OS: What I'm about to say here might be viewed with more than a
little irony coming from one of us.
sadmad: What's that?
OS: Well, since you brought up the various things Karolina said in
her post-show internet incarnations, I'll point out something else
she said, albeit with a certain wariness to be sure.
sadmad: Why?
OS: In order to be fair.
sadmad: Since when are you two guys suddenly so interested in being
fair? Oh, never mind. Go ahead.
OS: When Karolina discussed Linda's feelings about David and her
relationship with him, she said that since David was 'the guy', the
person at the center, if you will, of the whole show, Linda was
flattered by the attention he paid to her among all the other girls
there, as well as by the affection he showed to her, and she
responded to him because of that. But when everything was all done
with, and the show was over, Linda was left to recognize that they
were from two different worlds - with nothing really in common. And
that once the rosy afterglow of the limited time they spent together
on the show was over, what were they left with?
sadmad: Well?
MM: That does sound believable. Kind of. Doesn't it?
OS: What she's saying is that within the intense, cloistered,
fishbowl enviornment of what went on during the making of the show,
relationships can be forged that will dissiptate when that
enviornment and those factors no longer exist.
MM: Which is a phenomenon, by the way, that's endemic to a lot of
reality television shows. As well as on motion picture sets, I may
add.
sadmad: Look guys, believe me, I'm as romantic and sentimental, at
heart, as anyone you can find. How do you think I glombed onto this
show in the first place? I would love to ascribe that version of
events as an explanation, in the wake of what happened between the
two of them.
MM: So?
sadmad: Hmmm. I think I understand. You guys are still not convinced,
with regard to this whole assault on Karolina, that it isn't just a
case of my shooting the messenger, aren't you?
OS: Well?
sadmad: Unfortunately, I'd still say there's too much contrary
evidence to change my feelings about Karolina and the things she said.
