Terry,

Maybe you should post a big, bold message like this one every day on
this old board... that way there'd be a new board reference no matter
how many posts were here.

And if it contained a link to the new board registration thing, then
maybe there'd be less traffic on this old forum and you wouldn't have
to monitor it so much.

Just trying to help :~)

Thanks Tom your suggestion is very well taken. Because I am in trial, I can not
devote the kind of time that I would like. Actually what you suggested is part
of a plan that I had intended to begin once I return. Keep in mind that you too
can post the kind of message that you suggest. Remember this is not Terry's
board, but the board of the members.

I don't think the old board will completely desolve, as some may feel it
beneficial to has access to the members of board both boards.

Thanks for your suggestion. Just for par, here is the link.

With minidv or digital 8 it seems 90 minutes is the maximum
taping time...and that is not a real problem.  when i went from
the 455 to minidv i was concerned about that but it is nothing
to worry about.   as for digital cameras there are many on
the market.  beware of sony digital 8, most of their models
have loading from the bottom, which is totally impractical.
panasonic makes a 3ccd minidv top load for about 1000 dollars.

The Canon GL-2: best optics, appropriate features for
legal video (i.e. no overkill on bels and whistles).
Get that camera - that's it. Case closed.

PV-GS70...I bought mine at Circuit City.  It has Ext Mic input,
it is toploading, has DV out, headphone input, color flip out
monitor and color evf, softskin feature, takes a memory card,
has a flash for stills, comes with a 2.5 hour battery for remote
taping, has a remote, shows time and date on monitor, and nice
quick rewind.
I paid 999.95 or something like that at Circuit City...did not buy
the extended warranty.  I have used this now for several months
and it works quite well...besides being rather small.

Hey Nolan:
David here! Are those DV-cam tapes the large size or the same size as the mini-dv?  If they are the small size dv-cam tapes I can handle them right away but if they are the large size I can get a machine but it may be a few days depending on how many you have. Also, what do you mean by convert? I can dub to any format you want but if you want them converted to M-peg or something like that than we should talk.

As an attorney, I find depo video synchronization very useful at
trial, either if I want to present a number of deposition excerpts,
of if I want to impeach a witness. Impeachment, in particular, is an
excellent application for synced video. Juries like television (I
learned that a long time ago), and there's nothing like _showing_ a
jury what a witness said at a deposition, instead of simply reading
from the depo transcript. Since impeachment depends on ready access
to the depo material "on the fly," the only practical way to present
impeachment video is if it has been synced to the transcript.

Hi there--

I just attended the NCRA conference and found it quite
informative and helpful. However, there was some hesitance to
talk about rates charged, as folks came from all over the country,
but this seemed to be a general hesitance. but from a newcomer
perspective, figures would have been very helpful.

So my first question is: if i want to ask a videographer to work for
me (or with me) who has really only a camera and a mic, and will
be using equipment i provide, can anyone give at least a
percentage of what they pay a person per job? i have no idea,
although i do have an idea of what i think is fair.

Second question pertains to using DVD recorders, on which a
great presentation was given. The issue arose of the fact that
DVD recorders do not have timecode in them (being MPEG-2s
and all). But i can't remember if there was any resolution as to
how this was resolved, or if just having timecode on the VHS
was good enough. In the case that an atty is just given a DVD,
then what have people done in terms of these timecode issues
on the DVD? I don't remember the answer to this as i imagine i
was starting to get tired at this point in the conference.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

My hourly is 85, minimum three, prorated thereafter.
Includes a set of tapes OR dvds.....mileage in town, tape, parking are included
Associates get 70 percent if they have their own gear...60 if they use mine.

The hesitancy to suggest rates is understandable for another important
reason; it could be construed as "price fixing" which is a risky rope to
walk if you're providing professional seminars. The safe way to learn your
local competitive pricing range is to ask law firms what they've been
paying for specific services. It's always ok to ask the customers rather
than your competitors.

Regarding a time/date stamp on DVDs: A dvd recorder can be used just like
another video deck; if the signal it receives has a time & date burned into
the image it will be there on the dvd. It depends on what other equipment
you're using.

If you have a digital camera that doesn't provide time/date information IN
the image WHILE it's being recorded (which is often the case if the camera
is designed to provide that only when playing back the already recorded
tape from the camera or a digital deck) you can run the signal out from the
camera through a time and date generator (separate box with cable in &
cable out). The nearly impossible trick with that is to get the time to
match the camera's right to the second! It's simpler if your camera
includes time & date in the image signal without additional gadgets.
Alternately, you can provide dvds later by re-recording from the camera
playing back the tape, using composite or S-Video cables.

I think most FireWire transmissions will exclude that time/date data --
this is one of the trickier aspects to learn when talking to salesmen who
really haven't any information. Usually nobody has asked them about it
before and it's not well described in manuals I've looked at.

Which cameras can do what? This is a subject that keeps coming back. It
never seems to be completely answered because there are so many models and
modes within models of camcorders. We need a database with instructions for
every camera!

You're welcome Annie. I just noticed that you used the old "Legalvideo"
Yahoo group; do you know there's a new & improved group with more
contributors? It's here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LegalVideoForum/

-- the reason for the new group was a desire to have more features and
control over it. The "Legalvideo" group was started by someone who seems to
have melted away and nobody could make changes through Yahoo's system.
There's also a trial technology group. I forget the address, but anybody
can ask!
Best,

Hello everyone!

My name is Diane and I have a complete brand new rig for sale. I was
in the process of obtaining my CLVS and begining to work as a legal
videographer when due to circumstances beyond my control I had to
quit. My equipment is less than six months old and has never been
used. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I am desparate to
sell this equipment, so you will receive a great price!

My equipment includes: Panasonic AG-DVC7 3-chip camera w/hard case,
5"lcd color monitor, Bogen fluid head tripod w/ soft case, Denny
twist flex, 5 Shure laveliere mics with cases, a Nady condenser
tabletop mic, a Shure handheld mic with case, a Marantz PMD201

Sorry, but the AG-DVC7 is a single chip not a 3 chip.  Just thought you would like to know.

Diane,

How much for the whole rig in one lot? And where in the country are you
located? I'm one to jump at the chance for a roadtrip, so shipping might
not be a problem.

Feel free to email me off the group if you want to avoid an auction. No,
wait - that sounds like FUN!

Listmates,

I have two (2) Optibase Moviemaker 200S XPress-C video compression cards, one of
which has never been used, and the other has less than 5 hours of encoding time.
These are high-end cards which can capture to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. If you are
looking to encode video inhouse for Sanction, Trial Director or other trial
presentation applications, these are great cards.

Please email me off-list if you have any interest in one or both of these cards.

A couple questions: Will it work well with xp pc with 1 gig cpu?
Does editing software come with those cards? Is it hard to learn? I
currently use Final Cut. How much?
Thanks
