It's April, and do you know what that means?  Fewer than 30 days remain before nominations close for the 2011 GateFic Awards!

Here's a breakdown of what we have so far:

Total nominations – 134

SG-1 – 111 - Gen - 31; Het - 70 (mostly Jack/Sam and Sam/Martouf); Slash - 10 (mostly Jack/Daniel)

SGA – 6 - Gen – 4; Het - 1; Slash – 1

SGU – 3 - Gen - 1; Het - 1; Slash – 1

GateVerse Crossovers – 4 - Gen - 2; Het - 1; Slash – 1

SGA and SGU fans are needed to "represent" their fandoms for this year's awards, and fans of teamfic and the "less-popular" pairings need to step up as well!

The GateFic Awards accepts nominations for fanfiction, fanart, and fanvids from within the Stargate fandom.

Nominations will close at midnight EDT (UTC -0400) on April 30th.

Everyone ready for the close of nominations?

Yeah... neither are we. April's been a hectic month for the GateFic staff, and between tornadoes, dancing competitions, final exams, and work, we need a little bit of time to organize ourselves before tackling this year's awards.

Here's the revised schedule:
May 28 - Nominations Close
June 2 - Nominees Contacted
June 20 - Voting Opens
July 30 - Voting Closes
August 3 - Winners Announced
August 10 - 2012 GateFic Awards Nominations Open

Compressing the schedule does mean that there are only two weeks (instead of four) for nominees to respond, only six weeks (instead of eight) for voting.

However, this also means that there are four more weeks for nominations!

For a better idea of what's been nominated so far, check out our announcement at http://bit.ly/gMCbUM

Then, head over to GateFic.com to nominate more of your favorites!

See you there!

Just a little over two weeks to go before the close of nominations, and while things are looking pretty good in some categories, others are still pretty thin.

For a breakdown of what's been nominated, check our recent announcements at LJ (http://gatefic.livejournal.com/), DW (http://gatefic.dreamwidth.org/), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/GateFic), Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/GateFic), or our site (http://www.gatefic.com)!

Finally, to save our staff a lot of time (and a few headaches), please be certain that any stories you nominate are correctly categorized.  Please review the FAQs (specifically, http://bit.ly/jAQva0 and http://bit.ly/mvEo6m) and rules (http://bit.ly/lVbhc6) to make sure you're getting it right.  We're not going to toss anything out simply for being misplaced, but it does make sorting nominations much easier!

Nominations will close at midnight EDT (UTC -0400) on May 28th.

Big Bangs, Friendathons, and Porn Battles, oh my!  This time of year is awesome for our fandom.  Save yourself a list of some of your favorites from this year's new works, so that you'll be ready to start nominating works for the 2012 GateFic Awards!  Nominations open October 1st.

And, on that note... don't forget to stop by GateFic.com to check out THIS year's nominees!  Voting remains open until September 17th, and while that may seem like a lot of time left to go, it's surprisingly short when you consider that there are over 500 nominations!

Hi All,

I'm senging this challange/search to multiple groups for maximum coverage. I have been watching a new show on(CBS) Monday nights,   Hawaii Five-0. As some of you might know it's a remake of an old show (this new one is MUCH better than the old one). On this show is an ex-navy seal turned cop and I have dreams of our dear Jack in full action mode visiting Hawaii in a action packed/whump fest. The rest of SG1 is optional as is the rest of the Five-o cast. Jack and MaGaret could have history, but both are good guys so other than sparing in a workout type thing I wouldn't want then pittted against each other.

I personally see lots of plots to be written and posted to the groups. Wish I could write, but I am dependant on you wonderful Jackficers (is that a word LOL, oh well it is now!!). I hope someone, lots of someones, takes up the challange and takes Jack (and maybe SG1 to be in awe of action Jack in sp-ops mode) to Hawaii to play in the sand.

Any takers??
Angela

Hello All.

Hope everyone is well. Long time no movement on the board. I miss our good times here. :)

Wanted to let you know that there is a new archive called "An Archive of Our Own" which has a number of invites available. Just click on the link above and request one. I have been moving mine over there for the last few months gathering them up from all over the web.  I'm about a third of the way through moving  "Parallel Universe" and I'm updating it along the way. Even dropped two of the original chapters. A couple of our friends from here are also moving their fics there as well. If you want to find me you can find my Sela 21k   homepage here.

Like I said before, I really miss you guys and I hope you are all well and writing great Jack!fic.

Take care, have great holidays and keep loving our boy Jack.

Big Hugs!

Hi all, yes I'm still around. No haven't been doing much on the board and really should. This is a great group. I'd love to do a "Roll Call" and see who is still around. Just log on and say Hi! and add any news of your own, any good fic you have read or want to post, and your own interests to date.

ME: Livi

Well I have been traveling and traveling. Just got back from more than a month abroad to Egypt and Petra in Jordan, where I checked many items off my bucket list. Tourism is so far down over there that we had no lines and lots of upgrades to our accommodations. I felt like Jack crawling, yes Daniel crawling... and shimmying through tombs, catacombs, pyramids, mastabas... no ziggurats... and the like. Yes I did crawl and I mean crawl into pyramids... on my belly. Oy the knees, the back... lol. Camel rides. Donkey rides. Oy the knees the back....! After a month, I swear I'm learning hieroglyphic. No did not find any Goa'uld or their remains, but did find crocodiles up north and the Golden Mummies out in the desert oasis of Bahariyya. Amazing that many of the tomb paintings are still as fresh and bold as the day they were painted. Astounding. Best experience? Going through Abu Simbel ALONE with my husband. When I say alone, I mean NO BODY ELSE was there except our friends and us. If you are jonesing to see the Pyramids, this is certainly the time. We were perfectly safe and the Egyptians were so welcoming. Say hi to the Sithspawn if you go. Sithspawn is in Cairo. Howdy.

On the science front, the Kepler Space Telescope http://kepler.nasa.gov  / has found a planet in the habitable zone of a star . It's 2.4 times the size of Earth but that's all we know so far.  I was invited and went to the launch almost 3 years ago now.  So yes there are other planets. Now is one like Earth? Got news? Let's hear it.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season,

Livi

Hi all! I'm still kicking too. Well, kind of... I managed to find a piece of ice
to slip on back on December 7 th. I slipped, bounced off the steel bar that's
across the door and went down flush on my right knee. The rest of me was like a
pretzel, with no telling how I got in that position.I did manage to have ice
applied within the first ten minutes and I think that helped with the bruising,
though, I do still have a multi-colored knee. I made it to the chiropractor a
week later. I was unable to drive or have a proper adjustment until then anyway.
Longer story short, I am doing a whole lot better now. He said that my kneecap
had been shoved up my thigh. I know that it could have been a whole lot worse. I
could have landed straight onto the cement instead of landing on the mat that
was over the cement. I have little round indentations of the mat in my skin.

My really big announcement is that our son got married back in May! She is a
lovely woman who is currently studying to be a Registered Nurse. They have
already started a family, albeit a furry one. They have two dogs and three cats.
Luckily, our son had already purchased a house two years prior. Yes, there is
room for humans too. The only problem for us is that they live 200 miles away
and during the snowy part of the year many of the highways leading there are
closed. Bah! Humbug!

On the really down side, both our 14 year-old dog and 18 year-old cat died this
year. It's been hard not having them around. We did adopt a four-year-old dog
from the local humane society this past September. He's been pretty clingy to
me, but has finally come out of his shell since Thanksgiving.

It seems that Livi has really been living the life all over the world. That is
totally fantastic!

Merry Christmas to all!

OK, who's next?

Diane

Hi Everyone,

I'm still around as well. Those unfinished fics still nag at me, but . . . I've
been obsessing on others things in the past two years. I went back to playing
music and have been having fun with that. Had surgery for skin cancer on my
face (slow growing) and had to have plastic surgery. It all went fine and is
barely noticeable. Went to Vancouver twice in 2010 for various Stargate related
conventions and met a bunch of really cool people . . . some I knew and some new
friends. Even got to Meet The Man. LOL! He really didn't like being called
"The Man" until we told him that it came from an episode. At work, we won a
stimulus grant, so I've been administering that for the past two years. I'm
glad it is over. It was pretty intense.

Other than that, my life is blessedly peaceful.

It is really good hearing from you all !

Neith

PS. Sela, archiving the fics is on my To Do list for someday.

I am here, too!

Doing my usual lurking and am busy trying to capture the excellent Stargate
fanfic to load into my Kindle. So many sites are down now that the stories are
getting harder to find.

I printed to read so I would not have to fight my glases and sore neck on the
computer and now my house is FULL in one whole room and hallways and walkways
with printed fics. Seems they don't hold up all that long on paper, much to my
surprise. So, got the Kindle that I can hold in any position to read while
sitting in a chair with my leg hanging over the arm, lying in bed, etc.

It occurred to me that some of those missing internet fics are in my stash
someplace. Invested in a scanner. Got a flatbed which will be a pain to scan
all those long fics I love, but I discovered many of my fics got stacked
katywumpus, and have bent pages that won't feed through the automatic feeding
scanners. I don't want to lose any of them. Then I can do backups and toss all
that pesky paper.

It is a labor of love and I am enjoying it. Finding new fics as I trace off
into recommendations, etc. Now, if I would just quit stopping to reread one of
my favorites, I would get much further along!

Everyone have a good holiday!

Luanne

You will love this. I haven't taken mine out of the box yet. However, I read up
on it a lot before I bought it. (Still obtaining massive amounts of fiction,
all in folders by title and author name before I start loading the Kindle.) I am
poor at computer stuff so needed something easy. First of course, get your
Kindle set up, charged and ready to go per the instructions.

It takes Word Documents. So, I am downloading everything onto a Word document.
Per story.

The Kindle plugs into a USB port on your computer. You should have gotten the
thingy to do that with your Kindle. You plug your Kindle in and open that up on
screen. Then you also open up your documents where your Word Stargate Stories
are located. Now, both open, get them into a smaller screen on the computer so
they show side by side. Then just point, hold down the story, and drag them
into your Kindle. Move from the documents location to the Kindle. You are
done. Called drag and drop, I think.

My Kindle only has 3 Gig of space to hold things, and I will likely have much
more than that. So, I plan to load a bunch, read them, and then move them back
to my documents and upload a whole new bunch. Can move them back and forth at
will.

I know that the things you purchase from Amazon for the Kindle are stored in the
'cloud' by them free of charge so they don't take room on the Kindle. They pull
down as you choose to read them. However, I never read anything that indicates
that your own choice of personal documents are stored that way, so am assuming I
have a limit on space for my stories. No problem however, as I can change them
out.

I am also going to store a set on thumb drives just in case my computer blows.

Hope this helps, Luanne

Great Thanks! I can do drag and drop! Yes to Cloud storage only on what you buy
from Amazon. Still, each story is in kilobytes and you can store plenty before
you hit gigabyte level. :)

I am loving this Kindle DX for the larger size to read magazines and newspapers.
Took it to Egypt with me and got my email at the pyramids on their 3G system for
free.

Anyone got lots of Word.doc files of stories to share for our Kindles?

Oh yeah. Have tons of stories in Word documents. They are sorted by genre
(sorta) but almost all of them are Jack related.

Hm! If you are familiar with Box.net, maybe we can both get a 2GB account
(free) and then you can download any of the fics that I have up there. I'm
putting that on my ToDo list for while I'm off work. Do you still have my email
address?

I've been copying every story that I like from the internet and cutting and
pasting into a Word Doc since I started reading fanfic. The older ones don't
say where they came from, but I started adding them when I started nominating
authors/stories.

Gotta head to work.

Nice hearing from everyone.

I mostly have older stories in doc format (when I printed 'em out), so maybe there'd be stuff in there you haven't got already...

cloud'. I earlier downloaded the free Kindle on your PC program, and then
downloaded a story using the e reader selection of the Fanfiction Uploader
someone was nice enough to pass around last year sometime. She had programmed
it herself and it works magic downloading from fanfiction.net.

I downloaded a story and then did the drop and drag thing over to the Kindle on
my PC. Unfortunately, the downloader program picks up all the chapter ending
garbage and many lines of xxxxs. I don't want that showing, so deleted that
story. My Kindle for PC is now empty. If I remember correctly, the My Kindle
for PC program will 'talk' to my Kindle when I get it hooked up. If so, that
will make it doubly easy to load my stories.

So for now, I am downloading into folders. When that project is completed, will
go through the stroies and remove the misc stuff I don't want there, like "Sorry
the chapter is late, but did my laundry, walked the dog, cooked dinner" and all
that stuff that really destroys the flow of the story when you are reading and
really into the plot. You know what I mean...

So, preamble over....

https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/ref=sa_menu_acd_urc2

I get this page as I have already downloaded the program for my PC. Otherwise, I
guess you get some other type of information page.

2 Really Great things! It WILL Cloud store your own personal documents.
Plus your own music, pictures, etc. even if it is not something you bought from
Amazon!

Secondly, if 5 gb of Cloud is not enough (that much is free), you can buy more.
For example, For $20 a year, you can go up to 20 gb of storage, and then on and
on. And for a limited time, if you purchase a plan, the music uploads, your OWN
music, will be unlimited. In other words, music won't make you go over your 20
gb etc.

I ran through the agreement quickly. You can't use the cloud to share with
someone else. You can't do any business for profit. Things like that.

This Kindle thing keeps getting better and better.

Yea!!

Hello everyone!  I checked my email and was pleasantly surprised to see that all my old friends are still here. :) It's been way too quiet here for way too long!

As you can tell, I'm still here too. Not a whole lot has been going on in my neck of the woods, although I'm still writing whenever I can get the chance.  And it just so happens that one of my latest fics is a Sam/Jack one.  I'm just going to link to it because it's 13 chapters long, but it involves Jack and Sam stranded on a planet all by themselves and struggling to survive while taking care of a baby left to them by a dying woman.  I hope you like it!

And don't forget to check out the stunning artwork that was created by Meekosan to complement the story.  It's really beautiful!

Oh, and like Sela, I also have an Archive of Our Own account where all my stuff (including this story) is uploaded to.

Hope you all have a great holiday!!

Sheryl  (aka Traycer)

Title: Living on the Edge
Pairing: Sam/Jack
Rating:
Warnings: Slight language, some violence and implied sexual relationship

Summary: Stranded in an off-world wilderness, Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter rely on their wits, skills and survival training to endure the hardships of their fate - made even more difficult when they are saddled with an orphaned baby. Determined to make it despite dangerous natives and an unexpected ally, they carved a home for themselves in the new world while fighting the forbidden attraction that developed between them.

A crash landing forced them to rely on each other. They hadn't counted on finding love along the way.

Author's Notes: This story is dedicated to the Sam/Jack shippers who asked for, but didn't get what they wanted in my story, "Tangled Alliances." I've wanted to write something like this for them ever since. I originally started this story for the LiveJournal community, "DayofIndulgence", then posted what I had written - the first 2,200 words - for the Day of Fic Amnesty (sponsored by the above named community), and when that didn't work, "Het Big Bang" came along and gave me the incentive to finish it.

I am extremely grateful to sgmajorshipper for the super OMG fantastic beta, and to meekosan for the absolutely gorgeous artwork created for this story.

You can read the story in its entirety here at this link - http://hetbigbang.weebly.com/living-on-the-edge-by-traycer.html

Happy holidays everyone. I hope you all have a fantastic time and get what you wish for. Eat, drink and be merry - if that is your thing. Otherwise enjoy whatever your "thing" happens to be, lol.

It's great to see some activity on the group lately. Yay, Jack!!! :-D Sorry I haven't been participating lately but it's been one heck of a year. Here's hoping for a far better new one for all of us.

Enjoy! :-)

Hi all, I read a story a bit ago, Jack/Sam of course, where Sam was at a
motorcycle show with someother guy. Jack was riding in the show but Sam didn't
know it. The guy slipped Sam a drug and assulted her, Jack stops it. Sam spends
a few days confused and "frisky" due to the drug. That's all I remember except
I'm pretty sure this was rated mature.

If anybody has the author/tittle and a link please share. Thanks.

Angela

Hi All!!

This time I don't have a particular story in mind. What I'm looking for are stories where Jack is forced to fight in an arena of some sort. I'll take any and all recomendations, with links attached if you can. Thanks in advance.

Yes I remember this one. It was pretty good too.

Anyone know a time travel story for SG1?

Hey All,

Once again I am searching for one of your written treasures.

This one deals with the Shades of Gray episode. SG1 run into a team stranded off world and they are getting sick and dying. Janet figures it to be lack of salt in the end. Anyway the other team forces SG1 to bring them back to Earth and they all get locked up in the gateroom, Jack is shot. The other team forces Jack, Janet and others to leave earth with them and Jack ends up crawling to a gun to shot a bad guy and save Janet.

Hope this rings a bell with someone as it was a great story and I would love to read it again. I hope someone has the story saved and can send me a copy.

Thanks for the help,
Angela
