Glenn Robbins in training for Boytown

Comedian Glenn Robbins trained up to eight hours a day
for a month leading up to shooting his latest film,
Boytown.
The Australian comedy required some tight dance moves,
as Robbins played the lead singer in Boytown, the
greatest boy band of the 80s.
Now middle-aged, the band launch a comeback.
"This was heavily, heavily choreographed," said
Robbins in Sydney.
"It was important that you got the right moves at the
right time, otherwise it wasn't going to work."
The film also stars Mick Molloy, Bob Franklin, Wayne
Hope, Gary Eck, Lachy Hulme and Victoria Hill.
Robbins said the cast was trained by a professional
dancer, joking that they were given "dance class
detention" if they couldn't get a move right.
While not based on any particular boy band, Robbins
had someone in mind for his character, Benny G.
"As far as his look goes, I based it a bit on (Duran
Duran lead singer) Simon le Bon," he said.
"I let the wardrobe department take care of the rest."
Boytown is released nationally on October 19.
A soundtrack will be released and a video clip,
featuring the actors, has been given widespread
airplay.
Robbins is also hoping the film will be released
internationally.
"It is verging on a musical," said Robbins.
"It's more Full Monty than it's Spinal Tap."
Robbins, 48, has been a regular on Australian
television for many years, but in recent years,
probably, became best known for playing Kel Knight
on Kath and Kim.
