I agree, Cavalrysword. The usual way of doing sequels,
unfortunately, is to try and sever ties with any previous movie to
avoid confusing viewers. So some have said that HH3 won't mention
Archie because he isn't in the new films; some have also said that
since Horatio is a solitary boy anyway, he would bury his grief and
move on.
Me, I'm a sentimental sort, and if the movies follow the timeline it
will begin a scant week or two after the end of Mutiny. Good
heavens, I hope Horatio isn't so callous as to forget his best friend
in a week!! Burying his grief that deep is unhealthy. :-)
I'm hoping for at least one "Horatio coping" scene, and would like to
see Horatio's recovery be woven into the story - subtly, but there.
Horatio feels guilty for things he can't control, so I don't see any
reason why he wouldn't feel guilty over this! I guess we'll just
have to wait and see.
To answer your second question, the new movies are coming out in
April of next year, and there will be two two-hour flicks, based on
"Hornblower and the Hotspur". In addition to Ioan, Robert Lindsay is
returning as Pellew, Paul McGann is back as Bush, and Paul Copley and
Sean Gilder are back as Matthews and Styles. Some 'on the set'
pictures have been published (see A&E board for details) and everyone
looks happy and relaxed, so I'm looking forward to a great time!
