A
group to discuss the works of one of the most celebrated writers to
emerge from British Television. Manx born, Thomas Nigel kneale created
& wrote the Quatermass serials
(The Quatermass Experiment, QuatermassII & Quatermass and the Pit)
for the BBC during the 1950s, as well as adapting the first televised version of George Orwells Nineteen Eighty Four also for the BBC. His Quatermass
serials were remade by Hammer Films in the 1950s/60s, 2 of which he
wrote scripts for. He also wrote many plays for television throughout the 1960s & 1970s, amongst these were The Road, The Wine of india & The Year of the S*x Olympics, as well his very successful re-working of the traditional ghost story The Stone Tape. Kneale also worked in film during the 1950s & 1960s, but it is his TV work that he is best remembered for. A final Quatermass story appeared in 1979 on the ITV network. A live remake of The Quatermass Experiment was broadcast on BBC4 in 2005. Nigel kneale passed away in October 2006 at the age of 84 years old.
