Interesting. I like the way every now and then you get a hint of
other stories like DW meeting Queen Elizabeth and wondering in which
incarnation it was. Interesting that there seems to be more comedy
creeping in whereas the comedian played it straight.
Have there been any alien visitors stories where they don't want to
colonise Earth? Duh last weeks but half of the aliens did
Slightly OT has the actor who played Shakespeare been in anything
else? My recption was too fuzzy to see his name properly. I did
think Ewan MacGregor would have fitted the part but he might be too
famous now although he was in Emma

Well, what do you think?
I watched until the Empress? arrived and because of my irrational
phobia regarding spiders on screen hastily changed channels and
watched during ad breaks being the couch lol.
There really is a torchwood conspiracy isn't there. They have turned
from something ok to something corrupt.
The end was different. I like the way the TARDIS took off like a sky
rocket instead of just dematerialising. And bouncing off the motorway
like that, that was cool and there were shades of previous doctors -
second I think - in the way DW tried to repair the console with a
hammer.
Catherine was better than some of her characters in her show and that
was not how I expected to see Sarah Parish or so soon. Unfortunately
the interview wasn't dated and I thought either later this series or
next for a guest appearance.
I think I need to watch it again

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the lack of news but I've been busy/slack, though I have
been removing spammers whenever they join.

Anyway, the new series starts this Sunday in NZ; normally I would
update the Group Photo on Friday, but so that the Group can "promote"
each new episode for at least a week, the photos will be changed on
Monday. Each photo will be a still or promotional shot to coincide
with each new episode.

I was wondering if other members of the group like Paul had noticed
that there are numbers missing in their daily digests on other groups
since the middle of March or don't they worry? I thought it might be
because the moderators had deleted spam but the one I looked in was
full of spam which shows that other groups are being hit with the same
spam. I just wish it would go back to uni degrees or home loans

I'm asking this again because we seem to have a new member but it is
propbably only the spammer and it might jog a lurker's memory.
I am looking for a copy of "The Day of the Daleks" which starred Jon
Pertwee as I was dubbing my copy onto another tape and I had an
accident with my master wiping out at least the first episode and
maybe the second. Does anyone out there have a copy of the story on
tape that they could either lend me or dub off a copy for me. I have
a big stack of tapes with episodes of Tom Baker's stories intermingled
with Joe 90 episodes that I would like to move but can't until I
do "The Day of the Daleks".
Would greatly appreicate any help the group can give

I've popped in here for the first time in ages and read this
discussion with interest.

I belong to a number of moderated Yahoo Groups and I think having open
membership without moderation is a really bad idea. It's essential to
keep the spammers at bay otherwise you'll rapidly drive away your
existing 'legitimate' membership, which seems to have happened here. I
can recall a time some years ago when many of the 'movers & shakers'
in NZ Doctor Who fandom would frequent this site - and particularly
the Friday night chat rooms - but judging by the recent posts here
that no longer appears to be the case.

I also think that this group has suffered because NZ Doctor Who fans
are already very well served by the often lively discussion forums
available online at the NZ Doctor Who Fan Club website
(www.doctorwho.org.nz). While there's no rivalry or competiveness and
absolutely no reason why the NZDWFC and this group can't both enjoy
good patronage, my perception is that NZ DW fandom perhaps isn't large
or diverse enough to sustain multiple fan sites. Even the majority of
TSV's readership is now based overseas.

Nevertheless David's perserverence with keeping this group going as
long as he has in the face of low attendance and unmoderated spam
problems is commendable!

best wishes
Paul

I don't think it was only the spam that killed this group. Until
they came along there seemed to be very little contributions to this
group and I know I am guilty pf that. I never thought to add my
thoughts of the reruns of "The first series".when they played
recently. Sometimes it seemed David and I were having a private
convestation in public via the group instead of via email.
I'm one of those silly broke people who prefers watching her tv
recorded episodes of DW mainly because I can't afford to buy videos

a video copy of a story but no-one in the group other than me seems

Being low volume is not a problem. Lots of group are low volume.
Having spammers able to post is the problem.
That is what killed this group. It was spammed to death.
The only way to stop this is to moderate.
If you are no longer able to moderate all new members. Then the group
will die. Sad but true.

I'm uncertain as to what you expect me to do, Stan.

I've asked for people to contribute to this place (reviews of DVDs, new
episodes, CDs, books etc) but no one has done anything like that at
all. With no new or old episodes on in New Zealand at the moment,
there is not a lot for us to talk about.

It should not be just up to me to get the ball rolling. It was when I
first started this place back in 2000, but not anymore.

As for the spammers, I don't know what you expect me to do about them
either. Unlike seven years ago I can't moderate this place all
day/every day. Back then I was a University student and used the
Internet regularly; today I have a full time job and can only really
check this place from time to time. It doesn't help that no one
bothers to email me and point out that the board is being spammed.

This place is "dead" only because of lack of contributions from other
members. I can't force people to contribute, they have to want to
themselves.

As this group is now overrun by spammers, and as good as dead.
I have started anew yahoo group.
DrWhoNZ
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/DrWhoNZ/
This new group will have new members moderated.

If you want to discuss Dr Who, then you are welcome to cross over.
Everone else can stay here, and spam each other.

Stan.

Mick has now revoked his membership, which in my mind is rather silly,
but in answer to his query...

I could set this place up so that I could pick and choose people, but
I've always found that be rather tiresome at times. You have to try
and second-guess whether a person really wants to be a member or not,
and how do you do that?

I could try and cross-reference them with the list of members of the
NZDWFC, but then not all Kiwi fans are members of the NZDWFC. It's
only recently that I've started to experience problems with spammers,
and it's not as if they're causing that much havoc.

In any event, I have this place set up to automatically send me an
email once a new member joins up anyway so if I do think they could be
a spammer I'm alerted to their presence.

Hi David
I noticed with another group that instead of the subject line being
something like "My rate was decreased" they are now using things like
John as here or Joseph or other names which seems legit. I was
pointing them out to my mother and only really picked it up as I had
deleted a message, from an address, that was spam that showed up later
with names in the subject line.
Hope the dalek bouncer starts working soon lol

Just a word to point out that the spammer has been removed and their
messages have been deleted.

In answer to the earlier query regarding membership - people who join
are automatically verified; it's been like that from the start. I
could change it, but I prefer it the way it is at the moment as it
would take a while before I could verify them and the waiting period
can be a bit frustrating at times.
