One thing I really like about Nick is that he mostly
doesn't do musical snobbery. I say "mostly" because he
does comment that "disco sucks" in the pilot episode.
But when Millie starts singing "Jesus is Just All
Right" at the keg party, he's the one who joins in.
When Mr. Rosso takes out his guitar and sings an Alice
Cooper song during a counseling session, most of the
other freaks come out rolling their eyes and talking
about how awful it was, but Nick is smiling and
talking about how great it was. Later on, he dances to
jazz with Lindsay's parents.
That's why I think it's believeable that he follows
his new girlfriend into disco in the final episode.
But more importantly, his openness about music is a
key part of why I find Nick such a likeable character,
even though he's a kind of goofy guy who smokes too
much pot and gets way too intense about his
relationships with girls.
I hope this post makes it. My last one seems to have
disappeared into electronic lala land.
