American sailors with the intention of sinking her so Egypt could be blamed and WWIII started between the US and the USSR…

3. Played an active part in the bombing of the US marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983, resulting in the deaths of almost 250 servicemen…

4. Plotted to assassinate George HW Bush at the Madrid peace conference in 1991 in order to–surprise, surprise–'blame the Arabs'…

5. Stole America's most sensitive national security secrets from her spy Jonathon Pollard and then sold them to America's enemies at that time, the USSR. If indeed America finds herself at war with Russia as Israel would like to see take place, no doubt these secrets will be used to better kill America's young men and women, assuming of course that it remains a war solely outside the confines of the US, which is highly doubtful…

6. Played an indispensable role in the attacks of 9/11, so much so that hundreds–let me repeat for emphasis–HUNDREDS of Israeli spies were arrested, some in circumstances as incriminating as filming the Twin Towers coming down and cheering and who later admitted on Israeli TV that they were `sent to document the event'…

…and this is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. One day, after this mess is all over and assuming the US has not been reduced to ashes following a nuclear war, there will be an entire wing of the Library of Congress devoted to the problems this nation has endured as a result of Israel and her influence over our affairs.

And this folks is the ugly truth concerning Palin. As I said, were these better times, I would be getting all hot and bothered about her candidacy too, but the fact is that she is there for one reason and one reason only, which is to get an otherwise unelectable John McCain elected president so that the Jews can have the other wars they have scheduled, meaning Iran, Syria and Russia. You can bet your last dollar that were she not `right with God', meaning were she the least bit contrary to Israel and the demands of the Jewish state, be it the war in the Middle East or whatever, she would remain in that obscure, out of the way place and no one would know Jack Squat about her.

The other thing of course to consider, but unmentioned up to this point, is the fact that I am not the only one saying this about her, that she is `Israel's Bitch', and this is where it gets REALLY ugly. The fact is, this is what the Jewish state and her supporters think of her, their public comments notwithstanding. Yes, guys such as Brooks and Lieberman and all the others may at present be swooning and fawning all over her as if she were Esther reborn, but to them she is just a piece of gentile meat created by God to serve the Jews, what they refer to in their own parlance as a `Shiksa'.

Yes, that's right, all you conservative, bible-believing Christians out there who think that the Jews have finally `come around' and seen the light with regards to the things near and dear to our conservative hearts pertaining to protecting the unborn, the Constitution and `family values' as we define them, the fact is this–She is just another Britney, Madonna, or any other Barbie doll-creation of the Jewish mass media. She–like they–has been shoved out on the stage where–politically-speaking–she bats her eyes, moans and groans, suggestively rubs her hands over her body, wiggles and jiggles and bumps and grinds in front of us and all in the interest of keeping us excited, excitable, and distracted from what the hell is really going on in the world.

And make no mistake about it. All the praise they are heaping on her right now will be short-lived. Keep in mind how the Jews welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem as a king, shouting `Hosanna to God in the Highest' and laying palm leaves in His path and then a week later these same creatures were calling for him to be crucified and the murderer Barabbas released.

No, once Palin has been used for their purposes, meaning once they have gotten from her what they want (meaning getting warmonger John McCain elected to the presidency) the `honeymoon' will be over and she will be told to `get the f*** out of here bitch' just as they would to any ordinary whore whose services were no longer required.

And the real truth is, Mz. Palin has a lot more to worry about than simply being `removed' from the political scene by any scandals that may develop around her. Washington DC–a veritable outpost (in both the literal and figurative sense) of Meyer Lansky's Murder Inc–has become a gangland where individuals live and die based upon whether they are worth more dead than alive to the powers-that-be. It may very well turn out that what is REALLY planned here is the classic one-two knockout punch, meaning Palin gets McCain elected, and then, batta-bing/batta bang/BATTA-BOOM–she is assassinated by some `Islamic terrorist' and McCain makes Lieberman his VP (which was the original plan anyway) and then when Little Johnnie has some `accident' befall him, Lieberman becomes prez, America falls into Israel's hands like a ripened fruit and thus all impediments removed from the Jewish state getting what she really wants. Remember–we are talking about people here who believe they are the embodiment of God and who have–not just the capability of doing the worst, but rather the proclivity. After all, lest we forget, it is the Talmud itself, the engine that drives these people and their agenda that states "Tob shebe goyyim harog', meaning "Even the best among the Gentiles deserves to be killed.'

And so, my fellow Americans, fellow humans, lovers of peace and justice, if you think my opinion and the language used in expressing this opinion too harsh concerning that `good Christian woman' Mz. Palin who is most likely destined to be our next vice president (at least until her motorcade is blown up by Al Qaeda) what I say in my defense is thus–I am tired of the non-stop political pornography we see these days…, sick of seeing bitch after bitch after bitch paraded out before us who degrade themselves and degrade what is supposed to be their sacred duties to our nation by whoring themselves out for the benefit of the Madame of the house, Israel. I am sick to the point of vomiting over the manner our elected officials–who swore an oath to be faithful to America, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in heath, for better or for worse till death do us part as they take turns getting down on their knees and or on all fours and then perform whatever disgusting services are demanded of them by the Jewish state, an insatiable nymphomaniac for political power that never seems to get her fill. I am sick of America suffering from all the ills-political, social, cultural or whatnot, resulting from the legion of venereal diseases we have contracted through our illicit, immoral intercourse with the Jewish state. We have become a sterile, barren woman whose womb is so polluted through immoral behavior that it can no longer produce any life for our nation, meaning peace, prosperity and political stability. I long for the by-gone days of fidelity and continence of American political life, where America was first, second and third in the hearts and minds of our leaders instead of them putting the interests of a terrorist state ahead of our own. I lament the day that men like George Washington, John Adams and others–men who would never have consented to sell their country for 30 pieces of silver to ANY interest nor allow the governing infrastructure of America to be infested with spies and saboteurs as it exists today–were replaced with the likes of George Bush, John McCain and the rest.

It is something we are going to have to decide folks–we are either going to have America as a beacon of light where Lady Liberty runs the show or a brothel dominated by whores for Israel, and as one wise man once said, `You cannot serve two masters, for you will either love the one and hate the other or hate the one or love the other.'

For myself, this latest creation in the person of Mz. Palin leaves much to be desired, no matter how low she is willing to go in debasing herself in what has become the Zionist Burlesque Revue. Give me someone not as easy on the eyes but whose love for America does not take 2nd place to the interests of a foreign power and who understands that when she takes that oath of office, what she is really saying to America is `for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in heath, for better or for worse till death do us part.'

I write a monthly column in North Carolina entitled "Course of the Month",  which acts as a Golden Fleece Award for ridiculous courses taught in this state's colleges and universities. Sometimes I decide a course is too deserving of attention to keep it within the confines of North Carolina. The course I am about to describe is not only worthy of such an honor, but, in my view, it ascends to the top of all the crackpot courses I've written about since 1996.

If you think the Bush administration planned the 9/11 attacks to give it an excuse to wage war for global domination, that a Jewish cabal controls world events, that President Eisenhower was abducted by aliens, and that he, Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes go off to a remote California location to practice owl worship, then you'll disagree with my assessment. The rest of you, I'm confident, will say move over, "Canine Cultural Studies," -- and make way for North Carolina Wesleyan College's Political Science 495: "911 The Road to Tyranny," taught by Prof. Jane Christensen.

Here is Christensen's description of her course:

"The events of September 11, 2001, indisputably changed the course of American politics and history. This course is offered so students may examine various events and policies leading to 911. In particular, this course will focus largely on the specific destruction in lower Manhattan and the Pentagon. We will examine the official story and analyze it critically. We will consider alternative explanations of what occurrred (sic) as well. 911 was a catalyst for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the attack on civil liberties in the United States. We will examine each of these with a critical eye. The goal of this course is to arrive at a solid understanding of how 911 has shaped our political future and to promote critical analysis by students of this catastrophic event and its aftermath."

Christensen continues:

"This course is outside the scope of traditional 'political science' in many ways. First it is 'unscientific' in that it relies much on eyewitness accounts and speculation. Secondly, there is not yet a solid literature on the September 11 'attacks' or on the war on terrorism. This literature is emerging, particularly on the latter. Thirdly, this course will rely somewhat extensively on alternative news media accounts and a variety of films and videos in lieu of literature."

That second paragraph reminds me of the "Brad Goodman" character on an old episode of "The Simpsons." He was a feel-good self-help guru and charlatan who proudly told his audiences, "I don't have any credentials -- or training -- but I have a Ph.D. in pain." By the same token, this course doesn't have political science -- or a scientific approach -- but it has a Ph.D. in kooky conspiracy-mongering.

For her "911 The Road to Tyranny" class, Christensen lists the following websites as "recommended reading" that "should be visited every day": rense.com, www.libertythink.com, www.counterpunch.org, www.prisonplanet.com, www.wsws.org/index.shtml, www.globalresearch.ca, and www.copvcia.com. The day of this writing, for example, Christensen's students would have "learned" the following:

â—� From rense.com: Israel is engaged in the "white slave trade"; Pres. Eisenhower signed "a formal treaty between the Alien Nation and the United States of America" and that "that aliens exist and control much of what happens on planet Earth," a truth, incidentally, that's encoded within the Bible; the planes that hit the World Trade Center were remote-controlled; the U.S. Air Force's plan to "own the weather" by 2025; plus lots of neat stuff about alien abductions, UFOs, "aerosol crimes," etc.; and (I'm not making this up) the U.S.'s chemical warfare against its children, flooding them with a dangerous chemical agent and the children are "forced to ingest it, inhale it, bathe and shower in it, whether or not they want or even need this toxic chemical in their bodies" -- fluoride.

â—� From copvcia.com: "Evidence of Bush Administration Foreknowledge and complicity [in the 9/11 attacks] is now overwhelming"; "the innermost core of the 9/11 attacks" was "a desperate new America" preparing for "Peak Oil: an economic crisis like nothing the world has ever seen," thus the attacks required "an amazing orchestration of logistics and personnel" and involved "the highest echelons of American government" who "acted in concert to guarantee that the attacks occurred and produced the desired result"; the "state of the world" is that it's "on the brink of disaster"; a "decisive U.S. 'victory'" won't "win the war in Iraq"; and find out "Who's Who of the Elite: Members of the: Bilderburgers, Council on Foreign Relations, and Trilateral Commission."

If Prof. Christensen's students were diligent in their "daily readings," as of April 4, 2005, that is just a fraction of what they would have encountered. There is another website, however, that Christensen lists in a larger, bold-faced text and pronounces "one of the best on the web!: Alex Jones' Infowars.com." What "collegiate" material does this website feature?

Another peddles a DVD entitled "9:11: Rise of the Police State" with the text "Terror Was the Pretext / For the Control / Of Our Entire Lives / Learn the Terrifying Secret / That Holds In Its Grasp / The Future of the World / MARTIAL LAW." Another shows photos of George Bush and John Kerry accompanied by the text "Both Are Members of an Elite Secret Society / In a Dictatorship There Is No Choice / In a Dictatorship The Elections Are Staged / AMERICAN DICTATORS: Both Are Puppets of the New World Order." A T-shirt advertisement reads "Hitler / Stalin / Mao / Mass murderers agree / Gun control works / Get the T-shirt" ‹ the photo accompanying "Mass murderers agree" is a photo of Bush in front of a banner reading "NWO" with the "W" far larger than the "N" and "O."

And here are some of the headlines to be found on "one of the best" websites: "Screened Audiences, Fake News Promote Bush Agenda"; "Lies revealed: pretext for war fabricated, dead wrong"; "More Bio-Terrorism Fearmongering: Al-Qaeda 'making Agent X advances'"; "Special Video Report: America Is Now The Ultimate Prison State."

This stellar site also has several issue archives; among them are: "Prior Knowledge: Sept. 11"; "The Globalists' Illuminati Language"; "Freemasonry"; "Gulags in America"; "New World Order"; and "Fluoride."

Homosexual human sacrifice cult at Jewish Bohemian Grove

Another issue archive is "Bohemian Grove," which has corroborating DVD advertisements. One asks "WHAT IS BOHEMIAN GROVE?" to which it provides the answer: "Since 1873, the Global Elite Has Held Secret Meetings in the Ancient Redwood Forest of Northern California. Members of the so-called 'Bohemian Club' Include Former Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan. The Bush Family Maintains a Strong Involvement. Each Year at Bohemian Grove, Members of This All-Male 'Club' Don Red, Black and Silver Robes and Conduct an Occult Ritual Wherein They Worship a Giant Stone Owl, Sacrificing a Human Being in Effigy to What They Call the 'Great Owl of Bohemia.'" Alex Jones is also quoted; he says, "This is like something out of a Hollywood movie, where teenagers are out camping in the wilderness and come over a hill and witness some devil cult in black and red garb sacrificing some poor soul on a bloody altar."

It bears repeating at this point that the quoted matter above is from a website listed as "required reading" [including September 9/11 Surprise by Pirate News] and "one of the best sites on the web" in a college course at N.C. Wesleyan -- a course that takes its name from a title of film by the same Alex Jones, "911 The Road to Tyranny."

Christensen opens her course with readings from Marxist academic Michael Parenti's The Terrorism Trap: September 11 and Beyond, to answer the question "Why Study 9/11?" Perhaps the answer can be gleaned from a glowing review of the book on Amazon.com: "Parenti explains in plain language why the American government is so despised around the world. He shows that the U.S. kills civilians elsewhere on a regular basis (e.g. 30,000 in Nicaragua during the Reagan years, 2 million in Vietnam), but makes no apology for it. He shows that the U.S. government cares about oil, money, and corporate profits far more than about global problems such as AIDS, hunger, or deforestation." The review concludes, "As a college instructor, I will surely assign this to my students." 

Next Christensen tackles the question "Who are the terrorists?" An Alex Jones film "Masters of Terror" (infowars.com says it "details the execution of the September 11th attacks and the ensuing whitewash, the cashless society control-grid, implanted microchips, mind-control, militarization of police, concentration camps, foreign troops massing on US soil, the USA Patriot Act, and Homeland Security taking over the states"), a globalresearch.com article about a "Mysterious Breakfast Meeting on Capitol Hill," an article from a site called "freemasonrywatch.org" and a rense.com article about a "Treasonous Cabal" suffice to answer it.

Up next is "Official Lies and Conspiracy Theories," which includes, among other things, a reading of "Barbara Olson's Call From Flight 77 Never Happened." Then, "The Pentagon Optical Illusion" section views another film, "In Plane Sight," and the class is directed to read a presentation made in Abu Dhabi arguing that the Pentagon was not hit by a jet airliner, but was possibly hit by a cruise missile to "give credence to the fable of Islamic terrorists."

The following two class days are dedicated to watching another film, George Humphrey's "911 The Great Illusion," with an accompanying text of the same name. On prisonplanet.com Jones calls the film "one of the best 9/11 films I've ever seen. It covers the broad spectrum of facts exposing the globalists' orchestration of 9/11."

The final two days leading up to the mid-term involve viewing Jones' film (which "documents the ruthless history of governments orchestrating terrorist attacks against their own people to scare them into total submission"), reading "Select articles from Alex's 911 archive," viewing Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," and reading a socialist's open letter to Michael Moore carping that he ought to work "to build a socialist alternative to the capitalist two-party system."

After the mid-term students discuss a handout to discuss "H.R. 4079 and the Infrastructure of Control"; it is Chapter 6 of Behold A Pale Horse written by William Cooper, described glowingly in rense.com as the man "whose apocalyptic, constitutionalist shortwave radio programs were a major influence on Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh."

Then begins Part II of the course, "The 'War on Terrorism.'" First, students discuss "A Strategy for World Domination," with links to antiwar.com, The Nation, and rense.com, discussing plotting by "neoconservative" and Jewish think tankers. Over a week of that and students are ready to discuss "The War on Terrorism USA," relying on Jones' material to discuss how the Patriot Act has turned the United States into a "police state." That segues nicely into "Police State USA," relying on two counterpunch.org articles, two columns by Rep. Ron Paul – "It Can't Happen Here" on rense.com and "Police State USA" on antiwar.com, and something published in The Olympian under the given title "The CIA can kill Americans" but omitting the rest of the title, which was "in al-Qaida."

Christensen takes a brief jaunt to discuss "The War on Iraq," using a rense.com link entitled "The War on Iraq -- A War For Israel?" before she concludes the course on "More Police State USA (Where Do We Go From Here?)." This final section includes "More Alex Jones videos" and concludes with her asking the class, "What Have We Learned About 911? What Have We Learned About the War on America?"

Students who aren't satisfied with this offering of Christensen's can check out her other courses and links available on her home page. They wouldn't want to miss seeing her dressed as a masked terrorist, nor would they want to overlook her many links, such as to the Communist front group International A.N.S.W.E.R. and other Marxist groups, or to al-Jazeera, Pravda and other "alternative media," or to the International Solidarity Movement for Palestine and many other anti-Israel links and quotations, or to EarthFirst!, or to news about the Zapatistas, or to the Irish Republican Webring.

I was told this was done to someone else, but didn't have any reason to think it would happen to me.

Knoxville News "Sentinel" is a monopoly daily newspaper in Tennessee. News articles have Comments allowed, requiring signing in under a screen name. Now I know why.

This allows censorship of the First Amendment. Constitutions normally don't apply to corporations. But KNS got a $20-million TIF welfare grant from the city taxslaves, so that makes it a govt contractor.

The sneaky part is that when sheeple are banned from making comments, the person is never notified of that ban. The post appears on the forum forever, so far as he can see.

But that comment is censored from everyone else. Very very sneaky. He can literally post for years without knowing that nobody else can read his comments.

I finally checked my comments using www.Proxify.com, which uses anonymous IP address. Damn if they weren't all censored!

I'll be doing a TV show on this scam. Should be fun.

Imagine if forums start using this system of censorship.

KNS previously censored my brother's 8-page political ad that cost him the election. I'll read the entire advert nailing judge Swann for his 4 marriages, and for being a convicted deadbeat dad, picked by KNS editorial board to run divorce court to terrorize Knox County by jailing men and women, to extort all their family's wealth as ransom, including my brother the lawyer.
