This time around Shea's the good guy. He plays
Adam, the leader of Mutant X whose last name is
shrouded in mystery and who just might be the smartest man
alive. <br><br>"He was a scientist, a 19-year-old
prodigy at Stanford University, a bio-geneticist, hired
away to go work for a company called Genomex," Shea
said. "He started working doing agricultural
cross-fertilization using cross-gene work, thinking that this work
was going to be for Alberta, for Saskatchewan, for
Kansas and Nebraska. Then, of course, it turns out that
the things that he was developing agriculturally,
maybe even for animals in terms of genetic engineering
and cloning, was being secretly being by the darker
side of this corporation for human genetic
engineering. <br><br>"He discovers that the Genomex is
actually a cover corporation for a wing of the CIA - the
American Industrial Complex - and that they're using the
genetic research to develop these powers in human
embryos. So, he's disgusted by this, and he downloads
everything he can before he can be captured. And then what
happens in the course of the series is that the embryos
that were experimented upon are now coming into
maturity and people are discovering, much to their
surprise, that they have these astonishing powers.
<br><br>"They also find out they are being pursued by this
branch of the government called the GSA - or the
Genetics Security Agency - which is now trying to track us
down, hunt us down, to exploit the powers for their own
dark purposes. You can imagine how they could use guys
like this in espionage and the military espionage and
in mind control. Or they will kill us if we don't
play their game. <br><br>"What Adam, my character has
done, is he's used the money that he has made the money
in the Internet - before it all went south, like
last December - and invested his many millions in an
underground sanctuary." <br><br>While Shea said it's fun to
be a hero, he considers Adam to be more of an
anti-hero. <br><br>"It's complex, a very human being, not a
one-dimensional super-hero by any stretch," Shea said. "The guy
is a scientist, and that's already a weird thing to
be, and a complicated thing to be. Secondly, he is on
the run, so he's a fugitive scientist. He's being
hunted down by the GSA, but actually part of the
government, and that's the law, so he's an outlaw scientist.
So that becomes complicated for me emotionally,
intellectually and spiritually. And it makes him much more
interesting to play."
John Shea, who stars in the upcoming Mutant X
syndicated television series, said he was particular about
his return to a television series after Lois & Clark:
The New Adventures of Superman. <br><br>"After being
part of that team that created Lois & Clark and been
involved in that creative team for a period of over four
years and having seen it go global, and become a global
phenomenon, I waited five years," said Shea, who played Lex
Luthor in Lois & Clark. <br><br>"I retreated into the
independent film world, to the New York theater world, and I
didn't want to come back into the mainstream television
world until I knew that I could come onto something
that was equally good and not be embarrassing. I knew
I wanted to do something different and that was
going to be a hit. <br><br>"I read a lot of pilots. I
was offered lots of TV series, and I waited until
Mutant X came along. It was the perfect place, it was
the perfect series at the perfect time in my life."
hey all!<br><br>I've seen the two trailers and I
must say this show will rock (as long as they wont do
stupid things writers sometimes do, but I bet they
wont).<br><br>Anyway, I wont be able to see it cause it probably wont
be baught by any Israeli TV stations, so I will have
to relay on downloading the episodes (hopefully
those will come fast).<br><br>So whats up with you

Victor Webster, who stars as Brennan Mulwray in
the upcoming Mutant X television series, told The
Continuum he does his own wire work and fight scenes for
the show. <br><br>"I think the fans really appreciate
when they see the actor's face spinning and it's not
some guy covering his face," Webster said. "It's a
very physically intense role, and I really enjoy it."
<br><br>Webster, a huge action movie fan, said he has been
training since he was 9 years old and sported an
undefeated record as a kick-boxer. Mutant X allows him to
takes advantage of those physical skills. <br><br>"We
trained for three weeks of intensive wire work training,
and stunt fight choreography and gymnastics - for
three weeks before and we continually train now that
we're shooting," Webster said. <br><br>Of course, one
thing Webster isn't doing that his character does:
shooting electricity with his mutant powers.
<br><br>Webster, who played Nicholas Alamain on the NBC soap Days
of Our Lives, called Brennan the "rock 'n roll bad
boy" of Mutant X. <br><br>"Brennan is a smart-ass,"
Webster said. "He's very well bred and intelligent in a
street sense. He's not a scholar, like an intellectual,
university scholar, but he's extremely smart in the ways of
the world. He's been a criminal and lived on his
street smarts since he was out of high school.
<br><br>"He hid his mutant abilities from everybody even
until right before joining Mutant X, when he was
exposed by a Judas, somebody that he worked with that
exposed him because of the competition factor."
<br><br>And although Mutant X has a lot of action, Webster
said there's more to the show than that. <br><br>"The
cool thing about the writing and the scripts that
we're doing is that from the beginning they had a
chance to feel us out and put our characters on paper
before we were even cast," he said. "And the very
interesting thing was that when they cast us, how similar our
personalities to our characters are. Now that they've seen us
in action and seen us speak the words that they've
written, we've really kind of melded and kind of gelled
together with the characters, and we're really making them
our own. <br><br>"That's what makes it so much fun.
You get a sense of comedy. You get some one-liners,
some smart-ass cracks here and there. You get some
very intelligent dialogue. It's a mixture. You're not
going to sit there and watch all technical jargon. And
while there's a lot of action, you're going to get a
little comedy thrown in and you're going to get some
character-driven drama as well as you're going to get some
relationships between characters. It brings a lot to the entire
show." <br><br>Webster has been a reader of comics and
counts Green Lantern, Batman, Justice League of America,
Spider-Man and Groo, The Wanderer among his favorites. He
said he feels that Mutant X captures comic-book
sensibilities without becoming campy. <br><br>"I don't want
sound cocky in the fact that I am so happy to be part
of this show, but there's no hoping or guessing for
me: I know people are going to enjoy the show,"
Webster said. "I've been in the crowd. I've been watching
action movies you've never heard of, comic books,
everything since I was a kid. For me, this is a dream come
true. And if I wasn't part of this show, I'd still be
watching every single week." <br><br>In other Mutant X
news: <br><br><br>The series premiere is titled "The
Shock Of The New." Here's how the episode is described:
<br>"On a mission to protect the unwitting subjects of a
covert human genetics program gone awry, Adam (John
Shea) and his Mutant X team set out to find these new
mutants before the organizaton that created them can hunt
them down and exploit their special powers."
I agree completely! There seem 2b A LOT of
similarities everywhere u look. In a way, it's kinda cheezy. I
know that Marvel is behind it and trying to breach a
new audience on t.v. with a subject made more known
by the movie. But to have the characters attempt 2b
so different from the others yet so blatantly AREN'T
is kinda, well, 'second rate' and thus cheezy. Then
again, because of the FOX corp. grabbing all they can
with the X-Men world because of their hit movie, poor
Marvel has 2 work extra hard to maintain they own
creative integrity. How come FOX never really complained
about the WB having the 'Evolution' animated show?
Isn't there a LOT of similariaties there too? Oh yeah.
So, more than just perhaps, the whole legal broo ha
ha crap is just the big mega corp trying to take
everything they can with their leverage from the independant
creator. <br>la dee da da dee and a la dee da da
daaaaa<br>;-)<br><br>Let's rant on!!<br>peace,<br>-ty4000
Well my main reason for asking was while i've
never had interest in reading the Mutant X book(I got
burned out on Alternate reality x-men with the Age of
Apocolypse crap) but I did hear that the main character who
was Cyclops' bro Havok from the main x-books called
himself Adam-X so if that's the case and the main
character played by Shea is called Adam then is this Havok?
I really don't care if the comic and show correlate
or are different just thought it wierd that if it is
havok why not give him those powers and not just super
intelligence or something, sounds kinda like a Professor X
clone to me.<br><br>This rant brought to you

Source: Variety <br>Dateline: Thursday, September
6, 2001 <br><br>According to a recent report by
Variety, whilst 20th Century Fox has moved forward with a
motion to stop Tribune Entertainment from using the name
Mutant X on their upcoming syndicated TV series, the
company won't be bumping the title any time soon.
<br><br>Fox had put forth a motion that, during an appeal
over the studio's previously denied injunction,
Tribune Entertainment should remove the program's title.
The judges of the court denied Fox that request.
<br><br>Meanwhile, the court did grant Fox an expedited appeal that
requires both parties to file briefs later this month.
<br><br>Fox maintains that the coming Mutant X TV series
infringes upon and causes damage to their own X-Men film
franchise, which also includes television rights. Fox
previously was looking to see production halted on the
series and/or the title removed. Previously, a New York
District Court judge turned down the injunction to halt
production of the series. However, though they allowed
Tribune to proceed forward, the court also declared that
the Mutant X title did violate Fox's rights.
I wud think there wuz SOME kind of correlation
because isn't there a character or two in the show that
are in the comics? Like Shalamar like Silver Fox or
something? Not sure.<br>Interesting to essay!<br>Get your
homework a goin!!!!<br>peace,<br>-ty4000
Is it just me or is something odd here? Mutant X
has NOTHING to do with the X-men BUT there's been a
comicbook out already called Mutant X for what like 4 years
now? Maybe more? It has pretty much everything to do
with the x-men comic, and if there is a comic version
of this show coming out in Oct. then what about the
existing comic? To me it makes no sense since if Marvel
was making this show to be in NO relation with X-men
then why call it the same name as an existing comic?
Something sounds fishy to me and like I said why call it
Mutant X? besides it's convienient if not moronic...i'll
watch it though of course i'm simply saying it was in
poor judgement to call it such.

from Comics Continuum<br><br>Victoria Pratt, who
plays Shalimar Fox in the upcoming Mutant X television
series, told The Continuum that she does almost all of
her own stunts in the show - including a four-story
drop. <br><br>The stunt is shown in the previews of the
upcoming show, as Pratt gracefully lands on top of a car.
Not bad, considering she had never done anything like
that before Mutant X. <br><br>"It was a perfectly soft
landing," she said. "I trust our stunt people completely."
<br><br>As Shalimar Fox -- "I so scored with the name,"
Pratt said, laughing - Pratt's character is a feral,
the result of the only successful splicing of animal
DNA into a human. <br><br>"It's part fox and cat as
far as I can figure," Pratt said. "She's a sexy
little thing." <br><br>Shalimar is fun-loving but, when
angered, kicks into a feral mode and her eyes turn
catlike. She has other animal-like traits, including a
fear of fire. <br><br>In Mutant X, which will feature
lots of wire work and martial arts, Shalimar is the
primary fighting force on the team. One scene previewed
at the Canadian National Comic Book Expo last week
shows Shalimar - being pursued by two men - jumping
over a ledge inside a building. While the two men look
over the ledge for her, she leaps from around the
other side to attack them. <br><br>Pratt is still
recognized from a two-episode stint as Cyane, Queen of the
Amazons, three years ago on Xena: Warrior Princess. She
then starred as Sarge on Cleopatra 2525. <br><br>A
fitness expert who has written books on the subject,
Pratt said she bulked up for the role of Sarge, but
hasn't weight-trained in nine months to reshape her body
for leaner Shalimar. She continues to kick box and
does a sort of "yoga with a punch" as part of her
workouts. <br><br>"I love to work out," she said. "I don't
do it just for the show. I do it because it's part
of who I am. I wouldn't be happy without it."
<br><br>Pratt couldn't make the Mutant X panel in Toronto on
Saturday because of a previous commitment to a convention

told The Continuum. "Him and I are out on our own. We
don't really want to accept that we have these

we realize what a great place this is to be, to help
us with our abilities." <br><br>Smith's character is
a "telempath," who can transmit and receive
feelings telepathically and direct the behavior of others.
<br><br>"I get into people's heads," Smith said. "For
example, I've made people think they're being strangled by
a rope. So they temporarily think they're dying,
and then Shalimar will come in and kick their butt.
So I can make them think they can't breathe or that
they're falling. <br><br>"That's how we've been using it

Fox's Dark Angel, MTV's boy band parody 2Gether and
then in PAX TV's Christy: Choices of the Heart.

<br><br>Because her powers are mental, Smith hasn't done any wire
work like her cast mates, who have more of a stunt

<br><br>Emma doesn't wear a costume per se, but she does have

kick some butt, we'll wear these outfits," she said.
"Mine is sort of this really cool Emma Peel-y look.
It's all leather with this little belt and a collar.
It's really fun." <br><br>Smith said the outfit is
functional for physical exertion - except for one part.
<br><br>"Emma does an awful lot of running in the first three
or four episodes," she said. "And man, the heels! I
don't mean to pat my own back or anything, but at the
end of the day, I did pretty well." <br><br>Smith was
surprised at the immense reaction to Mutant X at last

FOX, TRIBUNE BOTH CLAIM VICTORY IN ROUND 1 OF
MUTANT X LEGAL BATTLE <br>By: Eric J. Moreels<br> Editor
<br>Source: Variety <br>Dateline: Friday, August 10, 2001
<br><br>Media firms Tribune Entertainment and 20th Century Fox
both claimed victory late Thursday evening in the
first round of their legal battle over the upcoming
syndicated TV series Mutant X. <br><br>According to a report
by Variety, New York District Court Judge Allen
Schwartz turned down an injunction filed by Fox to halt
production of Tribune's Mutant X series. At the same time,
he ruled that Tribune's use of the Mutant X title
violated Fox's rights - but stopped short of forcing
Tribune to change the series' name. <br><br>In April of
this year, Fox filed suit against Mutant X producers
Tribune, Marvel Enterprises, and Fireworks Entertainment,
arguing that the series violated Fox's X-Men rights,
which included last year's blockbuster movie, as well
as next year's sequel and subsequent television
development rights. The producers then countersued, arguing
that Mutant X was in no way related to X-Men.
<br><br>The court rejected Marvel's argument that television
series rights were not 'frozen' by the parties'
agreement. <br><br>Tribune Entertainment president-CEO Dick
Askin said that the U.S. District Court "overwhelmingly
ruled in our favor... (and dismissed) all of the
significant claims against Tribune. We have always believed
that there are no actionable similarities whatsoever
between Mutant X and the motion picture X-Men."
<br><br>The ruling will allow Tribune to launch Mutant X, as
planned, into syndication starting the week of October 1.
The first trailer for the series recently began
airing across the country, as well as online at the
series' official Web site MutantX.net. <br><br>Over at
Fox, the studio's VP of litigation, Ted Russell,
argued that Tribune had already altered the nature of
Mutant X following the company's complaint, and that the
court has also ordered further changes to the Mutant X
logo. He added that the court said that Fox had the
option of seeking a permanent injunction or monetary
damages if Tribune continues to use the show's title. In
the court's words, Fox "demonstrated a clear
likelihood of success for a claim of breach of contract
grounded in [the] use of the Mutant X name as the title of
the proposed series." <br><br>"If Tribune and Marvel
decide to use the title Mutant X, they do so at their
own peril," Russell said. Marvel Comics have a Mutant
X comic book tie-in to the television series in the
works. The first issue of the comic is set to debut on
October 10. <br><br>Last but by no means least, the court
has allowed Fox to proceed to a full trial. "Fox
looks forward to this opportunity to further vindicate
its rights," Russell said.

on thier site about it and i checked out

I remember reading that there were legal problems
a long long time ago, but I think they also

forward with the show, I think it will stay
afloat.<br>Well...IT BETTER!!!! ;-D<br>-ty4000

stop<br>the show due to possible comparisons to X-Men.<br>As
comic readers are aware; the comic was

Pratt has star power and will no doubt be more popular
than Jeri Ryan was with "Voyager".<br>Apparently the

from Comics Continuum site:<br><br>Tribune
Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has cleared the
weekly hour-long series Mutant X in 146 United States
markets, including 95 of the top 100 markets, representing
93 percent of the country. <br><br>Mutant X is
scheduled to begin in syndication the week of Oct. 1.
<br><br>Here's the official show description: <br><br>"Filled
with action, suspense and state-of-the-art visual
effects, Mutant X is set in contemporary America and opens
with the revelation that a covert branch of U.S.
intelligence has been secretly sponsoring a human genetics
program for years. The front for this operation is
Genomex, a biotech firm that serves as a cover for the
Genetic Security Agency. A few hundred men and women have
been the unwitting subjects of the program's
experiments and they are discovering that genetic mutation
has given them astonishing, and sometimes deadly,
powers. <br><br>"As the extraordinary abilities
genetically implanted in these Children of Genomex begin to
surface, they find themselves caught between two opposing
forces. On one side is Mutant X, a core group of powerful
mutants led by the brilliant and mysterious
multi-millionaire Adam (John Shea), who strive to help other new
mutants master their abilities and protect them from
those who would exploit or harm them. On the other is
the Genetic Security Agency, the secret intelligence
service under the command of Genomex security chief Mason
Eckhart (Tom McCamus, whose mandate is to keep the
existence of these anomalies and the research that produced
them hidden from the public. The GSA's mission is to
hunt down the new mutants and remove them from
society." <br><br>Shea's Adam is the strategist, tactician
and moral center of Mutant X and the only member of
the team who is not a new mutant. Formerly the chief
biogeneticist at Genomex, Adam was an unwitting participant in
its human genetics program who believed his research
was being applied to agricultural science studies and
only in the abstract, to the possibility of human
genetic enhancement. It was only when he confounded an
attempt at industrial espionage that he learned the dark
truths behind Genomex. Horrified by the knowledge of his
complicity, as innocent as it might have been, he rolled his
substantial fortune into a blind trust to finance the
mountain stronghold called Sanctuary - the headquarters of
Mutant X. Adam is a visionary genius, a supremely
charismatic and confident leader who has thoroughly prepared
himself physically, mentally and emotionally for the
arduous mission that lies ahead. <br><br>Also starring as
members of the Mutant X team are Victoria Pratt as
Shalimar Fox, a fiery and feral beauty with both human and
animal DNA, giving her the strength, speed and cunning
of the animal kingdom; Victor Webster as Brennan
Mulwray, a tough street-wise rebel with irresistible charm
whose body can generate enough electricity to power a
small city; Forbes March as Jesse Kilmartin, the cocky
and idealistic son of a corrupt multi-millionaire,
who can alter the density of his body at will to
become solid as a stone wall one minute, and able to
walk through a stone wall the next; and Lauren Lee
Smith as Emma deLauro, a beautiful and mischievous
