Kath & Kim and the FoxyMorons
Anyone who knows me will know that I am an absolute Kath & Kim obsessionist,
although
over the last year it has really slowed down. But over the course of this week,
I've fallen in
love with it again. So, why do I love Kath & Kim? First and foremost, because its
a local
comedy production with incredibly loveable characters. These people are very
easy to
relate to, and although its very cliched hearing it now, they are `real'.
But what I've really noticed by picking up the obsession again is that the show
is incredibly
well-written. The girls behind it -Jane Turner and Gina Riley - are amazingly
talented and
their ability to capture Australian pop culture and convey it so well is
unmatched.
Anyway, I could rabbit on about all that forever, but I won't. Because the show
is a
Melbourne production makes stepping into the world of Kath & Kim - ie: visiting
filming
locations etc - a reality and something that's incredibly drool-worthy to
someone like
myself. If you're a hardcore Nintendo fan, think of it as like walking into the
Mushroom
Kingdom.
Perhaps the tip of the ice berg of my love of this program was visiting Kath's
Townhouse
at Fountain Lakes in south-east Melbourne. Even better was visiting when the
cast and
crew were there filming series 3 in 2004. I was able to capture a glimpse of K&K
and meet
and greet Sharon and Bretty and get my boxset autographed by the entire main
cast. It's
probably my most prized possession and I wouldn't even trade it for a Wii! A
Current Affair
happened to be there that day, and luckily they didn't broadcast our
conversation in the
end…
Some people might be interested in my online presence before
Aussie-Nintendo.com. I
credit my skills and abilities to FoxyMorons.net - http://www.foxymorons.net.
This site
began its life as an MSN Group in 2001 called The Kath And Kim Domain, or TKAKD,
and
was the first website I had ever been involved in. I met the people behind it
online after
having first visited the K&K house and uncovered the fact that the ABC removed
the fence
when they weren't filming. For a K&K site, this was major news! Anyway, before I
knew it, I
was a staff member and assisted with content and then learnt Photoshop, and
began
producing wallpapers. I encourage any Kath & Kim fan to become involved with
FoxyMorons.net. Thanks to Ben and Tash for every opportunity. I'll pay you back
one day!
So, what does everyone else think of Kath & Kim?
