Thanks.  Trust me, she isn't the only one breathing easier, and I'm just a great aunt.  Or is it a grand-aunt?  I always get that mixed up.

Congratulations!  I agree, the birth of a grandniece trumps even Doctor Who :)

My grandniece came into the world, probably wondering why people were so freaked out about her arrival.  She just wanted to get here two weeks early, and she was so excited that her heart was dancing.  Fortunately, itty bitty Phoebe is now perfectly happy and healthy and settled down into her new life.

DirecTV added Beckley West Virginia locals to its service starting in November.  But you must upgrade to a HD receiver to be able to receive them.  No idea what channel it is but its 9.1 HD over the air  SO you can now see Doctor Who on the dish in Beckley with out BBC America commercials.   Some people I know who have DirecTV and have to purchase another receiver to get local channels are not to happy about this.

This Week In Doctor Who PBS and Podcasts

USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007 series with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed to Public TV stations by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV. Series 4 also seems to be available to buy - start date for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC Worldwide Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to stations.

If you're a PBS station airing Doctor Who and I don't have you listed - contact me. If you're watching Doctor Who on a PBS station that's not on this list - contact me AND tell me the day, time, and episode that aired so I can track things down (some stations have websites where schedule information is - lacking).

The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and Series 3:
WXXI 21 Rochester, NY
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL (currently in first run)
WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
WTVP 47 Peoria, IL
Iowa Public TV
Idaho Public TV
Wisconsin Public TV
Milwaukee Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
OETA Oklahoma
KLRU 18 Austin, TX
Alaska Public TV
WSKG/WSKA 46,30 Binghamton/Elmira, NY
KERA 13 Dallas, TX (currently in first run)

Now, I am confident that there are more stations with rights to Series 3 than that. But these are the stations who have contacted me or scheduled the show. Unlike previous years, we are in the dark till a station comes forward or new Who appears in their schedules.

Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in an American Public TV package until March 31, 2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required to do so. American Public TV is no longer offering Series 1 - I do not know if BBC Worldwide Americas will offer those stations to public TV stations now or not.

2 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run (1963-1989), but not New Who. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Peter Davison episodes. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes.

Current:
Episode 58 - "David Tennant's Little Adventure". An alternate universe Jean with a male voice keeps the team at a full five players. The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith and her plucky marriage crashing friend the Doctor dominate the show. Fun for all - or they'll set the Head of Pertwee on you.

Tony Gallichan. Jo! One man, one woman. One with decades of Doctor Who fan experience. Another who turns on the show when it airs on TV. One has lots of cats. Another can say the word "news" in various amusing ways. Together they unite for a weekly look into the worlds of Doctor Who, hoping to make a TV show for the brain. Can you get feedback in on their latest episode before they record their next one - good luck with that.
Current episodes:
SPECIAL - Vanguard Radio Doctor Who Special. Tony pulls out from the vaults an episode of an internet radio show he used to host. This time, it featured the music of Doctor Who from the beginning to the then-present.
24. Logopolis is the main subject, with lots of feedback, and the Space Goat calling in sick because it was off eating George Clooney. Meanwhile - can a cat dislike Tom Baker?

Bridging The Rift http://bridgingtherift.wordpress.com

13. Cursed Episode Thirteen. Major production problems (I can relate - I am still relating) have scrapped several plans for new episodes. But on Friday November 13, our hosts use pluck and feedback to piece together a new episode.

26. "Absolute David". David's radio appearance, more about Rex, and what would have happened if an earlier pilot of David's had made him famous before the Casonova/Harry Potter/Doctor Who opportunities had come around.

The Wailing Fangirl http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22228
Samantha (Romana 2) explores Doctor Who and fandom in Australia, sometimes with the aid of the ladies of the Gallifreyan Time Love Brigade. Frequent cast member on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.

15b. Full length (not 2 minutes short like BBC Radio 7) commentary on The Waters Of Mars.
Coming when it comes.

The inevitable episodes looking at David Tennant's final stories.

A Podcast Of Impossible Things http://podcastofimpossiblethings.blogspot.com
Cardiff-based Doctor Who fans get together to discuss the latest Doctor Who and do a full length commentary on new Doctor Who episodes.
Current episode:
Sarah Jane Adventures - The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith. Both episodes get a commentary with some extra discussion at both ends of this episode, the first new installment in a while.

Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who story in broadcast order. It is a very different style from Jonathan's. Again - can they pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family of podcasts. Warning - explicit language (swearing). If your headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episodes
26. The Dominators and The Mind Robber. Our hosts like moving pictures. They like Zoe. They like clever ideas. While they find some faults, this is the most positive episode in a while. Those looking for complaints should pick an earlier episode - perhaps 22 or 23.
Coming soon-ish - 27. (I think) The Invasion and The Krotons.

Hoo On Who http://hooonwho.com
Fan reviews of recent Doctor Who DVDs by David Hooie, frequently with a guest co-host.
Current episode:
#15. City Of Death. After some production problems (seems to be happening to everybody), David returns with a solo host review of City Of Death, the story that to this day has the highest first run broadcast ratings of any Doctor Who. Tom Baker, Lalla Ward, co-written by Douglas Adams. And the DVD release is 2 full discs. There's even a blink and you'll miss it appearance of This Week In Doctor Who in one of the documentaries. David also details some future plans for the podcast.

The Cloister Room http://thecloisterroom.com
Tom Dickinson begins a solo Doctor Who podcast effort with short shows on short subject that get to the point, bulldoze through the point, back up to ground the point down some more, then flee the scene before the police arrive.
Current episode - 4. Requiem For A Drama. Tom returns after 4 weeks away and looks at shows that are cancelled before their time. Is it worth investing in a show that might soon (or has already) been cancelled. Tom's view is similar to mine (yes, it is worth it), but you're downloading Tom's show for his opinions on this.

Tim's Take On ...
Tim Drury's podcast on various issues. Available on iTunes.

The Big Finish Podcast http://www.bigfinish.com/podcast
Big Finish podcasts at least once a month to discuss their Doctor Who and other projects (Sapphire and Steel, Stargate (!), Dark Shadows, Bernice Summerfield, etc).
Current episode:

Tachyon TV http://www.tachyon-tv.co.uk
Irregular and irreverant podcast looking at the world of Doctor Who with a funhouse mirror and coming out the other side holding a plush toy that wasn't really the one you wanted but you'll keep it anyway because you can give it to your girlfriend to impress her. It's that kind of show.
Current segment - a short appeal by "Rula Lenska".

MMM Commentaries/Fantragic http://www.mmmcommentaries.com
Roving Australian podcasting gang, including Trevor from the DWO Whocast. Commentaries on Doctor Who episodes, Star Wars films, some Stargate stuff, and others. The Frantragic episodes look at Doctor Who and other sci-fi news. Fantragic episodes are on a different iTunes feed from MMM Commentary episodes.
Current Doctor Who episode - Journey's End. If the description in the iTunes tag is anything to go by, this running commentary on the Doctor Who Series 4 finale will not have a happy ending.

This Week In Doctor Who PBS and Podcasts
November 21, 2009 - Vol 1, No 43
All the Public TV Listings And Podcast Pronouncements

USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007 series
with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed to Public TV stations
by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV. Series 4 also seems to be
available to buy - start date for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC
Worldwide Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to stations.

If you're a PBS station airing Doctor Who and I don't have you listed - contact
me. If you're watching Doctor Who on a PBS station that's not on this list -
contact me AND tell me the day, time, and episode that aired so I can track
things down (some stations have websites where schedule information is -
lacking).

The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and Series 3:
WXXI 21 Rochester, NY
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL (currently in first run)
WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
WTVP 47 Peoria, IL
Iowa Public TV
Idaho Public TV
Wisconsin Public TV
Milwaukee Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
OETA Oklahoma
KLRU 18 Austin, TX
Alaska Public TV
WSKG/WSKA 46,30 Binghamton/Elmira, NY
KERA 13 Dallas, TX (currently in first run)

Now, I am confident that there are more stations with rights to Series 3 than
that. But these are the stations who have contacted me or scheduled the show.
Unlike previous years, we are in the dark till a station comes forward or new
Who appears in their schedules.

Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in an American Public TV
package until March 31, 2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have
bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required
to do so. American Public TV is no longer offering Series 1 - I do not know if
BBC Worldwide Americas will offer those stations to public TV stations now or
not.

2 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run
(1963-1989), but not New Who. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Peter Davison
episodes. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes.

And now, the listings:

Public TV Premiere Run:

WTTW 11.1 Chicago, IL http://www.wttw.com
Chicago DirecTV 11,965 DirecTVHD 11
Chicago Dish 11,8496
Rockford, IL - cable station only
Series 3 - 1st Cycle:
Late Saturday Midnight CST 3-12 "The Sound Of Drums" pt 2 of 3
Sunday 10PM, Late Thursday Midnight CST 3-13 "Last Of The Time Lords" pt 3 of 3

A bite-sized commentary and revew show. Host Chip's interest was rekindled by

seconds, because we're ALL in a hurry these days.

winding together roughly once every 2 weeks. The website's main focus is on
stories collected through the years.

experience. Another who turns on the show when it airs on TV. One has lots of
cats. Another can say the word "news" in various amusing ways. Together they

for the brain. Can you get feedback in on their latest episode before they
record their next one - good luck with that.

episode of an internet radio show he used to host. This time, it featured the
music of Doctor Who from the beginning to the then-present.

dislike Tom Baker?

interest.

Talkshoe program. Frequent cast member on the Cultdom Collective.
48. Delta And The Bannermen; The Waters Of Mars. Darth Skeptical hosts this

they reacted to these two stories. Episode is roughly 2 hours, 7 minutes long.

The Tennantcast http://tennantcast.com
Kelsey, Kari, Flossie, and friends get together to dish on the latest David
Tennant news.
25. "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer". David Tennant is busier than ever, and that suits
the ladies (who are all together again) just fine.
26. "Absolute David". David's radio appearance, more about Rex, and what would
have happened if an earlier pilot of David's had made him famous before the
Casonova/Harry Potter/Doctor Who opportunities had come around.

The Wailing Fangirl http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22228

the aid of the ladies of the Gallifreyan Time Love Brigade. Frequent cast member
on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.
Current episode:
15a. Review of The Waters Of Mars. Recorded right after the ladies had seen The
Waters Of Mars. Some people may have to manually download this one if they use
iTunes, as iTunes favors the newest episode, namely
15b. Full length (not 2 minutes short like BBC Radio 7) commentary on The Waters
Of Mars.
Coming when it comes.
Reviews and commentaries of all of Steven Moffat's episodes so far.
The inevitable episodes looking at David Tennant's final stories.

A Podcast Of Impossible Things http://podcastofimpossiblethings.blogspot.com
Cardiff-based Doctor Who fans get together to discuss the latest Doctor Who and
do a full length commentary on new Doctor Who episodes.

commentary with some extra discussion at both ends of this episode, the first
new installment in a while.

Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who story in
broadcast order. It is a very different style from Jonathan's. Again - can they
pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family of podcasts. Warning - explicit language
(swearing). If your headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episodes
26. The Dominators and The Mind Robber. Our hosts like moving pictures. They
like Zoe. They like clever ideas. While they find some faults, this is the most
positive episode in a while. Those looking for complaints should pick an earlier
episode - perhaps 22 or 23.
Coming soon-ish - 27. (I think) The Invasion and The Krotons.

Hoo On Who http://hooonwho.com
Fan reviews of recent Doctor Who DVDs by David Hooie, frequently with a guest
co-host.
Current episode:
#15. City Of Death. After some production problems (seems to be happening to
everybody), David returns with a solo host review of City Of Death, the story
that to this day has the highest first run broadcast ratings of any Doctor Who.
Tom Baker, Lalla Ward, co-written by Douglas Adams. And the DVD release is 2
full discs. There's even a blink and you'll miss it appearance of This Week In
Doctor Who in one of the documentaries. David also details some future plans for
the podcast.

The Cloister Room http://thecloisterroom.com
Tom Dickinson begins a solo Doctor Who podcast effort with short shows on short
subject that get to the point, bulldoze through the point, back up to ground the
point down some more, then flee the scene before the police arrive.
Current episode - 4. Requiem For A Drama. Tom returns after 4 weeks away and
looks at shows that are cancelled before their time. Is it worth investing in a
show that might soon (or has already) been cancelled. Tom's view is similar to
mine (yes, it is worth it), but you're downloading Tom's show for his opinions
on this.

Tim's Take On ...
Tim Drury's podcast on various issues. Available on iTunes.

The Big Finish Podcast http://www.bigfinish.com/podcast

upcoming Doctor Who audios, surprises, and more details on the Sherlock Holmes
range.

Tachyon TV http://www.tachyon-tv.co.uk
Irregular and irreverant podcast looking at the world of Doctor Who with a
funhouse mirror and coming out the other side holding a plush toy that wasn't
really the one you wanted but you'll keep it anyway because you can give it to
your girlfriend to impress her. It's that kind of show.
Current segment - a short appeal by "Rula Lenska".

MMM Commentaries/Fantragic http://www.mmmcommentaries.com
Roving Australian podcasting gang, including Trevor from the DWO Whocast.
Commentaries on Doctor Who episodes, Star Wars films, some Stargate stuff, and
others. The Frantragic episodes look at Doctor Who and other sci-fi news.
Fantragic episodes are on a different iTunes feed from MMM Commentary episodes.
Current Doctor Who episode - Journey's End. If the description in the iTunes tag
is anything to go by, this running commentary on the Doctor Who Series 4 finale
will not have a happy ending.

The Waters Of Mars rollout is underway. The episode has premiered in the UK.
Upcoming premieres:

UK Military Forces - Sunday 22 November 7:10PM CET BFBS 1
NEW ZEALAND - Sunday 29 November 7:30PM Prime TV
AUSTRALIA - Sunday 6 December 7:30PM ABC1
CANADA - Saturday 19 December 9PM EST (6PM PST) SPACE
USA - Saturday 19 December 9PM, Midnight, and 3AM EST (6PM, 9PM, and Midnight
PST) BBC America

The Christmas episode (part one of the finale) now has an official title - The
End Of Time, Part One. This makes the concluding episode The End Of Time, Part
Two. This is the first time that both episodes of a 2 parter have had the same
title in the current version of Doctor Who.

Airdates for The End Of Time, Part One:
UK - BBC One - Christmas Day (time TBA)
USA - BBC America - Saturday 26 December 9PM, Midnight, and 3AM EST (6PM, 9PM,
and Midnight PST) - this is the fastest that the new Doctor Who has reached the
USA. The only stories to ever reach the US faster were The Five Doctors (1983)
and The TV Movie (1996), because they aired in the US before the UK.

No airdates for The End Of Time, Part Two yet.

The new animated Doctor Who story Dreamland (starring David Tennant and Georgia
Moffett) starts today in the UK 6 part serialized version 21 to 26 November on
the Red Button service. Saturday 5 December 10AM GMT on BBC Two (45 minute 1
part version). Saturday 5 December 5:55PM GMT on BBC HD.

SciFi Channel Spain will go straight into Series 4 when it finishes premiering
Series 3. Series 4 starts on 14 December.

BBC America http://www.bbcamerica.com has shelved its Saturday evening repeats
of Torchwood, stopping after last week's Captain Jack Harkness encore. Doctor
Who repeats have taken the timeslot. BBC America is swapping several shows
around without notice right now.

The official cast list for the 2010 Doctor Who series:

The Doctor: Matt Smith
Amy Pond: Karen Gillan

From the Dulles Toll Road, get off at Wiehle Avenue exit.  Turn right.  follow Wiehle to the second North Shore Drive (you'll go under a bridge).  Turn right.  If you pass the synagogue or the Catholic church, you've gone too far.  Turn right again at Becontree Lane (Forest Edge Elementary School is on the corner) and follow it to the end.  Turn right again on Becontree Lake Drive.  There is a circle where the buses turn around.  On the far side of it is a drainage gutter, so slow way down or you'll bottom out.  At the bottom of the hill, turn right and the visitor parking is on the right side of the road.  When you go into the building, the third floor is actually only one flight up.  I'm in Apt 27-307.

If you get lost, you can call me at 703-435-7172.

I'll be using GPS, but if you will just post it to the
list (I'm running behind on checking my e-mail, but can
easily check the Group Site.). I won't be annoyed. I
seem to recall that getting into the lot, at your place,
is a little complicated. Are there any 'reserved' spaces
that I should avoid using in your parking lot?

Just announced:

Its already known that "The Waters of Mars" will be airing on BBC America on December 19th.  But now the network has announced that it will be broadcasting "The End of Time" Part One on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26 at 9:00 p.m..  That's just ONE DAY after it airs on BBC1.  They've not yet announced the air date for Part Two, but that's got to be because BBC1 hasn't announced its own air date for the (reportedly) 75-minute finale.  I think we can assume a similar arrangement for that final episode.  Its almost certain that Part Two will air on BBC1 on New Years Day, so we can assume a Saturday, Jan 2 American broadcast date.

Let's hope this is the pattern that will continue when Season Five hits the airwaves!

And after that..."Waters of Mars" and both parts of "End of Time" will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in America on February 2.  The same day, a 5-disk boxset with all of the 2009 specials plus a 16-page book with foreword by David Tennant will be released.

Exciting!

Brian will be picking up at Pentagon City.  Brian, can you supply those who are coming with you with a contact number?  It looks like it will be Annette and Matt; I"m not sure how Jason is coming out.

Good, some of the titles were original, but how long could they be original?  I mean, admittedly, they managed for the first few years of the old series, but it had to be a stretch...

According to Digital Spy, it has been confirmed that the Christmas episode will indeed be called "The End of Time" Part One.  There has been some confusion for months about whether this was the title of the Christmas or the New Years special, and apparently its both.  This is the first time that the New Series has used the traditional naming convention rather than the "every episode gets its own title" plan that the series held in the early 60s.  So FINALLY we can use one title to refer to a complete story!  That's one of the things that I was really hoping Moffat would change once he took the throne.  It was done originally to get full impact out of the cliffhangers in Season One.  If something is called "The X of Y" Part One, you know there's going to be a cliffhanger coming.  The production team also didn't' want to risk losing viewers if they knew in advance that a show was going to be the first of two parts.  So hopefully this is the precedent set and Season Five will continue on with this plan.

Sorry you won't be coming.  You do have insightful comments sometimes...

BTW, for some reason, when I'm answering an email the previous message and other info gets - for lack of a better term - "mashed together".  The incoming message is fine by itself, when I've looked after I send the message it's fine, but just now it's spaghetti mixed.  How now?

I won't be at the meeting this Saturday.  I'll be in Cherry Hill, NJ at Philcon sitting at a table trying to sell memberships to Capclave 2010 (all part of the glamorous job of being convention vice-chair).

For those who are interested in SF conventions with a more literary bent, Capclave 2010's guest of honor  will be Connie Willis and Jeff and Ann Vandermeer.  In addition to the usual panel discussions, we will be offering a full array of workshops on topics such as writing, reviewing, contracts, query letters to agents, and podcasting.  Full weekend memberships are currently available for the low price of $35 and can be purchased via the website http://www.capclave.org.

Also, last year Capclave has some success attracting new attendees by offering special discounts for military and students and it looks like we will probably be offering those rates again of $25 for the whole weekend and $20 for Saturday only.

Welcome! Jason, you are wiling to come to the meeting this Saturday. I
have cats, but they may spend the whole time in the bedroom. Brian is
picking people up at Pentagon City Metro, and I can pick up people at West Falls
Church if I'm given enough warning.

BTW, Anita and Cathy, are you meeting Brian at Pentagon City or am I
picking you up at WFC?

Welcome!  Jason, you are wiling to come to the meeting this Saturday.  I have cats, but they may spend the whole time in the bedroom.  Brian is picking people up at Pentagon City Metro, and I can pick up people at West Falls Church if I'm given enough warning.

BTW, Anita and Cathy, are you meeting Brian at Pentagon City or am I picking you up at WFC?

Hi Jason!  Nice to meet you.  I'm Alan, I live in Atlanta.  I don't post very often on this group, and I really should.  I'll try to be better about that from now on.  I post Who-related news articles whenever I find them on various Yahoo groups, I should start including this group on my list.  Anyway, glad you found a group to geek out over Doctor Who with!

Take care,

My address is 11027 Becontree Lake Dr., Apt 307, Reston.

If you tell me which way you're coming out, I can give you directions for the final stages.

Matt, if you're allergic to cats, make sure you load up on Benadryl as there will be cats in residence, if not in evidence.

Oh, do I know that one!

And your address is ... ? I can't find it.
Can you post it, again, please?

This is still true, but 1:15 will work as it's
about a 1/2 hour drive to Reston from there,
and that will give us 1/4 hour to walk to the
mall's garage, and time to find the correct
door in Reston. Just post to the list if you
want a ride. I'm running behind on checking
my e-mail, but can easily check the Group Site.
