It's not that the show is "politically correct", it's just being
realistic. In the USA, terms such as "white boy" or making fun of
hicks are generally accepted. But if you dare say any derogatory terms
regarding Blacks or any other minorities, you will be look at as an
asshole. That's the way the world works today, and it's not that the
SHOW was being politically correct, but it was displaying that
political correctness accurately.
The show is one of the best regarding race, in my opinion. It does not
shy away from it, and it does not display it in an unrealistic view,
in my opinion anyway. A lot of the drug dealers are shown to be black,
which was true in Baltimore during that time (and probably still is),
and there was a mix of races in murderers and victims.
