Brian will be picking up at Pentagon City.  Brian, can you supply those who are coming with you with a contact number?  It looks like it will be Annette and Matt; I"m not sure how Jason is coming out.

Good, some of the titles were original, but how long could they be original?  I mean, admittedly, they managed for the first few years of the old series, but it had to be a stretch...

According to Digital Spy, it has been confirmed that the Christmas episode will indeed be called "The End of Time" Part One.  There has been some confusion for months about whether this was the title of the Christmas or the New Years special, and apparently its both.  This is the first time that the New Series has used the traditional naming convention rather than the "every episode gets its own title" plan that the series held in the early 60s.  So FINALLY we can use one title to refer to a complete story!  That's one of the things that I was really hoping Moffat would change once he took the throne.  It was done originally to get full impact out of the cliffhangers in Season One.  If something is called "The X of Y" Part One, you know there's going to be a cliffhanger coming.  The production team also didn't' want to risk losing viewers if they knew in advance that a show was going to be the first of two parts.  So hopefully this is the precedent set and Season Five will continue on with this plan.

Sorry you won't be coming.  You do have insightful comments sometimes...

BTW, for some reason, when I'm answering an email the previous message and other info gets - for lack of a better term - "mashed together".  The incoming message is fine by itself, when I've looked after I send the message it's fine, but just now it's spaghetti mixed.  How now?

I won't be at the meeting this Saturday.  I'll be in Cherry Hill, NJ at Philcon sitting at a table trying to sell memberships to Capclave 2010 (all part of the glamorous job of being convention vice-chair).

For those who are interested in SF conventions with a more literary bent, Capclave 2010's guest of honor  will be Connie Willis and Jeff and Ann Vandermeer.  In addition to the usual panel discussions, we will be offering a full array of workshops on topics such as writing, reviewing, contracts, query letters to agents, and podcasting.  Full weekend memberships are currently available for the low price of $35 and can be purchased via the website http://www.capclave.org.

Also, last year Capclave has some success attracting new attendees by offering special discounts for military and students and it looks like we will probably be offering those rates again of $25 for the whole weekend and $20 for Saturday only.

Welcome! Jason, you are wiling to come to the meeting this Saturday. I
have cats, but they may spend the whole time in the bedroom. Brian is
picking people up at Pentagon City Metro, and I can pick up people at West Falls
Church if I'm given enough warning.

BTW, Anita and Cathy, are you meeting Brian at Pentagon City or am I
picking you up at WFC?

BTW, Anita and Cathy, are you meeting Brian at Pentagon City or am I picking you up at WFC?

NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)

Heads up everyone!  Please, keep this circulating...  You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside.  You start the engine and shift into Reverse.  When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.  So you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.  When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off.  They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car (not like they'd care if they did) And guess what, ladies?  I bet your purse is still in the car.  So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys.  Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.  If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away.  Remove the paper later.  And be thankful that you read this email.  I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women.  A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

this is still the plan, can we get an address and/or directions?

British Scientist Comes Forward as Blogger Behind Call Girl

Billie Piper

A British scientist said she is Belle de Jour, the anonymous blogger whose accounts were turned into books and the television series Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

Brooke Magnanti told British newspaper The Sunday Times that she decided to unmask herself as the writer of the accounts because she was afraid an ex-boyfriend would expose her.  Magnanti, a child health researcher at the University of Bristol in Western England, said she worked as an escort for more than a year while finishing her Ph.D.

Following the publication of the bestselling books about her secret life as a prostitute, Magnanti's identity has been one of the great literary mysteries of the decade.  Magnanti wrote her blog as Belle de Jour, a legal secretary who moonlighted as a call girl, and it served as the basis for three books and British TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which will soon begin its third season on Showtime in the United States.

The 34-year-old scientist said she was relieved "to be able to defend what my experience of sex work is like to all the skeptics and doubters."  She also said her fellow colleagues have been "amazingly kind and supportive" about the news.

Magnanti, who has been writing a novel, said she will continue her blog a bit longer.  "I'd like [Belle] to have a happy ending," she said.

USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007 series
with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed to Public TV stations
by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV. Series 4 also seems to be
available to buy - start date for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC
Worldwide Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to stations.

If you're a PBS station airing Doctor Who and I don't have you listed - contact
me. If you're watching Doctor Who on a PBS station that's not on this list -
contact me AND tell me the day, time, and episode that aired so I can track
things down (some stations have websites where schedule information is -
lacking).

The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and Series 3:
WXXI 21 Rochester, NY
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL (currently in first run)
WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
WTVP 47 Peoria, IL
Iowa Public TV
Idaho Public TV
Wisconsin Public TV
Milwaukee Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
OETA Oklahoma
KLRU 18 Austin, TX
Alaska Public TV
WSKG/WSKA 46,30 Binghamton/Elmira, NY
KERA 13 Dallas, TX (currently in first run)

Now, I am confident that there are more stations with rights to Series 3 than
that. But these are the stations who have contacted me or scheduled the show.
Unlike previous years, we are in the dark till a station comes forward or new
Who appears in their schedules.

Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in an American Public TV
package until March 31, 2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have
bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required
to do so. American Public TV is no longer offering Series 1 - I do not know if
BBC Worldwide Americas will offer those stations to public TV stations now or
not.

2 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run
(1963-1989), but not New Who. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Peter Davison
episodes. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes.

Two Minute Time Lord http://twominutetimelord.com
A bite-sized commentary and revew show. Host Chip's interest was rekindled by

seconds, because we're ALL in a hurry these days.

new installment in a while.

Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who story in
broadcast order. It is a very different style from Jonathan's. Again - can they
pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family of podcasts. Warning - explicit language
(swearing). If your headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episodes
24. The Web Of Fear. One story to rule them all. One story to guide them. And
other stuff.
25. Fury From The Deep and The Wheel In Space. Victoria goes out on a (relative)
high in our hosts' minds. But all thoughts of Victoria are sucked out the
airlock by the arrival of Zoe Herriot.
Coming soon-ish - 26. The Dominators and The Mind Robber.

Hoo On Who http://hooonwho.com
Fan reviews of recent Doctor Who DVDs by David Hooie, frequently with a guest
co-host.
Current episode:
#14. The Caves Of Androzani. Well, eventually David reviews The Caves Of
Androzani. First he goes a bit off format to have an excellent interview with
podcaster/radio host Steve Glosson, host of SHoE, Geek Out Loud, and the Big
Honkin' Show. Also, David is planning a get together with listeners at Gallifrey
21. Now, if I'm right about the hot tub he wants to meet at, he may have to
relocate the meeting to the somewhat cooler pool just a few feet away - my
memory is that the hot one is rather small. Rest assured, there is a detailed
review of The Caves Of Androzani in the episode.

Tom Dickinson begins a solo Doctor Who podcast effort with short shows on short
subject that get to the point, bulldoze through the point, back up to ground the
point down some more, then flee the scene before the police arrive.
Current episode - 4. Requiem For A Drama. Tom returns after 4 weeks away and
looks at shows that are cancelled before their time. Is it worth investing in a
show that might soon (or has already) been cancelled. Tom's view is similar to
mine (yes, it is worth it), but you're downloading Tom's show for his opinions
on this.

Irregular and irreverant podcast looking at the world of Doctor Who with a

The Waters Of Mars premieres tomorrow (Sunday) in the UK. First new episode
since April. The beginning of the end for the 10th Doctor:

The Waters Of Mars (the next Doctor Who episode) has airdates in 5 Countries
now:
UK (and other territories where you can see BBC One) - Sunday 15 November 7PM
GMT BBC One/BBC HD simulcast
UK - Wednesday 18 November 8PM GMT BBC Three
NEW ZEALAND - Sunday 29 November 7:30PM Prime TV
AUSTRALIA - Sunday 6 December 7:30PM ABC1
CANADA - Saturday 19 December 9PM EST (6PM PST) SPACE
USA - Saturday 19 December 9PM, Midnight, and 3AM EST (6PM, 9PM, and Midnight
PST) BBC America

Doctor Who Confidential will have a 1 hour episode - Is There Life On Mars? The
episode will premiere on 15 November at 8PM GMT (BBC Three/BBC HD simulcast) and
3:30AM (BBC Three only).

There will be a full length podcast commentary for The Waters Of Mars like all
recent Doctor Who episodes. At the moment, this commentary is scheduled to air
on BBC Radio 7 late Saturday 14 November at Midnight GMT. I am aware that this
is 19 hours *before* the TV showing of The Waters Of Mars. Remember that the
commentary generally goes online for a week after broadcast and that Radio 7's
programming can be heard through their Listen Again service for a week, so
nobody has to spoil themselves for the episode to ensure that they hear the
commentary. Meanwhile, if Radio 7 actually does air the commentary before BBC
One airs the episode and you hear the commentary, try not to spoil everybody you
know on the plot before the show airs. Thank you.

BBC America will probably treat Waters Of Mars and the 2 part David Tennant
finale as a 3 episode special. They plan to announce airdates for the last 2
episodes in early December and at the moment expect to air them in the holiday
season. Special BBC America events related to the Waters Of Mars:
Sunday 13 December 1PM EST/10AM PST - Doctor Who marathon with "best episodes",
including The Next Doctor and Planet Of The Dead.
Saturday 19 December 8PM EST/5PM PST (with the usual 2 repeats later at night) -
Doctor Who special, 1 hour (no details)
Saturday 19 December 9PM EST/6PM PST (with the usual 2 repeats) - 90 minute slot
for The Waters Of Mars, definitely uncut
Saturday 19 December 10:30PM EST/7:30PM PST (with the usual 2 repeast) - 30
minute Graham Norton Doctor Who special, which will probably be a cutdown

Hi everyone,

It's my first time posting (I tend to quietly lurk in the background).
For those of you who don't yet own the DVD's of the new Who, the
Amazon.com deal of the day is any of the series (1-4) on DVD for $32.49
(no tax, and eligible for free shipping). This is a fantastic price,
today (Friday) only. When they are sold out, you can't get the deal
anymore. http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27
