how i can find it.
(I know I'm late with this, but I'm sure you all heard by now)
OCALA, FL (AP) -- Judge Joe Brown usually doesn't take a lot of guff
from people in his make-believe court. But at yesterday's sentencing
hearing for Wesley Snipes he caused the kind of outburst judges often
warn spectators against.
Brown was one of the character witnesses for Snipes. Speaking before
the actor's sentencing, Brown suggested Snipes is no different from
the "mega-corporate entities" that legally avoid paying taxes. That
triggered a burst of applause from the gallery in the Ocala
courtroom.
The judge had to halt the proceedings and threatened to clear the
courtroom if there was another outburst.

Judge Joe Brown takes the stand on behalf of Snipes
OCALA - TV Judge Joe Brown took the witness stand in a real-life
courtroom drama in Ocala Thursday afternoon, testifying as a
character witness on behalf of actor Wesley Snipes.
He was one of four character witnesses for the action star. Later in
the hearing, Snipes was sentenced to three years in federal prison
and one year of supervised release on three convictions for failure
to file his taxes.
"I've been something of a mentor of to the young man," Brown
testified.
He said Snipes himself is a strong role model for young men in a
troubled society that "makes being a man a joke these days."
Snipes, he said, represents a positive view of manliness, "that
position in society where he represents what John Wayne used to mean
to this country or Sidney Poitier."
U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill asked Brown if the conviction would
affect Snipes' image as a role model.
"I don't think so," the TV judge responded. "It's a misdemeanor." The
public will look at it as just "something people get into."
Celebrities like Snipes can be sophisticated and intelligent in one
area and very naive in another, Brown said.
O'Neill asked about the public institutions - including an arts high
school and state college - that helped Snipes to his success. Weren't
those funded with taxes, he asked.
Some large corporations have avoided paying taxes, Brown said in
response. "Those corporations certainly are the beneficiaries of this
country."
Many in the courtroom audience burst into applause.
That drew a stern reprimand from U.S. District Judge William Terrell
Hodges, who threatened to throw everyone out.
"This is a very somber and serious proceeding that affects a man's
liberty," Hodges said.
In an interview earlier in the day, Brown described Snipes as "nice
kid." He has known him for about eight years but met his mother at a
charity event in 1993.
Brown - a star of daytime TV whose reality show has run for 11 years -
is based in California but made the trip to Ocala to be with Snipes.
"I was asked to come," Brown said.
He had already written a character reference letter. Snipes had also
presented the federal judge with letters of support from actors
Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson, among others.

This year, NBA legend, Earvin "Magic" Johnson was the recipient of the
Hollywood Hero Award presented by USA Today. If you know anything about
Magic and Judge Joe, you'd know that they are really good friends and
our favorite jurist was on hand for the festivities with his very VERY
beautiful wife, Deborah--who wore a BAD shimmery gold, low cut Herve
Leger bandage dress. If you're ever lucky enough to meet the judge or
see him on the street, you'd instantly high five him or throw out
a 'Good Job!' for landing that woman.
Feel free to Google the event. All the picture sites have up images
from last night's events. There are two of Judge Joe and Deb at Getty
Images. I don't have them saved to my comp, but I'll figure out a way
to get them up.
HOPEFULLY, someone else will contribute and help me out with that.
There's also an interview with him and William Pepper, one of the
defense lawyers from the JER case, on NPR. You can find it on YouTube
as well.

Apparently Judge Joe was a guest on Tyra Banks' talk show this past
Tuesday. I haven't seen it, I don't know when it'll be rerun, but I'll
try and catch it then. Nothing on YouTube yet, if anyone's seen it,
please post something.
Our favorite jurist was on hand for the festivities earlier this month
in Memphis for the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. He spoke at The Coalition On Political Assassinations
about his findings in retrying the James Earl Ray case.
I'm sure some of you saw him on the CNN special that delved into the
conspiracy behind the death of Dr. King.
I added pictures from the march to the Lorraine Motel that he
apparently participated in.
CONTRIBUTE, PEOPLE! I CANNOT DO IT ALONE!
ok, haven't found the pictures that I was looking for, but I found
some things. I think Judge Joe's team has come in second place every
year that they've done this and this year was no exception. I think
their time was 17 minutes and some odd seconds. It seems like a really
good organization to be a part of.
Hope you all checked out the link I provided. Also, here's a link to a
video where Judge Joe was interviewed about the program. He's
hilarious--especially when he's talking about his wife.

I've got some pictures that I'm going to add. Hope you guys are still
keeping up with this group. Feel free to contribute. Kinda sucks to be
all alone.

'Courtside' with Judge Joe Brown
Issue date: 1/23/08 Section: News
Senior Reporter David Veselenak sits down with Martin Luther King Jr.
keynote speaker Judge Joe Brown to get his take on King, James Earl
Ray and the nooses found at CMU.
David Veselenak: You were the first black prosecutor in Memphis, Tenn.
What was going through your mind, given the time period?
Judge Joe Brown: It didn't bother me much at that point, because I had
been doing a lot of defense work. I was with legal services, where I
dealt with poverty law, and then I was with Equal Employees
Opportunity Commission.
I got this prosecutor position because I went in and defended somebody
in front of a judge that I subsequently developed an animosity for and
vice versa. I did so well that he recommended me for the position.
DV: You were assigned to the James Earl Ray case in the 1990s. What
were your initial thoughts when you were assigned that case?
JB: I actually didn't know until I walked into the courtroom and they
called it on the docket. Everyone looks over like 'What? Can that be?'
You train yourself to keep an open mind and not to formulate any
opinions up front... I was surprised at what came out of it. I had
discovered that he had never confessed to killing King. That was the
first thing I had learned. The next thing, I was surprised at what
came out of it. I was surprised by the total picture of the deception
of the case to the American public about what happened. It was
probably a minor level conspiracy, but he looked like a long-termed
scapegoat. There were probably four or five other people that were
involved.
DV: On MLK Day, do you find any special connection since you did
preside over the Ray trial?
JB: The MLK Day had been going on for quite some time before I got
(the Ray case), 28 years after the fact.
DV: What are your thoughts on the recent hangings of the nooses
discovered at CMU in November?
JB: At this point in time, I think that such incidents should be taken
for what they are. People should understand that the First Amendment
has its ups and downs, even if it's uncomfortable and even when it's
difficult. Get over the bad things. We do have "Mind of Mencia,"
that's on Comedy Central. He's quite funny talking about everybody.
Even when somebody does something like that, they feel scared - they
feel uneasy. Don't be so offended by it. It inspires us to reach out a
little more.

Judge Joe and his wife Deborah maintain a residence in Aspen and as
far as I know, that's where they spend their winters/holidays. In
Aspen, there's an organization that works with inner city children
from around the country. The kids are brought to Aspen and taught life
lessons and skiing and other things. Deborah's on the Board of
Directors and Judge Joe is on the Honorary Board.
The big events are always held mid to late February--parties, silent
auctions, and the Aspen Downhill Ski Race that they also participate
in. When it all goes down and I find pictures, I'll try and post them.
In the mean time, here is the website if you want to learn more about
the organization and possibly donate. It's a completely new site, so I
don't think it's finalized yet. A lot of things are missing.

I believe I remember reading somewhere that he said he'd want to be
mayor of Memphis, but he quickly shot that down saying the he was a
big supporter of the current mayor. I think, that with all the things
he does in his free time, that he's just having too much fun with his
show and his speaking engagements and personal organizations to commit
to politics.

Judge Joe spoke on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at
Central Michigan University on the 21st of this month. I haven't found
any pictures, but there's a quick video from the local news station.

I'm not sure exactly when it was on, but Judge Joe was a panelist on
Larry King Live where they discussed the Baby Grace case, the Stacy
Peterson case, and the updates on the Natalee Holloway case. Along
with the judge were the Mark Geragos, Robin Sax from the DA's office
of LA county, Judge Hatchett, and Judge Alex Ferrer.

There's a lot of stuff that I would like to contribute and I'm sure a
lot of other members would love to contribute, but with all the spam,
it makes it hard to want to do that. Every chance I get to check out
the group, it's cluttered with spam. Can you add some moderators to
deal with that or something? This is getting ridiculous and it's
really making me not want to be a member of this group any more.

I have allways thought Judge Joe Brown was and is "HOT" I have a
great deal of respect for him, his wisdom and believe he is what a real
man should be and an excellent role model for our young black boys and
some of the so call Black older men.
I havent heard that, I always notice the name at the end of the
credits and I assumed that it was the judge himself. It's like
Executive Consulting Producer or something of that sort. I just
assumed it was him and never thought of his son. Wow, that's a new
thought about the whole thing.
